5 comments about Philips 32PFL5332D/37 32-inch 720p LCD HDTV.
- I have owned the TV now for a total of 5 months, unfortunately, the last three months the TV has been in repair (which is covered by the warranty). The customer service is poor, which makes the problem only worse. My TV was working fine, until one day, the screen went blank. Once this happened, a series of backordered parts for repair, incompetency, etc. prevailed, and I still do not have a functioning TV. Perhaps, the most frustrating aspect of this entire ordeal is that I bought a Phillips TV b/c I was under the impression it was better quality and thus reliable. I was mistaken. Please know that I am writing this review while I am on hold with customer service, now for the 13th week. Avoid this product at all costs! If you don't believe me, just look up this TV and model series in google, and see all of the frustration forums.
- Philips produce line seem's to be a great one. TV working fine ...... Comcast, on the other hand .........
- This TV was good for the price until it started having major problems seven weeks after I purchased it. The picture started jumping up and down on the screen, blinking as it did this. Then, after several minutes of flashing, the screen would go blank. The customer service experience has been TERRIBLE, which is why I took the time to write this review--to warn people before they buy this TV. The person who was supposed to fix this TV under full warranty tried to charge me for labor, which was supposed to be covered. After that happened, Phillips claimed there was no one else in my area who could fix the TV. So, when the TV wasn't repaired correctly the first time, I had to take it back to the same person who tried to steal money from me. Do not buy this TV! Of the few reviews I read, another person had almost the exact same problem with their TV. The broken television combined with a poor customer service experience is why I have rated this TV one star.
- I researched this tv for my wife and ordered it for her. She is very pleased with it. I installed it and after following prompts on the screen, it said it had found 11 digital channels and 12 analog channels. It gets channels we didn't know existed, using the antenna. I had never heard of decimal channels, like 9.4, Create. Now, after hooking up to directv, without subscribing to HD, the reception is exceptional, without the HD, and when we want to get the HD local channels, she switches over to the antenna. Satelite doesn't bring in any of the decimal channels.
Now, I would like to buy a 26" Phillips LCD HDTV for my den. Whew I ordered tv they were not available.
- I looked at ALL the brands at all the local electronic stores and took alot of time before deciding on this one. I honestly believe that it is equal to or better than all the more expensive brands out there. As a matter of fact, my brother-in-law bought my mother-in-law, who lives next door, a new Sony 32" LCD shortly after we got our Philips, and the Philips definitely outperforms the Sony in picture quality, and I might add that I'm a fan of Sony products. I'd say it is on par with the much more expensive Samsung. This one is for our bedroom, our next LCD TV will be for the living room and WILL be a larger Philips.
What I like: two HDMI inputs, a USB input for updating software AND observing your favorite pics, a light, easy to use remote, nice style, great sound, and of course, fantastic HD picture.
Dislikes: I could only afford to buy one of these at a time.

5 comments about Sony Bravia S-Series KDL-46S3000 46-Inch 720p LCD HDTV.
- Excellent TV, bright/vivid colors, no viewing angle problems. I bought this TV through Amazon after much research. The whole experience was flawless.
- I am NOT a tech person, just average with TV's & PC's. The Sony Bravia was a snap to hook up, I used one HDMI cable from the cable box, and the other HDMI cable from the DVD into the back of the Sony Bravia, and I was all done! Simple. The set looks outstanding, and comes with a clear manual of instructions. It will do a lot more than I need (i.e. PIP) and yet it is simple to operate. An excellent buy for the money, and a Consumer Reports "Best Buy" in their recent magazine (according to my brother who noticed it). I highly recommend this set since 720p is what the stations will be broadcasting in and the picture is fabulous.
- Sony just makes great products. This year's NFL games in HD were even more spectacular on this unit. Sound quality is more than adequate. Black unpolished frame surround makes this blend well in our bedroom. My next TV will again be a Sony.
- We purchased this TV last fall from Amazon. Even though it's "only" 720p, the picture quality when watching HD channels and DVD's is excellent. The quality of regular TV channels is decent and watchable. We also use it to watch Netflix streaming movies through our computer and the experience is surprisingly good.
If you buy from Amazon, don't forget to watch the prices for 30 days after the purchase. If the price is reduced, Amazon will refund you the difference. We got almost $100 back this way, but they will not do it automatically. You need to send them an email and ask for it.
- Beautiful color...beautiful resolution, beautiful sound. We have not found any negatives to this TV.

5 comments about Samsung LNS4041D 40-Inch LCD HDTV.
- While deployed, there would sometimes be six or seven of us huddled around an iPod trying to share a movie. Perhaps two dozen or so could watch one play on a laptop. You can only take so much of that! I knew a large LCD would be my first post-deployment purchase and it was.
Samsung makes great LCD's. My Dell Inspiron 9300 has a Samsung beauty and I've another on my desktop as well.
If this large LCD doesn't live up to its peers in my house it's on the darks. Colors are rich and vibrant but if a scene is shot with low light or contains a lot of shadows, it's inky black on this screen.
- I have had this TV for a little over a year and this is, by far, the best television I have ever owned. The picture is amazing, the sound is great (built-in HDTV Tuner)and the price was steal! I hooked up My Samsung BDP-1400 Blu Ray player to it, and I feel like I am there. I would definately recommend this televsion to anyone who is looking for one.
- Great Picture Qualty,I love this t.v. it look's great mounted on the wall, hook up's are easy especially with HDMI cables.
- I bought this TV in 12/06. At that time it was advertised as 1080i resolution and 15,000/1 dynamic contrast. This is what I got.
However, I now read where the item is listed as 768 resolution and 3000/1 contrast.
Something tells me samsung reserves the right to alter specs on an item after it is released.
Needless to say, the TV I received is magnificant regarding video (5-star). The audio would be rated 4-star as I get a vibration if I turn it louder than 1/2 way up. I don't care because I have a 5.1 surround sound system hooked up to it.
I hope everyone got the same spec tv I got (1080i-15000/1) but I'm afraid they didn't.
If I rated MY tv anything lower than 5-star, I'd be lying. It's a great tv. (LNS4041D)
- It is perfect to have in your living room. The ultimate picture and Sound quality!

5 comments about Toshiba REGZA 47HL167 47-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV.
- The first one I ordered had an issue right out of the box where the entire right half of the screen was very, very dark as opposed to the left side. I tried hooking up different sources and they all had the same problem. Toshiba claimed never to have heard of the problem and suggested that maybe the shipper dropped it on it's side.
So I took it back and ordered another, and lucky me, I got another one with the EXACT SAME ISSUE. Same advice from Toshiba when I called -- and they couldn't even find my original problem listed anywhere as the person I spoke to called this "the only time he'd ever heard it happening". Nice to know they are hiding some problems from consumers.
Taking it back now and will not reorder.
- I've just got this set, and enjoyed it for 3 days, when suddenly right half of the screen went dark. I was using HDMI input when this problem arose, then I tried several different input, without making any difference. I saw another review that has exact same problem I experienced. Plan to return this set to get a refund, and buy a different brand. All and all it makes a good excuse to return this item since I've just discovered that it doesn't support wide screen resolution for PC input. Only support 640x480, 800x600, and 1024x768.. very dissapointing. Wasted my time and effort to mount this set on the wall.
- I purchased this after my 42" Plasma broke. I decided to get an LCD as I live at an altitude of 6200 ft and have been told that Plasmas are not recommended for such high altitudes.
After having a Plasma, the image quality of this LCD comes nowhere close to as being as good. The colors appear more muted. Also, as others here have commented, the colors are further faded as you move anywhere greater than 30 degrees from center. It is a significant fade, not something to discount in your purchasing decision.
As I bought this from Costco, I'm returning under their return policy.
- I bought 47HL167 for a month. I just found a red line on the right side of the screen this morning. No matter what chennal or input I tried, the line had always been there. One hour ago, the line is gone. What should I do with the TV? Will the line came back?
- I bought a Toshiba REGZA 47HL167 in April of 2008 (4 months ago) [...]. I waited a while before writing my review because I wanted to make sure the TV didn't die on me after a month of use. So far, I am pretty satisfied with the purchase. As some other reviews have stated, there is a slight color shift problem, however, it does not really bother me. I played with the color settings, and have found settings that satisfy me. However, I notice that some channels are more problematic than others (HGTV is way too red!).
When I first received the TV there was a huge black shadow on the right side of the screen, but I sent it back and have not had the same problem with the replacement. I later discovered that the shadow was due to improper storage of the television whilst in warehouse.
Picture Clarity:
True, the Samsung does have a clearer picture (the whites are more vibrant), however, at the time of purchase, the Samsung was $900 more than the Toshiba. If you can get the Samsung LNT4665F for a cheaper price, than I would go with the Samsung. That being said, I think the picture quality of the Toshiba is wonderful for the price. I have a Sony PS3/blu-ray, and by connecting it with a cheap HDMI cable purchased from Amazon, the picture clarity is amazing! As mentioned in other reviews, the 1080p converts to 1080i in some instances, but I'm willing to compromise for the price.
Matte Finish Screen:
I am extremely happy with the matte finish screen, because when viewing television during the day there is absolutely NO glare! (Perfect for weekend afternoon sports!) Because of the way my living room is positioned, the windows have to be directly opposite of the television, causing a very bad glare on most TVs. However, with the matte finish, that problem has been solved! Wonderful!
Remote control problems:
The remote control is too big! However, I solved this problem by programming the TV into my satellite remote, so I use the Toshiba remote very rarely now. Unfortunately, I still have to use the Toshiba remote to switch in between inputs, and I've noticed that sometimes the arrow buttons don't work - very annoying! However, I think I may have gotten a defective remote, because I haven't seen any other reviews that complain about this problem.
OVERALL:
Overall, I am very happy with this television. It was a big purchase for me, and I'm glad I made the right choice!

- THis TV is really really nice, the picture is great and the quality is excellent, there are many features on it and they all work so well. the picture, is great, I can't get over the quality (as it should be) the 780psi? whatever the resolution should be -- the 780 is up there and it really is a great picture. I love the fact that you can input so many devices on it, there is about 25 holes for many differenct devices to plug into tv.
AS you can see I am NOT A TECHie hahaha, but I do know a great picture when i See it. w
I plugged it in and it was all set. and i did a auto installation and it works great!! I did absolutley nothing to get it going the tv did all the work.
This is a good deal!!!
- I bought this TV to demonstrate Karaokes that I have from the Philippines. I did not intend to use it for watching TV alone. But when I first turned it on, setup was automatic, and the quality of the picture was beyond reproach. Now I use it exclusively for watching TV over a much larger TV in an air-conditioned room. That is how truly good this TV is. At one time, I thought Magnavox TVs were of poor quality, but so far this TV is just as good as a Panasonic or Sony.
The quality of the sound could be improved, but I am running the sound through wireless earphones and/or a stereo shelf system which I also bought from Amazon.com. I will review the shelf system and wireless earphones in another post.
Overall, I could not be more happy with this TV or with Amazon on this particular purchase.

- We purchased eight of these for our company to use as large informational displays. They seem to work alright, and have all the inputs that we need. In our case it's actually a benefit that they don't come with tuners, that way we're not paying for something we're probably not allowed to use here. Seems to do a good job of up-sampling, but not all resolutions (especially those larger than 1366x768) seem to be able to be displayed.
Only reason it's not five stars is that it would be nice if the unit would turn on automatically when it receives VGA input.
