  1. My brother bought this at BestBuy on Black Friday as well as a Premium Xbox360 console, and boy do they get along well. I thought this tv was a 1080p for very long because on the box it says TrueHD. I was quite dissappointed when I figured out it wasn't, but than again you cannot tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on a tv smaller than 50". Also, the higher the resolution, the more errors you will see in the picture, so I guess I don't really mind. It's a nice Monitor, and recommened it to anyone that is looking for something not too big and cheap (can be found online for as cheap as $700).

  2. I picked up this monitor about 8 months ago, which has given me plenty of time to play with, and I have to say that for the price, you just can not go wrong with this monitor. Plenty of inputs (to one of the previous reviewers - there are 2 component inputs,) excellent picture quality, and fairly easy to adjust for best picture. 2 suggestions for previous reviewers and anyone who buys this monitor. For good black levels (and better picture in general) in a darkened room, get a light to place behind the monitor and illuminate the wall behind it - this helps your eye perceive the distance between the screen and the wall, making black and color look better and reducing eye strain. This should be done for all large screens in dark rooms, not just this one. Also, a previous reviewer said there was no digital audio on the HDMI - the HDMI cable carries audio (and very well, thank you) and most new home-theater boxes have an HDMI input and output so you can go from cable box to audio box, then from audio box to monitor. All in all, a great monitor.

  3. I bought this tv at best buy about a month ago for $800 it is on clearance. I went into the store planning on purchasing a panasonic 42 plasma and saw this model sitting on the shelf. I saved $400 picking this up. Looks awesome in my living room. excellent quality picture and sound. my friends love coming over to watch sports.

  4. I had no intention of buying an HD set until my trusty 32" Philips tube died on me at the beginning of the year. I didn't want to spend a lot, and this set was the best deal I could find.

I've had a 19" Westinghouse LCD monitor for my PC for almost 2 years and I've loved it, so I looked into what they had to offer for HDTVs/monitors. I compared this with big name brand plasmas and I have to say the picture on this set is better in some ways than most I've seen. While dark grays and blacks come through a little grainy (this is with the LCD technology, not this particular set) bright colors come through phenomenally. The first movie I played on it was SW Episode III, just to watch the intro space battle scene. I was blown away. The level of detail, the colors, the resolution, fast motion, everything was great.

I also wanted to see what my DVD options were. I didn't want to get Blue Ray b/c it's so expensive, and even with HD DVD, I'd have to replace my library with new discs which would cost a fortune. So I got a DVD upconverter. I think I spent 70.00 on the player and 20.00 on an HDMI cable (upconverting only works with HDMI.) It takes my boring old standard def DVDs and makes it look close enough to HD without really being able to tell the difference, making this set just that much better.

So for the price, for the array of inputs and for the great picture, this is a good purchase. If you want to spend a little more, there's a 1080p version of this set, though unless you're getting Blue Ray DVD, there's no rush to have 1080p. And if you want to spend a lot of money, go with DLP and steer clear of plasma.

Good job Westinghouse! You now have a loyal customer.

  5. Monitor worked well for the first 9 months I had it then a couple of power issues that were more annoying than anything. At about 15 months the screen went blank and no longer displayed anything, a few calls to Westinghouse and they determined after their "rock solid" 1 year warranty it becomes a giant paper weight. A couple authorized repiar shops won't even look at it as parts are hard to get from Westinghouse. I would never buy from Westinghouse again without an extended warranty!

  1. The plugin panel on the back of the screen flopped around when I tried to connect the wiring. A blue line developed on the left of the screen and this seems appear at random and may or may not be there when the set is turned on and may start up suddenly an then go off for a while and then reappear later. I though it would be easier to buy this online but I sending it back and heading to Best Buy. Maybe I got a lemon and maybe they are all lemons. Won't look at the brand again.

  1. This television is amazing. HD channels, and even standard def DVD, look incredible via my Oppo dvd player. Highly recommended. Almost past the break-in point!

  2. I bought this TV about a month ago. I bought it through Vanns. Beatiful display, nice looking, and cheap. I also purchased a Peerless wall mount and had it up on the wall in about 30 minutes (although fishing your cables through your wall takes the most time). I highly recommend this TV, great picture from a trusted company.

  3. Just a quick heads up. I bought this TV just yesterday. I already have a 1080p DLP upstairs which is 63 inches. This plasma is really only 720 but that's still "HD". Anyway even though it is not 1080 I can tell you, it still looks as good and sometimes even better than my tv upstairs. I think it's because it's a plasma, and also that it's smaller. Smaller = more sqwooshed together pixels. If you can save a bit of money getting a 720 plasma over a 1080 plasma like it did. Go for it. Your HDTV, video games, and blurays are gonna look SHARP! Speaking of blu's, I played a bit of appoclypto for reference. And again it looks just as good if not better than my larger true 1080p television upstairs. This is an AWESOME TV. Go for it!! Panasonic is rated in the top 3 for plasma TVs, you can't go wrong with this.

  4. Received the TV early with no problems. I researched plasma TV's for about 3 months before choosing this one. I basically looked at Panasonic, Samsung and Pioneer. Pioneer was a bit out of my price range. Panasonic and Samsung both have great sets, but I ended up going with Panasonic because of its antiglare properties and the picture seemed a bit better to me. I have to say that I'm extremely happy with my purchase. The picture quality is fantastic. The antiglare works well. And the controller is well thought out and easy to handle. I love this TV. Plus Amazon has the best prices by a few hundred bucks.

  5. The TV is great - but the white glove service consisted of dragging this enormous box into my living room and leaning it against the wall. Thank goodness my husband and I could lift it, but if you have any doubts about whether or not you can lift it... I'd really quiz the delivery service ahead of time. Quite annoying.

  1. Bought for bedroom. Not bad for price although picture quality is not as good as I thought it would be. Does not come w/instruction manual, must download from computer w/CD they enclose. May need to purchase connecting cables compatible w/your cable choice. Sound good. I think the accessory control is a bit difficult to manage and setting up one remote w/your cable choice is or is not possible due to a product code not being available. Direct TV has tried to help me out but it hasn't worked fully yet. Calling Olevia support was not helpful.

  2. I received the TV in Fine working condition and fast too! The only problem I have is that there is no co-axial port on the TV, so unless you have digital cable, a VCR or DVD player, or just want to use it as a nice computer monitor this is the TV for you. Great value. But you must have seen my face when I opened the box and I couldn't connect my direct cable to the TV. I'm sending it back today.

  3. This unit does not have a coaxial (RF) connection, so if you don't use a cable box (basic and basic+ service users will not have a box) you wont be using this TV.

  4. Don't buy a Syntax Olevia! I bought one and it died almost to the day the warranty went out. Customer service said I would have to pay to ship it back and pay the parts and labor to fix it and that would cost over half of the TV's cost. They wouldn't offer to help with anything and they said they lost my registration card, the same one they used to call me with to ask me how I liked it a week after I bought the TV. So all I can do is to post this to every blog I can to try to inform others.

  5. After less than a year my TV lost sound and picture. It should have still been under warranty, but Syntax (the manufacturer) was of absolutely no help. Don't let the price of this TV entice you like it did me. Pay a little more and get a TV that will last longer.

  1. We originally bought a Philips TV at Best Buy, but after we got home and opened it up, found it didn't have the analog connection we needed to hook up the very fine stereo system we had(after the salesman and Best Buy told us it did). Best Buy took it right back and offered us this set in exchange even though it was priced slightly higher. Very easy to install and it had all the connections we needed. However, at first I wasn't too happy with the picture. It seemed a little dark and a bit muddy but after researching on the internet and reading the manual a little more, I found that it can be adjusted and now the picture quality on most stations is great! I have to note that we don't subscribe to cable or satellite or any other programs, just get our local on air channels. We do watch a lot of DVDs and there's no problem with them. The main problem we have now has to do with the station signals which, if not good that day, cause pixels to break up and freeze at times. At first I thought it was the TV and went back to Best Buy where another salesperson showed me how to adjust the antenna and check the signal, so we get the best signal possible now. Overall I would rate this TV pretty well. Have had it about 3 weeks now so we'll see how it stands the test of time. Although, I wonder if we should have sprung for a more expensive TV and one with 1080p, this one so far does what we need and looks great.

  2. The first sign something was wrong was when the price went up while it sat in my online cart. Since it was still a good deal and it was the only 42 inch that would fit on my shelve I decided to buy it.
I choose to pick it up at the store with my 5 and 6 year old . I approached the sales clerk and passed him the receipt. While waiting I hear a gagging noise coming from my son. He's throwing up all over the floor, as I'm helping him I hear the same gagging noise coming from behind me and look to see a sick clerk rushing off to the bathroom.
Everything calms down enough to get the tv home. Excited I grab my old Tv which is 100 lbs and put it on the floor, well actually on my finger. which hurt like hell and brought on a mild case of Tourette's.
I lift up the new tv and try and slid it on the shelf which is about 5 foot up and built over the fireplace. I can't get it to fit in between the shelf and ceiling. Come to find out the Tv is not 27" as stated under the spec's but close to 30".
My kids start giving me a hard time since they were missing Sponge Bob Square pants. Leaving the Tv on the floor I to a quick hook up and wallah, nothing.
Crap, now I have to read the directions. ok now everything is hooked up and nothing. so thinking I shorted out the cable box I call the cable company and they happen to have a tech in the area. He stops buy checks a few things and notices I never reconnected the cable line back to the box.
So I now have two tv's sitting on the floor and a empty shelf. I really do not know anything about the Tv yet but maybe when it shrinks a little I can watch it on the shelf it was supposed to fit on.

  3. Great tv! takes up little space, looks great and sounds great! The brightness is amazing and the HD is awesome! I use hdmi cables for an upconverter and hd cable box.The picture quality on regular channels is better than samsung, sharp, misubishi. Analog cable is clearer but no hd capability. It has a built in hd antenna but it quit workin after a few months. Cable hd offers way more anyway.I have had a few blochy moments but overall I can't complain, I do wish I woulda spent the money and got full hd capability though. Also if your payin for heat you can turn it off, this baby gets warm! Not too bad though, better than anything philips or sony has to offer!

  4. I got this tv for a screaming good deal (Under $800 - NEW). We do not even have cable in my house so I was weary of purchasing a HD TV. We went from getting 7 channels to 52 channels! I was amazed. Not only does it receive ch 2 and ch 5 (which never was possible before for us where we live), it receives 2 variations of channel 5! The picture quality is absolutely amazing so far. I haven't even had a chance to watch a Blu-Ray Disc yet! We are surrounded by forested areas and have a tree cover over the house, so I can't believe how well the receiver works. The sound is also incredible. I actually want to watch TV now. Hopefully, it doesn't make me a couch potato!

  5. I am happy that most people who gave good reviews for this tv are happy, sadly I am not one of them. I bought this tv back in march 2008. two months later, a red vertical line showed up on the screen. I called Lg since of course it is under warranty and they sent a repairman to diagnos the problem. turns out the entire screen had to be replaced. so, they replaced the screen and that very night, I notice two purple spots as well as 3-4 other shadowing spots on the screen, this really angers me because the second screen was ordered directly from LG. I am in the process of trying to get a refund and I want to get another brand of tv. I am sorry , I have heard that LG products are good but In my case , it has been nothing but a bad experience and I cannnot recommend this tv.

  1. Allow me to preface my review by saying that before buying my LCD TV I did extensive research in forums, discussion groups, and websites with user reviews like Amazon. I would have loved to have bought a Samsung or Sony, but they were out of my price range. I didn't want to cheap out with an Olevia, Septre, Element, or other "off brand." After reading more user reviews than I could handle, I finally started going to local stores to actually "see" the TVs in action.

    That's when I found this JVC 32".
Its picture quality was comparable to the Samsung's and Sony's but for hundrids less.
This TV displays rich blacks with very little gray washout. No ghosting trails to speak of, and sweet bright color.
You may want to adjust the brightness because the default setting was a little dark for my tastes.
The menu allows you a very good degree of control over the picture, though I wish I had more control over the Gama instead of several gamma presets. No biggie though.

The thing I love most about the TV is the digital tuner. All new HDTV's have a digital tuner, so maybe this is nothing special, but I LOVE it.
I don't have cable, but through the antenna on my roof I get a TON of digital channels in really clear quality. To see and HD broadcast pulled out of the air from one of the major stations is just INCREDIBLE.

One thing that may annoy some is the TV's "boot-up" time. When you turn the unit on, its a good 10 seconds before you get a TV or DVD picture. Not a biggie for me though.

One time the unit did "freeze" on me and was non responsive to remote or button commands. I unplugged it, waited for 5 seconds, plugged it back in, and it was fine. That does scare me though as I've only have the unit for 1 month.

This unit makes my Xbox 360 games look Awesome (no motion blur issues), and my DVD's look great, though I now want an HD DVD player, since I've had a taste of true HD (Yum!).
The sound is really good for such small (hidden) speakers, and the unit has an audio out to send a signal to my surround system.
No VGA or DVI port, but I hook my computer up via an DVI to HDMI cable (bought here on Amazon for less than $10) and the picture is hugely awesome!

Why only four stars and not five? Well, the 1 "freeze" really scared me though nothing like that has happened since, no VGA input, & boot-up time issue. This unit is GREAT but not Perfect.
I really do recommend this TV for anyone who wants a high quality picture from a name brand, but can't afford to fork out a Grand for a TV.

  2. I bought this TV for amazing price of $500 (really nice sale :) ). For this price, I am very satisfied with the quality product I got. Image is nice and crisp. Especially HD programming - it is just awesome. The only minus I find is that the TV lacks VGA connector. If you have older computer (e.g. it does not provide DVI connector), you have to use S-VHS connection... However, for this price, I can live with that!

  3. Once again another rip off on shipping. Beware of low ball prices with makeups on the shipping tab. Pavillion seems to love to do this!!!!

  1. Had this tv for over a year now, and its still just as it was new. Beautiful pic. You do need to adjust to your custom preferences to get the pic your want. Factory settings are a bit too much.
Turn down the brightness to 60. contrast to 85 to 90. and pick the pixel plus option to on. and dynamic contrast to maximum option, and you get a great picture. digtial video is not blurry. however digitized analog, like on some cable is still a bit off though, cause it was not filmed or taped in digital. all dvd's look great.

  2. Awesome TV, bought used for $700 with the stand. Picture is beautiful in High Definition although all I have is basic cable now and that picture is somewhat blurry because it's not in HD. It's okay though because I bought the TV for my Xbox 360 which looks sweet hooked up via HDMI in 1080i Resolution. I highly reccomend this TV if you are looking for a big TV at a great price with awesome picture quality.

  1. This TV has an amazing picture from every source that I have hooked up to it (Comcast HD, XBox 360, PS3 & Blu Ray). That's the end of the good news.

The customer service folks from LG are not all that helpful and you'll get transfered a few times before getting to the TV Warrany people. I spent 55 minutes on the phone during my last experience, the majority of that time was spent listening to elevator music, waiting to get an appointment with one of their authorized repair goons. My Amazing picture has been amazingly broken for 37 days now ... they've made two attempts to fix it and both failed (well, actually, one succeeded for about 4 hours), the remainder of that 37 days has been spent waiting on backorder parts and rescheduling appointments.

Hopefully yours will not break down because LG, although they claim to be the greatest company since sliced peanut butter, do not blink at allowing a customer to sit with a broken product for over a month during the holidays. I purchased two LCD TV's for Christmas and you can bet your sweet rear that they do not have an "LG" label on them.

Did I already mention that it looked great while it worked (almost a whole year).

  1. Having researched/compared hdtvs for several months, I could not be more happier with the decision made to purchase this model. Especially catching it on Amazon for under $1000! Delivery was quick and professional. Upscaling dvd player: picture is flawless, Directv HD: picture is amazingly clear, Directv SD: picture is actually very good (but HD will not take long to spoil you). I have found the factory picture settings to be just fine. If you don't like the factory settings, there are (what seems to be) endless possiblities of picture adjustments at your disposal. Sound is great (has an EQ). TV looks great on the wall. If you're reading this while researching...stop now and buy this model. You will not be disappointed.

  2. First of all, I would just like to commend the Eagle service. I am on the 3rd floor in my apartment building, and getting a TV of this size up to my Apt would be difficult enough, and this service made those issues irrelevant.

    As for the TV:
I was so dead set on the LCD 40-42", and 1080P, but after I did some research, I realized that 1080P isn't going to be in wide use for quite some time. So I noticed this TV had a contrast ratio of 15,000 to 1. Most LCD TV's had 10,000 to 1 or so, so I viewed this as a huge plus

I did more research of this TV on AVS forum, to make sure that there were no issues, manufacturing defects etc, and to my knowledge, I was unable to find such issues.

I set up the TV on the wall using a Peerless mount, and when I finally turned the TV on and connected it to an HD source.. all I can say was WOW!! I am totally hooked. We ended up putting this in our bedroom, meanwhile we have a 30" Samsung Slimfit TV in the Living Room, so you must imagine there is now a lot of TV watching in Bed.

    In summary:
For those who are hesistant to go with a Plasma - trust me on this - Do not hesitate, and go and get this TV you will not be disappointed!!

  3. I've had this TV for about a month now and am very happy with it. It has a beautiful picture. We have used the standard cable input as well as a progressive DVD player (not an up-converting model) with component input. Both have looked really nice. When browsing for TVs at Best Buy I noticed that many looked really awful with just a standard TV (non-HD) input. This TV does not have that problem.

What really drove me to this TV was the price. Plasma has a much nicer picture than LCD, and this price was awesome compared to others in its size range (including LCDs). We sit about 8-10 ft from the TV, and see no need for 1080i resolution for a 42" TV. The 720p is plenty good enough. 480p (DVD, standard digital TV) looks good as well.

The only potential downsides to this TV -- it does have a significant amount of glare. I control that with window blinds and room lighting. I don't watch a lot of daytime TV, so it doesn't bother me much. Also, the controls feel rather slow (especially changing channels). I only compare the speed to our old CRT TV, though, so I don't know how that compares with other plasma or LCD TV's.

  4. I have owned this tv for over half a year and I love the set. The picture is second to none and the quality of the product is great. The only thing that I have an issue with is the remote that comes with the tv. It does not allow me to control my TIVO dvr and there are certain functions that I am unable to perform when controlling my digital cable box. However, I would buy this tv over any other that I have experienced, it continually impresses me.

  5. This TV is awesome! I've never had any problems with it and the picture it delivers is flawless! I have played DVD's on it, watched HDTV with an antenna, and play computer games with it and it work great for each scenario. I have recommended this TV to everyone I know. I did a lot of research before I purchased this TV because I did not know if I wanted to get this one or a Sony. But I have no regrets now that I have bought this one!

  1. The unit has a terrible picture even with a HD source and has begun to turn itself off randomly up to 20 times a day. Plan no contacting Samsung Monday but am concerned after reading several sites with same unit and no help at all was given to the people by Samsung. I really wish i had not blown my money on this lemon!!!

  2. This is a product I would highly recommend. I did not get the 1080p version of this TV because I have read that once you get over 36" you cannot tell the difference between having 720 and 1080. In any event from the standpoint of price I am very happy. From the standpoint of space I am very happy as this TV is only about 12" thick and is light (60lbs). It is very easy to set up, the remote is easy to use (although I am transitioning over to a harmony remote) and all of the functions are easy to acess.

  3. I bought mine for $899 during the pre-Christmas sales at Best Buy - can't beat that price. The TV takes a little longer to start up (15-20 sec) than I would like, but once it's going, it has a beautiful picture. Have my Toshiba HD-DVD, HD cable, and my Xbox360 hooked up to it, and the picture quality is AMAZING. It's in a room with windows to the left of the TV, but the picture still looks vibrant and there is little to no reflection off the screen. You would do well to buy a calibration DVD to work on the contrast, brightness, etc., but overall, it's a great piece of electronics for a great price. Until cable/satellite starts broadcasting in 1080p, there is little incentive to upgrade. If you don't need to hang it on a wall, this TV is the way to go.

  4. I bought the TV about 7 months ago as I was moving into a dorm for college and I needed a new TV. While it is way bigger than I need for a dorm room I figued why not spend the extra money for a bigger TV then spend 150-300 on a little 20inch when I'd be buying a larger TV later when I live in an apartment. At the time this was around $875 and was the best deal out there.

I was wary at first as there are many complants with these kind of systems. However, I have never had a problem with unit. I think it has been more than I expected. While it is a 720 and not 1080 I don't think there is much difference. While I am in a dorm I don't have a normal array of HD channels, but I do get your basic CBS/NBC channels in HD and they look completely crystal clear. I can't make a noticable difference from the 720 to 1080. The only time you can really tell the difference is if your in a store and a 720 is next to a 1080. Since it is a rear projection it is lamp lit and other complained of the lamp light flowing out from the vents in the back. I don't really notice this, even in with all the lights off. If you have it directing against a wall then you can see it, but it's not enough to be bothersome and if you wish can be easily blocked. Only con is the warm up and warm down as it is a bulb light, but it only takes a few seconds. I wouldn't turn it off and on rapidly or leave it on constantly as the bulb will burn out faster.

  5. I own a Samsung 50 inch DLP. It was beautiful until I hooked my XBox up to it and almost the day after the warrenty was up, it broke. After googleing the "shut-off" problem, I found out it is a common issue with ALL Samsung DLPs; which sometimes they can't fix!!! I have no extended warrenty and am screwed.
Google samsung DLP problems before buying.
