  1. This tv is beautiful and easy to set up.The worst of it is that it's best viewed when fully vertical, and the prop in the back isn't long enough for that, so I needed a piece of wood under it to raise it. It doesn't have its verticality worked out - unless you mount it on a wall. It has outlets and inlets for seemingly any device, and suggests hookups. It's been a daily part of my life for a month, and it's beautiful, and easy to control and hook up. I would highly recommend it.

  1. The TV was great for the first 8 month, until in the past 2 weeks a lots of blues dots star in the top of my screen, I dont think that you pay for a HD TV with 42 " and be happy with that kind of fails. I was reading a lot of review in the web and this is an error from the manufacture. but the coustumer service is very poor, I dont know if I will buy another.

  2. I love this TV! I own two 50", and one 42"...I was trying to order another 42". What I absolutely HATE is this company. Amazon claims there's a glitch in their system which won't allow me to leave feedback for this company, so this is my only means of doing so. Here's the story:

First, understand that my wife and I have been Amazon customers for over 2 years.

After 15 days of waiting, 9 phone calls to LCDMART, and 3 phone calls to Amazon, I finally cancelled the order for my plasma screen through Amazon.

The SAME day I cancelled the order, I FINALLY received a call from LCDMART and the representative told me that I'd receive my TV within 3 business days, and that he was emailing me a tracking number. He claimed that Amazon takes 10 business days to submit orders to his company...from experience, I find that very hard to believe. I waited until the following day, and not having received my tracking number, I called yet again, and was told by John at LCDMART that he was emailing me a tracking number immediately. I did not receive it, so I called YET AGAIN, and was told that I would not receive a tracking number until the following day. I asked "How can I receive the TV by tomorrow if you don't have a tracking number today?" I then asked when I would receive the TV. I was told, "I don't know."

I asked to cancel my order, and the representative for LCDMART said, "No. I can't cancel your order." I repeat, he said, "NO!"

After a few choice words, and my persistent demand that my order be cancelled, he put me on hold, then told me my order was cancelled.

This company is doing Amazon a great disservice, and is damaging its reputation. LCDMART did not return a single phone message, or email inquiry.

I'm sure LCDMART will find some reason to make me look like an unreasonable customer, but read the reviews...I'm not the first to experience this, and this "feedback bug" appears to have been in effect since 5/2007, so NO feedback, negative or positive, has been submitted to this company since then.

Buy the product, you'll be happy. Just don't use LCDMART.

  3. Bought this TV and loved it at first. About 3 months after purchase It developed a hum in the audio on the component connections. Called Samsung and they sent someone out who took the TV away and repaired it. Came back and had it now had a hum on the output side (going to the receiver) and 4 months later it also developed a problem with the screen (blue spot on the bottom left hand side). Called Samsung again. They sent out yet another (non Samsung Authorized repair center). They've had the TV now for over 15 days and no update from them. My advice to you is don't count on Samsung repair. They are worthless. Also, it should be known that this TV does not support variable output on the sound so you'll always have to adjust at the receiver (just a note). If the TV worked correctly, I'd probably give it a better review. It is nice, but if you have problems at all, you'll be in trouble. Buyer beware!!! Samsung will not take care of you if you have problems!!!!

  4. I bought this TV on 10/31/2006. It's been one year. I have had absolutely no problems whatsoever. I've noticed a few people's comments about a blue pixel showing up on the screen..I have not had this problem.I did have my screen professionally wall-mounted.But, I don't think the professional installation has had anything to do with long-term quality.I originally paid $1599.00 for this TV from a big-box store. I can't believe the price is around $950-$999. There may be newer versions with supposedly better features, BUT, for the price, this TV is great! The reason I bought this TV was that 2 guys who worked in the store personally owned this unit. I figured they must know what they are doing. Some have commented about the buzzing noise when the volume is turned up--I keep the volume on zero and feed it through a stereo system so I have never had the humming/buzzing problem people are talking about. However, I have turned off my stereo and used the volume built into the TV and did notice a humming sound. If you are considering buying this TV but do not plan to hook it up to a home stereo of some sort..you might want to reconsider buying this unit. But, if you plan to use your stereo volume---then no problem. I guess the humming could be considered a drawback.
One interesting anecdote about this unit. It will definately induce envy from your friends and family. One of the selling points of this TV,to me, was it's piano-black-finish edges. This gives it the look of the expensive Pioneer Elite TVs. I don't personally like flat screen TVs with the greyish borders--they tend to look plastic and cheap. This TV looks expensive! It's a show-stopper if you wall mount it like I have, very clean and neat looking.
Overall I want to state that I have no specific allegiance to Samsung. I am not a Samsung employee. I do not own Samsung stock. I used to think of Samsung as a low to mid quality Korean electronics maker. If you had told me 5 years ago I would be paying $1599.00 for ANYTHING Samsung..I would have told you, you were crazy! Overall, I have been very satisfied. I would not hesitate to recommend this TV, especially for the price as it stands today.

  5. the blue "dots" appear. I've had this about a year-and-a-half and the entire left side of the screen becomes a blue smimmer of varying translucency after about 1-2 hours of use. This has started to spread to the middle and top of the screen and is ruining the experience of watching anything. Anyone have any advice? Samsung customer service said they never heard of this, but it seems that I'm not the only one with this problem (and no more warranty). YIKES!

  1. I bought this TV about 4 weeks ago. It is great, no problems or issues with it. Great picture. I've had friends with sony's and sharp's over and they swear it is a more superior picture than theirs. I read all the reviews for this and was worried about possible problems with having to flash the chipset, but not one single problem. I guess the earlier production models had some issues. The 15000:1 contrast ratio is awesome, and the new models are posting 25k and also 100k. It can from a company called Vann's. It took 5 days to get by way of ground shipping. I had an all around pleasurable experience with Vann's and Amazon.

  2. I originally bought the tv a year ago. I wanted to give it a full year before I could put my honest opinion on here and I must say WOW. ALL of the HD channels look amazing, xbox 360 is a wow, blu ray holy cow. Everything is so vivid and crisp. Not sure what the price is now but if you are looking for a 1080p TV that is proven you should buy this one.

  3. Greatest thing to happen to my living room ever. <--period
    ---------------------------------------------------------- <--underlined
i have had my tv for about 3 months now, and i am constantly amazed at it's clarity and depth of color. the black is black and the white is white. no funky shadowing. no weird pixels, or discoloration. maybe the 40" screen was a slight overkill in my little one bedroom apartment, but i have been overkilling all my entertainment since i was 13. it just comes naturally. a lot of purchasing a tv is preference once you sort out the bad products from the good, and this is definately a good tv. i have seen it next to sony bravias, and phillips big screen plasmas,(not to mention all the other un-noteworthy tv's) and so far nothing beats it on realistic smooth continual color. P.S. amazon's delivery service sounded very scary, but the price was so low i had to try. i am glad i did because it was actually quite amazing. it arrived very promptly and they actually had to wait on me to get ready for it. they sent it to a distribution center in my area (Nor-Cal) and called me to set up a delivery time. they wanted to bring it the next day but i needed more time to clear space so i had them bring it the day after. it arrived right on time in perfect condition. we plugged it in right there and tried it on all my hardware, and i then signed off on it and never looked back.

  4. We have been very pleased with this TV. The picture and the sound are excellent. I would recommend this TV to a friend.

  5. Samsung LNT4065F 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV
I bought this TV for myself and then recommended it to my Mother. Now we are both enjoying vivid, bright, and colorful LCD High Definition TV. The TV is gorgeous on the stand. The sound is rich. One of the great surprises was that without a high definition cable converter box the TV finds and displays the available High Definition channels on its own. Yes the picture would be better if I did have it connected to a digital cable box but for no additional fee I can view High definition TV because of the built in converter in the TV.

I have given it 4 stars as my other high definition CRT tv still beats the LCD TV in clarity and detail.

  1. I orginally bought this TV because it was rated very highly. I had a couple of Samsung LCD's and thought I would try a plasma. When I had it delivered and tried to set it up I found that I could not increase the brightness and contrast to the level I wanted. Depending on the channel, this aspect of the picture varied between good and fair. The resolution, however, was excellent. To make a long story short, after investigation I realized that the difference in pictures between the plasmas and LCD's was significant. I had read that the LCD's were brighter but I always assumed that picture adjustment could minimize the difference. Wrong. Now beauty is in the eye of the beholder, because other people were satisfied with the picture. However, it didn't work for me and I exchanged it for another Samsung LCD and I am now very happy. If for any reason you are sensitive to the brightness and vibrance of the picture then I would recommend you note the differences in technologies.

  2. This Panasonic Plasma HDTV is simply an incredible product. The picture quality stands out as nothing short of impressive. I found this HDTV to strike the perfect balance between excellent quality and price. After months of searching for a quality product to invest my money in, this HDTV does not disappoint.

While there has been some history of people expressing concern about the picture brightness of plasma flat-panels (i.e. being too dim), I have found this Panasonic to provide ample brightness of picture. As a matter of fact, a description in my house of the picture is how the colors "glow." Of course this is referring the the brighter colors. This leads me to another aspect of the picture, the darker colors. This is where this plasma really stands out. The darker colors are well defined with deep blacks. The grays and blacks are well delineated. For someone who likes to view a lot of movies, the strength of it's display of darker colors is something that I have found impressive. Additionally, the plasma is excellent in it's display of motion. For a sports fan, such as myself, this plasma does an excellent job of displaying the motion of sports.

Also of note with this plasma is that the performance of the speakers turned out to be a pleasant surprise. One of my wife's first comments about this Panasonic was the good quality of sound from it's speakers.

After having this Panasonic for about 4 months, I've had no problems with this product and have found it to be free of defects.

While I've spent much time providing a "glowing" review of this set, I'll turn to any perceived weaknesses. They are few, and I almost have to search for them.

One of the main weaknesses that I found is the need for tender, love & care that the plasma requires. Specifically, plasmas can be at danger for screen "burn-in" by leaving a static image on the screen for too long. While I have not had any burn-in problems, I do remain vigilant about not leaving the tv on while unattended. At least this helps me to save on my electricity bill as these HDTVs are known to be energy hogs. As a precaution, I do not leave letterbox shows on the screen for hours uninterrupted. My complaint regarding this weakness is that the manual mentions image retention/screen burn-in, but the manual does not clearly define the length of time before there is danger of burn-in.

One last weakness that I found is that there are only 2 HDMI connection ports. While that is just enough for me, it would be nice to have an extra just in case.

In conclusion, I am extremely impressed with this Panasonic plasma. I am really glad that I choose this set, and my family and I get much enjoyment out of it. I view this set as being worth every penny that I paid for it. Panasonic has won me over.

  3. straight up, i did my research for about a year while i saved money. this is the best set you will find for your money, everything you've read about it is true, except one thing. Burn-in. Gamers beware. Even if you watch HD-TV with a symbol in the corner like 'TLC' you'll get burn in if the icon doesn't move. I have this set and a good friend does too. what really upsets me is playing my ps3 through this. Sharp as a razor yes. adding a static wallpaper for a custom theme though is a BAD idea. Try it, you'll see. then play some music and turn the visualizer on. if you cant see the burn in, then get your eyes checked. play rock band or guitar hero FOR AN HOUR (which is'nt hard to do), turn any white background on, look for the game icon burn ins (rock meter, etc). Generally they go away after a couple hours, but its frustrating. BOTH my set and my good friend's set do the same thing. even a half hour of a static image will create burn in. Granted its better now a days than it used to be, at least it goes away after some time.... if you're a gamer, pick up the sharp aquos. no burn-in on an lcd set; and the runner up as far as a great picture goes (reds are a little funny at times though). Reviews are slightly lower, but hell, you could at least leave a game system on pause without havening to worry about switching the inputs to avoid burn in. Im serious folks. take heed. great set, bad for gamers and burn-in. sharp as a razor though....

  4. Excellent. TV came quickly with no damage, which was a concern because of its size and delicacy!!

  5. I bought a Panasonic plasma 2 years ago and it died for no reason. It will now cost $2000 for the board just to fix it. The TV repairman said he has never seen such a high cost for a replacement board. Multiple different board tried without luck. Still waiting.

  1. This a rare find...there aren't too many manufacturers making a 32" Plasma. With that said, this was the cheapest price I could find on this size plasma. But the TV was not cheaply made. The price does not reflect the craftsmanship of the TV. It has a very sturdy frame and the picture is very smooth and the colors are very deep. And XBOX 360 looks awesome on this tv. If you dont want to spend $900+ on a name *Samsung*, you should consider this SOYO. It's worth much more than the price tag its given.

  2. I bought this for my sister as a change over TV to digital. She absolutely loves it. It's clear and bright. She has always had trouble reading the words on the bottom of some programs but can easily read them now on this TV.

    Thanks again. Excellent product!

  1. In 14 months, the TV does not power on. Stand by led keeps blinking. Manual says TV needs service. I called Sony 800 number. They referred to Norman Electronics in Atlanta area. Technician diagnosis indicate some part(s) are blown (fuse or diode). It'll cost anywhere between $400 and $650 to fix. No guarantee of the fix. It's very upsetting. Wife is upset as well.
My daughter can't watch her cartoons anymore. Sony will not fix.
If you search on google, "Stand by led keeps blinking". It appears that several people have experienced similar issues. Numerous blogs on this. Buyers Beware. Apparently, Normans Electronics does not have good reputation either. They are worst in customer service. They'll not give any diagnosis in writing, nor the part number. No guarantees of the fix. Sony should recall this model and repair all such issues for free. I'm willing to file suit (possibly class action suit on Sony) if others would like to join then email me at SamGabam@yahoo.com. Indicate subject line: "Sony TV". Are there any lawyers out there who would like to take this case then please send me an email with the same subject line. Again, do not buy this TV or any TVs that are Sony.
    Thanks,
    Sam.

  2. Same story as other reviewer. 14 months after purchase the TV dies and the on switch blinks 9 times pauses and blinks 9 times as a repeat pattern. 500$ to 600$ is the apparent cost to fix. They say it is probably a "deflector card" which they said is related to a power supply is probable because it makes no start-up sounds.

Sony refused to tell me what the 9 blink code pattern means and the repair service sounds like they are guessing at the cause and probability of fix. ("I'm 90 % sure"). But my service at least gaurantees either a fix or the cost of only a single service call (100$ for 5 minutes of taking the screws off the back).

If you buy this TV make sure to get the extended-&-re extended warranty (and factor it into costs of camparisons with TV's w/o the warranty.

I too have the (power supply?)interference referred to by another user and now understand why this TV never has been to quality expectations.

As long you get a lawyer who will cover "all" the costs of the class action suit (in other words don't poor any good money after the bad), I think you may have a winner.

  3. Great box for movies. I also have a High Def cable box connected to HDMI. HD channels look great, regular channels are mediocre. WS57 designed for letterbox movies. For example, this TV shines with widescreen movies. Recently bought Apollo 13 IMAX edition and it looked like film on the screen. I've had no problems with the unit in over a year. Downside for all projection TVs are viewing angle and size of unit (needs an entire corner of a room).

  4. I have had this TV for several years now, watching all types of HD programming and DVDs. Very good picture, especially in white/black compared to LCD at a much lower price that flat screens. It is a little large (in depth) but if you ahve the space I highly recommend it.

  5. I bought the TV used on craigslist....wonderful HD picture with my Dish...plays movies great....lots of inputs/outputs...only downside is no HDMI connection...just component and DVI inputs. Other then than great TV so far.

  1. This is a good TV. I previously had an Olevia (Syntax) 27" LCD HDTV, and I have to say that this TV is a significant improvement. I recommend this TV!

    The Good Features

The speakers are good (no hiss or low quality digital sound). The speakers are hidden below the TV. So it's good for confined spaces. They're not as good as a $500 surround sound system with a sub-woofer, but you get what you pay for.

It has an option to turn off the TV power LED when it is not on, which is helpful if you sleep in the room with the TV. The LED also flashes when it receives a command from the remote control, which is good feedback when you don't notice something is blocking the remote control signal to the TV, like the edge of a TV stand. When the TV is off, the red LED looks like HAL 9000 from the movie 2001, which I got a kick out of.

I like the swivel stand on the TV, which is good for easier cable setup. It's Energy Star compliant. It has a great user interface for adding and removing TV channels after you have automatically scanned all the channels (tabbed panels with a preview pane). It can handle HDTV (ATSC) and analog TV (NTSC) signals.

The picture quality is much better than my previous LCD TV. I have no complaints when it's viewed from a typical viewing angle.

    The Bad Features

Even though it has great side to side viewing angle, it has a slightly worse than average viewing angle from the bottom. So when mounting this TV up high, you should consider wall mounting it with a downward tilt. Viewing from 45 degrees from below washes out the colors, but this viewing angle isn't typical for most people.

The reflection from the border on the TV can be distracting in a room with a lot of lights when displaying a show with very low light levels (e.g. a horror movie typically has very low light levels). The border also shows dust a little more easily than a matte finish. It's a nice and shiny TV though.

  2. Sound is nice for such a small TV. The speaker grills are underneath the housing and point downwards. They are also 'ported' on the rear so there's actually more sound eminating from the rear of the TV than towards the front. Because of that, this TV is probably best placed against a wall so the sound coming from the rear gets reflected.
Interestingly, although the treble and bass settings both have a typical range of 0 to 100, I can hear very little difference no matter where the audio settings are. Treble and (especially) Bass set at 0 sounds doesn't sound much different than when set to 100.

Color is excellent, but whites/blacks are still 'iffy' for me - playing with the settings, either the blacks seem too black, or the whites get too blown out. I admittedly haven't seriously sat down and tried to deal with it, though.

Left/right viewing angle is good. The image turns a little pink when viewed from an extreme right and left angle, but it has to be pretty extreme as I said.
Top/bottom viewing angle is sub par. Standing above the TV and looking downwards to the screen, the picture looks a little washed out. From below looking up, the picture is dark. You can see a difference in the image (but not too bad) when sitting upright versus laying down due to the elevation difference. (This is with the TV about 5' away.)

A 1/4" blue LED appears when the TV is powered on. Nicely, it's a somewhat dimmed LED, and not one of those nova-bright blue LEDs that so many electronics like to 'dazzle' with. When turned off, a red LED appears instead indicating 'stand by'. It's also not too bright. The settings allow either LED to be turned off permanently.

A power button is on the front, right underneath this power LED. Other buttons for volume, channel, input selection, menu are on the right side of the housing out of sight. They're not easily 'viewable' for those that might put this TV inside a small entertainment center.

It takes about 8-9 seconds from when the TV is powered on for the TV to 'boot up' and start showing the currently tuned-in channel. The blue LED blinks once a second or so during this warmup phase so that you know your hitting the power button actually did something.

The remote is *very* nicely laid out with easy access to commonly used features such as quick change of aspect ratio, quick change of closed captioning, Favorite channels, button for quick access to picture settings, another for audio, settings, etc. The remote was actually a deciding factor for me since a competitor's set of the same exact price, about the same specs, sitting right next to this LG had a horriblely huge remote filled with a massive array of tiny little buttons, probably one button for each and every feature. I do wish LG used some more colors for the buttons, though; most are black, a couple are light grey.

  3. We are extremely pleased with the LG 26" LCD TV. The picture is bright and crisp, sound control is good, remote is responsive and easy to use, and it was plug and play. Good value for good product.
