  1. I bought my system in Nov 2007 because I was looking for a system that can read files off USB and memory cards. It worked good may be for few days. Now only thing works is Radio. Other functions like CD, USB and SD card works rarely and have their own timings when to start working and when to quit. I opened the system so many times and played with this and that, plugged and unplugged internal connector cables, basically opened up the whole system from A-Z and closed it back for many times and still have the same problem. I will work on this piece of garbage for some more time whenever I will be free and try to figure out where the problem is. I like its functions but quality is zero out of ten. I got it for $40 but it doesn't even worth that money. I will be really cautious buying anything from COBY in the future

  1. Easy to install and pretty sturdy. Nice finish. The only gripe I have is it didn't look exactly like the picture. The back panel was different. On the picture, it had a 3-4 inch vertical back panel. The item I got was a removal full back panel. But, I just left off and looks good that way.

  1. The stand is sharp and sturdy. I have a 46" lcd on it and it can take the weight well. I don't know how it'll perform with a tv 52" or larger. I'm very happy with it.

My wife actually built it while I was tearing down the boxes and cleaning up the messy styrofoam. Cleaning was equally as hard as building it, meaning it was actually fairly simple to put together.

I was initially worried about the glass shelves breaking during shipment, especially with the weight of the package and they way shipping carriers toss packages. However, the packaging was really solid and the glass didn't break despite a couple holes on the side of the main package. Solid packing.

  2. I purchased this stand to hold my new Sony 46" LCD set. It's very attractive to look at in the store, and with some planning and work, it will look very good in your home.

It's easy to assemble - all except the final step, mounting the glass shelves. The bottom shelf fits into the frame with no problem. The top shelf gets guided by pins into holes in the frame. In order to get the middle shelf centered, it takes two people and a good eye or a ruler. If even slightly off-center, it looks funny. It's hard to adjust it by a quarter of an inch, and it took us several tries. You can't just slide the shelf, it's held in place by two suction cups, and they're a pain in the neck to disengage then re-engage. I think I'd have given this 5 stars but for that design element (I'm tempted to say "flaw").

The electronics that I placed on the middle shelf fit perfectly, but you need to make sure yours do, too. Use a tape measure in the store. My audio receiver (17"), DVD changer/cable box stack (17"), and VCR (14") use all of the width of the middle shelf. Be advised that the support bracket for the top shelf intrudes about an inch an a half into the vertical space available for items on the middle shelf. In other words, don't measure from middle shelf to top shelf in the store - measure from middle shelf to the bottom of the support bracket. I didn't do this and just about had a coronary when I put my (big) audio receiver on the shelf. It barely fit where I thought I had plenty of room.

When looking at this thing in the store, it was placed against a black background. In my house, it's backed by an off-white wall. This means that any cables you run may be visible and unattractive. The unit comes with a cable management system, but it's semi-transparent, so the cables in the cable race are visible. If your shelves are full of stuff, it will block visibility to the cable race, so this will prove no problem. An alternative is to cut a piece of black construction paper and place behind the cables after you're set up.

My Sony is about one inch wider than the top shelf. This is not a problem for me, and the glass and black bezel on the TV go very well with the black steel and black glass of the shelf unit.

The top shelf feels pretty sturdy, but I strongly recommend placing the TV as far back as it will go so that it doesn't create a tipover danger. The main top shelf load-bearing frame elements are in the rear of the shelf unit. This is not an issue for the other shelves, since they have strong four-corner weight-bearing structures in the frame. My TV came with a mounting strap, but there's no place on this frame to attach it.

One last item, echoing the other reviewer: This comes packed in lots of styrofoam sheets, and when you unpack the shelves, thousands of tiny styrofoam pellets that are shed by the styrofoam sheets between the shelves get absolutely everywhere. Furthermore, they're full of static electricity charge from being in contact with the glass so they stick to anything and everything. I've been chasing those things for weeks, and I still turn one up every now an then. That didn't affect my review, but it is worthy of note.

All in all, this is an extremely attractive, contemporary unit. I'm very happy with it, and can't say enough about Amazon's service. Perfect.

  3. I have been eyeing this unit for over a year and finally mustered up the courage to buy it. I am so glad I did. The unit looks incredibly slick. Not as in slippery, but as in it looks darn good. Others have commented that a huge mess is left behind after assembly, but I didn't have that problem. I took everything out of the box and put the trash back in as I went along. No mess at all.

I have not yet purchased the TV I plan to use on this stand, so I only have my 37" LCD on it right now but it looks great and it holds it wonderfully. I will say though that the 37" looks might small on this stand so avoid it unless you have a large set. All of my electronics except for my Xbox 360 are black and look incredibly sharp against the black glass of this unit. The 360 sticks out a bit, but that's not a reflection on this unit, but on the 360 itself.

All in all, this is an incredibly sturdy and high quality unit. I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking to improve their setup.

UPDATE - 7/22/08 - After about a month with this product, I feel compelled to come back and mention that this unit attracts dust like you wouldn't believe. I have a couple fans blowing at all times, so maybe that's making it worse, but this stand needs to be dusted every single day. After just one day, I can draw in the dust. Maybe it's just my environment or the fans or something on my end, but I thought I'd mention it.
