  1. First of all, I was very excited to get this TV when I had done significant research regarding resolution, color, response rate and price. To get a 1080p TV of this size at this price was almost too good to be true. Alas, it was, as BOTH HDMI inputs do not work. I have two DVD players with HDMI inputs, as well as two satellite receivers with HDMI connections, and tried the TV with all of them. Buying an HD TV without the capability to use the HDMI inputs is worthless.

Hoping that the additional service contract would come in handy, I called to see about getting the TV repaired or a replacement sent out. After trying to deny coverage completely for the item being "used at a business" (it was actually just shipped to my business), the service company then said that there was no coverage under their "2 year" plan during year one EXCEPT FOR power surge coverage. In essence nothing, nada, for your $325.

Do yourself a favor and think twice, three times, or more when you are going to spend this much on an item. It simply isn't worth the hassle.

  2. We have had our 46 inch JVC for 2 months and it just gets better as it goes along. It handles SD programs very well, of course depending on the quality of the signal. Movies are wonderful to watch on this. Almost 3D like appearance.

Good remote, good menus and the sound is very good too for a built in system. You can spend more money but I don't think you'll find a better TV of this type and size.

Update: We have had this TV for 2 months now and it just gets better as it goes along. Really! The picture is better with better fleshtones and I haven't spent much time at all adjusting it.

I was initially concerned that it does not accept 1080p signal. That really won't make any difference as all but computer and some game signals going to it will be 1080i. This TV has an excellent de-interlacer in it so it will display the signal at 1080p and do it as well as any other set out there. So for my family, this is not a problem.

  3. I have had this TV for a month and have been extremely pleased. The color and clarity are amazing. Learning to use the remote and menus was not as easy as I might have expected but it did not take long to learn. I did a lot of research before purchasing this TV. Everything I found pointed to this model as having all the things I was looking for. Then when I received my 'Consumer Reports' magazine and this model (smaller screen) was the top rated, that sealed my decision. I could not find this model locally but I was extremely pleased with my purchasing experience with 'Amazon.com'. The price was a good value and the free shipping service added to the value. It arrived in one week.

I could not have asked for more for my money!

  4. I purchased this TV in December, and have found it to be excellent in every way. My HD cable box goes into one HDMI input, and my DVD player goes into the other. The picture quality out of the box was quite good, and it was even better after some adjustments using test patterns. Since I don't have any 1080p inputs, the 1080i limitation was not an issue for me.

While I use an external receiver for audio, the built in audio is surprisingly good as well.

I would highly recommend this set.

  5. When we received this TV, we loved it. Within sixty days the smart port quit working and before the warranty was out the TV begin to "Marble-ize" (what the repair center calls it). I said it looked like mother of the pearl shining in the sun.

Anyway, I am now in a battle with them to try and get my TV home, a new TV issued or my money back. They would not honor the In-home Warranty, so I a have been out a living room TV for almost two months. They can't seem to fix this TV and have replaced the same part three times (I learned that they also use refurbished parts to fix our brand new under warranty TV's and electronics). This is not going to build any JVC love between us and them.

Anyway it is still not fixed and now they think it might be a cable instead. In other words they don't know what is wrong with it and unless I get a lawyer soon, I am going to get screwed on this deal for sure. In the meantime, and too late, I searched the Internet and found that there are people in the heart of big cities that are told the in-home warranty will not be honored, because, like us, it is too far too drive. I don't seem to be the only one having major problems with them.

So, I am not a happy customer. I would not recommend this TV or JVC to anyone and I will never purchase from them again.

  1. This TV is fabulous. Awesome picture, awesome sound. Looks great too!
LCD screen is a great improvement as lights/windows don't show up in it like a normal tv. Couldn't beat the price when I purchased with free shipping and no tax. Quite a bargain. [[ASIN:B000OCQ4PY JVC LT-42E488 42" 720p Flat Panel LCD HDTV]

  2. We purchased this JVC 42" to use as a bedroom television. Delivery was on time and the product arrived with no damage. Initial power on showed no dead pixels or any obvious problems. Black levels are not as good as my new Samsung but black levels were certainly acceptable. I did notice some "ghosting" on the sides during a completely black transition (e.g. during a break from a commercial or dead air time). However, the ghosting was not apparent during normal television viewing. Sound quality is good and has plenty of volume for noisy areas. The unit takes about 10-15 seconds to power up when initially turned on, which is normal. This JVC delivers better picture quality on standard definition television programming but since it is 720p, it obviously cannot compare to some of the newer 1080p sets when viewing true HD content.
Overall, if you're looking for a reasonably priced flat panel as a second unit, this is a good buy. I shopped the $600-$1400 price range and at $799, this was a good buy.

  3. This 42" LCD HD TV seems to be a great product, although I really cant tell about the picture clearity right now as I dont have HD, just digital satalite. But is easy to operate, looks great and has a bright picture.

  4. We had this TV for 5 months. The best feature was the USB reader that we could use to see pictures without hooking up the camera. However, the USB reader was broken in the 2nd week. We can't use it anymore. The picture quality is very good with DVD. We hook up the TV to cable and have the basic HD channels. The picture quality on the HD channels are good, but not excellent. We can see the dots on the screen. We were comparing the JVC with the Toshiba Regza. The Toshiba had better picture quality, better contrast. The only thing I didn't like about the Toshiba is the shiny frame. And JVC has matt finish. This set also doesn't have a Contrast selection. Overall JVC is a good TV since JVC is a part of Panasonic.

  1. I just wanted to say that this has an AWESOME Picture! I took the advice of my friend who is the General Manager at a local Big Screen Retailer and bought this yesterday. I also bought a 37" Panny Plasma 2 yrs ago, from him, and this picture Blows the plasma away! Of course you have to be on a High Def. channel... but when you are.. its amazing! I watched the Rose Bowl Parade this am from start to finish. I have never watched a parade b4 in my life.. but it was like I was there! Now I have a really good dvd player.. but the pic is not all that even tho its upscaled. The way to go would be the Blue-Ray when they drop mid summer in price. Thats gonna give you the real 1080p resolution picture that these tv's want. Till then I am stuck watching anything in Hi-Def and I actually mean ANYTHING. Its just simply beautiful! Enjoy!

  2. I bought this set in Jan of 2007. It was in a showroom next to a Sony XBR3. Both had excellent PQ, but the MITS was a grand less. Having had the set for more than a year, I must say that I haven't had so much as a single problem with it. The picture both SD and HD (through DISH network) has been outstanding as well as over the air(I get Chicago stations)signals in HD. I actually went back and looked at the next years model(the 52244) and didn't like the PQ as well as the 231 series. If you can stil pick up this set-jump!

  1. Excellent product. No complains. Strongly recommend.
Eagle shipping is also very good. They delivered the TV and took away all packaging boxes.

  2. TV: Since this TV replaced a Sony XBR with 1080i resolution, the picture quality we see is only slightly better. Also, I have not noticed the clouding problem that many other buyers of other S series models had problem with.

    Good:
    - very good HD pictures
    - color & brightness when using HDMI input
    - sound quality is much better, could be due to HDMI

    Bad:
    - the response (switching between inputs, volume change) is way too slow, even compared to a much cheaper brand LCD we have.
    - there is no way to skip the coax cable input which we don't use.
    - no picture in picture (I knew this before buying)

    Delivery: very bad experience
The delivery was late and it cannot be considered "white glove" because all the delivery guys offered to do is to hook up the TV at the nearest outlet in my living room to prove that it was not dead. Secondly, it took over a week (half dozen email/calls) to get Amazon to agree to their policy (that because of the late delivery, return shipping should be paid by Amazon), which also meant that I could not refuse the shipment and ultimately hooked it up while getting this resolved. Oh yes, they offered a $15 coupon and are yet to respond to my final comments on this experience after four days.

  3. I live in a rural area, and could not get any store to deliver a television to me. Even delivery companies would not deliver a television in particular. Amazon came through with shining colors. The delivery was prompt - understand that the delivery company will CALL by telephone for an appointment. I waited for an email for longer than I had to prior to checking my phone messages, whereupon I found the Television waiting to be delivered. The service was very good, if not "white glove." The delivery man offered to help me take the television inside, which was nice - but he's certainly wasn't familiar with the television set, and so I didn't want him to hook it up.

The television arrived in in perfect shape, and performs spectacularly.

    Why this set is special:

    - Picture quality is superior coming from this television's image processing software.

    - Exterior of the television is matte black, not reflective lacquer like Samsung and Sharp. That reflection is distracting from the picture.

Looking at this sony as well as a Sharp and Samsung that had better specs on paper (higher resolution), this television's picture quality was superior. The Sony has better image processing software/hardware built in so that it "cleans up" standard input signals AND cleans up compressed mpeg image quality (from less-than-perfect DVD's). That really made the difference in my purchasing decision. The numbers alone don't tell the whole story. When researching HD Televisions, be sure you check the type of input and ensure that the settings on the television are calibrated to that input. This is where Sony really excels.

Another commenter mentioned that standard DVD's looked better after purchasing an "upconverting" DVD player. This is very key. The one that I have found to be close to perfect is made by Oppo :
OPPO DV-970HD Up-Converting Universal DVD Player

The connection by HDMI is also key. A lovely signal transmitting through a mediocre line is wasted.

Still, as with any HD television, the connection between the two machines must be made carefully. When I changed the output of the DVD player from 480p (standard DVD) to 720p, the image quality improved RADICALLY. - Then I looked to ensure that "noise filtering" was off (default setting is "low" ) - and once turned off (no need to filter a gorgeous signal)... the picture is flawless - well as close to that as I need. The good news is that one can save settings for a particular input. So that once you set your settings for the DVD player, you aren't required to adjust them again. Though, DVD's vary and changing settings accordingly may do some good.

The control menus are easy to navigate, and after a few minutes of figuring, one will be very comfortable trying this setting or that.

Overall, the television and the delivery were both superlative.

    I couldn't be happier.

  4. This was by far the BEST Picture on the Showroom Floor and got it for $1200 clearance at BestBuy! When I got home I thought that the Picture would suffer as I only have a Standard Antenna to pick up local Stations. However, I was amazed at the picture and brought in my Nieghbor whom works for verizon on the Fiber Optics line. he stated that there is no better image engine then what the Sony Bravia Creates.
    -
Summary: BEST LCD TV for the Money! Hands Down.

  5. We love this TV. I bought a Sony rear projection 60" for my family room about 4 years ago and have never regretted it. So naturally when it came time to buy a big one for the bedroom, we upgraded in technology and stuck with Sony. When you're spending this much on a TV, pay a little more for the best. I research all my high ticket purchases so I expected the quality to be as good as it is. We don't have it hooked up to surround side or an HD box and you'd never know it. The picture is crystal clear. We've had the tv for about a year and no complaints yet. We feel like we're at the movies when we lay in bed.

It is also very light and thin. I am a 125 pound woman and I can lift it myself. Perfect if you have the wall space but don't want to take up too much room.

  1. Nice TV for the money. The only complaint is the lag when switching channels. It is very slow to produce a picture on the new channel. The tuner automatically picked up HD over the air channels which is great. It also picked up many digital audio only channels. So far we are pleased, no complaints.

  2. I purchased this tv about a year ago at best buy. It still amazes me. The picture is outstanding, and this is just on regular cable not HD. Although with the built in tuner I receive about 10 digital channels, and 4-5 of those being HD. You almost hate to go back to regular tv, once you've watched the HD channels. Just outstanding picture quality. My sis has a samsung flat panel and this is way better in my opinion. Hers is very grainy, and any black color shows up as green. The picture on the Aquos is very smooth, but still vivid, and the black is as rich as you're going to get on a LCD. (Generally LCD's have trouble showing black, plasmas are better...however plasmas have problems with red so I'm told...and they're way more expensive.) There's also no glare from light sources on the screen...whether sunlight or lamps.

The sound is great especially if you're using this in a medium to small room. Has built in surround, which is nice since I'm using it in my bedroom.

The tv itself is also very pleasing to the eye, the mirrored black finish is superb, and is an attention grabber.

The one negative as some have said is the lag between channels. However, I consider this a rather small downside for all you get, and I generally know what channels I want to watch so it didnt affect my rating.

I'm not partial to any company, I go with whatever suits my interest and looks the best. I would advise doing the same, even if you plan on purchasing a tv from here. Go to the stores and check them out. Hope this helped somehwhat.

  3. I got this TV after my parents were moving and were going to to upgrade to a larger tv. I have had no problems for the 6 months that I have had it in my possession. It does look sleek and modern and fits well in my house. The sound is great, the picture is high quality, and it is the perfect size for me. I don't have it hooked up to HD cable and I have it hooked just to cable right now. The picture is still high quality. I would highly recommend this model.

  4. The TV has a sleek look and is easy to use and set up. The picture quality is good as well. However, nine months after I bought this (and with only seven months of use), the picture went out. Sharp's customer service directed me to the nearest authorized contracted service center (70 miles away).
After a look by the service center, Sharp offered me a replacement that was a rebuilt unit. Four months after I received the rebuilt unit, the picture died. When I called Sharp customer service back, their answer was, "Sorry, but your 1 year warranty has expired." To get the rebuilt unit fixed, I would have to pay for repairs myself.
Very disappoininting since the rebuilt unit was less than five months old. I chose to purchase a new LCD from another manufacturer and skip the Sharp brand.
From the looks of other reviewers, my TV might be the exception to quality, but that exception has cost me a lot of money.

  5. We decided to purchase our first LCD television after reading reviews and doing research. The Sharp Aquos 26 inch LCD TV seemed promising and offered many excellent features.

Initially, the picture was great and much sharper than the picture on our Mitsubishi CRT (which lasted for over 10 years). Then, within a few weeks after the one year warranty period, the picture soured. A vertical blue/green line appeared shortly after the television was turned on (every time it was used) and then disappeared after 30 to 45 minutes. I wrote to Sharp, since this problem was not going away. They were unhelpful, noting that resetting the television should help, and referring me to a local repair shop for service (that I would have to pay for).

We decided to wait, given the likely high cost for repairs. Unfortunately, the blue/green line continues to appear, every time the television is turned on (and stays on for at least 45 minutes). And, a second blue/green vertical line has appeared, closer to the right side of the screen. This second line lasts for a shorter period of time, but leaves me feeling certain that this expensive LCD television will continue to deteriorate, even though it is only 1 1/2 years old. My next LCD television (likely to be bought within another year) will definitely not be from Sharp.

5 comments about Sony Bravia KLV-S26A10 26-Inch LCD HD-Ready Flat Panel Television.
  1. I purchased and have watched the KLVS26A10 for 6 months and have adjusted and modified all I can and it simply is not a good product. It is inconceivable that Sony would put out a bad product like this...there should be a recall of it. The facts: The picture is not good for live/recorded shots of people...there is little definition or depth of facial characteristics. Every person appears like they have pancake make-up--like the image has been air-brushed of all definition. For me, these situations make up 50% of what I look at. I was so trusting of Sony, that I assumed I was at fault and either had the wrong cables, cable connections or couldn't tune it properly. All the best cables and fine tuning the color/image/light balance is of no avail. I was taken by the Sony name and by Crutchfield's claim...and I quote from their catalog "...Bravia is...a guarantee from Sony that you'll enjoy years of supurb picture quality...." Enough said

  2. very good tv, easy to connect with the computer and good for games, ideal for small rooms.

  3. We just bought this TV and are quite impressed. Picture clarity and color are absolutely wonderful, especially for an LCD. Even old video tapes take on a whole new life when viewed with this television. It's also very good looking itself. I really like the light sensor that detects ambient light and adjusts picture brightness. We have this TV set up next to a large, south facing picture window and the picture is remarkably clear and not washed out even on the brightest sunny days.

  4. I have owned the 26" Bravia for about a year and the only con is the price. I paid $1000 for it. The picture is high quality and the features are great. I'm only disappointed that had I looked around a little more I could have got a bigger TV for less, though I probably would have sacrificed some quality. I am sorry for those who have written such negative reviews, the only thing I can think is that they did not hook it up right or they got a faulty product, because I know mine works wonderfully and I would recommend it to anyone who is willing to pay a little extra for high quality.

  5. I had never purchased such an expensive TV as the KLVS26A10 in my life, but I thought by buying the SONY brand I would be paying for and getting quality. In two years, the picture became so dark that it was difficult to view. I called tech support, but nothing would fix it. I called customer relations and got nowhere. The authorized service dealer was in another city, close to an hour away. I decided it wasn't worth the hassle of driving that far, leaving the set for an estimate, and driving back to pick it up, so I gave the set away. No use throwing good money after bad. I wrote a letter to SONY describing my frustration and displeasure. I received a phone call about my letter from SONY national customer relations. The rep wanted to know with whom I spoke. I told him I would look for my notes. I spent 20 minutes looking, called him back with the names, and discovered he knew all along who they were--they were in my record (his file) the whole time. He even told me the date and corrected one of the names. If I was upset before all this, I was really upset after this charade. I asked to speak to a supervisor, left a message, but never heard back. I called Public Relations, left a message, but never heard back. That was about a week ago. I would not recommend this brand of television to anyone. Buyer beware.
