  1. I bought my TV and was very pleased with it until this week when the picture stopped working after owning it for only 18 months. The sound will come through, but there is no image. The product comes with a 1 year warranty, and I didn't buy an extended warranty. However, I did expect for the TV to work for more than 18 months.

Additionally, in looking through my paperwork, I realized why the price was better from Amazon than from local electronics stores. The TV is from Canada and not from the US.

Needless to say, I am disappointed in the performance of my Samsung TV.

  2. We were very happy with this TV's design, features and performance. However the screen has stopped working after 17 months' use. Unfortunately not up to our expectations for a Samsung.

  3. We purchased this tv 15 months ago. My husband fell in love with it until 3 weeks ago. Tv picture went out but the sound was still there. We didnt purchase the extended warrenty. We contacted samsung and they really dont care. Finally we had a service rep come out for 200.00 but he only charged us 100.00. He told us that our T con board was broke and it would be 1200.00 dollars to repair. He then continued to tell us that that they didn't make the t con board for this TV anymore, so basically we should get a new tv or something comparable from samsung. Samsung has given us the run around. I am very disgusted with there service. I will never buy a samsung again. Oh and by the way we threatend to go to our tv channels for help and report samsung and tuesday they are coming to repair our tv. Oh they found the part.

  4. I went to many local stores to learn which LCD's were considered the "best". Samsung was in the top three. Have had it less than a year and half and motherboard is blown. No picture, just sound. Motherboard has taken 5 weeks so far to come in (still not here). Seems like parts are hard to come by.

  5. I bought this TV 2 years ago from another store (their initials are BB) and was very happy with the picture and sound. Last week I had to take the TV off my wall to hook up another HDMI for my Blu-Ray player. When I turned the TV back on the screen was cracked and the picture was out. I have a 4 year extended warranty with "BB," but they told me that the warranty doesn't cover cracked screens. I now have a $2200 paperweight.

Bottom line: The TV has a great picture but is obviously very fragile. DO NOT get an extended warranty from BB. This and probably most any other "extended" warranty will only cover very technical problems, not easily cracked screens.

  1. I purchased this TV for my basement wall, to watch the Nascar races and so far so good, excellent TV. It is light and easy to handle, we popped out the bottom stoppers on the stand, removed the stand and with two screws in the wall it went up as easy as hanging a picture. The brightness did need adjusting but the picture comes in fine, maybe the picture depends on if you have cable or a dish. We have a dish and I have no problem at all, the remote is a little small and my husband kept hitting the wrong button to begin with but once you get used to it we both agreed- excellent choice *****

  2. Note: contradicting Amazon's title, this is NOT a TV. It is a monitor with a built-in TV tuner (lots of differences). Thus the low price.

I bought this item from J&R Music via Amazon.com. I returned it becuase the volume went from off to fairly loud with no "in-between" as I adjusted the volume up from zero. Note that I bought this to use as a TV, not a monitor.

Well, They sent me another and it had the exact same issue. Also, not being a TV, this has no Closed-caption feature or other "taken for granted" TV features you would get in an actual television. SVA and J&R Music both emphasized this, though I see Amazon still has not changed it (I notified Amazon.com in January, 2005).

  3. for the price, this lcd is not bad at all. as others have said, the picture tends to be a bit dark. but as i found for myself, you have to set the angle of the screen to allow for best viewing. then the picture is just fine. the remote is a bit small. and the volume controlles are not that easy to deal with. but i keep the mute set to "ON", and use the audio from my surround system anyway. all and all, i can't complaine. it's well worth the price paid.

  4. This LCD works great for every day computer functions as a monitor, but not as a TV. The problem is when you want to watch TV, you better be ready to handle the fuzzy picture. I've have it mounted on the wall in my computer room as a TV, but used a VCR to tune the cable channels, because it's TV tuner is terrible. The picture from the VCR's RCA plugs is ten times better than cable TV feed into the coax, but it is still fuzzy. I guess since it has such a high res native mode, the regular TV's low resolution can't be produced cleanly. For the price, you can't complain too much. I have been using it for 2 years, so I can't say I didn't get my money's worth.

It does have it's benefits, since I needed a second monitor to fix computers at home, it saves plenty of space hanging on the wall by two screws. No need to spend $50 on a VESA wall mount, when two drywall screws will do.

After two years, I've decided this Xmas I'm giving it to my mother as an upgrade to her 15" monitor on her computer at home, and I'm not even telling her it is a TV.

  5. I have this LCD/TV for slightly over 1 year (1 yr 4 mth) and has been using it as a TV. And right around the time waranty is about to expire, we start seeing what is supposed to be black color is replaced by green. Other colors are displaying properly. This problem would come and go: sometimes going to "Fine Tune" set it all the way down and bring it back up would fix the problem for 10 minutes before it comes back again.

Since it doesn't happen consistently, I made the mistake of not sending it back to the vendor. Now the warranty expired, and I am stuck with a "green" TV.

Watch out for color problem on this TV.

  1. I bought this TV last February. For those of you who don't want to read this review in its entirety...just DON'T THROW AWAY THE BOX! Now where was I, oh yeah, like those who reviewed the unit earlier I too was very impressed with its initial performance. I foolishly threw away the box within a couple of weeks. I mean LCD TV is a proven technology right? Not a good idea. After about 8 months the picture started turning green. First intermittently and then it would remain green all the time. It was like all of the darker parts of the picture were being replaced by a dark green. The picture also got grainy like a computer monitor switched to 256 colors. I contacted Norcent customer service. I had to be very proactive and had to keep pinging them to keep them "responsive". In order to obtain warranty service the unit had to be shipped back to CA (I live in MD) at my expense and if damaged in route, Norcent will refuse to accept it. Many of the shippers I queried were either ridiculously high or not willing to take on the risk at all. Fortunately I was able to find a reputable shipper that would ship the unit for only $100 (paid extra to get the insurance coverage and special care) and fortunately it didn't get damaged in route. The unit was returned to me well within their guaranteed 4-week response time. The original warranty expired last month and there is no warranty on repairs. So-far-so-good after three weeks. Picture quality is now excellent. Hopefully this was just a glitch that surfaced early in the production run and is now resolved...

  2. To make a long story short, this is a BAD tv.had to ship back to the factory for repair at my expense. All i know to do with it is to let my grandson play with it by taking it apart.Do not buy a norcent product.

  3. You will be sorry if you buy this TV. We loved it at first-great deal, great picture. One month out of warrantee the picture started getting jumbled. It happened once in a while. It is now getting progressively worse. Last night the picture went out 3 times in 3 hours. We approached Norcent right away when the problem started. They said they could not (and would not) help us since it was out of warrantee. They do not have any authorized repair centers either.
There is obviously something wrong with this product since there are so many complaints online. Norcent does not support their products and I will never buy from them again.
If anyone found a solution to this issue please post it!!

  4. A month after my warranty expired - i got the jumbled screen syndrome as well. Not sure whether to fix it or just buy a new "brand" name TV at this stage.

  5. Worked fine for a while then 2 months out of warranty it went haywire with green lines like other people have mentioned. It is unwatchable. I just brought it to the dump today. Do yourself a favor. Buy a name brand.

  1. I've owned this TV monitor for six months now, and I am delighted with my purchase. I had been searching for a flat-screen TV that was reasonably-priced and had a good, sharp picture. I compared this TV in a store to several others in its price range. This was the clear winner. It has a beautiful picture and great sound. (I am pleased that my TV has no dead pixels, either.)

This is a monitor, not a TV, so you do need a cable box. I have a digital HD box through Adelphia cable. The HD channels on this TV are outstanding. The persons on screen might as well be standing in front of you. I have never tried to use this as a computer monitor, so I cannot speak to how it would work, but it is a wonderful TV. And, despite Westinghouse's reputation for having bad remotes, the remote control on this TV works well. It is very easy to switch from HDTV to regular TV.

All in all, I am delighted. My only regret is not having bought a larger Westinghouse TV -- but that would have meant paying much more!

  2. Just purchased & RETURNED this tv. We were thrilled when we took it out of the box..until we set it up. The sound is AWFUL. The sound waves from very low to extremely loud - so loud that it actually makes a popping noise. And, no it wasn't only when commercials came on - it is continuous. Unfortunately for us I did not do any sort of research before purchasing the tv. Now that I've put in a couple of searches on this tv, I see that I wasn't the only person who had issues with the sound. It seems to be the #1 complaint on this model. It is unfortunate because Westinghouse is a good name brand. We did return this set and purchase a slightly more expensive model that is not a Westinghouse. Hope this helped out.

  3. I just purchased this TV, and I am very pleased with it. I did not expect fancy features and surround-like sound, but a basic LCD TV that was inexpensive and expandable. I actually like the fact that it doesn't have a built-in HDTV tuner - that lets the price stay low (I will call up my cable company to upgrade to HDTV in a few days). Without HDTV, the picture quality isn't the best when you're close up, but with HDTV (as I saw in the store) it's just as great as the more expensive brands. The salesman told me how customers come back and complain about the picture quality, but this kind of TV is made to be used with HDTV (evident with the display model they had). The sound isn't bad - it's good enough for this price (for reviewers who complain about this - you get what you pay for, and if you want better sound quality, go for a more expensive model). My set has no dead pixels at all, and unlike what others said, the remote works fine. The menu can get a bit confusing to use, but it's manageable. The documentation is minimal, but you can probably find more info on it online. Overall, I am very happy for finding an LCD for such a low price (I went to J&R for it - great service, the set is priced at $799.99 in store and $699.99 on their site, they were happy to give it to me for the online price). I recommend it for people who really want an LCD but can't afford one over $1,000. I'm looking forward to getting HDTV, and enjoying years with this LCD TV.

  1. Bought one of these 2 days after Thanksgiving and had a good experience with it for a month. Two days after Christmas I heard a noise like a pebble striking a windshield. I turned from the kitchen to see the picture closing as if a movie were fading to black, only it wasn't a movie. The plasma display had cracked. The actual exterior screen is intact but the display beneath it has been compromised. Philips says that it isn't covered by them - that I must have "done something to it". I'd also like to echo the sentiments of many other reviews on Amazon and elsewhere - their customer service is absolutely awful. Unfortunately I am unable to give this item a zero stars rating.
