  1. We've had the Aquos TV for a few weeks at this date and are very happy with the picture quality for standard DirecTV, DVD, and PC viewing. We have not upgraded to an HD feed yet, but we were honestly surprised by the improved picture of standard DirecTV versus our previous television (standard CRT).

    Pluses:

    1) We have found the A/V box design to be great for hiding all the input cables.
    2) Sharp offers a couple of different stretch modes to choose from.
    3) There are 6 input sources and ability to assign custom names to each.
    4) The unit remembers the volume, stretch, and picture settings for each input source. Sounds like a small thing but it is really appreciated by us.
    5) The Sharp menus and remote are nicely designed.
    6) Speakers sound good for listening to regular content.
    7) TV outputs for video capture.
    8) Aesthetically pleasing.
    9) Vivid pictures!
    10) The stand allows the screen to swivel and pivot for optimum positioning. The degrees of rotational are small but effective.
    11) Works very well for PC viewing.
    12) Placement of the control buttons on top of the panel work nice for us.

    Minuses:

    1) Only one S-Video input and it is on the front of the A/V box. Won't be an issue after we upgrade our DirecTV receiver but it seems like an oversight not to include one s-Video input on the back of the A/V box.
    2) 1080p support is questionable. This may be an issue in the future as true 1080 becomes widely available. Perhaps the A/V box can be upgraded.
    3) Expensive. We originally wanted a 37" TV but could not justify the price. However, we were so pleased with all the features mentioned above that we went with the smaller 32" versus other less expensive products.
    4) We are not using all input sources, it would be nice if we could disable the unused inputs so they would not appear in the menu.
    5) Faint fan noise in the A/V box (this is probably a nit, it's only detectable if TV is muted).

Thanks to all the previous reviewers on this product and other products. The customer feedback really helped us make and informed decision. It can get confusing with all the different display technologies available. Also, some products have known defects that you will only learn about from internet research.

  2. I ordered this TV from amazon, and got delivered promptly as per the delivery estimate provided. Entire process is very pleasent and smooth.
Setup is easy, but my DVD player was not able to send digital signals, so I bought LG Electronics HD Receiver/Hi-Format DVD Player (LST3510A), which delivered 720p signal from my DVD, resulted in really sharp picture. I just connected with component video output.

Overall I'm pleased with my purchase.

  3. I purchased my system a few months ago and I am very pleased with it. I love how there is a separate unit to house all the cables. I think it is a lot smarter to buy this model as opposed to the one with the HDTV tuner built in. This model is a lot cheaper and Comcast supplied me with a digital cable box with an HDTV tuner built in. I refuse to watch sports unless it is via HDTV. The clarity of this TV is very clean and crisp. I highly recommend it.

  4. This T.V automatically shuts down after 5 "errors"..I got it from J&R Music and Computer (N.Y).. According to the service tech, this $3,600.00 T.V arrived broken. It has been in the repair shop longer than in my own home..........

  5. I bought a sharp lcd tv from j& r in new york last Jan, after a year and half, when powering on the tv, sometimes works, sometimes not. after unplug in, wait for a while and plug back, worked for a couple months. Send it to service center to checkup, was told that the lcd control board needs to be replaced. when request to get back the replaced lcd control board, was told that sharp does not give back the replaced board, it has to be shipped back, otherwise, you have to pay additional fee to get back the replaced board.. it's rather strange to hear such a lousy policy from any vendor..

But, if you do want to get a sharp, better get a long long warranty..

  1. We purchased the set in December 2007. Excellent picture and sound quality. By March, light colors appeared speckled and grainy. By June, after warming up for 30-45 minutes, the picture was completely distorted.
We called for service on September 29. The in-home tech arrived on November 7 with a replacement board. He tested the set in front of my wife, and it worked (while cool). Within an hour, my wife turned the TV back on.... no LCD at all. We called the service center and they told us the installed part was bad. On 12/5, the new part was available and installed. Same problem. I escalated the issue with Samsung, and they told me that the service provider had to order a power supply. In the meantime, no working TV since September.

  2. The neck of my Samsung LN-S4695D supplied TV stand broke after 8 months and the 75 pound TV came crashing to the floor. Others have reported the same problem, the neck is all plastic and cannot support the weight of the TV. I have to give their service 5 stars they replaced the TV with a brand new LN-T4661F which has a stronger neck and stand.

  3. The TV is very functional and looks amazing with Blue Ray and HD TV. Hook up a surround sound system and you are good to go!

  4. This TV has one of the highest quality pictures on the market. It makes my Blue Ray and Videogames look great. The game mode feature is also a definite plus.

  5. Got this TV awhile back and it is an outstanding TV for the price. The picture is crystal clear. Very good features for a TV in this price range. The sound really stands out with rich bass and enveloping surround effects. I have both an XBox 360 and a Playstation 3 running on full 1080p and they look incredible! Blu-Ray HD movies playing on the PS3 look amazing on this TV's 1080p resolution. With 2 HDMI ports I have the PS3 and a cable box, The 2 Component inputs connect the 360 and a DVD Recorder, S-Video input houses a Playstation 2, and there's still 2 coax antenna inputs left! This tv not only looks great but has the hardware to hold all of your electronics, making a perfect foundation for any home theater.
The only thing I don't care for is the high gloss black finish surrounding the screen. It reflects a lot of light but that's just a minor gripe.
Shipping was an issue. We paid for expedited shipping and it took a week to get here. I had to call the seller and they refunded the price of expedited and only charged me standard shipping. Very nice to work with. They corrected the issue without hesitation.
If you're looking for a TV that gives the most bang for your buck, this is it!

  1. I got this TV for Christmas this year and it's amazing. The picture is incredibly clear, and as the previous poster stated, the setup was extremely simple. Watching TV is an experience on this model. I love it.

  2. I bought the 37" version (LT37X887) but I believe my comments are totally relevant to the 40" version. The picture, as the other viewers point out, is superb! Sound is very good. It's New Year's day and we had a party New Year's Eve with 22 adults. Almost all commented on how crisp and detailed the picture looked in HD. This includes my son who went for the 50" Pioneer plasma and my neighbor who has the 37" plasma from Panasonic. My son can't believe it's an LCD, the picture being so crisp and clear. No apparrent problems with "black detail" or blurring with fast action scenes. On Christmas Eve, we had the burning yule log on the screen with just music playing. When my wife first saw it, she thought we had a fire in the living room.

Makes you wonder about all the discussion of Plasma versus LCD!

  3. LCD? Plasma? DLP? 1080p? After 4 months of driving myself crazy researching HDTVs, I'm happy to say I settled on the JVC 40x887. Reason #1: I've never had a problem with the numerous JVC products I've owned over the years. I cannot say enough about the beauty of this set, on or off! The SD picture is much better than I expected. The 770p HD picture is rich and punchy. I sit there in awe every time I'm in front of it:-)

Reason #2: Apparently, JVC doesn't market their line of televisions nearly as much as the other guys and the way I see it, that's more money to pour into quality. You will likely struggle to find this model on the floor but when you do, you'll see what I mean! The unit contains a Sammy panel, same one in the Sonys.

I decided to skip plasma and DLP because of flaws I deemed impossible to overcome. Burn-in, break-in periods, screen glare, changing $300 bulbs, black grass, rainbows, who needs that stuff!?! I passed on 1080p because you basically have to be a superfreak to tell the difference. I'll take the money I saved and plop it down on a new Oppo dvd player, thank you very much.

This HDTV can be had for several hundred less than comparable LCDs and I STRONGLY suggest giving it the time it deserves before pulling the trigger on your new LCD. One more thing not to be overlooked: JVC HDTVs have D.I.S.T. (Digital Image Scaling Technology)with GENESSA Picture Processing which make them one of the few to pass the 3/2 and deinterlacing tests...

  4. Pro: The picture & sound are great.

Con: when you change the channel in HD mode, you have to wait for that channel comes on before you can jump to the next one. For example: change channel 2 to 4, you have to wait for 4 comes before you can move to 5, 6 etc.

  5. I was first extremely attracted to the sexy, elegant and understated looks of this LCD TV but the rest seemed to have one important better feature... the higher contrast ratio. Until one day I saw it at Best Buy next to a super expensive LCD TV, famous brand name and they were both side by side playing the same program when I noticed blacks and grays looked exactly the same on both televisions. It seems JVC LCD tv's have an extra feature to boost blacks that is not accounted for only in the contrast ratio numbers. I WAS SOLD! After taking it home I only found a lot more to like about this tv. It has become my new computer monitor since, dvi to hdmi (computer to tv hdmi) yields an AMAZING picture... no you can't see any pixels not even if you get as close as possible, at least not with windows vista and GeForce 8, you even get the post (computer startup before logon and bios settings)! Another EXCELLENT feature I haven't seen on any other LCD TV of this size is the capability to pivot it side to side and having the circular design in the front it never seems out of square even if it's facing towards one side. The settings are endless and I'll stop here or I'll never finish. All I can say is you'll never regret this purchase!

  1. Bought this tv and what can I say, it works perfectly for everything I do with it. Playstation3 you ask?? The game RFOM looks absoloutly amazing on it and so does COD3, the sound is awesome to. Watching Blu-ray discs is a treat in its self as well. For the price I paid (896.00$) I definately did no wrong, could not be happier with my purchase..
