  1. This TV is fabulous. Awesome picture, awesome sound. Looks great too!
LCD screen is a great improvement as lights/windows don't show up in it like a normal tv. Couldn't beat the price when I purchased with free shipping and no tax. Quite a bargain. [[ASIN:B000OCQ4PY JVC LT-42E488 42" 720p Flat Panel LCD HDTV]

  2. We purchased this JVC 42" to use as a bedroom television. Delivery was on time and the product arrived with no damage. Initial power on showed no dead pixels or any obvious problems. Black levels are not as good as my new Samsung but black levels were certainly acceptable. I did notice some "ghosting" on the sides during a completely black transition (e.g. during a break from a commercial or dead air time). However, the ghosting was not apparent during normal television viewing. Sound quality is good and has plenty of volume for noisy areas. The unit takes about 10-15 seconds to power up when initially turned on, which is normal. This JVC delivers better picture quality on standard definition television programming but since it is 720p, it obviously cannot compare to some of the newer 1080p sets when viewing true HD content.
Overall, if you're looking for a reasonably priced flat panel as a second unit, this is a good buy. I shopped the $600-$1400 price range and at $799, this was a good buy.

  3. This 42" LCD HD TV seems to be a great product, although I really cant tell about the picture clearity right now as I dont have HD, just digital satalite. But is easy to operate, looks great and has a bright picture.

  4. We had this TV for 5 months. The best feature was the USB reader that we could use to see pictures without hooking up the camera. However, the USB reader was broken in the 2nd week. We can't use it anymore. The picture quality is very good with DVD. We hook up the TV to cable and have the basic HD channels. The picture quality on the HD channels are good, but not excellent. We can see the dots on the screen. We were comparing the JVC with the Toshiba Regza. The Toshiba had better picture quality, better contrast. The only thing I didn't like about the Toshiba is the shiny frame. And JVC has matt finish. This set also doesn't have a Contrast selection. Overall JVC is a good TV since JVC is a part of Panasonic.

  1. A buddy bought a new Olevia and told me about it. I'm a part time student at Jr College and work almost fulltime and on a tight budget. I shopped several brands and I wanted a big screen for football. I loved the Olevia and the price was in my budget. Wow! What a great picture. Fantastic detail.

  1. I am only going to say this thing is phenominal, you have to see it, to believe it! The HD picture will blow you away!

  2. I purchased this Toshiba because I wanted to upgrade my big-black-box of a 29 inch TV. I was going to wait until next Summer but circumstances prevailed and I am very happy with this set. The picture is visually as big as the 29 inch television. It took two men to lift the old TV and one hand to lift this TV. Not to mention it's only about four inches thick. A sixteen inch wide by twelve inch deep shelf holds it quite nicely.
The image is excellent for its size, and the color rendition and detail are excellent for the average size room. It's not a hard TV to get used to using (it's HDMI - on a HD Digital cable box) and puts out a magnificent picture. The HD cable feeds show detail and color that is excellent. Ben Hur was on regular cable today and the color rendition was better than any version I ever watched.
My DVD is on an "S" connector but I watched Akira Kurasawa's RAN (CHAOS) the other day and saw details that astounded me. The reds are vivid and the yellows blinding. On C-Span's Washington Journal you can see the colors of the capital building as the sun rises.
The sound is excellent right out of the TV itself. You can hear "echos" and "reverbs" when the source is good stereo. In about 6 months I will add amplifier and five channel sound speakers. I am very satisfied with this purchase. My Mother had to spend a month at my house after heart surgery and she loved watching the football games on this TV. She even joked about taking it home with her and she is NOT a TV person.

    Things you should know:
    1) the HDMI cable is 1/2 inch thick, sticks out the bottom, requires an adapter for most cable boxes, and obstructs the back panel that is supposed to hide the cables. Nothing will hide that cables.
    2) the "surge protector/filter" is not cheap - I paid $199 for the one I use. But considering it's protecting a $1500 TV, it's worth it. My house has lousy electric and in four years surges have blown two protectors. Also HDTV needs a filter.
    3) Buy good audio cables, I can hear how cheap my older audio cables are when I use the DVD and CD player - especially on orchestral and symphonic music. You don't hear the problems with broadway musicals or pop stuff on DVD and CD, but symphony orchestras and fine movie soundtracks need better cables. I have Digital Music on my cable, too. The all Opera channel is a delight to listen to now.
    4) You need a digital satelite or digital cable HD feed - that requires special boxes and a service call.

  3. First of all of course the quality of the device; It's well built, has pretty much all the inputs you need and has a decent cable management system in the back (you'll need it). Image quality is good but not amazing when in standard resolution, HD quality however is very impressive (hooked up with an HDMI cable). DVD quality when played off a component DVD player is outstanding.

Audio quality of the TV is good, nice and loud with plenty of settings possible.

Switching between inputs leaves a little to be desired, it takes around 2-3 seconds for it to pick up on the input.

    The bad:

I wanted to hang it on a wall, the specs do not mention the VESA mounts it has on the back, the manaual doesn't mention it either. Nor does the manual mention how to dismantle the stand, something you need to do in order to mount it.

The PC interface is fairly useless as it won't let you go above 1024*768, a real shame when you have a 1300*768 panel in front of you.

The TV doesn't come with ANY cables (not even an antenna coax cable) so expect to invest another $200 in decent cables.

Pricing is also an issue, after purchasing this TV the price dropped almost $300 and Amazon wouldn't issue a refund, so keep your eye on the price and/or reseller.

Despite it's few quirks it's certainly an appealing TV and one of the cheaper A name brands in this price class, we researched several non A name brands (like Syntax Olevia) but they don't com e close to the quality of this TV.

  4. ...I bought this LCD TV back in January so I have had several months to determine how much I like it. Bottom line, I love it. We use it in our master bedroom in an armoire and the picture and sound are fantastic. I ran our HD DVR box to the TV using an HDMI cable (pricey but worth it) and the progressive scan DVD player using one set of the component inputs. This is my second Toshiba and I am a huge fan of their TV's.

  1. I have this television(FA2B-32072)and I love it! The model I have has two HDMI inputs!I've only had it for a few days but so far I'm very impressed. The set looks and performs just as well as some of the other established brands. It's far less expensive than the so called "brand names". I'm no expert in technology or in HDTV sets but this one is just as good as those that I've seen selling for twice the price! It has a fantastic picture and the sound is very good, even without a home theater. I have it connected to my digital cable box and the picture just blows me away! The colors are very bright and vivid. I can see details that I never saw on my 32" Sanyo CRT. This is my first plunge into the world of HDTV sets. I've been researching and comparing brands since before Christmas. I was a little leary of buying this particular set because I'm not familar with the company. I finally got tired of reseaching/waiting and took the plunge. I figured if it didn't work out I could return the television. I'm glad I took the chance on Digital Lifestyles. The television has surpassed all my expectations so far! It's very sleek looking. I love the gloss finish. It's light weight. That's a nice change from my heavy Sanyo.I can move this set easily from room to room in my home without the strain I experienced when trying to move my old set. Those CRTS weigh a ton. Digital Lifestyles telephone customer support has been wonderfully helpful. Keep in mind when you call with questions/help that the company is in on Pacific time. This may be a relatively new and unknown company but if this television set is any indication they should be around for some time to come. If you're in the market for a new HDTV set I would strongly recommend giving the Digital Lifestyles set a try. If you're set on a well known "brand name" then this television isn't the right one for you. Keep in mind though that every company was a new company at some point in time. They all had to start somewhere. In my opinion Digital Lifestyles is off to a very good start.
*********P.S. Just a follow up to the reviewer who isn't able to pick up HD broadcasts with 'regular' cable. Digital&HD are not the same thing. If one wants to pick up HD broadcasts there are two options. (1). One must have a subscription to cable/satellite HD service. (2).One must have a television that is capable of picking up OTA HD signals. As I said I'm no expert in the field but from those that I've spoken with and all the research I've done the only television sets that can pick up OTA HD signals(the free HD signals) are those with the QAM tuner. This television doesn't have the QAM. It only has the ATSC/NTSC tuner which btw is stated in the product description. People please pay careful attention when shopping and know what it is you need/want from a set before purchasing. The whole HD& Digital thing is confusing. It's baffled me too lol.

  2. First off, I have to agree with the others here who have stated that there is something a little suspicious about Mr. Anderson's five star review; especially considering that I have seen this same review turn up verbatim on other web sites that talk about the product. Second, while this is a good TV, it is not a perfect TV, which is what a five-star review suggests. I'll start with the things that I have found to be the biggest drawbacks: First, you probably won't find a code for it in your universal remote, which means you will always need to keep the remote handy. Second (and more annoying to me), the aspect ratio remains constant across all inputs. This means that if you are watching HDTV with the wide setting (or however your service sets that up), and you switch to your DVD, the aspect ratio will also be wide. If you switch to zoom here, you will need to switch back to wide when you go back to the TV signal. The TV has several inputs, but only one HDMI (the previous reviewer states that he has two HDMI, but I don't). The aspect ratios for the TV are: Normal, Panoramic, Wide, Zoom and Zoom 2. Zoom 2 is a particularly useful if you watch DVDs with subtitles that appear outside of the letterbox. The picture quality is good, with no glaring defects, edge effects, or hot spots. However, you will probably want to tweak the settings as they are definitely on the "hot" side (a fairly typical problem with new TVs actually). Unlike my previous HDTV, I do not notice any image lag with this set. As with most HDTVs, standard def does not look that great with this set, although at 32" it is not too bad.

I have not needed servicing, so I can't speak to the quality of their service department. Digital Lifestyles TVs are made by Corion for Digital Lifestyles. Digital Lifestyles Group Inc. is a separate company that has a somewhat less than stellar profile on the Internet. Corion is better known for providing LCD displays to others, which probably is a good thing.

On the balance, and in spite of its minor shortcomings, I am happy with this set, and would recommend it to anyone looking for an inexpensive entry into the world of HDTV.

  1. I got this TV for Christmas this year and it's amazing. The picture is incredibly clear, and as the previous poster stated, the setup was extremely simple. Watching TV is an experience on this model. I love it.

  2. I bought the 37" version (LT37X887) but I believe my comments are totally relevant to the 40" version. The picture, as the other viewers point out, is superb! Sound is very good. It's New Year's day and we had a party New Year's Eve with 22 adults. Almost all commented on how crisp and detailed the picture looked in HD. This includes my son who went for the 50" Pioneer plasma and my neighbor who has the 37" plasma from Panasonic. My son can't believe it's an LCD, the picture being so crisp and clear. No apparrent problems with "black detail" or blurring with fast action scenes. On Christmas Eve, we had the burning yule log on the screen with just music playing. When my wife first saw it, she thought we had a fire in the living room.

Makes you wonder about all the discussion of Plasma versus LCD!

  3. LCD? Plasma? DLP? 1080p? After 4 months of driving myself crazy researching HDTVs, I'm happy to say I settled on the JVC 40x887. Reason #1: I've never had a problem with the numerous JVC products I've owned over the years. I cannot say enough about the beauty of this set, on or off! The SD picture is much better than I expected. The 770p HD picture is rich and punchy. I sit there in awe every time I'm in front of it:-)

Reason #2: Apparently, JVC doesn't market their line of televisions nearly as much as the other guys and the way I see it, that's more money to pour into quality. You will likely struggle to find this model on the floor but when you do, you'll see what I mean! The unit contains a Sammy panel, same one in the Sonys.

I decided to skip plasma and DLP because of flaws I deemed impossible to overcome. Burn-in, break-in periods, screen glare, changing $300 bulbs, black grass, rainbows, who needs that stuff!?! I passed on 1080p because you basically have to be a superfreak to tell the difference. I'll take the money I saved and plop it down on a new Oppo dvd player, thank you very much.

This HDTV can be had for several hundred less than comparable LCDs and I STRONGLY suggest giving it the time it deserves before pulling the trigger on your new LCD. One more thing not to be overlooked: JVC HDTVs have D.I.S.T. (Digital Image Scaling Technology)with GENESSA Picture Processing which make them one of the few to pass the 3/2 and deinterlacing tests...

  4. Pro: The picture & sound are great.

Con: when you change the channel in HD mode, you have to wait for that channel comes on before you can jump to the next one. For example: change channel 2 to 4, you have to wait for 4 comes before you can move to 5, 6 etc.

  5. I was first extremely attracted to the sexy, elegant and understated looks of this LCD TV but the rest seemed to have one important better feature... the higher contrast ratio. Until one day I saw it at Best Buy next to a super expensive LCD TV, famous brand name and they were both side by side playing the same program when I noticed blacks and grays looked exactly the same on both televisions. It seems JVC LCD tv's have an extra feature to boost blacks that is not accounted for only in the contrast ratio numbers. I WAS SOLD! After taking it home I only found a lot more to like about this tv. It has become my new computer monitor since, dvi to hdmi (computer to tv hdmi) yields an AMAZING picture... no you can't see any pixels not even if you get as close as possible, at least not with windows vista and GeForce 8, you even get the post (computer startup before logon and bios settings)! Another EXCELLENT feature I haven't seen on any other LCD TV of this size is the capability to pivot it side to side and having the circular design in the front it never seems out of square even if it's facing towards one side. The settings are endless and I'll stop here or I'll never finish. All I can say is you'll never regret this purchase!
