- I knew what I wanted when I went shopping for my first flat-panel display. I play alot of video games and watch alot of shows, both on disc and on television. So, I needed a display that worked well for all my requirements. I settled on LCD, and my space dictated I look at a 42" set. My choices had narrowed to two: the Toshiba (also 1080p)and the Westinghouse. Both displays were showing hockey from a set-top HD box, via component cables. Luckily, they were also side-by-side. Needless to say, my eyes were sold on the Westinghouse. Perhaps it is in the eye of the beholder, but the colours were much more vivid on the Westinghouse.
In any case, I now have the following setup:
a) HD set-top cable box (via HDMI)
b) XBox 360 (through VGA)...for those with non-Elite 360s that do not have HDMI ports, a VGA connection is the only way you will get 1080p resolution.
c) HD-DVD Player (XBOX 360 add-on)
d) Nintendo Wii (through Component cables)
SD programs and nintendo Wii games look plain (because 480p on a HDTV will and the Wii's graphics are pretty crappy). Channels like HDNET, Discovery HD, Nat'l Geographic....just look FANTASTIC. I'll watch water drop off a leaf in 1080i on this TV!! HD-DVD movies (and I would guess the Blu-Ray ones as well) are even better!! Chronicles of Riddick is a great one to showcase this TV's capabilities.
As for games, Gears of War never looked so good! Same for Halo 3 and Devil May Cry 3.
If you're just getting your first flat-panel, this is surely one to consider, as it won't set you back a fortune, and you will be ready when programs start coming out in 1080p resolution.
- I purchased a Westinghouse TV and within 4 months the TV was broken. At that point I called customer support and they were NOT willing to stand behind thier product. I asked if they found it reasonable for a TV go out in 4 months, all they said was that they could not help me.
- Within the first week of receiving the product, the left side of the screen created a black shadow. Upon calling customer support, their response was to reset the default settings. Doing so did not fix the problem. If I turn the TV set off for a few minutes and then turn it on again, the picture will display as expected. The screen continues to create a black shadow at unsuspecting intervals. I have not received satisfactory support from customer service. I feel the TV should be replaced with a new one.
- I am surprised by the reviews of others as their reviews aren't about this particular TV, but about a Digital Picture frame and one even left negative reviews about other TVs he didnt even own. I have this TV and I think it is a very well made TV. Don't pay more than you have to for a TV. All these manufacturers buy their LCDs from the same place. So all you are doing is paying for the marketing. I work in the Computer hardware industry and most, if not all companies buy OEM to cut costs. Don't think because you bought a Samsung or Sony that it is any better than the others.
- I bought this TV a week ago. I like the TV but it is a little buggy. One reviewer said that it didn't remember things from the remote well. I thought that was a jest but I've had the same experience. You enter stuff on the remote but it's different when you go back sometimes. Weird. It has easy to use menus however and it will eventually remember the settings correctly if you put them in a time or two. Maybe I did something wrong, I'm not really sure. It could be that you have to do it a certain way for it to remember the setting.
My biggest two problems so far with the TV are the service port will not load updated firmware and the default picture quality. Westinghouse is working on the issue with the service port. They've called me several times now. Since I don't have a big problem with anything hardware related I'm not all that concerned about that one.
The second annoyance is the default picture setting SUCK. It's a monitor though in essence with a tuner and as such it can be adjusted to a perfect picture unless something is really wrong. I own a spider used to calibrate monitors but so far I have not used it. I just used someone elses settings from a forum and the picture is VERY nice after making the changes. It seems stupid to me Westinghouse would ship it with uncalibrated settings as the "default".
The picture is beautiful though. It makes non HD DVD's look poor quality after watching HD for a while. It reminds me of going back to VHS at times. It really shines on good HD signals.

- i have an LG 50" plasma, got it from Ultimate Electronic in 06, about 2 hrs ago the famous popping noise that every LG & Zenith customer have been waiting for came to me, now no picture or sometime very dark.
plan to call them tomorrow ...
ill never buy an LG or Zenith again...
- I also am a victim of this television... Bought it Nov 2005 - I guess we were lucky since it didn't POP until November 2007... got it fixed ($620) then it went again last week (July 2008)... now I see all of these poor reviews and wonder if we should file a class action suit? You pay over $3000 for a TV - it should last longer than two years!
Any comments? I'll look into this and post any info I find.

- Bought this tv about 2 1/2 years ago and just a few days ago I got the "pop" and black screen. Talked to the Zenith/LG people and they said its out of warranty so can't help.
Update - If you have this problem, call 877-543-8325. I spoke with the supervisor and she took down my information and extended the warranty for this one repair. No cost and the repair will be done within one-two weeks.
- Zenith Z50PX2D 50 inch plasma is bad product. Bought mine on Jan 22, 2006 and last night POP! No more picture, just like many others. I bought the 4 year extended warranty from BestBuy (thank goodness). I have mine wall mounted with good ventilation.
- Have the Zenith plasma 50" Z50PX2D purchased 4/6/07. We are probably below average TV users and TV popped Sept. 11, 2008. 17 months after install. Did not buy extended warranty. TV repairman from store that TV was purchased from picked up TV and has had it for 2 weeks with no news. I started looking for a new TV and came across all these "popping" reviews. I will call local store to inform him of this problem and that I am not alone. However, when I called checking on status, clerk said he has 8 flat screens that he is working on and waiting for parts! I will also call the 877-543-8325 posted previously and see what they can do for us. Update: Called LG & talked to a supervisor and he is helping me. My confidence for Zenith/LG has been restored!

- I bought this TV last February. For those of you who don't want to read this review in its entirety...just DON'T THROW AWAY THE BOX! Now where was I, oh yeah, like those who reviewed the unit earlier I too was very impressed with its initial performance. I foolishly threw away the box within a couple of weeks. I mean LCD TV is a proven technology right? Not a good idea. After about 8 months the picture started turning green. First intermittently and then it would remain green all the time. It was like all of the darker parts of the picture were being replaced by a dark green. The picture also got grainy like a computer monitor switched to 256 colors. I contacted Norcent customer service. I had to be very proactive and had to keep pinging them to keep them "responsive". In order to obtain warranty service the unit had to be shipped back to CA (I live in MD) at my expense and if damaged in route, Norcent will refuse to accept it. Many of the shippers I queried were either ridiculously high or not willing to take on the risk at all. Fortunately I was able to find a reputable shipper that would ship the unit for only $100 (paid extra to get the insurance coverage and special care) and fortunately it didn't get damaged in route. The unit was returned to me well within their guaranteed 4-week response time. The original warranty expired last month and there is no warranty on repairs. So-far-so-good after three weeks. Picture quality is now excellent. Hopefully this was just a glitch that surfaced early in the production run and is now resolved...
- To make a long story short, this is a BAD tv.had to ship back to the factory for repair at my expense. All i know to do with it is to let my grandson play with it by taking it apart.Do not buy a norcent product.
- You will be sorry if you buy this TV. We loved it at first-great deal, great picture. One month out of warrantee the picture started getting jumbled. It happened once in a while. It is now getting progressively worse. Last night the picture went out 3 times in 3 hours. We approached Norcent right away when the problem started. They said they could not (and would not) help us since it was out of warrantee. They do not have any authorized repair centers either.
There is obviously something wrong with this product since there are so many complaints online. Norcent does not support their products and I will never buy from them again.
If anyone found a solution to this issue please post it!!
- A month after my warranty expired - i got the jumbled screen syndrome as well. Not sure whether to fix it or just buy a new "brand" name TV at this stage.
- Worked fine for a while then 2 months out of warranty it went haywire with green lines like other people have mentioned. It is unwatchable. I just brought it to the dump today. Do yourself a favor. Buy a name brand.

- I found an amazing deal on this TV at Conn's and decided to go out on a limb with this TV, even though I really haven't heard much about Norcent's plasmas. I'm really glad I did! It has every feature you could want, and I have been very happy with the sound quality compared to the other, more expensive plasmas I looked at. Of course, we're not talking Bose quality sound, but it's plenty for everyday TV (who really wants to hear Dora in surround sound anyway?). Also, the picture is amazing even using plain old component cables. I have heard so many complaints about TV's that cost twice as much as i paid for this one; all-in-all, you can't beat this TV.
- I purchased a Norcent PT4240hd for around $1700 in March of 2006.
I was fairly happy with this TV until it suddenly quit working after only 15 months of use. It will power on but the screen is dead.
Norcent only warrants their TV's for one year. Not a good buy when you have such a short warranty.
