5 comments about Panasonic TH-50PX77U 50-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV.
- Bought this product from Amazon after returning a crappy craapy Samsung 5064 50" plasma. Couldn't be happier with my decision. With Samsung; I'd get a bad feeling everytime I turned the TV on that I wont work and you know what ...one day it actually didn't. Luckily that all happened withint 30 days so before I had to deal with more of Samsung's D grade horrible customer service, Amazon came to my rescue and I swapped it with this Panny 77U . Its a great TV, picture is stunningly clear, the speakers are very good. The SD also isnt bad at all , it looks a little strecthed (cuz i see it full screen to avoid any burn in) but its pretty good. I get a 1080i signal and with some adjustments , I have no complains about the picture whatsoever. It is also not as warm as Samsung. Just one thing I wish it had was more picture controls like gamma correction or something like that cuz i wish I can get a little more brighter picture , not that its bad but sometimes its nice to have brighter piture without maxing out the contrast and picture settings. But all in all 5 stars for the TV and 6 stars to Amazon for their great customer service and white glove delivery which is amazingly fast , efficient and curteous.
- save delivery, easy assembly (two people req. for standing up the TV on the stand) very good picture quality (HD)
- Have had this window on the world for 8 months now and I must say I can't watch any of my other sets (non HD) anymore. Have it connected to Direct TV HD and it is wonderful. Was able to watch the Masters golf tourney for the first time on HD and it was like I had never seen it before even though I watch every year. The detail and sharpness is just awesome. Direct TV supplies all the cables so no need to purchase those. Just get it, you will enjoy TV like never before!
- This TV has the best picture I've ever seen on a TV. Everyone who comes over and sees it says the same thing, even on the standard channels. The HD through Direct TV is like nothing I've ever seen. Even just a standard DVD looks awesome. I highly recommend this set!
- I spent alot of time looking at hundreds of different plasmas and lcds, every time I looked at a different tv I always came back to this model. I love the anti-glare and it works great for my PS3 and blueray movies. Its perfect in blueray. For the price the 720P was the better choice for me. I have had this tv for almost a year now and have had no problems. Everyone that comes over thinks it is awesome, I can't be happier with this set.

4 comments about Hitachi P42T501 42-Inch HD1080 Plasma HDTV.
- At 1024x1080 it's not the full 1080p, but the picture is outstanding!
It's priced competitively making it an awsome value.
- I purchased the Hitachi P50H401A this year (2007) after the price drop. This set was introduced in spring of 2007. It is 1080i resolution (not 1080p) but if you're not sure what that means, read more below.
RESOLUTION: 1080i VS 1080p
Most people think that 1080p is a better picture than 1080i. However, they're wrong. The pixel count in a 1080i unit is exactly the same as all 1080p TVs. The only difference is how the 1080 resolution is achieved. In 1080i (interlaced) units, the horizontal lines are drawn first, then 1 millisecond later, the vertical lines are drawn. In 1080p (progressive)units, the horizontal lines are held back 1 millisecond so that both horizontal and vertical lines arrive on the screen at the same time. The human eye is physically unable to see the difference since the interlace process happens so quickly.
PICTURE QUALITY
The Hitachi P50H401A has a gorgeous, beautifully detailed picture out of the box. However, a few "tweaks" such as setting the color to "Film Standard" makes it even better since it matches the color standard of the Hollywood studios. I used the Avia Home Theater CD (used by professional AV installers) to calibrate my Hitachi. Believe me, blacks are BLACK (not dark gray) and whites are WHITE. You simply can't get a better match.
MENU SYSTEM
The menu system is intuitive and easy to use. There are many user selectable functions to enable you to configure the Hitachi exactly as you want it. (It'll even wake up, turn ON, and tune in any user selected channel - a nice feature.)
ATSC TUNER
The quality of the built-in tuner was a nice surprise. My Hitachi is hooked directly to a very small HDTV antenna (no set top box of any kind) and I'm still pulling in all local station with perfect HD quality.
TABLE-TOP STAND
The included table-top stand is very sturdy and unobtrusive. It holds the TV securely (no wobble at all). It dark black and has an imitation marble look to it (very attractive indeed).
SPEAKER SYSTEM
The Hitachi P50H401A has a built-in speaker system. Frankly, this is the only area where I think Hitachi could've done better. The sound isn't bad but it isn't stellar either. Hitachi does a great job of hiding their speakers but should've installed a beefier speaker system. For smaller rooms, they'll be fine buy in my 25x20 living room I could've used a few more watts of power. However, the Hitachi does come with speaker OUT jacks and an audio optical OUT jack so you can hook up your own speaker system to it (for the audiophiles out there).
SUMMING UP
I could have paid $2400.00 for a Samsung or $2700 for a Sony but why? Hitachi has put together a great TV at a terrific price point. Believe me, when you get this set home, you'll love it as much as I do. (And you'll have hundreds of dollars left too.)
PS. If you're considering a 42-inch TV, remember that NO 42-inch TV has a true 1080i or 1080p resolution because they cannot physically contain all of the pixels required for the higher resolution. A 50-inch TV is the smallest TV that is physically capable of containing all of the pixels required for a true 1080 resolution. Sure, they tell you that a 42-inch TV is true 1080 but what they mean is that the pixel density is such that it WOULD be a true 1080 unit if it were big enough to contain all of the required pixels. (Hey, but what do I know. I only worked in the engineering department of RCA, designing TVs for a few years.)
- I am very please with this purchase. The resolution of this set is great even for the non-HD channels on digital and especially the analog cable channels. I also purchased a HDMI v1.3 cable and the picture was even more stunning particularly on the Discovery HD Theater Channel. Although not full 1080P, I could hardly notice the difference when connected to my Toshiba HD-DVD 1080P player-the HD-DVD Movie "DreamGirls" looked great! This is a terrific set for those who watch regular HD Programming and want good analog resolution from cable channels at a reasonable price. Highly recommended!!!
- I've had the Hitachi P42T501 42" plasma TV for about 3 months now and I have not been disappointed. The picture is crystal clear and when watching HD programming on my DishNetwork Satellite Receiver, everything looks so real. When watching a game on NFL HD it feels like you are sitting right there on the field. I got it for a reasonable price at Vann's online store with free shipping to boot. That saved some big bucks since it was delivered to my home via 18-wheeler. Sound is adequate for my living room and this TV has plenty of A/V inputs for all your electronic components. I currently have a DVD player/recorder, HD-DVD player, X-box, Wii, Gamecube, and Nintendo 64 connected and still have an HDMI and a composite input available. Also, this TV has a really good built in digital tuner so that you are ready for the digital transition in Feb. 2009. I live about 50-60 miles from most of my local TV stations and with my rooftop antenna this TV picks up the analog, digital and HD signals available. Also, this TV may not be a top pick in Consumer Reports, but it did come in on the list at number 29 which I feel is a pretty respectable number considering the number of TVs on the market.

- Got this TV as a Christmas 07 present for somebody else. It started acting up after 4 months. Did not pay too much attention to it until July 08 when it was really not working. Sometimes the speakers made a cracking sound, sometimes there is picture but not sound. Sometimes there is not picture at all. Sometimes the TV does not respond to the remote control. Took it to the place where we bought it. They sent it out. Got a call that the Mainboard was bad. The parts are still under warranty (1Year) but the labor is only for 90 days. So to fix this unit will cost $179 for labor. What a joke. We paid $275 for it new and now we have to pay $179 to fix a practically new TV. I have not talked to Magnavox yet we will see if they will replace the unit or at least send me the mainboard and I will replace it myself. Depending on the outcome of the customer service call I may change my rating from 2 stars to maybe 4 stars. The upshot is that a 7 month old TV should still work as new and if it fails the manufacturer should either replace it of fix it for free. 90 day labor warranty is nonsense.
Leasons learned : I will review the warranties before buying something new. If Labor is less than 1 year will not buy item at all.

- No problems so far. Just bought it today and hooked up the PC and Wii to it. Picture is really good. Have not hooked analog cable to it yet. Anxious to see how that looks
- I really debated this one when I saw it at a big box store, but I am very pleasantly surprised. One of the big pluses is how good the HDTV reception is off of the antenna. I have a large set that can barely receive off air (only some channels in the evening) but this little Sharp gets them all without any problem. I was also worried about the channel delay as it's very annoying with my big TV. This model is not that bad, better than the big screen, but there is still a pause between channels. I don't know if it's any better with any other digital TV. The other thing that's odd, but I've gotten used to it, is that the Sharp mixes analog and digital together as you use the channel changer. My big screen makes you switch into analog or digital mode to view those channels.
I was also worried about the sound quality since I have friends with flat screens that sound terrible, but there is nothing wrong with the sound from the Sharp, it's not amazing, but it has a good quality and decent volume. The remote is also easy to use, a great relief.
The DVD player so far has handled all my DVD-R home made disk without problem, which was a concern. it has some nifty features such as language and subtitles buttons not on my expensive player. Other than that it seems a normal DVD player with good picture quality.
So far I haven't found anything to fault accept the screen doesn't tilt (it's fixed) and there's no handle to easily move it around.
I would definitely buy it again.
- I went for this TV because, generally speaking, Sharp makes great LCDs. The cabinet facing is simply artwork and is well suited for our kitchen, but functionality is a whole different story. The screen on mine, admittedly is not calibrated yet, but it displays a uniform bright hue across the very top and bottom of the screen. So, in other words, the extremeties of the screen are washed-out whereas the rest of the picture is normal. Channel changing is slow and tedious compared to the older and cheaper Audiovox FPE-1505DV that I'm replacing. The Sharp cabinet is also notably thicker than the older Audiovox, although this is a bigger TV screen with a better picture between the aforementioned "rays of light" in the extremeties. The Sharp does have a nifty wire management area in the back of the set, but the engineers decided to drop the A/C plug-in on the other side. Hello? Note to the design team: Let's keep the wires together on one side of the set so ALL can be cleanly tucked away. This one's probably going back. I might as well save $300 and get a CRT with speedy channel changing if I can't get a Sharp UNIFORM picture with proper wire management. You'll grow old if you have over 30 channels to surf!
- I don't like it because of the glossy, shiny black trim around the screen. It reflects every tiny source of light in the room creating annoying distractions while viewing. Even the screen is reflected, since the glossy edge is beveled inwards toward the screen. In real world viewing, it's awful. The trim looks fine, as long as the unit is OFF.
I chose to mount this unit on the wall. The power supply cord is TOO short, at about 5 feet. I had to purchase a longer cord. Also the power supply cord goes into the opposite end of the unit than the other cables, making the power cord much more difficult to hide.
The 1.5 watt speakers provide only JUST enough volume for my 12' x 12' room. If there were much ambient noise, these speakers would not provide enough volume. This room is farily quiet, and I still have the unit at near maximum volume.
Other than that, everything seemed fine.
- I have been a fan of Sharp products for years and this TV has not changed my opinion of this company. I hooked the TV up to my analog cable and was totally amazed by the picture quality. It's hard to imagine how great the HD picture will be when I finally breakdown and buy a cable box for my office. All the programing features are easy to use, and swiching viewing modes (there are several to choose from) is a snap. DVD is simple to operate and works seemlessly. I highly recommend this TV.

5 comments about Sony Bravia M-Series KDL-37M3000 37-Inch 720p LCD HDTV.
- I am working overseas and purchased this television for my Parents. we are so disappointed because the picture quality is very poor. My parents had the cable company come out to check the connections, and decided to change the cable connection from the pole to the television but the picture quality is still bad. We contacted Sony and they are sending a replacement TV to my parent's house under the warranty ,but my fear is that I have purchased a television that is made to a poor standard. Just hope that the replacement lives up to the quality that I expected from Sony
- FANTASTIC TV WITH A BEAUTIFUL PICTURE. BOUGHT IT ON SALE FOR $899 WITH FREE SHIPPING AND NO SALES TAX. I WAS A LITTLE WORRIED ABOUT BUYING A TV THROUGH THE INTERNET BECAUSE I WAS UNSURE IF WOULD ARRIVE SAFELY. IT WAS VERY WELL PACKED AND EASY TO SET UP. THE 37" WAS A GOOD CHOICE FOR OUR DEN. WE ARE THRILLED WITH IT. IT'S AMAZING ALL THE DETAILS IT PICKS UP THAT WE COULDN'T GET ON THE OLD SET. HIGHLY RECOMEND THIS ONE!
- This TV is so much superior to the Olevia 37" LCD that we purchased a two years ago. I only wish I had waited and purchased two of the Sony Bravia's instead. Much better at showing dark areas of the screen. Works great with my Apple TV, Sony DVD, and cable connection. You can count me as one VERY HAPPY customer!
- There may be other slightly cheaper brands with good looks or good picture quality, but none of them have both, like this Sony Bravia. Add to this the Sony name and competitive pricing, this Sony Bravia easily beats its competition.
The contrast is excellent and the display is bright. I think the picture quality actually beats my 46" Bravia I bought last year. I haven't used any yet but it's got plenty of input options, including VGA and HDMI ports. I highly recommend this set.
- The only problem with SONY TV's is that they, like the Energizer Bunny, keep going and going and going. My 1986 Sony 19 inch needed a big brother and after looking at Sharp and Samsung and others I concluded that the SONY LCD 37 inch Bravia 3000 was the logical choice. The 37 inch is large enough for the average sized living room, the remote simple and 'uncluttered' containing only the functions and features you will use 99% of the time, and nothing more. The menu system is easy to understand and interact with, and has my favorite feature, seemingly unique to SONY, the INFO BANNER, that displays the title of the program currently aired. The picture quality is excellent and does not have that overly emphasized contrast that many lesser brands use like a fishing lure to entice the unwary buyer. SONY, simply put, is a great product overall, and the Bravia LCD in particular is well designed having fantastic well balanced warm natural colors, sufficient controls to enhance picture and sound to your personal taste and an array of inputs that satisfy most needs. If there is any doubt, yes I am a loyal SONY customer because once you have had the best there is no substitute.
