  1. Westinghouse SK-32H540S 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV

I bought this TV thinking Wow! what a great deal and originally, the TV was great. Great picture quality, kept up with fast action, great sound. THEN JUST TWO YEARS after I bought it - it just quit. Nothing. Called the Westinghouse customer support and was told to contact the two repair companies in my area. Called them and BOTH told me to just throw it away. By the time the parts were ordered and came in, I'd have spent more on repairs than simply buying a new LCD TV. The repair people told me that they have had a lot of customers with this same problem and that this brand is absolute junk.
    DO NOT BUY THIS BRAND!!!

  1. THis TV is really really nice, the picture is great and the quality is excellent, there are many features on it and they all work so well. the picture, is great, I can't get over the quality (as it should be) the 780psi? whatever the resolution should be -- the 780 is up there and it really is a great picture. I love the fact that you can input so many devices on it, there is about 25 holes for many differenct devices to plug into tv.
AS you can see I am NOT A TECHie hahaha, but I do know a great picture when i See it. w
I plugged it in and it was all set. and i did a auto installation and it works great!! I did absolutley nothing to get it going the tv did all the work.
    This is a good deal!!!

  2. I bought this TV to demonstrate Karaokes that I have from the Philippines. I did not intend to use it for watching TV alone. But when I first turned it on, setup was automatic, and the quality of the picture was beyond reproach. Now I use it exclusively for watching TV over a much larger TV in an air-conditioned room. That is how truly good this TV is. At one time, I thought Magnavox TVs were of poor quality, but so far this TV is just as good as a Panasonic or Sony.

The quality of the sound could be improved, but I am running the sound through wireless earphones and/or a stereo shelf system which I also bought from Amazon.com. I will review the shelf system and wireless earphones in another post.

Overall, I could not be more happy with this TV or with Amazon on this particular purchase.

  1. If you want an LCD TV at a budget price with a super picture then buy this JVC. Easy set up, lightweight, comes with a stand. My friend has a high dollar Sharp and I really can't see the difference that justifies the extra $$$$'s.

  2. This is a wonderful tv that I've had for nearly a year. The built-in speakers are great quality and LOUD! Volume goes up to 40, but I keep it around 12. You can also set it for lower max volume if you don't want your kids turning it up too loud. It has smart sound so it doesn't get excessively loud when shows go to commercials. The picture is great and bright.. very bright. Performs well while watching high speed scenes on dvd or tv. You can set it to come on and turn off certain times at certain volumes once or daily. Definitely a good choice when looking for a new tv. JVC is a good brand and when looking for a well priced hdtv that will last make sure you know the brand. I kiss my wife for this gift every time we sit down and watch it.

  1. Lg Electronics M3701c-ba Black 37" Wide Screen Hdtv Compatible LCD T.v.
Delivery speedy and driver unpacked and checked basic operation. With Directv Satellite service even HD programming is excellent. Even quieting of commercial volume works. Only negatives thus far (3 weeks) are: a)to much time for channels to change ( maybe satellite?) b)operations manual is on CD. The printed one has far to little info, but will get you started.

  2. I have had this television for about 6 months now. I originally purchased an open box display unit that mysteriously would shut itself on and off. Once it was off it wouldn't power up for hours with the switch or remote. After thoroughly checking all the timer and alarm settings I called LG about the problem only to find that the serial number had already been registered with this complaint and scheduled for a return to the factory. Circuit City shamelessly tried to sell it instead!

Anyway I got a brand new model from CC for the same price because of their mistake. And have loved every minute of owning this unit. I immediately upgraded my digital cable to include an HD DVR and purchased a Yamaha 5.1 receiver for optimal sound. (Mostly to use with my Mac mini home theater connected with a DVI to HDMI cable and sound through a TOSlink optical cord.)

Television quality is excellent. Nice high contrast ratio. Response rate is quick for sports and F1 races (and gaming is superb in HD!) Overall I couldn't recommend this HDTV enough. LG continues to impress me with their quality and value.

  3. the tv picture is horrible. watching a basketball game looks worse than any regular tv. i was going to return but upon reading the internet sites fine print. there is no returns on lcd tv's. so i will have to take the hit. horrible lcd tv

  4. We ordered the TV via Amazon and even though shipping would have been free, I paid a little extra to have it delivered in 3 days because I feared the longer it stayed in the shipping process, the better the chances of it being damaged.

Anyway, we are very happy with the TV. The distance from which you watch it is important. The best picture is from a distance of about 15' away. Any closer, and the picture isn't as great. But it's hard to go back to regular TV once you've watched it in HD. I'm hopelessly spoiled!

The set up was EASY! I read reviews about how difficult it was to set it up, and that's bogus. It was very easy. Given, I am electronically inclined, but I think my husband could have set it up easily and he's a doof. Haha!

The sound is great too, especially for built in speakers.

I was scared to buy something this pricey online, because if something goes wrong, you're kind of screwed. But the entire process from purchase to delivery was perfect. I do recommend reading up on sellers though, before you decide to go for it. Read other customer reviews on the seller!!! I changed my mind on a seller last minute and paid a little more for the TV just because I had a bad feeling.

  5. I am not an expert in electronics so I will keep this short and sweet. This tv was just the right size for my needs, has an excellent picture (as far as my eyes are concerned) and the price was right!! I am pleased with the purchase.

  1. I see that most of the 1 star reviews are from people that had problems, which is understandable. However, if it works likes mine, it is a 5 star tv for the price. (update, I have this for 1 month now, watch my bedtime shows about 2-4 hours every night with it without any problems. There was a power spike 2 weeks ago in the house that took me 5-8 tries to unplug and power back on, but eventually it worked. Oh well, still a 5 star rating until is stops working.)

I got mine from the local BB, and it works. I wanted a 120htz tv, but it costs 30-80+% more. For the price, I could not resist this one; plus, the convenience of getting it on the spot makes it more tempting.

I have bought a 32" westinghouse lcd tv for my mom several years ago, and it seems to be running. Also Westinghouse seems to have one of the higher quality picture in the low-cost tv range.

My next tv after this one may be for the 60" sony xbr 120hz, but only when the prices come down. This will be good to tie me over until then.

I have a 1080i hd-dvd player plugged into the hdmi (I think there is 4 possible) connection--works great, no skipped frames. My dvd player is plugged in with components (2 possible); my sat/directv is plugged in the video (only 1 possible).

    Nice features:
auto shut off when there is no signal

automatic switch when there is a new signal (I can watch the TV, but when I turn on the DVD player, sat, or hd-dvd, it automatically switches over without fiddling with the tv. however, when I turn off the hd player, it goes through auto-off because there is no signal--it doesn't try to find another available signal.)

the internal hd tuner picks up my local channels with rabbit years. (I have an amplified antennae which works better, but I was able to use another non-amplified antenna to get all of my local channels. The rabbit years are pointed funny to get better reception than the amplified ones, but it works.)

I can still see that the samsung / sony's get a better picture from the color tricks that they do; however, if you do not have the higher quality tv sitting next to this one when you are watching it, it is hard to tell the difference when you are standing 6 feet away.

    Pros:
47" big screen, cheap price, high quality picture in the low-cost class

    Cons:
only 1 video input (I personally would rather have 2 video input and 3 hdmi instead of 1 vid and 4 hdmi).

the "energy off" produces a low freq hum. (this off mode is also set off when you use the sleep function). I simply turned off the energy feature--however, the hum after I used the sleep function still annoys me when I wake up in the morning. (maybe when I get older, I will become deaf to lower frequency noises--ha!)

Overall, I am currently giving this a 5 star. Rest assured, if this thing breaks on me within 2 years, I will definately take it down to 1 star (or less)!

  2. I purchased a Westinghouse TV and within 4 months the TV was broken. At that point I called customer support and they were NOT willing to stand behind thier product. I asked if they found it reasonable for a TV go out in 4 months, all they said was that they could not help me.

  3. This is my fourth hdtv and it is a great value. I think there is at least one or two angry owners, perhaps writing multiple "one star" reviews. I guess we have all been there when we get a lemon. This unit offers a lot for the money. 1080p is for Blu-ray, the winner in the hd dvd war, so there is good reason to get this level of screen for that reason alone. It has an extensive array of inputs which is handy when you have cable, dvd, and other sources to feed the tv. I was most amazed at the tuner. I am in a lousy area for reception. My other units need an outside antenna. This set uses an indoor bowtie and gets all the channels (28 of them) with minimal dropout. That is phenomenal. The LCD tvs have a problem with black, but it is much less noticeable in HD and slightly annoying with coax reception for standard definition. This is true for all of the LCDs. My best picture is on my first HD, a direct view flat crt. This is the better choice and easy to live with. Price is lower than any in its class.

  4. I was looking for a great deal and TV, thought I fould it with the Westinghouse. My issues is not with the TV, understand things happen (hate when it is with me) but my issues is with Westinghouse's customer service. My TV worked great till after 3 weeks no picture....nothing not even the Westinghouse screen. OK it's under warranty...giving the readers digest version it's taken me over 7 weeks of calling Westinghouse (oh year each time you call you must start at step 1...frustrating, but not the poor customer reps fault. Finally after waiting for them to approve getting my TV repaired, waiting for the service tech to come to my house...to my last call where I was told that "if you don't get any picture we just replace" Yikes...so with 7 weeks w/ no TV I had to shell out $200 to ship it back and am now waiting on another week for them to ship me, hopefully. a new one. Again I may have got the "made on Friday TV"...and I can understand that...but the customer service at Westinghouse just beat me down...they never returned a call, and I was very nice each time I called.

So...my great internet deal went all to he%%...so as I look to replace my living room TV with a 52"...Ii am sad to say it won't be a Westinghouse and I'll purchase it locally

  5. I purchased this HDTV just over a year ago. Out of the box I was impressed with the picture and thought I had received an amazing deal on this value-priced 1080P HDTV. Then after about a month I started having problems with the HDMI connections. More often than not the TV would not recognize the DVD player connected via HDMI unless I restarted the TV with a powercycle. Over the course of a year between my wife and me we put maybe 500 hours on it, which is quite low. About two weeks after my one-year warranty ran out I was watching TV, hit one of the "Favorites" buttons and the TV became stuck on one channel. I pushed nearly every button on the remote and got nothing, so I tried holding the power button in for 10 seconds to do a power-cycle restart. The TV restarted, the white Westinghouse symbol popped up for a few seconds and then the screen went black while the power lights remained on. Unplugged/replugged in the TV several times and got the same results.

Emailed the Westinghouse customer service a couple times and was told they'd never heard of this issue before. Googled the issue and found a few others with the same problem, but no solution, so I called up Westinghouse for help. Took a looong time to get through, but finally got someone to try a couple fixes with me...no luck. As soon as I mentioned the TV was a couple weeks out of warranty the phone call came to a drastic halt and was told I had to find a local repairman. Thanks for the $1,500 brick Westinghouse!

Took the TV to the only LCD repairman in the area and he told me I should have bought a Samsung or a Sony because Westinghouse uses cheap crappy parts. TVs been in the shop for almost three weeks now. Repairman thinks it's a bad circuit board.

Learn from my mistake...buy something else!

  1. With just a little tweaking on the settings I feel this is a very good tv for the price. It was less than the samsung of the same size. I purchased this for a bedroom and I am not disappointed one bit. Would recommend this to who ever is intrested in purchasing a 26"

  2. Exellent picture and sound. Easy set-up. Easy access to inputs on side and back. Not sure I like the shiny black frame, though. Fine for a bedroom set - glad I didn't buy the 23" size.

  3. Only issue I have with this HDTV is that the internal sound capability is not up to most external reproduction; use of a video receiver sound system is recommended. Otherwise, this is a lovely, very easy to use HDTV. As a broadcast antenna user, I enjoy the digital signal strength display.

  4. Delivery was quick. Easy to set up, even my husband could do it without frustration. Set up before I came home from work.

  5. There was a lot said about this TV's picture quality and all this is true. The picture quality of this TV is very good. HD and Analog.
The problem I have is a menu system. There are some menu items that are not thought through well.
    For example:
    1. A simple task of manually adding and removing channels will become a 30 min frustrations. The problem is that you can not remove certain channel while being tuned to it, you have to go through 10 button clicks to get to the list of all channels where there is no preview, just a list of numbers and the check boxes. In that list you have to remember by number what channel you want to keep and which one to remove. Also, good luck, scrolling to the end of the list. There is no page scrolling, so you'll have to go one by one all the way down if you need to remove, for example, channel 160.
    2. Pushing "picture size" button shows you the list of available sizes, and TV picture changes size as you go through them, the problem is the list of available sizes shown in the middle of the screen and takes 70% of screen size, so you can't even see the effect.
    3. and so on....
