  1. Very seldom do I ever buy something without doing my research first. Especially when it comes to technology. This television set was one of many that I had my eye on. It was in my price range, a good size, and had a black border. Obviously I ultimately decided on this one and I'm VERY glad that I did. The sound quality is great right fromt the television, the picture is phenominal (it's an HD...duh), and it automatically resizes the screen back to sidebar if you're just watching standard channels.

The only thing I would warn people about is the universal remote function. Being in the United States, I have Comcast for my service. The Comcast remotes that come with the boxes do NOT work on this television as of 5/20/2008. This may change in the future because the companies are always releasing new codes out however, they do not work right now. So if you're okay with a great looking tv but have to use two remotes: this is a great set for you!

  2. I bought this for my dorm room next year so I am expecting to play video games and watch tv with it. I have tested it out with my xbox and playstation and so far the picture quality has been great. I definitely recommend this to anyone who wants an affordable tv with a good picture

  3. I received this as a present this past Christmas and put it in a small bedroom where the viewing distance was about 8 feet away and it was fine. Nice clean picture using co-ax cables but they don't give you a choice. There are NO HDMI inputs on this unit so there's no way to get true HD. Component cables are kinda of cumbersome from a cable box so I went with co-ax. In all honesty I still love the TV. It's very easy to move around and has a pretty good sound all on it's own. If the price was right, I'd buy another one.

  1. We have searched high and low for the best tv we could find that would fit our budget. We wanted a brand we could trust. That is why we went with this tv. Packaging was great shipping was great. But the family was blown away with the first movie we watched on it (National Treasure2) We now all fight to who gets to use it.Set up was a breeze. We also use it for gaming. When we play 4 player games it is like watching a 4 seperate 20 inch screens.

  2. I did alot of research on Plasma's on LCD TV's. I always felt plasma's look slightly better plus they were cheaper. I was worried about some of the horror stories i read on plasmas. Anyway i've had this TV for 2 months now. This what i think of it so far...
    Pros:
Antiglare screen (does a good job even though my tv is in a bad spot)
Picture- Very sharp looking with HD signals(Blue-ray and Cable HD
Non-HD channels lookg pretty good too.
Multiple Anti-Burn in tools- easy to use
    Price

    Cons:
Burn-in happens pretty fast. If something is on your screen for more then 15 mins it will get burned in.(But you can only see it on VERY light colors)
Speakers kinda suck.(Most people who get this size tv get some kind audio system too though)

Even though this is probably just my bad luck but one of my pixels became stuck in blue. Hopefully it will be the only one.

  3. I was at first very pleased with this set. Great picture, great delivery from Amazon.

But then I began noticing 'burn-in' issues. The first I noticed was two vertical stripes, both about 5 inches in from the sides. Then I noticed that CNNHD was also burned in, even though I don't leave it on there for long periods of time. I also have the burn-in protection set, and I've run both the suggested fixes (all white and scrolling) with neither helping.

Contacted Samsung and they agreed that it shouldn't be happening. Currently waiting for local repair shop set up by Samsung to attempt a fix.

  4. i was very pleased with my plasma tv when i connected my satelite hd receiver to it. the picture quality is unbelievable and unmatched. the shipment and delivery was superb, the tv arrived a few days earlier than stated, and the delivery company contacted me and asked if i would like to recieve my tv tomorrow which was a few days sooner than anticipated. the delivery guy did it all, deliver,unpacked,set-up,tested for flaws, removed unwanted packaging material. great job amazon.

  5. Amazing picture with great color. My wife and I constantly marvel at how beautiful the picture is as we watch television. I like everything about it. The sound is not fantastic but it isn't supposed to be...exceeds my expectations in almost every way.

The DirecTV HD signals look gorgeous. 720P is a great value for the price. I don't see how I could have a better picture.

  1. Have been looking to upgrade a kitchen set and add the DVD player all in one shot. Reviewed and looked at a number of sets from all the usual suspects. This one got the selection due to price, features, name and quality (have 32" "tube" TV and DVD player that are Toshiba as well as past laptops). Ordered on a Wednesday received on Friday (Supersaver is superfast!). We have enjoyed it so much we end up watching more TV in the kitchen then ever. DVD player is great and the whole setup was so easy. Our basic cable included 15 HD channels that the tuner picked up immediately and we were watching our first at home HDTV shows and concerts (love HDNet) right away. This will push me into a larger set in the living room a lot faster than I thought as the difference in picture quality is so much better that all I want to watch is stuff that comes in HD. Oh well X-mas is right around the corner. Picture quality, as you might guess is great, ease of operation has been no problem for this babby boomer. Just a great 19 inch combo that fills the bill on what you would want out of a 19 inch.

  2. Looks great, works great, installed with wall mount in the kitchen for 180 degree viewing. Meets all our expectations.

  3. Looks great. Has much better picture than comparable home brands of same size from Best Buy, etc. Replaces a bedroom 13" CRT w/VHS player. Brings in off-the-air analog and digital signals just fine. DVD picture quality is great, too. I've read other reviews which said sound quality was sub-par, but we think it's fine for our purposes. I'd recommend it to a friend.

  4. The picture quality on this TV is excellent. I am currently on analog with substandard cable and a splitter in the attic (older house) and it still shows a nice picture HOWEVER the sound quality is not good. It is very disappointing. It takes the points away from the very nice picture. I have to turn the sound all the way up (100%) sometimes just to hear it good. I've never had to turn the sound all the way up on any TV. I am sensitive to sound. I'm usually turning sound down on TV's. I even mute commercials because I don't want to hear the sound. The sound I do hear is "tinny". I've played with the bass and treble and balance on the menu but it's still not what I feel it should be. I have cheaper brand TV's where the sound is much better. I'm so disappointed because I have a 37" Toshiba LCD TV in the living room and the sound on that one is fine. Don't know what happened here. I've considered returning it but I already threw the box away. I should have waited.

  5. We replaced an older panasonic 15" w/dvd in our kitchen with this unit and it was a big step up. No more squinting at scores in the lower corner from the third bar stool. Image quality and color saturation are very good. Artifacts from quick movement in HD media is fairly well controlled. Cabling on the back was clean and simple if you use a 90 degree connector for the cable. The only feature that does not measure up to the rest of the features is the audio. It is not that it is too soft as some people have written. It is that the sound spectrum for some sources seems clipped. It is not significant and there are audio out jacks if this is important to you. The bottom line is that we would not hesitate to buy this unit. It is well made and works well.

  1. I ordered this from the Panasonic EPP. I had it for about a week so far and I'm very satisfied. This is my first LCD TV and it met all my expectations. The interface and manual is simple to understand and use. I have it hook up directly to cable and both SD and HD channels look great. Picture quality- excellent (within recommended viewing angle). Some subtle things I like are the gloss black finish, low power consumption, above average speakers (and sleek design), and the remote which has a great fit and feel. I totally recommend this product for anyone in the market for a 26" LCD tv.

  2. I love this. I looked at a 40 inch and this and this had far better picture quality and sound. I mainly wanted this for video games and it was great with movies too. It also paid to have Amazon Prime, because I saved a fortune with the free shipping.

  3. This was the perfect choice for the in law unit. Mounted on the wall it looks great, and the picture is crisp.

  4. I spent two months shopping for a new HDTV. Checked out all the top ones. Decided on a Samsung, then saw the new Panasonic 26LX85. It blew me away with the picture and features. Went back three times to different sellers, and it always caught my eye.

Just received it two days ago. Absolutely made the right decision. Get it before it becomes the top seller it really will be. Lots of features, no pc hookup(get 32") and 10K dynamic. Check it out. Panasonic you made a great viewing experience for me!!!

  5. Excellent quality for its price category, especially given that it was on sale when I bought it. Very high quality image and the speaker sound is about as good as internal speakers get; given that these were my two main qualifications for it, I am well satisfied. Easy to set up as well. My sole small irritation stems from the manual, which could have been easier to read, but all in all an excellent buy.

  1. This TV has an unbelievable picture and is a steal at this price under $5000. This is a 2007 model and the 2008 version goes for $8000 as did this model last year

  2. We've just received the unit (safely intact) with no dead or stuck pixels. The TV immediately discovered my satellite and my PS3 (after using the first HDMI input). There is an "auto" HDMI port (Input 7) that didn't like the PS3, but I haven't read the manual to see what the auto label means. We tried both Hellboy and PotC: Dead Man's Chest and they look absolutely stunning.

The TV is immense! I'd suggest that you sit no closer than 8 feet or you will notice the pixels. The remote is easy to use and back-lit. The only negative that isn't really mentioned anywhere is that the TV uses HDMI 1.2a instead of the current 1.3x. However, nothing is available that takes advantage of the new HDMI standard and it will probably be many years before it will be widely used.

I've also read that it's not quite as "fast" even with its 120Hz/4 ms rating. Not being a serious audio/video person, I haven't noticed any difference between my old 42" Plasma and this LCD in terms of display speed, so I haven't seen any indication of this. I've also played a few PS3 games and didn't notice any refresh issues. By the way, if you think movies look incredible on this LCD, you really need to see a computer/console game. Amazing!

Overall, this is really an excellent deal and should not be missed. I was initially worried about purchasing such a large item over the Internet, but Amazon has always delivered without problems. If you were thinking about a large DLP to get that "movie experience", I'd really consider this LCD instead as it is brighter, clearer, easy to move, and takes up less room. So, buy it already!

  1. I love this TV! Reading these other reviews helped, as I was in the ever-lost world of looking at so many TVs. Also had the LCD vs. Plasma concern. My living room is small, so the 42" is too small, 50" too large. Just like Goldilocks, this one is just right! The black bezel finish looks great. The sound is pretty good, would prob be better with a home-audio system, but for movies, it is incredible as is. The HD channels are good. I don't see the reflection problem other Plasmas have. Can't wait to watch football on this, it is like sitting on the bench! Got mine at Best Buy and it was worth the $59 delivery fee. This is one great TV for the money! Of the models I researched, Panasonic, Pioneer, and Samsung seemed to be the top 3. My friend has the 50" and likes it as well.

  2. Panasonic Viera TH-46PZ85U 46-inch 1080p Plasma HDTV

The first day I set this TV up, I watched Dream Girls in HD on HBO from my cable company. I saw Dream Girls before - just after it was released on DVD, but I never experienced Dream Girls like I did the first night I watched it on the Panasonic Viera TH-46PZ85U 46-inch 1080p Plasma HDTV . The colors (especially reds) popped. The subtle shades of blacks and browns were (are) incredible. The picture was the clearest, brightest, most amazing I've ever seen on a TV. Since then, I continue to be blown away at the visible subtleties in the colors and crispness of the picture. Standard def DVD's upconverted to 1080i are very good (although a bit soft on the edges-not a fault of the TV). Regular TV (via Cable) is excellent. A video conference unit connected to the PC input on the TV displays a picture that is better than any I've experienced on other monitors.

I have an Apple TV connected to the 3rd HDMI port on the TV. This past week-end I rented the HD version of Sweeney Todd from the iTunes store. The picture was every bit as beautiful as Dream Girls HD, and seemed better, if that's even possible. The pairing of Apple TV with the Panasonic plasma is an unbeatable combination. However, I'm anxious for the next generation of Panasonic Blu-Ray DVD player so that I can see how this TV displays a true 1080p picture.

For sound, I have the TV connected to a Sony Home Theater System via optical cable from the TV to the Theater system and HDMI cable from the Theater system to the TV (for DVD playback). Interestingly, these two systems communicate with each other. Apparently Panasonic's Viera and Sony's Bravia systems of component communications are the same, or at least similar enough that they are compatible. Using the Panasonic remote control to turn on the Panasonic TV also turns on the Sony sound system. Setting the TV to TV mode, or DVD mode, or Cable/Sat mode causes the Sony to follow suit and set itself for correct playback. Volume on the Sony is controlled through the Panasonic TV remote. Turning off the TV also turns off the sound system.

Nice Job, Panasonic, Apple, and Sony!

  3. Delivery was prompt, right into the living room and opened to show it was perfect. Plays great, no problems at all. And we saved a lot of money compared to retail stores.

  4. This tv graced our family room the moment we set it up. It has great colors and is very sturdy even just on the stand it came with on top of a console. The picture quality is great.

  5. Like most everyone else I didn't take buying a new tv lightly, after all you're not talking about going to the local department store and grabbing something off the shelf for $300-$500 any more. Spending up to two grand on a tv makes you really want to get what you're paying for, and there are so many options in screen sizes, options, features and even the most basic decisons such as LDC or plasma that you'd better do some research to know what you're getting into.

I had been looking to replace our old 32" tv for a couple of months, but didn't find the perfect screen size until Panasonic came out with this particular 46" model. I knew I wanted plasma, I knew I wanted a good brand name and I knew I wanted to be able to take advantage of the features like HDMI outputs, optical outputs and various other controls so that I could easily add a home theater system later. Amazon had the best deal going at the time so I bought it, and the white glove delivery was just fine. I was happy to get it all for under $1,700 when it would have cost me at least $300+ more at any local retailer.

I haven't experienced any problems at all with the tv, it was in perfect shape right out of the box and instantly confirmed that I made a good decision with the 46". The picture on an HD channel is stunning in either 1080 or 720, and regular shows in 480 don't look as bad as I was lead to believe they'd be. The remote is very intuitive and easy to use. The sound from the tv speakers is fine, if a little flat and tinny, but I don't plan to use them much anyway. I've already received my Panasonic SC-PT960 Home Theater system and that should handle any complaints I have with the tv's speakers when I find the time to set it up. It's very easy to do, and with both the tv and the theater system having digital optical capability I'll be able to get the best sound possible from a HTiB.

If you're looking for a really good buy on a plasma, you want something bigger than a 42" and smaller than a 50", and you want a smooth transaction and professional delivery this set deserves your attention. I really don't think I could be any happier with something else.

  1. It is a nice TV/Monitor what ever your purpose be. But I got it with the intent of using it as a computer monitor. I was excited as I took it out of the box but that excitement soon dwindled as I sought to use my higher resolutions and the TV was not able to do so. I am a graphics student so I wanted to use this screen to get as much screen real-estate as possible but I was a bit disappointed in that department. The screen goes up to some higher resolutions but not past the 1200 mark. And I wanted to use it at 1800+. So, if you have the same intent buy another screen as I am doing or get a video to HDMI converter and see how that treats you. Aside from that the screen is nice. The speakers are okay but there are far better speakers on lower end screens. Just something to keep in mind. All in all it is a really nice screen and looks gorgeous. If i ever get a flat screen TV it will probably be this one. So you decide. Happy shopping :)

  2. I received my television faster then expected, and was very happy with the results. Picture quality is astounding through HDMI, like looking out a glass window. Although my DVD player has 720p output and the Sharp television can except as high as 1080p, I found transitioning my television to 720p left the image grainer than if I just left it at 480p. Of course, once I make the purchase of a Blue-ray player I doubt I'll find myself using anything less than 1080p, even if they say you can't tell the difference.
Sound quality is okay, it lacks a certain robust impression, you won't be feeling the explosions or anything, but the dialouge comes through and soundtracks eminate clearly enough.
Because I don't have HD cable or satellite, it was of no great concern to me when making the purchase that regular television would be my bread and butter in terms of it's use. I found images to be acceptable, and made of few adjustment to contrast and color till I was satisfied. All in all, this being my first HD television, so far so good.

  3. Well I Got this tv within 4 days of purchase i ordered it Sunday and got it Thursday it has great piture quality and vivid colors and it also works great as a pc monitor my video games look amazing and it was great investment for this tv so anyone looking for a good buy on a tv buy this one

  4. The set I received is a total lemon. It worked OK for about 10 days, and then various functions just stopped working, one after another.

I am returning the set to Amazon for a refund. I don't want a replacement and I don't want it fixed - I just don't trust any set that would cr@p out like this after only 10 days. I won't buy another Sharp set either.

When this happened, I looked on the Sharp website and they don't even list this model as being for sale anymore there. So maybe it's a discontinued item? Wish I had known that before I bought it from Amazon.

I've been an Amazon customer since about Day One and have always been pleased with their service and willingness to take back items that are defective.

I was not very pleased with the so-called "white glove" delivery service though, and I will have to send it back through the same freight people, so that's a drag. It would be much easier to send it back by UPS and the box is not too big, but Amazon says no, I have to wait to be contacted by the freight company again and then they will come back and get it.

I love Amazon and I love my UPS guy, but this "white glove" business I do not care for and I will never order anything from Amazon again that has to be delivered that way.

  5. Great color contrast! Great Picture! Brings the people on the screen right into my den! Probably will buy a larger version of the same TV, soon!

  1. This works beautifully. It doesn't pick up any channels by itself, but with an antennae, it rocks!

  2. This cheap little digital TV is lightweight and convenient, but as might be expected for the price there are no bells and whistles. It's digital but not HD. It offers two viewing resolutions (16:9 and 4:3), but because it's not HD, 4:3 generally looks better (though considerably smaller than 16:9, of course). Closed captioning is miniscule. Audio is loud enough, but a bit tinny.

5 comments about Sony Bravia M-Series KDL-26M4000 26-Inch 720p LCD HDTV.
  1. I just bought this model, and I also own a Sony 40" S model. I was tempted to get Sony's S model in this size, but the M is a newer model, and $50-$80 cheaper. Picture quality is, overall, equal to my larger set, (though fleshtones are more natural on the "S") which cost twice as much. However, I was surprised that it does not come with the stand attached. Not a big deal, but I've never seen this practice before. Also, unlike the S series classy flat black matte finish, this M model has the "Samsungy" glossy piano black finish. Again, not a big deal..but still. Anyway, despite all my nitpicking, it is the picture that really matters, and in that area, this set delivers in Sony tradition..excellent. For the money, a great set, a great value, but it will remind you it is entry level, something the S models did not do...of course, Sony's least, is still better than it's competitors best.

  2. After having the set for 10 days the set went blank and Standby light flashed 2 times in sequence. Called Sony Tech Support and it was decided that a repair would be necessary. Checked online for comments on this type of failure and found it was a problem with the circuit board and that LCD TV's have this problem although not sure how common. I decided to return the set for a replacement rather than a repair. In the past I have avoided buying extended warranties but now are wondering if it might be a good idea for LCD TV's.

  3. I had been researching lcd tv's for quite a while (months). I had narrowed it down to Samsung, Sony, Panasonic, and Sharp. What finally pushed me over into the Sony M-4000 corner is that it has a 178 degree vertical and horizontal viewing range, decent contrast, and the Sony Bravia Engine 2.

The tv is connected to basic cable and I have found the ghosting to be minimal and the hd stations are satisfying to watch.

PC input is excellent...dual monitors is new for me, and it's great for watching online shows, esp. when having pc audio linked to the tv.

The speakers work for me, our tv viewing is limited to when our son is asleep, so no need for thunderous booms, etc.

All in all, it has the features I thought important at a reasonable price. Channel switching is fast; the most often used functions are a button away. I'm content.

  4. I use this TV mostly as a computer monitor. It makes sense (if you are not a gamer) because price tag of this item is almost the same as most 26" lcd monitors but TV has nice features: you may see tv channels in small window (PIP) while you work on PC applications, much higher contrast ratio, and quality of picture is really nice, and very good sound.
Plus you have HD channels and plenty input options comparing to PC monitor. Also USB service connector is a good option to update firmware if needed. Unfortunaly, USB port can be used to display pictures from memory stick.
Cons: bulky design, bezel is too wide, it makes it 26.5" wide instead of 24" top as most monitors. Adjustable stand could be nice addition too. Remote is not lightened.

  5. I just bought this TV and am very happy with my decision. The picture is sharp and contrasty (though component input isn't perfect), sound quality is OK and features are more than plenty for my purpose. I especially like the selection of inputs and the ability to relay audio out to my stereo. But the clincher for me was the viewing angle: It is much better than the Samsung 26A450, which is the main competitor in terms of image quality (face-on the Samsung seems a little better). We have the TV set on a shelf, higher than the seating position, and there is literally no difference in picture for a large range in vertical (and horizontal) viewing angles. There is no discernible color shift or shadow loss, both of which are clearly visible for most of the competition. This suggests to me that this TV is using a high quality S-IPS panel, though it might be hard to believe at this price point.

  1. I'm not an audio or video expert, just your average joe who appreciates a great television experience. I've been pining for an HDTV for several years, tried to be patient until the quality increased and the prices decreased. This year I started doing some research and settled on this particular TV. I was astounded by the price difference between Amazon and the box stores, but was hesitant to make such a serious purchase over the internet, but it was simply an offer I couldn't refuse. I placed the order on a Monday morning, received a call on Friday afternoon that the TV was ready to be delivered, and it came on Saturday morning. The delivery guys brought it in and opened it up. A friend and I bolted it to the stand, plugged it in and connected the cable. Nothing to it.

I was amazed at the quality with just the regular cable signal. It would be a few days before the cable company could bring an HD box, but man, when we got that connected -- I ordered an HDMI cable at the same time so they brought me an HDMI HD converter -- and it was love at first view! The cable guy said he does this all day long and he didn't think he'd seen a better picture. I subscribe to all the premium movie channels and sports channels, so all of that in HD is just overwhelming. At times, it honestly looks like a 3D image.

I'm toying with the idea of one of these upconverting DVD players. A clerk at Radio Shack told me he got one and that it did make quite a difference in picture quality with an HDTV and an HDMI connection, so at some point I may spring for that while waiting for the BluRay players to come down in price.

Anyway, I couldn't be more pleased with the product and the service and price from Amazon.

If you're in the market for a plasma TV, definitely give this one a look!

  2. I ordered this TV 1 week ago today and am already watching it. I am 100% satisfied with the delivery service, the TV, and its price! I had to make one phone call to the 888 # given while setting it up. The woman I talked to at that # was extremely knowledgeable and my problem was taken care of in 5 minutes. I would recommend this TV at this price to anyone I know.

  3. Excellent product. Very happy with it in every way. Stable stand - no need to purchase a separate stand.

  4. I have always been very reluctant about plasma tvs but after reading about and reserching the newest models from Panasonic and the upgraded technology I became a believer. The picture on this tv is really incredible. Great contrast and color with amazing blacks. Love the game mode which now enables you to to safely play your video games. With the anti image retention setting I feel much safer about the chance of screen burn. The new antireflective screen does a great job cutting down the amount of glare and relection. The only thing I am not crazy about is the sound quality. I find it to be on the weak side but it is not a big issue since I have the TV hooked up to my stereo system. All in all I highy recommend this set for its quality and performance.

  5. After months of research, going to stores and scouring the internet I settled for the Panasonic TH-50PZ80U. This TV is one of the less expensive 50" Plasmas but has great picture and the HD channels are very clear. It has great reviews and in the week I have had the TV the reviews are justified. I chose it over the TH-50PZ85U because it seems the only difference between the two is a little higher contrast ratio and that the 85U has a PC input and my PC has an HDMI output so I didn't need a PC input so it wasn't worth an extra $200 for me.

Just a few issues. The regular channels do not fare as well but that could well be just in comparison to the HD channels. There is only one composite video input in the back which I use to plug in my old (non up-converting) DVD player which means I have to plug my PS2 in the front. Not that big a deal since I will get a new DVD player with HDMI soon. Also the TV is on a fixed base and it would have been nice to be able to tilt it a little due to the height of my TV table.

Amazon had the TV cheaper than anywhere else. I ordered the TV on Sunday and they delivered it on Thursday via CEVA. They took it out of the box but I expected them to set the TV up on the stand and plug it in but they did not do that. Still, for the price it wasn't a big deal since Best Buy would have been at least $200 more plus tax plus $60 delivery.
