  1. This is the first HDTV that I ever bought and glad that I did. The unique red color is an attention grabber and goes well with red oak furniture. So far(1 week after purchase,) there aren't any flaws with it. HDTV programs look outstanding and show great detail(I can actually see freckles on Conan O'Brien's hands, which is something I couldn't see with traditional TVs.)

I also play XBOX 360/PS3 with this HDTV. It has 2 HDMI slots, which gives you convenience of always having video game console plugged in and then quickly switching to TV without fumbling with wiring. Also, because its 720p and not 1080i, video games run smoother(although the difference is negligible.) At the time when I am writing this review, most video games look better on 720.

Bottom Line: You can't get a much better HDTV for a smaller room, in accordance with other reviews on other TVs and my experience so far.

  1. This TV's remote & controls are not user friendly at all - the Cox cable remote cannot be programmed to operate the TV. Confirmed this with both Cox & ViewSonic. Kind of a pain to have to use 2 remotes for all operations. Minor annoyance - sleep timer only goes to max of 60 minutes, closed caption cannot be set to engage when mute button is depressed. Display on screen showing channel is *very tiny*, and is a fluorescent green color that is pretty impossible to see unles it's on a black background. Buttons on remote are also very small

Overall since the picture is great I'll be OK with this unit, but if I'd known then what I know now I think I'd have spent a few more $$ to get something more convenient that would have a good display even from an analog signal.

  2. This tv has died 2x in the last year. I have had to spend 50 each time to ship it in for repair. I do NOT recommend this model at all!

  1. This is a very good small TV. HD looks crisp, sd cable looks about as good as you can hope for. My only problem is that this TV is identical to the LC19sb25u. The only difference is that this one comes with a different stand that has a spot to rest the kitchen timer/clock with simple remote functions. It is a very good timer, and we do find it convenient to have the buttons on the front instead of side, but you can save $30 to $55 if you get the one without.

On a side note, this TV (and no doubt other TVs that can decode QAM signals) was able to get all the regular analog cable channels AND the local HD channels that our cable provider offers over the same cable. I would definitely suggest having the TV automatically find all digital and analog channels, you never know what you might get. This saved us from using an A/B switch with a OTA antenna to get some HD use out of the TV.

  1. I bought this LCD TV hoping to hookup to my laptop, purchased the cable that was in the instruction manual and it didn't work. Screen resolution was OK, I've seen better now. This is old school LCD TV, so I returned it when the unit could not hookup to my laptop.

  2. This in not a great product sepcially the remote control is very
flimsy, the battery holder has some free room so that it create
loose or no contact, I try to fix it but I am not sure how long
it will last. This is the product quality control problem, another
thing is viewing angle is very limit.and lastly is
the color is flat. I do hope the PHILIPS will look into it!

  3. I bought this tv a year ago, and it works pretty well as a tv, but I cannot get it to work with my computer, which was one of the selling points. I have tried several cables and all possible menu setting combinations; it just won't work. As a tv, the picture and sound are quite good. The remote is not easy to use, and its battery life is especially short, plus it takes expensive little batteries.

  4. I bought this little TV 1-1/2 years ago. I had no problems with it and was quite happy. . . Until I came home this evening and - voila! - no picture. Sound is fine but screen is black. It was around $400 which isn't a fortune, but I certainly expect more life than that. I'm sure that trying to get it repaired is not worth my time, money or aggravation. Believe me, I will never, ever buy a Philips product again!!

  5. The TV works fine, but the remote didn't work from day 1. I called Philips

    * they made me copy and fax my receipt
    * wait two weeks for a confirm number
    * package the remote and mail it back at my expense ($8).
    * I still don't have a remote - 2 months after purchase.

Update - 6 weeks after mailing in my broken remote (that was broken when it came out of the box) - I rec'd the same broken remote mailed back to me today. I jumped through every hoop imaginable and they just mailed it back. Avoid Philips at all cost.

  1. Other then the fact this TV is 160 pound range there is absolutely nothing I can complain about with this TV. The picture quality is excellent. What really made this TV was the Game Mode feature for me. Trying to play Guitar hero 3 for my Wii was challenging before turning on Game Mode; because of the TV trying to upconvert to 1080p.

For 47" LCD at 1300$ shipped is a price range that cant really be touched by most other TV's at the moment.

  2. Don't buy a Syntax Olevia! I bought one and it died almost to the day the warranty went out. Customer service said I would have to pay to ship it back and pay the parts and labor to fix it and that would cost over half of the TV's cost. They wouldn't offer to help with anything and they said they lost my registration card, the same one they used to call me with to ask me how I liked it a week after I bought the TV. So all I can do is to post this to every blog I can to try to inform others.

  3. I had read the reviews and had one of Olevia's computer monitors and so was well aware of the brand.

The set is huge, has great contrast, color, incredible sharpness and very goodsound. I plugged in a powered subwoofer and it felt likeI was in a theatre.

The set is very heavy. They put a thick piece of glass in front of the LCD panel. Makes cleaning much safer and easier than most LCD TVs. Makes it eay to clean and looking sharp, but it does add a lot of weight.

Don't be afraid that it is not a "brand name".

Save yourself several nundred dollars and get a set that no one can claim that their's is better.

  4. This TV is everything it was advertised to be. The picture and features are every bit as good as my neighbors new Sony at half the cost. The only negative is the remote, which is a little hard to navigate, but this is a small negative.

  5. This television has great clarity, deep beautiful black colors like during movies, and amazing clarity.

I enjoy using this TV with my laptop where I play Call of Duty 4 using 47 inches of viewing space. It is simply amazing. The only negative things I can think of that I experienced were that it has trouble when I change the source sometimes. As in, the TV will seemingly stop responding. But that is honestly it. And maybe the weight of the TV.

Everything else is great, from the clarity of the picture which is what matters to me to the menus.

  1. Setup was fairly easy. We use it in the kitchen. You must rotate the stand to rotate the TV ... a slight disadvantage in this environment. The picture is fine, but the sound is strangely inadequate. We have to keep it a the max setting all the time.

  2. The picture quality is great on HD, but the sound is only fair. The audio comes out of small speakers pointed down out the bottom. The result is a "tin" sound. The volume has to be turned up fairly loud to hear it. The only audio out is via optical cable, so to hook it up to an external speaker would require an AV receiver. I don't want to do this since I bought the TV for the kitchen and I want to minimize the space. So everything is a tradeoff. I got a reasonbly decent picture and compromised on sound and got an HDTV that doesn't take much space at all.

The small kitchen remote is neat the way it fits in the small indentation of the base. Its very convenient for turning it on and off and volume controls. You can also channel up and down, but that is a tedious way to find your channel. For that they have the regular remote which we leave on the table. Two remotes is nice. The full size remote allows you to program up to four favorite channels--also a nice feature.

One last feature on the picture. The full size remote allows you to cycle through 4 preset AV modes such as movie, game, user defined, and dynamic. While this is nice, I haven't found one setting that seems to be best for all my viewing. Some shows are too dark on one setting, so I have to change it to another, then change it back for another show.

I wanted a 19" HDTV capable of receiving up to 1080i. This will compress the signal to 760, but at least it can handle it. This and a Toshiba model were the only ones I found that I thought could do it.

  3. This TV is the perfect size for our kitchen. We love the clear, bright HD picure. It's great for watching basketball while we fix dinner.

  4. Buying this TV was a nightmare! I ordered this TV and the vendor (not amazon.com) that sold it to me sent me a DIFFERENT TV! Hoping I would be stupid enough not to notice! I reviewed the other TV he sent me and after alot of thought decided to keep it (was running out of time to get a TV for my parents for Xmas) and when we opened it and turned it on, the volume was defective! I returned it to the vendor and he said I would get credit minus shipping and restocking! I told him it was defective and he said it was not! I told him to plug it in himself and see! I am sure he knew it was and bought it at a discount and then tryed to sell it to me hoping I would not notice! WHAT A CROOK! I was lucky that amazon.com credit card did take care of the shipping and restocking for me, but I told Amazon.com that the vendor that sold it to me was a crook!!!! I think the Sharp Aquos is a good TV, but I never got to see it! So beware of what you actually get vs what you order!
