  1. i bought this television about six months ago when the price suddenly dropped from $699 as it listed now to $499. I had planned on buying the vizio brand 32in LCD but when the haier price came down to $499 I couldn't pass up the deal. Yes, it is a chinese brand which I am sure would scare a lot of buyers off, but for what I paid, this television is almost a steal. Its a 720p resolution but at the 32in size you can't tell the difference and the picture is still very good even with regular cable. I have a PS3 hooked up through the HDMI and the picture is amazing for both PS3 games and blu-ray discs. Its also a bit sleeker looking than the vizio which has the awkward silver speaker at the bottom. My only complaint would be that the remote it comes with is not always very responsive. Once you figure out a good place for it to work, it is fine though. I just sit in the same place on the couch and it is good. Overall, if you are looking at brands like vizio or olevia and can get this tv at the price I did, I would go for it.

  2. This item was purchased as a Christmas gift. The first one out of the box did not work. This was returned to the store -- the second one lasted 2 months. Another family member also purchased this TV and they too have been having problems.

Customer service is horrible -- long on-hold times, don't get the same answer from 2 different people, cannot find local service/repair person (and we live in a large city).

    Stay away from this brand.

  1. I just returned from Korea where I saw this display in an airport store. The screen is deceivingly small, the eleven inches looking even less generous than it sounds. It is wider than your average wide screen tv available, only half as tall as it is wide (about 5 inches - 5.5 according to this site.)

However, the picture looked amazing. I was caught by this before I knew I was looking at OLED - the faces on the display were the most realistic I have ever seen, on any kind of monitor. The quality was equivalent to a printed photograph. Looking closely I could still spot the pixels, the same size as any good quality lcd monitor. So I give credit mostly to the contrast ratio, in addition to the fact they were playing a blue ray from a ps3.

Anyway, 2500 is too much right now, I think you need to see it in person before you buy. I would dock a star for that, but I just can't be that harsh on this new technology - it really is the next big thing.

  2. i have been using this set for 6 months with a modified "code free" pioneer
dv-400v upscaling dvd player.(do not own any blu-ray or hd player yet.)picture on the xel-1 is so good im not feeling deprived. miner
issues:the screen is highly reflective and will need to be positioned so you arent viewing your own reflection, etc. also, the packaging for this set is quite complex,so if you buy online, you wont be casually shipping this back if you encounter problems. i am nearsighted, and this is an ideal set to watch without my glasses, which is important when using a headphone based audio setup.

  1. The sound of this TV is simply weak.

Analog and Digital picture selection is separat. You do not get the channels in sequence but you must enter the analog or digital channel manually by number. Digital broadcast is 95% in 4:3 format but the channels are standard displayed as Stretched which turns all people into fat dwarfs. The remote has to be clicked 2 twice for correction.

  2. This TV has great clarity and works well in a bright area, works great for both a TV and as a monitor for the kitchen PC.

  1. I purchased one from Amazon. When it was delivered and installed, I realized that it was a refurbished with a big stamp on the user manual and red ink to cross out the serial number at the back of the TV. The front black frame was falling off. I wanted Amazon to replace it with a new one. Amazon customer service agreed that what was advertised should be new TV. But, they were not able to find a new one so I was offered a refund. The problem is that I need to call Dish HD to cancel HD installation (if possible, etc.) and take another day off to wait for the pick up.

Do not buy this TV from Amazon unless you like used plasma TV.

  2. I'm an extremely dissatisfied customer of Philips and I own the Ambilight model (50PF9630A/37). Well, I kind of own it. I pay for it while it sits in the service center. I had it for 7 months prior to the recall of almost 12,000 Philips TVs with certain Ambilight parts in them. A technician came to my home to replace the faulty parts three and a half months ago and it's been in the shop since that day. I have been on the phone with Philips over and over throughout this ordeal while they've sent part after part after part to the service center, in failed attempts to get my television working again. Their customer service is horrible and they are adamant that they are going to do everything they possibly can to avoid replacing the unit, no matter how long it takes. I have been told multiple times by their "customer service" reps that there is NO TIMEFRAME in which they must complete a repair before finally deeming the unit unrepairable AND to top it off, my warranty will still expire at the date of purchase, even if they still have it in their possession at that time. Basically, if they keep it for two and a half more months and get it working long enough for them to drop it off at my house, I'm on my own. I'm not a plasma expert by any means, but I hope this helps you and anyone else that reads this in making an informed decision on atleast which brand NOT to buy.

  3. I own the 50" Ambilight and it has turned out to be a fantastic TV. At first, my wife and I were a bit skeptical that the ambilight was just a gimic, but we went ahead with the purchase. As it turns out we both LOVE the ambilight feature. It really adds a level of depth to movies that you have to see to believe. The picture quality is fantastic as well.

I too was a victim of the recall. There was a problem with the shieling around the ambilight bulbs which had caused problems in a few TVs. It was extremely easy to schedule an apppointment through Philips, and within a week a technician came to my house and fixed the issue. It was a 30 minute appointment. Not sure what happened with the fellow whose review is below this one.

    I'm extremely satisfied.

  4. Unfortunately there are people rating and reviewing this model and other Philips sets that they don't even own, or have ever seen. You will see some examples of this if you read the other reviews on this set. They may have had bad luck with one Philips TV or product so I guess they think its ok to just click on any old model and give it a poor rating. I have two 50" Philips plasmas and two of there DVD players and I am extremely happy with all of them.

  1. PROS:

A Great looking TV for a first time HDTV buyer who is looking for a reasonably priced TV but doesn't want the quality of the TV to suffer. The picture quality rivals that of more expensive brands of TVs such as Sony, Samsung, etc. Easy to navigate menus don't scare away the buyer who isn't familiar with tuning their TV. Easy to read hookups in the back eliminate any confusion when setting up your tv. This TV is also a great computer monitor as it supports a HDMI to DVI hookup.

    CONS:
The sound quality and level of this TV is the largest setback to it. You'll find yourself consatnly fighting with the volume level of the TV to find the best sound for whatever it is that your watching. This can be remedied by purchasing yourself a hometheater system if you have the extra cash.

  2. I work at Sears as a TV salesmen and im a college student. So I know a few things about televisions. I am one of the better part time salesmen in our store but anyways.

Being a college student, I didn't have alot of money to throw around. Im 18 years old and wanted an HDTV to play my Xbox 360 on. All I have to say is I made the right decision.

Being around TVs for 6 to 8 hours straight can get annoying but it does give you alot of time to look at each set and see the differences in quality and price.

The best two looking television in the 32 range LCD are obviously the Sony Bravia KDL-32S3000 32" 720p LCD HDTV sets or the Samsungs. Yes they do look better but they by no means look $400 better than the Vizio. So weighing out all my options and wanted to stay under the $700 range it was either the Vizio, Sylvania, or the Olevia. This was the no brainer of the year. The Vizio looks so much better than both these sets and the worst thing is the Vizio is cheaper than the Sylvania.

I also got a great deal on it. For one the signing manager was told to put the old display Vizio on closeout and a new one in its place. I was like I wanna buy this TV tonite so he put the new one outta the box on closeout and left the old one there. So I got a 629 dollar Tv for about 500 plus my associate discount.

Once I brought the TV home I was immediatly satisfied. Going from a 13 inch SDTV (although it was LCD) to a 32 inch HD TV was incredible. After tweakings of the settings my 360 games looked just as good as they do on my uncles Samsung. This shows that if you are technically able you can spend far less on a TV and with some setting adjustments make it look like a 1000 dollar set.

There are some reasons I gave this TV a four though. For one the sound isn't very good. I use a surround sound system by Yamaha that was about the smae price of the TV haha. If you don't have a surround sound I do suggest you turn off the Simulated surround sound in the menu. It waill make the TV sound a little better. The only other negative with hte television are in dark movie scenes they tend to look a little muddy. Not horrible but not as good as they should.

All in all at 599-629 (500 with tax for me ;) ) dollars this is a great Televison set. I do suggest if yuou buy this at least buy the 300 dollar Yamaha home theatre system with an included reciever. Yamaha YHT-380BL Home Theater in a Box (Black).

  3. I have owned this TV for about 9 months now and it is great. Very nice picture with Digital Cable and the HD channels looks amazing. I bought this from costco and paid around 650 for last thanksgiving. My parents have a high end Panasonic plazma and this was considerably cheaper but the picture and quality is only a little less, very good value. I would buy again from Vizio.

  4. Purchased this VIZIO 32" LCD/HDTV from an independent dealer on March 19, 2008,and was blown away. Setup was quick and simple. Less than quality picture on regular analog sdtv, but viewable. Looking forward to upgrading to HD cable. Once I hooked it to my pS2 and toshiba HD DVD player on the 1080i setting, the picture and sound was totally awesome. Receive a few on the air HD channels;reception great! My regular DVD videos are crisp and clear. Absolutely recommend to anyone who's in the market for an lcd hdtv of this magnitude: great new name, product and value. Will defintely buy VIZIO again!

  5. After alot of research and waiting for deals on tvs. I found this tv in a great online deal, I read some reviews some good and some bad. It was $415 w/ free shipping so I had to jump on the deal! Its a great tv of course its not the best quality but for the price, its amazing. I bought it refurbished so it does have 2 dead pixels, but you literally can't even notice it unless your a couple of inches away from the screen, and I pointed it out. If you don't have cable, you can buy an HDTV antenna and pick up your local channels in HD as well as alot of new channels, I picked up about 25 new channels when I bought my HDTV antenna.

Its awesome watching HD movies in Blu-ray with my PS3 and playing games as well. The sound is normal, if your getting an HDTV you should probably also invest in a sound system as well though. I love that it has PIP and also you can alternate the audio from the PIP from the main screen and the PIP screen, its a neat little feature.

I read a couple reviews a while back that said the tv died after 6 months, which was almost enough for me to not buy this tv. Well I did and its been one of the best purchases I've made, and I definitely enjoy this TV better then my old 32" crt, which took alot of space and added alot of heat to my room, not to mention they use more electricity as well.

Well despite those reviews I bought this tv, and I have had it since June of 2006. Its been 1 year and 3½ months and I don't regret buying this tv at all. I love this tv. Like one of the other reviewers said, Don't pay over $600 for this TV. At that price you can buy something a bit better. But don't be put off by Vizio just because they are not name brand.

PS: The remote is pretty good too and doesn't use too much battery, Im still using the original batteries that came with the TV.
