  1. Does anyone know if this TV has the same HDMI compatability problem when connecting a Dierctv HD receiver as the Philips 42PFL7422D 42" 1080p LCD HDTV? Several of the reviewers of that TV said they had to use the composite video connection to work with the Directv or Dish network HD boxes. Other than the ambilight feature, these two TVs appear to tbe the same, but no one mentioned a problem with this model. Thanks

  2. This is a great tv. Picture if fantastic and the hd is sharp!! Sound is great. Love it!!

  3. I bought a Philips 42" Ambilight last month and it has exceeded my expectations. This is a great product, and the Ambilight feature makes the screen size seem larger and eliminates eye strain. The picture is sharp, clear, and has great color. Setup was very easy. I'd recommend this TV to anyone.

  4. I purchased this Phillips 42PFL7432D 42 " and I am very pleased. I don't know enough about what it can even do to rate it higher. I found it easy to use and I like the picture and and the ambilight. It has been a pleasure. I have to say I haven't hooked it up to HD yet and am just using a regular DVD player but I think it looks great. I'm sure when I finally get that together it will be so much more, but currently it is much better than what I had before

  5. If you are in the market for a new LCD screen TV then the Philips Ambilight might be something worth considering. The TV is a excellent one that compares very favorably to comparably sized LCD screens. Overall setup of the TV is very straight forward and and the image setup process when you turn it on is very helpful.

The Ambilight system is a little bit gimmicky but when used to watch films in the dark is is effective. It does wonders to reduce the eye strain one would receive if you want to watch movies in pitch dark. Color levels of the screen are very good as well, but black levels are not the best. The black levels are improved when watching in a dark setting however as the scree will automatically adjust the brightness appropriately to how dark the room is.

The TV has excellent HDMI support with three inputs but unfortunately does not offer cable card support. Be aware of that. The only other drawback to the set is that the the naming options for your video inputs are stuck to only a set of predefined labels. You cannot label them yourself and if you have multiple devices that are the same, such as two video game systems or something unique such as an Apple TV hooked up you cannot label the inputs as such.

  1. The firmware fix available on the company website changes everything. I enjoyed the T.V. which I bought as a refurb during the 3 month trial period. It only had the occasional lip sync. However, after the 3 month trial ended the T.V. audio problems worsened and I was worried I was duped. However, I found the review that mentioned the firmware update and its been nearly 2 weeks and the firmware update has removed all audio issues I have had with the T.V. The instructions on the Westinghouse website are easy to follow but fail to mention that the type of flash drive used may result in your T.V. not registering the update. I had to use 3 different flash drives before it finally registered the update. Other than that the T.V. is great with amazing video quality and well worth the price!!!!

  2. In our search for a replacement tv for the guest room, we found this dog at the local Sam's Club. This was our first and last purchase of anything with the Westinghouse logo on it. Once plugged in the color kept switching from orange to purple with a touch of green. The audio could not be heard over the sound of excess humming. Westinghouse customer support offered several suggestions. None of which worked. Finally, a different tech told me what I already knew. The company has had numerous problems with the unit. After exhausting all avenues we immediately re-packed this poor excuse for electronics and carried it back to the store for a refund. Lesson learned.

  3. Westinghouse SK-26H520S 26-inch LCD HDTV
This is my 3rd HDTV and I've owned a Samsung and a Vizio branded LCD TV.
I decided to downsize since 32" was a little too big for the bedroom and this fit the bill.
I had to do some color calibrations since the out of the box picture wasn't all that great. I also had to re-do the calibrations since the firmware update is a MUST to clear off the SD audio/video lag. Not sure what audio issues some users are experiencing because I hear no buzzing with mine. No dead pixels either but usually that's a function of the (un)luck of the draw.
TV could've used more silver highlights around the casing or make the bezel shinier to make it look more appealing. The picture does speak for itself however. Pretty great value for the price that's for sure. Big pros are lots of connectivity options and a pretty good TV tuner.
My main complaint is that it's not as bright as the other 2 TV's that I've owned.

  4. I was initially scared off by a lot of the negative reviews here. However, one or two people said the sound problems were fixed by the new firmware so I took a chance when I saw a refurbished version of this TV on another site for a ridiculously low price. I'm thrilled that I bought it. When the TV first arrived I entered the serial number on the Westinghouse site and got the firmware fix. The TV did nothing when I tried to install the fix via USB drive. I called the Westinghouse customer service number. It picked up in under two minutes and a knowledgeable American customer service rep told me that it had it meant that my model had probably already been upgraded. When I began using the TV I was blown away. I already have a 46 inch Samsung and I have to say that the picture quality on this set is equal or maybe better than the much more expensive Samsung. I have no audio problems. No lip-sync problem. No hum. I have been watching the TV for 3 days and I think it is just great. The only minor problem I can find is that the volume is a bit low for DVD's when I hook the player up with standard RCA cables. I plan on trying an HDMI cable and I wonder if that will help. All in all, do yourself a favor and buy this set. You won't regret it.

  5. We received this TV as a gift in April & love it! It's got great color, sound & lots of plugins for games/dvd's etc.

We've been very happy so far!

  1. The TV was great for the first 8 month, until in the past 2 weeks a lots of blues dots star in the top of my screen, I dont think that you pay for a HD TV with 42 " and be happy with that kind of fails. I was reading a lot of review in the web and this is an error from the manufacture. but the coustumer service is very poor, I dont know if I will buy another.

  2. I love this TV! I own two 50", and one 42"...I was trying to order another 42". What I absolutely HATE is this company. Amazon claims there's a glitch in their system which won't allow me to leave feedback for this company, so this is my only means of doing so. Here's the story:

First, understand that my wife and I have been Amazon customers for over 2 years.

After 15 days of waiting, 9 phone calls to LCDMART, and 3 phone calls to Amazon, I finally cancelled the order for my plasma screen through Amazon.

The SAME day I cancelled the order, I FINALLY received a call from LCDMART and the representative told me that I'd receive my TV within 3 business days, and that he was emailing me a tracking number. He claimed that Amazon takes 10 business days to submit orders to his company...from experience, I find that very hard to believe. I waited until the following day, and not having received my tracking number, I called yet again, and was told by John at LCDMART that he was emailing me a tracking number immediately. I did not receive it, so I called YET AGAIN, and was told that I would not receive a tracking number until the following day. I asked "How can I receive the TV by tomorrow if you don't have a tracking number today?" I then asked when I would receive the TV. I was told, "I don't know."

I asked to cancel my order, and the representative for LCDMART said, "No. I can't cancel your order." I repeat, he said, "NO!"

After a few choice words, and my persistent demand that my order be cancelled, he put me on hold, then told me my order was cancelled.

This company is doing Amazon a great disservice, and is damaging its reputation. LCDMART did not return a single phone message, or email inquiry.

I'm sure LCDMART will find some reason to make me look like an unreasonable customer, but read the reviews...I'm not the first to experience this, and this "feedback bug" appears to have been in effect since 5/2007, so NO feedback, negative or positive, has been submitted to this company since then.

Buy the product, you'll be happy. Just don't use LCDMART.

  3. Bought this TV and loved it at first. About 3 months after purchase It developed a hum in the audio on the component connections. Called Samsung and they sent someone out who took the TV away and repaired it. Came back and had it now had a hum on the output side (going to the receiver) and 4 months later it also developed a problem with the screen (blue spot on the bottom left hand side). Called Samsung again. They sent out yet another (non Samsung Authorized repair center). They've had the TV now for over 15 days and no update from them. My advice to you is don't count on Samsung repair. They are worthless. Also, it should be known that this TV does not support variable output on the sound so you'll always have to adjust at the receiver (just a note). If the TV worked correctly, I'd probably give it a better review. It is nice, but if you have problems at all, you'll be in trouble. Buyer beware!!! Samsung will not take care of you if you have problems!!!!

  4. I bought this TV on 10/31/2006. It's been one year. I have had absolutely no problems whatsoever. I've noticed a few people's comments about a blue pixel showing up on the screen..I have not had this problem.I did have my screen professionally wall-mounted.But, I don't think the professional installation has had anything to do with long-term quality.I originally paid $1599.00 for this TV from a big-box store. I can't believe the price is around $950-$999. There may be newer versions with supposedly better features, BUT, for the price, this TV is great! The reason I bought this TV was that 2 guys who worked in the store personally owned this unit. I figured they must know what they are doing. Some have commented about the buzzing noise when the volume is turned up--I keep the volume on zero and feed it through a stereo system so I have never had the humming/buzzing problem people are talking about. However, I have turned off my stereo and used the volume built into the TV and did notice a humming sound. If you are considering buying this TV but do not plan to hook it up to a home stereo of some sort..you might want to reconsider buying this unit. But, if you plan to use your stereo volume---then no problem. I guess the humming could be considered a drawback.
One interesting anecdote about this unit. It will definately induce envy from your friends and family. One of the selling points of this TV,to me, was it's piano-black-finish edges. This gives it the look of the expensive Pioneer Elite TVs. I don't personally like flat screen TVs with the greyish borders--they tend to look plastic and cheap. This TV looks expensive! It's a show-stopper if you wall mount it like I have, very clean and neat looking.
Overall I want to state that I have no specific allegiance to Samsung. I am not a Samsung employee. I do not own Samsung stock. I used to think of Samsung as a low to mid quality Korean electronics maker. If you had told me 5 years ago I would be paying $1599.00 for ANYTHING Samsung..I would have told you, you were crazy! Overall, I have been very satisfied. I would not hesitate to recommend this TV, especially for the price as it stands today.

  5. the blue "dots" appear. I've had this about a year-and-a-half and the entire left side of the screen becomes a blue smimmer of varying translucency after about 1-2 hours of use. This has started to spread to the middle and top of the screen and is ruining the experience of watching anything. Anyone have any advice? Samsung customer service said they never heard of this, but it seems that I'm not the only one with this problem (and no more warranty). YIKES!

  1. Pro:
Sharp picture, even over component video - good color response, compares well to other TVs of similar price and size
    HDMI input
Very attractive stainless steel case (even the stand is stylish)
    Slim, stylish remote

    Con:
Remote not universal - too bad because the remote is otherwise really nice
No built in OTA tuner - not a big minus, but worth knowing

This is a good TV for a kitchen (especially if the other appliances are stainless) or a bedroom. Works exactly as advertized - good picture, nice packaging, no frivilous extras. Basic universal remote functionality would make this a five star review.

  2. This is a great buy. If you are looking for a bedroom TV or a really nice kitchen tv, or even for LAN parties...(it has a cool handle) this is the TV. IT is $200 cheaper then at Best Buy. HDMI and component video inputs...and doubles as a PC monitor. I know TV's.--I have 6 of them :)

  3. Though I'm tempted to give it a 4.5, this set is good but not great compared to the latest REGZA displays that Toshiba produces. The better panels seem to have slightly better contrast ratios and better panel response times. However, most of this makes little difference for our usage.

FIrst and foremost, this is designed for kitchen use; it has the same stainless-steel finish as many high-end kitchen appliances and fits into our kitchen/breakfast room quite well. It's stylish and cleanly designed, with few frills and smooth surfaces.

It is also well thought out regarding the rear panel. Though it's a bit difficult to remove and insert -- and also a little more fragile than I'd like -- there is a rear cover that hides the connections for power and cable TV. To make this work properly it's important to sit down, place the TV face down (on a soft surface, of course) in front of you (I used my lap), and perform the "operation" there. This makes it far easier to remove the panel, install your cables and connectors, and reinstall the rear cover. Though it's a little finicky the finished product is very nice in a kitchen like ours, where it's easy to see the back of the set.

Picture quality is very good for this price range. I've only used it with regular cable so far; no doubt the picture would be improved by connecting to a digital cable or satellite source.

All in all, I highly recommend this set IF you need something for kitchen use or you just like the styling of this unit.

  4. Good looking TV, good picture, easy to mount. Too bad the remote is not a universal style. It will not control the cable box or dvd, so I am using the cable box remote. I did have some initial trouble getting some of the HD channels to work when using an hdmi cable, but I am not sure if that was more of a problem with the cable box. Anyway the problem sorted itself out and is now working fine.

  5. The tv is awesome. The picture is incredible and the tv has many features. The only thing I would have like to have seen better is the PIP function. It is a bit limited -- it can only show the analog signal. There is also no easy swap or split creen finction like I have on my other big screed hdtv. Other than that, it is a great tv, especially for the price on Amazon.

On the other hand, Amazon's "white glove" delivery service left a lot to be desired. My shipment came through Eagle Global Shipping. I had seen several complaints from other buyers about Eagle, so I kept close tabs on the status of my shipment. After a few days, when the packeage was getting close, I called Eagle to arrange the delivery time. They said it was a good thing I called because they did not have a phone number for me. Had I not called, they said they would have eventually sent me a post card and waited for me to call them. Anyway, they said the package was not quite ready for delivery and to call back the next day. The next day, I called and they asked me for my address. Somehow, they had a different address for me. They said they could not deliver my package until this was straightened out. I checked my Amazon receipt and went online to make sure that I had not made a mistke, but everything had my correct address on it. After several calls to Amazon and another day of waiting, it got straightened out. However, when the packagae was delivered, they missed the 5 hour delivery window by alomst 2 hours.

Now, I still think I would have ordered the tv because this was a great deal. It was at least 20% cheaper than what I could have gotten from a local store. However, if it was only 10% cheaper, I would have saved myself the hassle and just bought it locally.
