  1. I have had this TV for 4 days so far, and I can't say enough positive about things about it. The set up was easy, and the amount of control you have for the picture settings is very in depth. The extra warranty of the 860 (18 months instead of 12 months for the 850) is a nice perk. The blue TOC (Touch of Color) is barely noticeable, it really looks black/graphite grey unless you look very closely. The good news is that the 'halo effect' that some owners of the 750 have complained about is non-existent on the 860. I also love the swivel stand because I did not wall mount this TV even though it is exceptionally thin.
Plugged in my HD cable box and new Blu-ray player via HDMI and everything has worked perfectly so far. The picture is stunning, and there are so many functions and features that I just haven't gone through all of them yet.
On the flip side, there is a lag if you are using the little circle dial on the remote. Better off just clicking up, down, left, or right instead of spinning the dial around and waiting for the TV to react.
I don't have surround sound yet, but the TV speakers aren't too bad. Hard to rave about fake surround sound from tiny TV speakers, but that's expected.
Overall, I would recommend this TV without hesitation this to anyone looking for a new 1080p LCD TV.

  1. Pro:
Sharp picture, even over component video - good color response, compares well to other TVs of similar price and size
    HDMI input
Very attractive stainless steel case (even the stand is stylish)
    Slim, stylish remote

    Con:
Remote not universal - too bad because the remote is otherwise really nice
No built in OTA tuner - not a big minus, but worth knowing

This is a good TV for a kitchen (especially if the other appliances are stainless) or a bedroom. Works exactly as advertized - good picture, nice packaging, no frivilous extras. Basic universal remote functionality would make this a five star review.

  2. This is a great buy. If you are looking for a bedroom TV or a really nice kitchen tv, or even for LAN parties...(it has a cool handle) this is the TV. IT is $200 cheaper then at Best Buy. HDMI and component video inputs...and doubles as a PC monitor. I know TV's.--I have 6 of them :)

  3. Though I'm tempted to give it a 4.5, this set is good but not great compared to the latest REGZA displays that Toshiba produces. The better panels seem to have slightly better contrast ratios and better panel response times. However, most of this makes little difference for our usage.

FIrst and foremost, this is designed for kitchen use; it has the same stainless-steel finish as many high-end kitchen appliances and fits into our kitchen/breakfast room quite well. It's stylish and cleanly designed, with few frills and smooth surfaces.

It is also well thought out regarding the rear panel. Though it's a bit difficult to remove and insert -- and also a little more fragile than I'd like -- there is a rear cover that hides the connections for power and cable TV. To make this work properly it's important to sit down, place the TV face down (on a soft surface, of course) in front of you (I used my lap), and perform the "operation" there. This makes it far easier to remove the panel, install your cables and connectors, and reinstall the rear cover. Though it's a little finicky the finished product is very nice in a kitchen like ours, where it's easy to see the back of the set.

Picture quality is very good for this price range. I've only used it with regular cable so far; no doubt the picture would be improved by connecting to a digital cable or satellite source.

All in all, I highly recommend this set IF you need something for kitchen use or you just like the styling of this unit.

  4. Good looking TV, good picture, easy to mount. Too bad the remote is not a universal style. It will not control the cable box or dvd, so I am using the cable box remote. I did have some initial trouble getting some of the HD channels to work when using an hdmi cable, but I am not sure if that was more of a problem with the cable box. Anyway the problem sorted itself out and is now working fine.

  5. The tv is awesome. The picture is incredible and the tv has many features. The only thing I would have like to have seen better is the PIP function. It is a bit limited -- it can only show the analog signal. There is also no easy swap or split creen finction like I have on my other big screed hdtv. Other than that, it is a great tv, especially for the price on Amazon.

On the other hand, Amazon's "white glove" delivery service left a lot to be desired. My shipment came through Eagle Global Shipping. I had seen several complaints from other buyers about Eagle, so I kept close tabs on the status of my shipment. After a few days, when the packeage was getting close, I called Eagle to arrange the delivery time. They said it was a good thing I called because they did not have a phone number for me. Had I not called, they said they would have eventually sent me a post card and waited for me to call them. Anyway, they said the package was not quite ready for delivery and to call back the next day. The next day, I called and they asked me for my address. Somehow, they had a different address for me. They said they could not deliver my package until this was straightened out. I checked my Amazon receipt and went online to make sure that I had not made a mistke, but everything had my correct address on it. After several calls to Amazon and another day of waiting, it got straightened out. However, when the packagae was delivered, they missed the 5 hour delivery window by alomst 2 hours.

Now, I still think I would have ordered the tv because this was a great deal. It was at least 20% cheaper than what I could have gotten from a local store. However, if it was only 10% cheaper, I would have saved myself the hassle and just bought it locally.

  1. Overall I am very happy with this SONY. Great picture and easy to set up. I was however surprised to find out this TV is Made in Mexico. My fingers are crossed that it wasn't made on a Friday. We happen to live in Mexico a good part of the year and I am not a fan of electronics made there. Just as I am not a fan of American made autos.

  2. Just what I expected. Excelent product, no flaws. I recommend it.

    mm

  3. I've had this TV for about six months and like everything about it. Ordering through Amazon was a snap, shipping time quick and setup as advertised. We liked it so much that we ordered a smaller version for the bedroom. Would recommend it to anyone.

  4. This is the second one that I purchased! It has a very clear picture and since I have it connected to my PC, I rarely watch TV anymore!

    Already looking at another one.

  5. This is a very nice TV. The controls are easy to use and ports are easily accessed. The picture was superb right out of the box and required very little adjustment. Also, I turned it on using my cable box remote immediately, no synching required. Very happy with this purchase.

5 comments about Panasonic TH-50PZ700U 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV.
  1. I orginally bought this TV because it was rated very highly. I had a couple of Samsung LCD's and thought I would try a plasma. When I had it delivered and tried to set it up I found that I could not increase the brightness and contrast to the level I wanted. Depending on the channel, this aspect of the picture varied between good and fair. The resolution, however, was excellent. To make a long story short, after investigation I realized that the difference in pictures between the plasmas and LCD's was significant. I had read that the LCD's were brighter but I always assumed that picture adjustment could minimize the difference. Wrong. Now beauty is in the eye of the beholder, because other people were satisfied with the picture. However, it didn't work for me and I exchanged it for another Samsung LCD and I am now very happy. If for any reason you are sensitive to the brightness and vibrance of the picture then I would recommend you note the differences in technologies.

  2. This Panasonic Plasma HDTV is simply an incredible product. The picture quality stands out as nothing short of impressive. I found this HDTV to strike the perfect balance between excellent quality and price. After months of searching for a quality product to invest my money in, this HDTV does not disappoint.

While there has been some history of people expressing concern about the picture brightness of plasma flat-panels (i.e. being too dim), I have found this Panasonic to provide ample brightness of picture. As a matter of fact, a description in my house of the picture is how the colors "glow." Of course this is referring the the brighter colors. This leads me to another aspect of the picture, the darker colors. This is where this plasma really stands out. The darker colors are well defined with deep blacks. The grays and blacks are well delineated. For someone who likes to view a lot of movies, the strength of it's display of darker colors is something that I have found impressive. Additionally, the plasma is excellent in it's display of motion. For a sports fan, such as myself, this plasma does an excellent job of displaying the motion of sports.

Also of note with this plasma is that the performance of the speakers turned out to be a pleasant surprise. One of my wife's first comments about this Panasonic was the good quality of sound from it's speakers.

After having this Panasonic for about 4 months, I've had no problems with this product and have found it to be free of defects.

While I've spent much time providing a "glowing" review of this set, I'll turn to any perceived weaknesses. They are few, and I almost have to search for them.

One of the main weaknesses that I found is the need for tender, love & care that the plasma requires. Specifically, plasmas can be at danger for screen "burn-in" by leaving a static image on the screen for too long. While I have not had any burn-in problems, I do remain vigilant about not leaving the tv on while unattended. At least this helps me to save on my electricity bill as these HDTVs are known to be energy hogs. As a precaution, I do not leave letterbox shows on the screen for hours uninterrupted. My complaint regarding this weakness is that the manual mentions image retention/screen burn-in, but the manual does not clearly define the length of time before there is danger of burn-in.

One last weakness that I found is that there are only 2 HDMI connection ports. While that is just enough for me, it would be nice to have an extra just in case.

In conclusion, I am extremely impressed with this Panasonic plasma. I am really glad that I choose this set, and my family and I get much enjoyment out of it. I view this set as being worth every penny that I paid for it. Panasonic has won me over.

  3. straight up, i did my research for about a year while i saved money. this is the best set you will find for your money, everything you've read about it is true, except one thing. Burn-in. Gamers beware. Even if you watch HD-TV with a symbol in the corner like 'TLC' you'll get burn in if the icon doesn't move. I have this set and a good friend does too. what really upsets me is playing my ps3 through this. Sharp as a razor yes. adding a static wallpaper for a custom theme though is a BAD idea. Try it, you'll see. then play some music and turn the visualizer on. if you cant see the burn in, then get your eyes checked. play rock band or guitar hero FOR AN HOUR (which is'nt hard to do), turn any white background on, look for the game icon burn ins (rock meter, etc). Generally they go away after a couple hours, but its frustrating. BOTH my set and my good friend's set do the same thing. even a half hour of a static image will create burn in. Granted its better now a days than it used to be, at least it goes away after some time.... if you're a gamer, pick up the sharp aquos. no burn-in on an lcd set; and the runner up as far as a great picture goes (reds are a little funny at times though). Reviews are slightly lower, but hell, you could at least leave a game system on pause without havening to worry about switching the inputs to avoid burn in. Im serious folks. take heed. great set, bad for gamers and burn-in. sharp as a razor though....

  4. Excellent. TV came quickly with no damage, which was a concern because of its size and delicacy!!

  5. I bought a Panasonic plasma 2 years ago and it died for no reason. It will now cost $2000 for the board just to fix it. The TV repairman said he has never seen such a high cost for a replacement board. Multiple different board tried without luck. Still waiting.

  1. I bought this TV about 4 weeks ago. It is great, no problems or issues with it. Great picture. I've had friends with sony's and sharp's over and they swear it is a more superior picture than theirs. I read all the reviews for this and was worried about possible problems with having to flash the chipset, but not one single problem. I guess the earlier production models had some issues. The 15000:1 contrast ratio is awesome, and the new models are posting 25k and also 100k. It can from a company called Vann's. It took 5 days to get by way of ground shipping. I had an all around pleasurable experience with Vann's and Amazon.

  2. I originally bought the tv a year ago. I wanted to give it a full year before I could put my honest opinion on here and I must say WOW. ALL of the HD channels look amazing, xbox 360 is a wow, blu ray holy cow. Everything is so vivid and crisp. Not sure what the price is now but if you are looking for a 1080p TV that is proven you should buy this one.

  3. Greatest thing to happen to my living room ever. <--period
    ---------------------------------------------------------- <--underlined
i have had my tv for about 3 months now, and i am constantly amazed at it's clarity and depth of color. the black is black and the white is white. no funky shadowing. no weird pixels, or discoloration. maybe the 40" screen was a slight overkill in my little one bedroom apartment, but i have been overkilling all my entertainment since i was 13. it just comes naturally. a lot of purchasing a tv is preference once you sort out the bad products from the good, and this is definately a good tv. i have seen it next to sony bravias, and phillips big screen plasmas,(not to mention all the other un-noteworthy tv's) and so far nothing beats it on realistic smooth continual color. P.S. amazon's delivery service sounded very scary, but the price was so low i had to try. i am glad i did because it was actually quite amazing. it arrived very promptly and they actually had to wait on me to get ready for it. they sent it to a distribution center in my area (Nor-Cal) and called me to set up a delivery time. they wanted to bring it the next day but i needed more time to clear space so i had them bring it the day after. it arrived right on time in perfect condition. we plugged it in right there and tried it on all my hardware, and i then signed off on it and never looked back.

  4. We have been very pleased with this TV. The picture and the sound are excellent. I would recommend this TV to a friend.

  5. Samsung LNT4065F 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV
I bought this TV for myself and then recommended it to my Mother. Now we are both enjoying vivid, bright, and colorful LCD High Definition TV. The TV is gorgeous on the stand. The sound is rich. One of the great surprises was that without a high definition cable converter box the TV finds and displays the available High Definition channels on its own. Yes the picture would be better if I did have it connected to a digital cable box but for no additional fee I can view High definition TV because of the built in converter in the TV.

I have given it 4 stars as my other high definition CRT tv still beats the LCD TV in clarity and detail.

  1. This a rare find...there aren't too many manufacturers making a 32" Plasma. With that said, this was the cheapest price I could find on this size plasma. But the TV was not cheaply made. The price does not reflect the craftsmanship of the TV. It has a very sturdy frame and the picture is very smooth and the colors are very deep. And XBOX 360 looks awesome on this tv. If you dont want to spend $900+ on a name *Samsung*, you should consider this SOYO. It's worth much more than the price tag its given.

  2. I bought this for my sister as a change over TV to digital. She absolutely loves it. It's clear and bright. She has always had trouble reading the words on the bottom of some programs but can easily read them now on this TV.

    Thanks again. Excellent product!
