  1. The first one had a very annoying horizontal line across the middle. I returned it which is tough as it is too heavy for me alone. The second one was better.

The good about this set; large and cheap

The bad about this set; a lot of backlight bleed through , color is not accurate, and blacks could use improvement. LCD panels have light bulbs in the back that light them up whereas on plasmas each pixel is either on or off. The problem is the bulb back bleed through the sides on panels which creates false light and this unit is very bad here. If you have a cheap laptop you know what I mean just on a larger scale.

Set is not 120mhz and only 60mhz. The new stuff is 120mhz which makes a huge improvement in the picture. This is my fault because I assumed a brane new panel these days would be 120mhz. Nope, I was wrong.

    very heavy. 240lbs.

I read elsewhere the company is in serious straights. Just use a search engine for Syntax or Olevia.

Menu is funny as many items in the manual are not in the menu itself

Menu is also layed out strange. Take some getting used to.

HD pictures are ok but I could not get the image to come in like my Panasonic 58" plasma.

All in all this is a ok tv unit but it not the top of the line. It uses old Sharp panels and mine had 3 stuck pixels on it.

I ended up refunding my unit and still shopping around for another large panel set. The Sharp 65" is very pricey but the price is coming down so I may wait for that to unit before pulling the trigger.

  2. Apart from some biased review already present, I will agree with others here and start off with for the price the TV could be looked at as a good value. That is it.

But, I would be amiss if I did not speak of the company itself. The company does appear to be in very big trouble and has defaulted on over 100 million in loans to banks. It looks like the banks have taken over the company and to what end I am not sure. Looks like BK is in the future. I did not know this when I bought mine but now that I did I am glad I returned my unit as well.
230lbs is to heavy for a paper weight if no service is available.

Now on to the teli itself.

This huge teli is a looker. Handsome and understated frame, it blends well in most environments. I makes for an impressive statement in your home theater.

Has a good selection of inputs which I enjoy. I have a Toshiba HDDVD player and cable HD box all connected with a HDMI cable.

The remote control works ok but must be aimed precisely at the tv to get any type of reaction.

The manual comes across as being made for another version of the teli as many items listed in it are missing from my tv.

This thing is massive and weighs a ton. A wall mount is available but I am not comfortable with mounting this on the wall. My wall would probably rip right out with the weight in my old house.

The picture: this is where things went south. Other reviews here and other places mention the blacks and I agree 1000%. I just could not get the blacks to agree with my eyes. Lookes grey and blotchy. This with a HD input and playing my 24P HDDVD movies.
The color takes some tweaking and can be made to look ok but just not right. The skin tone just could not be dialed in the way my Pioneer looked. Plus the on screen menu is flat out confusing. I never seen such a layout.

The retailer where I made this purchase did have a floor model but the feed was not HD and so I could not judge for sure what the PQ was with a HD input.

This set also is old tech and comes with no 120mhz, old panel and so on and on. Why spend good money on old tech?

I took mine back and bought me a Kuro PDP-6010FD plasma 60". It was a great deal more money but the picture is out of this world with unexcelled realism.

To sum this teli up I would say it is like a old Cadi. It is big but brings nothing more to the table. it is cheap though and if you are not using HD then perhaps this is the teli for you. It is not bad, just not the caliber of tv that others sell which admitingly are more $$$.

There are plenty of better options out there. Panasonic and Sharp to name just two make excellent 65" screens. Yes they are more expensive but do you want a large screen teli with a poor picture or a real teli with a nice picture?

  3. I don't understand 2 of the 3 negatives reviews. The third was hardware related and is understandable. First, I believe the 2 negative reviews in question were written by the same person because of similiar grammer. The knocks included weight, picture quality, and black level. The the author(s) said they bought or recommended 60 " plasma tvs. First if they wanted a 60 inch tv don't look at this one because it is a 65 inch. Since at 1080P all sets have the same number of Pixels, the 65 inch pixels will be bigger therefore the sharpness will not be the same. Also, a 65 inch tv weighs more than a 60 inch. As to plasma, there is a reason plasma tv's are disappearing from the market place.

But my thoughts. This TV is a great value. Bought one at SC for under 3,000. They had 12 TV's lined up in two rows so it was relatively easy to compare. Of the 12, the 65 inch Olevia had the 2nd best picture. The best picture was from a 52 inch Sony. Considering the size, this is outstanding. And the Sony cost more. Weight is not an issue once the unit is placed. Yes the blacks could be better but when viewing the TV by itself, they look fine.

After I installed this unit for a relative, several non tv and tv types viewed the unit and gave very positive non solicited comments. What more can one ask for.

I don't like the remote but that is a minor issue.

Are their better TV's. Probably. The only other 65 inch LCD that I'm aware of is the Sharp. This TV is less than 1/2 its price. Therefore, this is a no brainer.

  4. My wife and I bought this from a local warehouse. At first we thought it would fit in our SUV, no sir, not close. Now I guess had we removed the item from the box it would fit just nicely but I didn't want to take the chance. We paid a little under $2800.00 for this thing.
Now, I am no professional videophile mind you but I do have my share of technology gleaming in my loft from A Playstation 3 to even an old HDDVD player which is now a coaster these days I suppose. Sad.
I have this on a tv table because putting it up on a wall scares the you know what out of me.
I compared this set to others at the store but it is not a very good method of comparing since all tv's must be calibrated and all of the tv's at the stores are not so take what you see at the store with a grain of salt. With that out there the unit looked OK at the store. Not super, not great, OK.
When we came home I got my neghbor to come out and help me out which he did (he owes me so may favors). We took this monster in, set it up, connected the HDMI cable and hit CLICK and then NOTHING. HUH? OK, I must of screwed up someplace. I checked the power cord,ok, I checked power to the MONSTER power conditioner, A-OK there. See me scratching my head this time. We looked , we checked, we pulled, we plugged in, plugged out, and could not figure things out.
We tried calling Syntax but nope, closed up, guess they had to cut some payroll to save some cash.
We tried a extension cord though we knew there was power. Nope. It just sort of stared at us with a blank look which is understandable as the screen was blank.
We loaded it up, took it back the next morning. Got another one. No problem, this is going to work great and the gane is on in 2 hours. We get some beer, get home, take it out, set it up again and hit power. WOW, it worked so the first tv was just bad.
I messed with the colors but I kept getting this faint in the middle that would not go away. I tried every adjustment and the line was still there. Think of a fishing line across the tv and you get the idea.
I read the manual and nothing on the lines.
We watched the game with this line on it. My neighbor probably went home and told his wife that I bought junk. I can see him now.
I got ahold of Olevia the next day and after a mind crunching 35 minutes to get someone the guy told me to take it back. I said-what? I took one back yesterday for being bad. The guy said to me that it is possible I got two bad units and was not much help beyond that. In fact he was a little rude and snobish too. Oh well.
I called my neighbor again. We took the tv back and this time picked up something else. What good is 65' if it is just going to be bad or going to go bad later on I ask you?
This is what I get for trying to save some money. I have been hearing it from my wife since and my neighbor still asks if I plan on buying a 80" tv that don't work some day. Punk!
Not sure if my luck is very bad but I read some others had similar problems so I would give the recommedation to buy a brand name tv and not something like this that will go out later.
This is is heavy too. My back hurt after all the traveling with it.
Thats my take so take it or not. Peace.

  5. I purchased this TV 3 weeks back. paid 2326 + tax+ shipping on SC Auctions. Was little skeptical about the purchase, hence didn't commit to the payment. The local SC didn't have a display of this TV hence travelled 70-miles to see the TV before committing to pay. The TV was displayed with 12-13 TVs and probably looked better than most except Sony 52-inch, which was only marginally better probably due to its smaller size. It's no brainer that a same pic-feed will look better on a smaller display. Well after playing with the remote, I decided to go for it.

Some people have mentioned about the company having financial trouble. Well, let me tell you that this flat panel industry is very competitive and many good brands are making losses. Olevia is a reputed brand and once had the best LCOS TV, even better than Sony SXRD. In fact Olevia are the official owners for LCOS technology.JVC IDLA, Sony SXRD, Canon LCOS projectors are based on this same technology.

Coming to the performance of the TV- probably has the best video-processing even comparable to Sony and Pioneer. The processor is by SiliconOptix Realta HQV which is one of the best in the industry. There is no banding, no dead pixel. The picture is crisp and beautiful. The screen has matte finish hence almost no light reflections. The Olevia marketing team is really done a poor job. Put this TV in Best-buy, Circuit city and this TVs are going to disappear within no time. The only drawback this unit, I could think of is, very minimal backlight bleeding from the corners, which is not at all distracting. This is only visible if you are watching during night or in dark room and if the pic is widescreen. The contrast ratio is good; But not as good as plasma or LED Backlight LCDs. The TV is bright and no problem watching with lights on. I have tried blue-ray and HD-DVDs and both look awesome. I have seen Sharp 65-inch TV (both have same LCD panel) and this TV has better video-processing and is half the cost.

This is my 3rd flat panel, and I can say that this is the best one. I have never written a review before, but after reading few reviews on this website, which, I think are unfair for this great TV, I decided to write.

This TV is very heavy but really well built. I wouldn't consider this a weakness. A 65-inch TV is not going to be moved from place to place. You will need a real good stand or a strong wall-mount and help from at least 2-3 friends.

My suggestion to all, don't make your decision based on big brand names. Go to Sam's Club and see this TV yourself and make your decision. Don't blame this TV if you are not able to properly set it up. Some times setting up HDMI is confusing and many times one gets stuck, many times its only a minor issue, please don't blame this TV for your ignorance.

  1. I bought this computer december of 06', on black friday, i ended up getting this tv at around $500, at the time the closest thing was over $1000.

there is one word to describe this awesome tv... perfect.

maybe its the amazing 1080i picture, maybe its the ability to play all my pc games with stunning clarity (crysis,COD4,FEAR) and have this act as a double monitor, or the Xbox 360 1080i graphics, im not sure, but everything i wanted or wished i had from a HDTV i got with this one.

  2. After having this product for 5 months, the picture went dead and volume wasn't always working. Kept taking longer and longer to actually turn on and I could only tell this when the volume was working since picture was already out. Called Syntax customer service and they notified me I had to ship my old tv back to them so they could look at it. Took 3 weeks for them to ship the tv back (with a different remote, not sure why). Worked like normal again for about 2 days. Volume doesn't always work. But I didn't bother to call syntax back since it was a pain. I recommend not buying this tv or buying a very long warranty from the store. Looking for another tv and spending the extra money for a better brand, like LG or Sony).

  3. That's what it means! I've had mine for about a year. No problems, great picture, average sound (you always need a home stereo or surround system to get the best from TV sound). Menus take a little getting used to. Just one HDMI port for your DVD or BD player - so get a multiple switcher if you need more. Most of us don't.

At $600 currently, this is a steal. I paid nearly $800 then. You can spend two or three times as much and get a little more, but not much more. If you already have a much bigger screen TV, this will be great for another room. If this is your choice for a first digital HD 1080i TV, congratulations - you are on the right page.

No paper user manual. Upgradable ROM via USB port. Make your relatives and neighbors jealous that they paid so much more for a lesser performing HD TV.

  4. I have had this TV for about 5 months now and have used most of its features. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase. The picture and audio are very good. I had a Superbowl party and all my friends watched the game on this TV and very were all quite happy. My only complaints so far are:

    1) The TV takes some time (around 10-12 secs) to start up. I wish it booted faster
    2) The remote control is not compatible with my Comcast DVR; so i need to use 2 remotes

Given the low price of the TV, I am happy to live with the above mentioned shortcomings. Ofcourse, you know this is not a "top of the line" TV. But if you looking for good quality for an affordable price, you would like this TV

  5. Don't buy a Syntax Olevia! I bought one and it died almost to the day the warranty went out. Customer service said I would have to pay to ship it back and pay the parts and labor to fix it and that would cost over half of the TV's cost. They wouldn't offer to help with anything and they said they lost my registration card, the same one they used to call me with to ask me how I liked it a week after I bought the TV. So all I can do is to post this to every blog I can to try to inform others.

  1. This TV is nice, it has almost all the hookups you need.
Regular cable does look a bit... regular but that just may be because I have split the signal to another TV(a flat screen LCD) DVDs look just as great from a regular dvd player on this and my flat screen TV but now I can tell even better what is CGI and what is real. I thought that 20" would be too small but the clarity leaves that thought behind.
My biggest problem is with the remote control and menu functions, they're clumsy, inconvenient, incomplete.

Nutshell: If you've liked the picture on an LCD flat screen, this is not THAAAAaaat much better.

    Pros:
+Great picture with unsplit cable connection
+Can change picture format with one button
+Change Color format with one button
    +Good sound**
+Change sound format with one button
    +Looks good even when off
+PIP when using as PC monitor-to-TV**
    +Smooth Sleek remote
    +Some nice remote functions

    Cons for TV:
    -May need color adjustments
    -Clock...? Where's the clock?
-TV Menus are awkward and incomplete
    -Not HDTV... is EDTV...
    -No composite(RCA) audio output
-Must use headphone jack for any type of surround and then the tv speakers are disabled.

    Cons for Remote:
-Surf feature on remote??? It's a menu. I just as well enter the channels myself.
-I would rather the input/source select to cycle the input channels than a menu.
-Button placement is a bit awkward.
-User manual Describes functions that this unit doesn't have(Sleep/Wakeup)
-PIP on remote is only for if using as PC monitor

Despite the cons, I would still get this unit for what i does do and for the price.

  2. This product is everything I (Very capital I) needed. Two small complaints; the wall mount IS inconvenient, and the remote control worked for all of 10 minutes. However, if you intend to use this device as a freestanding unit you will be VERY satasfied. Great picture, and sound, with easy access to the many audio and video ports. Its the perfect fit for a smaller apartment or a bedroom.

  3. my standard definition tv from the early 90's has a way better picture quality than this tv! this is no hdtv/

  4. This TV gives you a good pictures for the price. It look nice and works well. The only problem is that the audio is not very loud so I had to hook up external speakers but that was a minor inconvenience.

  5. I gave this product a review before. I am so happy and pleased with this television. I purchased it for my daughter and she is overwhelmed with it. She loves it. She is an adult and you know how hard it is to please your older children. Well she was taken by the television. I am pleased with the service that amazon always gives me. Amazon is great and mostly everything that I need I can look forward to getting it from amazon. You usually received these things within a timely manner and for that I am happy.

  1. I was having trouble getting it to play DVDs through the component video connections, so I called Samsung's customer service. The girl I talked to gave me no useful information. By reading through the manuals of both my DVD player and the TV, I learned that it would work if I used an HDMI cable. I haven't had any problems since.

  2. This LCD TV displays brilliant color when watching HD TV. It does not have the pip function for TV as advertised. It does not have audio out. You can defeat that by hooking up your cable box to your Home Theater System. I also would recommend using a HDMI cable to connect the TV to your cable box, it provides a superior picture than using the component cables (less image artifacts). I have an XBOX 360 connected and the games are beautiful. There is a problem watching XBOX 360 dvd on the LCD but I use the xbox for gaming. If using a Home theater system with a DVD make sure you buy Widescreen format DVD's and configure your DVD player accordingly

  3. I use analog cable only with this unit in a bedroom location.
Pros: Picture is very good given the analog signal source. Plenty of audio for our bedroom setting. Unit looks good.
Cons: The remote must be pointed within a very narrow angle range towards the receiver for it to pick up the remotes signal. The onscreen channel numbers are very small and hard to read at a distance. I have found no way to increase font size. Long delay in unit turn on with remote make you keep pushing the power button and hoping you have it pointed at the proper angle. Would rate it at between 3 and 4 out of 5.

  4. This product is nothing more than an expensive computer monitor. It does NOT recieve digital or HDTV channels. That simple. I purchased an expensive HDTV antenna to capture the "hidden" channels. Forget it. It only picks up the ancient analog channels. I could do that with my 20 year-old tube TV. The HDTV logo on the front is misleading....no, it's an outright lie. If I could give this zero stars, I would.

  5. this was my first flatscreen/hdtv...its been really reliable, great tv, i dont understand all the other reviews about it not supporting alot of their other devices....i have hooked up alot of things to it n it all worked perfectly, it has such a clear picture...the only downside which i wish i had been better informed of when i bought it is that it does not have an atsc(digital) tuner, it only has an analog tuner...but other than that its a great tv

  1. Great TV. No issues. Wonderful delivery from Amazon. Make sure to search the web for the ideal settings for this TV and it will look wonderful. Also, I got a great tip online to protect this potentially fragile LCD from kids...buy a piece of Lexan and some velcro tape to make a protective screen. It introduces a little glare, but protects from having a $1900 paperweight.

  2. I just replaced my 2nd Sony Bravia in 4 months. I had delamination on both sets. Highly dissappointed. Change to a Samsung. So far so good

  3. I gave this TV 1 star because I could not give it zero star. I was deciding between the Mitsubishi LT-46133 and this Sony DKL46V3000. Mitsubishi had much better features, but I decide to buy the Sony because
it had slightly better contrast in the dark areas. Big mistake buying this piece of lemon. I bought the unit on 12/22/07, the unit malfunctioned by doing auto shut down on 3/7/08. It has been in the repair shop twice since then and I hope to get it back before the end of May 2008. Sony offered me a replacement refurbished unit, saying the unit is more than 30 days. I refused because I paid for a new TV, not a refurbished unit. When I ask Robert at Customer Relations if this quality is acceptable, his reply is "things happen, and you turned down our offer to exchange it [with a refurbished unit]". Some one at work suggested I take them to Small Claims Court, which Robert replies "that is your peragative". Compare this to my friend's Mitsubishi TV bougt in Nov 2007 and my parent's Samsung TV bought in Dec 2007 which are still working fine.

  4. I was going to buy a 52" Sony, but after playing with this set, I'm glad I settled into a 46". The picture is plenty big enough in my living room. And with my Sony home theater system set up, everything works very well.

  5. Lots of LCD TVs out there so buying one can be overwhelming. We are enjoying this set lots.

  1. Excellent TV; perfect fit for the bedroom. Very good picture and sound. Quick and efficient delivery. Completely satisfied with purchase.

  2. OUTSTANDING DELIVERY AND FITS OUR KITCHEN AND SPACE. ONLY DRAW BACK IS THE DARK PICTURE (BLACK WHEN IN ALT OF LIGHT)

  3. I have several different models of 19 inch HDTVs in the house. This HDTV gives me the best reception and best picture of any of them. The white color also looks great in our kitchen.

  4. This TV is very slow to activate. Reminds me of the old tube tv's.

  5. Don't pay too much attention to the negative reviews. I bought this refurbished TV from Amazon in May and have it mounted on the bedroom wall. Picture (SD/HD) and SRS sound are good. Start-up is a little slow, around 10 sec. Also manual touch controls are a little sensitive, takes a while to get used to. You can always use the remote, which works fine. Remote must have RF, since I can point it at the opposite wall and it still works. Shop around, go for this 2007 model if you can get it for $300 or less. Otherwise, get the L19A331 model.

Useful tip: for wall mount, top of TV should not be more than a couple of inches above eye level. Otherwise, picture will be a little dark.
