  1. Overall a really great small TV.

Pros: small size which is good for a small space (ours sits atop a dresser in our bedroom); sleek and nice looking; for some unexplained reason, we started getting HDTV channels when we do not have that as part of our cable package (nice surprize); really good picture quality; Toshiba TVs typically rank high in quality.

Cons: takes a long time (7-10 seconds) for the TV to turn on once the on button is pressed; also takes a longer time than expected for channels to change; sound quality is fair to good but not great (in a small room it is sufficient.

Overall, I do recommend this product.

  1. Works great on the xbox and doubles up as a monitor for my laptop. Added a wireless keyb and mouse and now the laptop is a media center!

    Bonus!

Max res seems to b only 1024x768 but clarity is excellent.

  2. Bought this a few months ago - tinkered around with all the settings - hooked it up to my PS3(80gb model - the best!!) - used DVD & blu-ray calibration disks to fine-tune and after endless hours of experimentation the results are satisfying - if not spectacular.
    1) Connections - has more than what you might normally need, unless you are a hardcore techie setting up a really hifi home-theater setup. Go thru the specs
    2) Audio - from a layman's perspective(& I would consider myself slightly up the curve compared to a layman), audio is excellent. Bass is terrific - (pseudo)surround-sound works like magic with TV programs that broadcast in surround sound - it is not tinny to hear. Supports optical digital out which might be downmixed to dolby pro-logic. That should not matter in case you are feeding audio from your sources to your home-theater receiver. IMP NOTE - if you hook-up your AV source to this TV via HDMI, audio is downmixed to 2-ch LPCM. (Note that LPCM is pure uncompressed, better than compressed formats like dolby digital or DTS, channel for channel - of course, this is 2-ch so again recommendation is to connect your AV source to your home theater receiver).
    3) Video - this is spectacular. This TV is billed as a 1080i but make no mistake it accepts full 1080p inputs. The result (my viewing distance is around 8 ft) is indistinguishable from an equivalent 1080p (I spent tons of hours in research and comparison). Colors, detail & sharpness are ourstanding when watching BD movies from my PS3 hooked up via HDMI. Absolutely no complaints.
IMP NOTE - it is essential that you spend time calibrating all the myriad pic options to suit you best. I found that if I started by setting all options "dead center or middle" and then tweaking each one as high as my eye found pleasing, with final fine-tuning touches by using calibration DVDs, results were spectacular. Spend time on these calibrations and your labors will be rewarded.
I DO NOT have HD TV transmission - have regular DirecTV but the results are still VERY GOOD. Yes, there is a slight smudginess etc(will be there when you watch regular transmission on ANY HDTV) but this one likely deals with it in the best possible way. The results are as if you are watching the best quality VHS tape and oh yes - the south asian channels that I get - for some reason look almost HD-like on this TV.
I got it on sale for 839/- and in its size-class this is probably the best one for the price, still!!!! Go TOSHIBA REGZA!!!

  3. Great picture. Excellent white glove delivery. It was so good that I bought a 2nd one exactly like it for our 2nd bedroom.

  4. I have had this TV for about 5 months (yes, I used my tax rebate). I was lucky and found it on sale as an end of line since the new ones were coming out. I had gone to the store planning to buy the newest Toshiba 37" (not Regza) but got this one instead as it was exactly the same for less money. I love it! I had upgraded from a 21" CRT so it was a huge improvement. I find the picture quality, sound and menus to be very good. My only complaint is when I watch DVDs I have to turn the sound way up, but this is probably not really an issue with the TV itself. I researched the LCD market heavily before I bought and I believe I made the best choice for me. I highly recommend this TV (and Toshiba in general) as a great choice for a great price.

  5. I bought this TV back in Dec. 2007 as a gift for my older parents. They've used it daily ever since.

Before purchasing this model I found a professional review that stated that the HD quality was more than acceptable for this model (keep in mind it's 720p), but that non-HD digital and analog signals were some of the worst you'll find in this price range. I know, you buy a TV like this for watching HD. Problem is, you don't always receive HD.

Before I bought my parents an upcoverting DVD player they used the regular player for this TV and it was just horrible. The picture was worse than what they had with the older analog set. Rushed out and bought the new DVD player. That problem was fixed.

They receive their digital TV over antenna. Keep in mind that on antenna you can get three signals - analog (which disappears in 2009), digital (regular signal for lack of another term) and HD. Since analog is going the way of the dodo there's no need to address that. However, there are plenty of times that the digital signal is not in HD. When that happens, this TV's picture is kind of disappointing. Not horrible, no, but if you're stuck without an HD signal long enough it will make you wonder why you spent so much money.

Keep in mind that there are digital TVs that do handle non-HD signals quite well - but you have to find the professional technical reviews out there to find out which ones they are.

This might sound like I'm bashing this TV, but I don't intend to. It was worth the money. Just buyer beware. Buy this if you know you're going to receive an HD signal on a regular basis. If not, you might want to look for a different model.

  1. I bought the Samsung LNT3253H 32 inch lcd tv and found that after only a few months, the TV whistles so loudly it sounds like a tea pot. The picture is great, but the annoying noise coming from the back of the TV is awful. I'm sending it back. Hold off on buying this model until a fix is made.

  2. i had my tv since March (4 months) and its a complete piece of junk. after turning on the tv for about 5 minutes it starts a "humming" sound that gets so loud that its impossible to listen to the tv. i called for service and no one has even responded. (as i write this i have been on hold for 30 minutes)So take it from me..save your money DO NOT buy Samsung TVs - great picture, lousy TV.

  3. We bought this model in February from Best Buy, and a couple of months later it starting making a loud high pithed ringing noise and also seemed to get very hot. We called Best Buy and they sent a repair person from out of town (3 hours away). They took the set and won't have it back to us for at least 3 weeks. Best Buy won't give us a loaner tv, so we're stuck without our tv. This set definitely needs to be recalled. I couldn't recommend this set to anyone.

  4. I bought this TV even with all the warnings about the high pitched sounds and I'm glad I did. I got a great deal on it, the picture is great , and I don't regret it!

  5. I have had this tv for about 6 month's and I have to say it is a great tv! I LOVE IT!!!! my buddy has a 52' version of this tv and it is the same way! Just a all around great tv!!!.

5 comments about Sony Bravia V-Series KDL-46V3000 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV.
  1. Great TV. No issues. Wonderful delivery from Amazon. Make sure to search the web for the ideal settings for this TV and it will look wonderful. Also, I got a great tip online to protect this potentially fragile LCD from kids...buy a piece of Lexan and some velcro tape to make a protective screen. It introduces a little glare, but protects from having a $1900 paperweight.

  2. I just replaced my 2nd Sony Bravia in 4 months. I had delamination on both sets. Highly dissappointed. Change to a Samsung. So far so good

  3. I gave this TV 1 star because I could not give it zero star. I was deciding between the Mitsubishi LT-46133 and this Sony DKL46V3000. Mitsubishi had much better features, but I decide to buy the Sony because
it had slightly better contrast in the dark areas. Big mistake buying this piece of lemon. I bought the unit on 12/22/07, the unit malfunctioned by doing auto shut down on 3/7/08. It has been in the repair shop twice since then and I hope to get it back before the end of May 2008. Sony offered me a replacement refurbished unit, saying the unit is more than 30 days. I refused because I paid for a new TV, not a refurbished unit. When I ask Robert at Customer Relations if this quality is acceptable, his reply is "things happen, and you turned down our offer to exchange it [with a refurbished unit]". Some one at work suggested I take them to Small Claims Court, which Robert replies "that is your peragative". Compare this to my friend's Mitsubishi TV bougt in Nov 2007 and my parent's Samsung TV bought in Dec 2007 which are still working fine.

  4. I was going to buy a 52" Sony, but after playing with this set, I'm glad I settled into a 46". The picture is plenty big enough in my living room. And with my Sony home theater system set up, everything works very well.

  5. Lots of LCD TVs out there so buying one can be overwhelming. We are enjoying this set lots.

  1. The VIZIO VX37L - 37" LCD HDTV exceeded my expectations. Model 10A from TigerDirect had more features than the model 20A purchased at a local store. Be sure see if you have a model choice and any difference between them. Both TVs were similar in price, but the TV from TigerDirect was delivered to my door at a lower price and faster than expected.

  2. broken in 1 year. still with warranty, but they want you to pay shipping for a replacement of RE-Certified TV!

    mediocre customer service. Cold polite.

  3. I love this tv!! After much research I finally chose to purchase this tv. It is great for what I need for it. The picture is excellent, as long as you are at the right distance, but that goes for any larger tv. I would definately recommend this unit.

  4. I got this television about 1 year ago for $800 (including 8% CA tax) at Costco.
    And I love it!

At first, I thought the picture quality could use a little improvement (needed more crisp). But, my eyes quickly got used to it and I was satisfied with the picture.

The sound quality is good as well.

Further, I like the appearance of it & the remote is nice looking too.
The design & color scheme is nice, and I can see it matching a lot of decor themes/colors.

Also, it is easy to clean!

Personally, I don't like widescreen views when they stretch the picture horizontally (makes things/people appear wider--not at all figure flattering!).. so I set the television view to "normal" so the (left &right) sides are blackened to adjust the picture to it's intended dimensions and not stretched horizontally to accommodate the widescreen. (The television view can be adjusted to: normal, wide, panaromic, & zoom)

Overall, I would recommend it! :)
(One may question why would a nice television be so economical versus the other HDTV brands..Vizio is a relatively new brand--since their reputation is not concisely established, I assume that they may have their products at more affordable rates to reach wider customer bases)

  5. I have heard this unit get so many bad reviews for some odd reason. I recently purchased a refurbished unit for $600. That's a steal when looking at the tv market now adays. The unit is absolutely stunning and produces a really high quality picture. I'm a bit of a gamer and have my PS3 hooked up through an HDMI cable and it looks absolutely superb. I also have an Xbox 360 hooked up through the composite cables, and even with the factory cables there is a definitive difference. I consider myself a pretty big gamer and this TV is exactly what I was looking for. I don't need a TV that's going to cost so much that I have to re-mortgage my house but I also don't want one that is going to look like it was a budget item. The sound is simply wonderful and it is simply hooked up to an surround sound system. I was a little skeptical at first but after a lot of research and actually receiving the unit I am nothing but please with it. For anyone on a budget and cannot afford a more high end model this is the tv your looking for. It might not have some of the little extras that the more expensive television sets have but at that price who can complain.

5 comments about Samsung FPT5884 58-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV.
  1. This was sold by vans and came a day early. There was no damage and was in perfect condition. The TV itself is as good as I expected. The black-levels are the best I have seen (this is my 3rd flatpanel) and picture quality is fantastic. When watching hi def content, I do not see any artifacts. The speakers are on the side and face the rear of the TV, causing poor sound quality. They have a very weak sound, but I usually use my home theater speakers anyway. I hung this on the wall with a PeerLess mount myself. I also use it play my Xbox 360 and have not had any problems with burn-in. The picture quality is just stunning and at 58" it just sucks you in.

Overall, I am completely satisfied with the purchase and got it at a great price.

  2. I bought this TV last month and it is great! My recommendation is to
buy the Plasma and not the LCD.

  3. There is still a somewhat limited market for plasmas larger than 50"; basically you have Panasonic, Pioneer, LG, Samsung, then maybe a Vizio or a Hitachi, depending on model year.
I compared the 58" 1080p versions from Panasonic and Samsung against the 60" from LG and Pioneer. The color, contrast, moving images, and contouring on this Samsung was obviously better than the LG, about the same as the Panasonic, and maybe a little less color intensity than the Pioneer.
THE difference with Samsung comes down to price. A very comparable picture with the Panasonic for $300 - $500 less on Amazon or other sites, and over $1,500 less than the 60" 1080p Pioneer, which was still over $4,000 as of May 2008. If you can see $1,500 of difference from the Pioneer to the Samsung, then God Bless ya' and you should opt for the Pioneer. 98% of us can not see a $1,500 difference from the Pioneer, and that's what the Samsung came down to for me. I couldn't notice a single difference from the Panasonic picture side-by-side in Circuit City, and the Samsung was even $400 less than the Panny. Everything else between the two was basically even, so the $400 lower price on Amazon pushed me to the Samsung.

Features are pretty darn close on most of these models, so the option this Samsung had that 2 others did not was PIP. Not having PIP isn't a deal breaker for most people, but it's pretty darn nice to have since each side-by-side picture is the equivalent of over a 30" TV sitting there.
In conclusion, the SD and HD pictures on the Samsung were just too equal to the Panny and the Pioneer, and it costs much less with the same warranty. If you can find a better 58" plasma picture for less than the $2,500 I paid for the Samsung, the calendar will say 2009 or beyond by the time you find one.

  4. I did not buy the TV from (or through) Amazon.com. Instead I purchased it from another West Coast retailer, because back in February, 2008 it was cheaper.
In 5 months since I bought it the only problem I'd had was a single flickering pixel close to the middle of the screen, and it was visible only in 1080p "Just Scan" mode. After two visits from a Samsung technician, the central logic board was replaced, and that issue does not happen anymore. For settings, I am using slightly modified CNET recommendations. Picture quality is just perfect in HD mode and very good in SD. Even VGA input from my HTPC looks fine at 1920X1080 resolution. I wish the TV had 4 HDMI inputs like this year Samsung models, and that is the only complaint so far. Otherwise, I see no improvement in the picture quality comparing it with 2009 58" models. Pretty sure that the super-high contrast ratio all new plasma models claim is just that - claims :)
And, since nowadays the cost of this TV dropped to below $[...] (I paid way more) - I wish I waited a bit. On the other hand, I've thoroughly enjoyed this plasma for some time now. LCD TVs picture quality is not even close, especially for movie watching.

  5. This is the first time I have purchased a big ticket item on the internet. I was a little nervous about it at first, but had to try. I found the tv I wanted on Amazon and went to my local Circuit City to check out the tv in person. The price on Amazon was $1500 cheaper than in the store and on Amazon I also saved on sales tax and had free delivery, so that is another couple hundred easy. 6ave did everything as promised and the delivery was within a 4 days.

The tv has an awesome picture. We are huge sports fans and this is the ultimate for sports watching and gaming. I was a little concerned about glare and almost went LCD because the opposite wall from my tv is all windows. No glare at all, the anti glare screen works great. I would and will recommend this tv, amazon and 6ave to everyone, I actually have a neighbor that has purchased the same setup.

5 comments about Sharp Aquos LC46D92U 46" LCD Flat Panel HDTV.
  1. This is an excellent LCD HDTV to buy. I did a lot of research before deciding upon the Sharp Aquos LC46D92U. The two determining things were: quality and price. There was little doubt after reading many reviews that the Sony Bravia 46XBR4 was the best TV to buy, as far as quality is concerned. It, however, costs more than $500 more than the Sharp.

The next best TV after Sony is Samsung. Once again, picture quality is high. However, Samsung has a problem with its reflective screen. My family room has lots of windows, so I had to rule out the Samsung.

The Sharp had a few excellent things going for it. The 15,000 to one contrast ratio, the 4-millisecond pixel response time, 120 Hz frame rate conversion, and the small footprint of the TV. Also, the blacks are supposed to look like blacks on the picture.

The big negative about the Sharp TV was that some people, including CNET, said that they saw some banding with Sharp TV's. The positive was that many people said they did not see any banding at all with this model. Also CNET makes this negative statement: "Sharp also adds a 120 Hz frame rate conversion mode to the spec sheet, which is not the same as a true 120 Hz refresh rate." Whatever that means. Also, some people said that the 120 Hz rate is not that noticeable.

I bought my Sharp from Amazon for $2,000, including shipping. It was shipped by Electronics Expo. The first problem was with the shipping -- there was no tracking mechanism available by Electronics Expo. They give me a window of about five days when it might arrive. After calling their office, they said that they usually call the day before and give us a time for delivery.

Electronics Expo called the day before to say they were delivering the next day. It was a Wednesday and fortunately my wife was off work that day. However, the best the shipping company could give us was a time from sometime between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. They said if we wanted they could call an hour before they were to deliver. However, they also said that if no one answered the phone when they called, the TV would not be delivered. They did call that Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. and delivered at 5:00 p.m. They did do an "into the threshold delivery."

When my wife and I examined the box everything looked to be in good shape. The first thing we noticed that assembly was needed on both the speakers and the base. It took us about 20 minutes to figure out how to do this. It does take two people to do the assembly.

I have Comcast digital cable, and the picture is spectacular, even though it is at 1080i because of Comcast's limitations. There is no banding. Even regular TV looks acceptable. The sound is just adequate, but I have the TV hooked up to my home theater and am enjoying digital surround sound on high definition stations. I do notice that some stations are louder than other stations.

We had the Sharp TV for almost a month now, without any problems. By the way, we signed up for the Sharp Advantage Club at no cost and received three additional months of warranty for the Sharp TV.

Also, I found a Sony remote for $23 that takes over all the TV functions, as well as the functions for the cable box, DVD player, and home theater receiver.

  2. I spent 8 months reading and waiting and watching the 3 bext LCD tvs in the 46" arena. And it was SOOO worth the wait!
I weighed the LCD TVs in the areas of HDMI connections, contrast ratio, response time, refresh rate, and a few more -but most importantly watched the price every week from August '07 to March '08!
The top three brands were Sharp, Toshiba, and Sony using only the top of their lines in the 46" arena -and watched and waited as all three prices dropped significantly after early Feb (Super Bowl) and saved my self over $1,000!
Will update this review after 2 months of using the new TV.
    So far:
    No banding problems
    Great picture after calibrating
Very poor speaker system but adequate if temporary
Easy to assemble stand and speakers
    Aboslutely NO glare at all
    Great viewing angles
Easy to hook up: DVD, Cable box, Game system

  3. I love the size and features on this tv and the picture is great - just don't rely on these cheezy speakers that come with it... Just about anything will cause them to vibrate and buzz distorting the sound to near uselessness

  4. I have had this TV for two months now and I am very happy with it. Prime time shows are crystal clear. High speed football and basketball games show no blurring. Higher quality video and sound than I anticipated.

I've recommend this unit to a number of friends.

  5. I recently purchased a Sharp LC46D92U after reading the reviews. My set locks up on 61.1 (OTA) and I can't change channels or turn it off without unplugging it. Sharp has decided that it is a signal problem and will do nothing to correct the issue. How can an OTA signal completely take over my TV? I've talked to others in my neighborhood with other makes of flat panels and they have no problems. Sharp's customer service is the worst!
