  1. I purchased this monitor to go with my MacPro 15" laptop. Because of all the great Amazon reviews, I was all ready to buy a Samsung for about $100 more, but when I saw how crisp and clear my boss's HP display was I changed my mind and purchased the HP L2208w. I love it! The color is a little cooler than my laptop display but it's totally adjustable through the Monitor>Color>Calibration>Advanced control panel. The display is crisp with full color and saturation ranges and nice deep blacks for photograph editing. It took about 3 minutes to get it out of the box, plugged in and in use. At first I used it in duel monitor mode with my laptop but now, most of the time I just leave my laptop closed and use the HP as my sole monitor. It coordinates nicely with my laptop and Apple keyboard too. The only thing I don't like about it is the adjustment controls. I can't actually see any labels or icons on them to give a clue what does what, though I think they are there, they're so faint I can't see them. That said, there are an ABUNDANCE of adjustments you can make, everything you can thing of, and if you click around enough, you'll eventually get it exactly where you want it. It's a really great monitor at a fantastic price and I couldn't be happier with it.

  2. Works well good quality, only have had for short while but pleased with its appearance

5 comments about Toshiba REGZA 40RF350U Super Narrow 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV.
  1. I wanted to fit the maximum size TV image in a small space. The Toshiba REGZA super-narrow bezel does that with the tiny frame surrounding the screen. In effect, I was able to fit a 40 inch TV in a space that would typically fit only a 37 inch TV. I read several indepedent reviews of the Toshiba and learned that the image quality and features matched the top-reviewed LCD HDTVs. I am very pleased with the image quality and performance of the TV. I have a 42 inch Samsung plasma, and the image quality of the Toshiba is superior.

The only real complaint I have is a slight delay in moving channels up and down (rather than instantly changing the channel).

  2. The Toshiba 40RF350U, is a terrific TV. No green shift is evident in mine as has been reported elsewhere. One tip for PC users, if you use HDMI to get 1920x1080, use the "document" picture mode. It looks fantastic! This TV. is awesome for gaming. I play FPSs mainly and there is no blur to be found.

The tuner in the unit is great. It is able to pull in stations I couldn't get on my Dell 32". The signal strength indicator and tools in the advanced menus were very helpful. Over all layout of the settings menus is very good. Nice an intuitive.

I am very happy with this set.

  3. Toshiba REGZA 40RF350U Super Narrow 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV
The TV is excellent state of the art LCD TV!! The picture clarity, ease of operation, output/input capabilities allow the utmost viewing enjoyment whether off the air, DVD, or cable. I would reccommend it to anyone...It is what I have come to expect from Toshiba.

A word about the Amazon.com provider from Nashville TN. Their customer service rep was excllent in manner and knowledgeble. The TV arrived factory fresh (as advertised) and in great working condition straight out of the box.

As you can ascertain I am a very satisfied HDTV owner.

  4. I owned this television for 60 days at which point thin lines began to appear. Apprently, the LCD Panel needs to be replaced. Now toshiba says that it is going to be until November that the part is available. They have been unwilling to replace and VERY unhelpful. I will never buy another piece of Toshiba electronics as long as I live.

  5. I purchase this TV in February and it was great the first 30 days. Then the TV screen started to flash in and out until the screen went black. I could hit the stand and it will sometime work or I need to turn off and back on. I have had this problem since March and the reapair man has been out 6 times now. Still have a broken tv and Toshiba has not offered to replace. Not sure if I received a defective TV or if this particular TV is bad.

    Good Luck.

5 comments about Sony Bravia Z-Series KDL-40Z4100/S 40-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Silver.
  1. I was looking for a 40" LCD and narrowed it down to the Sony 40Z4100, Sony 40XBR4, and Samsung LN40A750... I've previously owned a 46" Samsung LN-T4665F and a Samsung LN-T3253H so naturally I wanted to go back to Samsung. The picture on the 750 is amazing but side by side, in multiple stores, I just couldn't take my eyes off the Sony LCDs. I then was stuck between the Sony 40XBR4 and the 40Z4100...
I had my heart set on the XBR4 since it was Sony's top of the line product last year, but when I saw that this years 40" XBR6 and XBR7 were going to have identical specs to the Z4100, (granted Contrast Ratio will probably be higher on the XBR's,) it came down to the simple question of:

Do I want to spend $2500+ on the new XBR or $1700+ on the Z4100??

I have to say I'm extremely happy with my decision to save a few bucks and go with the Z-series. The picture quality is breathtaking in both HD and Blu-Ray. Standard TV is top notch as well but I'm blown away with the detail, color, and overall picture this TV offers. You really can't lose if you're going with any of these 3 TV's but I'm so glad I went with the Z-series. Its thin frame is hardly seen and the TV is almost 20 lbs lighter than the XBR4... The Sony 40Z4100, is hands down, my choice for a 40" LCD.

  2. I have been using an old 27 inch Zenith for over 6 years and the color was really starting to bleed so I started looking into lcd tv's and found the sony KDL-40Z4100/B and was very impressed with the features that it offered. I spent at least a month researching tvs but still came back the the sony. The sony tv was a bit more than the others but my parents have a 52" JVC HD-ILA tv and this I feel is no comparison to mine now. I find myself watching the HD stations the majority of the time but am also very impressed at the regular channels. I really like the slim bezel design, it helps give the tv a lighter foot print.

  3. Perfect size, perfect picture, great sound (even without a home theater sound system), plenty of HDMI inputs for Blu-ray, Cable, etc. Great to finally have a widescreen for my Nintendo Wii too.

Stop searching for the best HD TV, this is it!

  4. Lots of research went into selecting this television, both on-line and in the store. The picture & sound quality is outstanding and more features than we need right now. After waiting for weeks at Sears, we finally gave up and ordered it from Amazon and had it in a few days! The delivery service was superb! This TV looks great too, especially because of the really thin bezel...it seems like a bigger picture than 40". Completely pleased with this Sony!

  5. I have the 40 inch version and while the HD is amazing, I think where it will stand out to the average users is it's ability to upscale standard definition signals. It does an amazing job. I have (non-HD) Dish Network (at least until AT&T's U-verse is available on my block) and this set gives my Dish Network subscription a new lease on life.

The other killer feature is the 'favorites' button on the remote. It will allow you to select which input to view by a animated, ribbon like menu of icons (XBR) that you can somewhat customize. This makes it simple to change sources for those less likely to understand HDMI1, HDMI2, Component 1, Composite, etc.

Picture quality is flawless. The only thing it doesn't have is...wait, it's not missing anything. This costs more than most it's size but it fits smaller spaces since the speakers are under the LCD and the frame around the LCD is less than 1 inch.

This set gave me the most bang for the space, not buck. It's not the cheapest but I have no buyer's remorse either - and I AM cheap.

  1. After much research I bought this TV through Amazon, and after 3 days it had a snowy picture. After spending a great deal of time confirming that the problem was in the set, not my cable set-up, I had to send it to a repair shop (at my cost!). While the Samsung customer service people were friendly and apologetic and the vendor (BuyDig) refunded the shipping, I have been without the TV for 10 days now and the parts are on backorder until who knows when?

This policy, whether its Amazon's or Samsung's, sucks. I pay almost $700 and get left hanging, waiting for a defective TV that will now always be suspect. DO NOT BUY A TV FROM AMAZON IN THIS WAY AGAIN! DEMAND THAT DEFECTIVE SETS GET IMMEDIATE REPLACEMENT, NOT A REPAIR NIGHTMARE!

  2. Once it is properly installed, this TV is top-notch! Its color is superb, definition unbeatable, and it has full controls of all parameters. It was very complicated to set up, and I had a professional do that for $100 plus. Even he had to come back three times to get it straight and to make it work with my VCR and DVD units.

  3. I purchased this tv on Jan. 22, 2008 and had no problems at all until about Mar. 11, 2008. Just a few weeks over the time limit to send it back to Amazon and get a replacement. Then the high pitched sound started. Once the tv was on for an hour or two it would develope a high pitched whine coming from the back of the set and continued the whole time the set was on.
I contacted Samsung and they had me send it to NJ for repairs. Well, I got the set back from NJ today (after almost 3 weeks) and it doesn't even look like the same set. When I sent it in for repair I sent it in the original box with all original packing and it arrived today in a different box with different packing. My brand new tv (barely 3 months old) that left here without a mark or scratch on it, was covered in scratches, back and front.Further unpacking revealed a 1" diameter hole in the front left corner that was broken out of the set along with pieces of plasitc that just fell out of the packing. I was also completely missing the oval base plate that I originaly sent.
I contacted Samsung again and they said to return it once again to the repair shop in NJ to see what they had to say about it ? So much for Samsung's warranty and customer service, it's beginning to look like I'm out almost $700.00 for a beat up, broken, missing parts tv. It's really a shame too because before the noise started up and I had to send it in for repairs it was a nice tv and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it.
All I can say is "Good Luck" if you purchase this set and I hope that you don't encounter the noise and have to send it to NJ for repairs.

  4. I love this TV. Used it for half a yr AWESOME. Use it as my monitor for my desktop. Play all my playstation 3 games on it, watch all my blu ray and dvd on it. Watch all my sports tv with in. Perfect for a small room, great color, great quality, GREAT PRICE. I enjoy every second i use this tv.

  5. the tv is a beauty to look at & watch.i particularly like the clarity of the picture & the must,a remote jack.the set graces my porch & is in use ever day.

  1. My primary goal was to get a large screen TV that is good with regular Non HD channels because most of the channels that my family watches are Non HD being Indian language channels which may take a few years to convert to HD. So I recently purchased an LCD from a big name TV maker 46 inch 1080P and did not have a very good image when viewing Non HD Indian satellite channels. I am not sure if this is just an issue with that particular set or with the model itself. I returned that TV and got a Sharp LC52D43U and am much satisfied with the image of Non HD channels. The packaging, the stand and overall externals also looked quite good. I cannot rate the reliability of the Sharp TV because I have had it for just a week but the picture quality for Non HD is good. There are two dimensions to enjoying a large screen TV. One is the larger image and the other is the better quality / higher resolution picture. If you watch a lot of Non HD content, it is best to ask the sales person to hook up the TV of interest to an antenna or regular cable and test the set out for the picture quality because there are a lot of large screen 1080P TVs out there that have poor picture quality for Non HD channels.

  1. The Sharp LC-46SB54U is a no frills, value based 46" LCD 1080P HDTV. The picture on this TV is really good. I compared it in-store with newer Samsung technology right next to it, and it compared favorably. I was worried about its sound capability when I heard it in-store, but when I hooked it up at home, the sound is actually quite good...especially with the simulated surround sound turned on.

Most menu functions are intuitive and easy to navigate, the exception being the channel add/delete function. When you power on the TV, a wizard guides you through some initial setup, including scanning for channels. This process scanned more than 150 extra blank channels into the lineup, which I had to delete out manually. This was a royal pain. Hopefully these settings will persist even if there is a power outage.

The anti-glare capability of the screen is very good, but this greatly diminishes the quality of the view you have when you are not looking at the screen straight on. Even though the specs brag of 176 degrees horizontal, I estimate that at about the 120 degree mark the screen doesn't look good enough to even worry about watching. The 6ms response time allows this TV to display very high motion video without blurring...I have been quite pleased with the TV in this area.

The stand is very solid, and the TV is very attractive looking. I was surpised how light the TV was for its size. I was able to pick it up by myself and set it on a 20" high stand. Yet the TV feels like it is built with quality.

A 46" LCD TV is actually significantly bigger than a 42", and this one isn't that much more money...in fact it can be had cheaper than many of the 42" and even 37" TV's out there. If its more important to have a bigger TV than to have 120Hz, PIP, Universal remote, etc. than this may be the TV for you.

    Pros:
Good Value, Great Picture, Good Sound, Well Built

    Cons:
Channel Add/Delete, Viewing Angles, Poor Instructions

  2. This tv set has only 1 good thing about it: picture quality.

Picture is excellent, blacks/whites really do make this tv stand out from the rest of the other brands.

The reason why i gave this a 2 star rating is because I'm into video games and I play my xbox 360 on this tv a lot and there's a very annoying "blink out" whenever playing a game above 480p.

Now, I've read reports of sharp other sharp models having this issue, but was provided a firmware update (i guess enough people complained). Problem is, i've had the tv for a month now and so i'm unable to return for a refund/exchange.

Sharp does have a manufacturer warranty for 1 year after purchase, but i've contacted sharp and haven't heard any replies to my inquiries. I'm very upset at this fact as I cannot fully enjoy the console i play the most.

Funny thing is, i use my xbox 360 using component cables and it seems like the problem lies within the component inputs trying to autodetect the cables/signal. HDMI is fine w/the ps3 (no blinking whatsoever), i've tested other component cables w/different types of equipment and have reproduced the problem.

I'm still waiting for a response from sharp, as I've call 9x already about it, was told "we'll call you back" (along those lines); such horrid customer service.

Maybe I should've gone for a 42" Sony XBR. Now that's a company that hasn't let me down (so far)...I felt like I betrayed Sony, but I had to choose a tv w/the better picture quality, only to sacrifice the quality of the product itself.

Next time, Sony, I'll never leave you again.

5 comments about Philips 47PFL5603D/27 47-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV.
  1. I got this from my local warehouse for a great price. The TV has superb picture quality. Fabulous sound with 30W 2.1 speakers behind the TV.

I have a window in front of the TV and there is no glare on the LCD, which used to be a big problem on my standard CRT tv before.

I hooked it up with a philips dvd player (DVP 5992/37) with 1080 upconversion and the picture and sound are perfect.

I would have liked to have the Picture in Picture (PIP) feature, but it seems absent in philips models.

And it is energy star certified, consumes less power in standby. It also plays MP3 and picture slide show directly from USB connected flash drives/cameras.

It was also able to find clear QAM signals on my basic cable connection, so I could watch a few HD channels including CBS, NBC which were great looking. Philips also provides firmware updates for the TV, so in time, they could improve features.

  2. After much on-line research of available large screen lcd's, settled on this Philips. Very pleased with this product. Delivered fully assembled including stand. Install took less than 10 minutes. Audio and video both very good.

  3. I've been selling this particular model for about three months and I've been very impressed with how well it has held up against not just constant demo usage but from customer feedback as well.

First off I must warn all potential customers that with any high definition television you MUST HAVE A HIGH DEFINITION SERVICE if you want your channels to look as awesome as those televisions on the show room floor. Televisions do not magically take a cable signal from a coaxial cable and make it high def. That said, with the 1080P picture quality you can also enjoy the high definition if you have an up conversion DVD player, a Playstation 3, or an XBox 360 Elite/Halo 3 console so long as you have an HDMI cable to transfer the signal. Sadly, the Wii console only sends out a maximum signal of 480 which is not high def.

To compliment the 1080P picture quality is the 29,000 contrast ratio. Most economy-class televisions under $2000 sport around a 2000-8500 contrast ratio, which is OK but let's face it; like the song by Queen you want it all and you want it now. Samsung A3 series typically sport around 8500 contrast while economy-priced Sony Bravias are even less, making the Philips 29,000 far superior.

On top of that, the quality and endurance of the Philips 47 is top-notch. In my eight years of selling screens, Philips is one of the longest lasting if not the longest in the economy-class. They don't use cheap parts like Emerson, Sanyo, or RCA but have the same (if not better) picture as a Samsung or Sony. I hardly see any Philips returned and if they did, it's usually because they want to upgrade to the 52-inch.

The sound isn't bad for a big screen but, like any other, it is designed to be complimented by a surround sound. Nonetheless, depending on the acoustics of the room this model can operate fairly well without one although don't expect a true Pro-Logic II experience.

All-in-all the Philips 47 does something few other screens can; give the economy-class shopper a screen that dominates in picture quality making it affordable to all who want to experience true high definition.

  4. This is a really good TV. It looks and sounds great. Connection is easy. We installed it with a wall rack that fit no problem. I waited 15 years to upgrade my TV but I wanted a good one that was reasonably priced. This is the one.

  5. As I type these words, I am watching them on this very screen, and I thoroughly regret purchasing this TV.

I got fooled by the specs where they said:

    * Flicker Free 1080p - It doesn't really give an acceptable, stable 1080p picture. The picture wobbles and squiggles periodically, making you hold your breath in between these occurrences, hoping it's gone away.

    * "typical" 5ms response time - No. If you calibrate it with software or console-games like Guitar Hero or Rock Band, the lag is in excess of 120ms. If you connect your PC, it gets worse. When is it 5ms? In the menus, perhaps?

So.. If good 1080p picture-quality, gaming or PC connectivity is what you're looking for, then this TV isn't for you.

Oh, and the "game-mode" on this TV gives you an INTERLACED picture that still lags far beyond 5ms. Hohum, 1080 PROGRESSIVE indeed. UselessPhilips 47PFL3603D 47-Inch Widescreen 1080p LCD HDTV.

I guess you got me this time, Philips. Got me good.
