5 comments about Sony Bravia Z-Series KDL-46Z4100/S 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Silver.
- Wonderful picture! XBR4 is a bit sharper but not enough that taken as a whole this isn't the winner. Plan on using external speakers.
- As a previous owner of a Sony 40XBR4, I was skeptical of a Sony set that was not one of the XBR series. Consequently, I discovered the "Z" series which has most of the XBR features, but at an even better price.
The KDL-46Z4100/B is one great set with a picture to match. This model doesn't have the x.v color feature, but has all the other bells and whistles of the XBR for hundreds less.
The "Z" series features a TV Guide programming feature. Since most people have either a digital cable box or satellite receiver, I question how many out there could actually make use of this feature.
Checking out the Xross Media Bar setup menu it is easy to get lost in the amazing amount of controls available to the user. This may look like a minus, but it is really a plus.
LCD TVs are known for their slimness, but this model really outdoes the competition. With a one-inch thickness, it should fit most anywhere--especially on the wall.
If you are looking for a state-of-the-art LCD TV, look no farther than the KDL-46Z4100 series. Its picture and features will amaze you.
- Many folks are going for the samsung lcds because the blacks look blacker.
but those tv's have a glass screen that reflects everything. This tv is sharper than a xbr4 or xbr5 , those were last years models. the engine in this tv is equivalent to a xbr6. I replaced a great 50 inch sony sxrd
tv with this one. Sony's newer 52's didn't have all the features of this one. the s, v, and w's are fine tv's but they don't have deep color the new color standard that future discs will have. Nor do they have x.v. color which is here already and is used in digital photos. this one does. the w does have 24fps or film speed that words with a ps3 or blu ray player to show a movie in it's real speed. Of course this isn't a benefit for older dvd's as they are processed in a 2:3 rate anyways. that means that one frame is dropped for every 3 shown. but for blu ray this feature rocks. And like ALL lcds standard non hd tv looks ok but they don't put standard tv on in showrooms. so people take these tv's home and expect it to look like HD content. this is true for all lcds, plasmas , lcos , dlp's and the rest. But this tv shines with hd content and blu ray. However, I will miss the extra four inches of screen. but this tv is in many ways future proof for a while. the 120hz feature for motion and other features make it one of the best tv's made so far. The toshiba 540 and 550 series are comparible but this tv is the clearest of the new tv's. xbr 7's will come soon but they will be much more expensive. the jump in size from 46" to 52" is also a substantial jump in price. So I can live with a 46" tv with this quality. This tv took 2 days to get to denver. which is great! I picked it up myself as the box and tv are not too large and this means I don't have to hang around waiting for a delivery. I would say that if you have a smaller tv 46' or less go down to ceva wharehouse and get it yourself. This tv though with it's three key features: deep color, x.v. color and 24p or 24 frames per second film speed for blu ray only I would say make this tv in many ways future proof. I knew when I bought the sxrd that new technology wasn't far off that technology is here on the sony z series and it's good enough on the sony to make the tv a keeper for many , many years.
- Ive not got alot to say except if you are looking for
a great LCD/Flatpanel TV, not just a good one, you've found
it. Put it in your car and check out.
You are now the owner of the best LCD on the market.
- Were it not for my current problem, I would rate this TV a 4 or 5. I did exhaustive research on LCD televisions and made repeated trips to stores to compare picture quality and features. I gravitated to this particular set for its small footprint (bezel) around the screen, the exceptional picture quality and the Sony name. I have always known Sony TVs to be high quality and reliable........until now.
I babied this puppy on delivery, as if it were fine crystal. It sits on top of a cabinet, free-standing, with plenty of ventilation in a large room. For 23 days it worked great. Then a powerful windstorm knocked out power in NE Ohio and took down cable across the region. The following day I had the TV on throughout the day as I waited for cable to be restored. Late in the afternoon I noticed vertical lines across the screen instead of simply a blank screen.
The set was totally unresponsive via remote or otherwise. It didn't even work with my Sony DVD player --just random vertical lines and no sound. I called Sony. They put me in touch with their technical repair contractor, QualServe. They sent a tech 8 days later. The guy replaced the heart of the thing....the main processor and circuit board. No change. He was stumped and called Sony. After a long conversation heordered a new LCD screen!! 2 wks for delivery to QualServe then another week for them to send one of their techs out to install the thing.
I am awaiting resolution. When all is said and done, it will be 4 wks of repair time for set I had a mere 23 days.....and given what they're replacing it will essentially be a new TV. My out of pocket costs for the repair? Loss of TV for a month and the bill for the cable I cannot watch. Sony has been responsive and apologetic to a certain point but also unwilling to send a new set in the box.
FOR THOSE ORDERING THROUGH AMAZON --- be advised, I ordered this TV on Amazon from a company called 'OneCall'. Amazon TOTALLY screwed up the purchase and shipping info. Amazon is usually stellar and organized with these things, I do not know what happened. The OneCall people were good to work with however I was surprised they were not more concerned about the mix up.

2 comments about LG 42PG20 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV.
- I have owned several HDTV's both Plasma and LCD. I wanted to stick with a plasma on this purchase because of the superior contrast ratio versus a typical LCD. I went to my local electronics store intent on buying an entry level Samsung. Despite my plan, I soon realized I could not pull the lever on the Samsung. Its picture suffered from severe jagged edges and presented an inferior image quality compared to the TV's surrounding it on the showroom floor. No manner of adjustments could resolve the problem, therefore I moved on to the similarly priced Panasonic and LG. I immediately noticed that the Panasonic had issues with background noise. This was despite the fact that the noise reduction feature was already turned on. The CNET editor review mentions this problem with the Panasonic plasma. Meanwhile I was impressed with the LG's smooth, clear, and lifelike picture. No background noise, and a deep rich color reproduction equal to that of the Panasonic. I decided to do some more research on LG reliablity and performance before making my final decision. As you would expect, it is easy to locate horror stories for any television brand, as of course people with a bad experience are more likely to post their sob story all over the web. The bottom line for myself was that a Consumer Review said that LG has a similar reliability record compared to other major brands, with only 2% or fewer models suffering from defects within their first year. That was sufficient evidence for myself while also taking in to account the 1 year parts & labor warranty (plus 2 years for the panel) provided by LG. I waited for a blowout sale, and then purchased the 42PG20. The first one arrived with a broken screen. Of course Plasma screens are glass unlike LCD's so they are more easily damaged in shipment. I refused shipment and soon thereafter received a replacement which arrived undamaged. Out of the box the LG is one slick & sweet looking plasma. Unlike some people, I prefer the high gloss piano black screen border. Its sleek and more upscale in appearance. I have HDTV running via an HDMI 1.3 cable. The picture is even better than it was in the store. Despite a low 1024x768 resolution, the HD reproduction is detailed and crisp. I was expecting to sacrifice a bit in this area, and am simply ecstatic that the difference between this TV and my previous 1080p is simply insignificant. As you would expect with a plasma, the colors are deep and rich. Unlike many LCD's, sports broadcasts suffer no ghosting or pixelation. SD broadcasts look great as well, with certain channels looking better after switching to cinema mode or one of the other customized picture settings. I have the LG TV ORBITER feature set to the ON position. A nice feature available to prevent image retention or burn in which can be an issue with plasma televisions. So far, this has not been an issue. I will mention a couple of minor negatives. This LG does suffer from severe glare if operated in a brightly lit room. As is the case with many plasmas, the glass screen reflects the bright windows in my living room. Thus, it will do better in a dark room or positioned with windows behind rather than in front of the TV. Also, this plasma runs HOT. It actually raises the temperature in my living room if run for a few hours. If I put my hand over the set, I can feel the heat rising from it. From what I've read, this is common with plasma TV's in general. Overall, I am VERY happy with the LG 42PG20. A great Plasma television, providing a fantastic HD picture while outperforming many of the other brands in this price range.
- After the price dropped on this T.V. I decided to buy.
Wary of plasmas I still loved the high contrast ratio that this one delivered. I had the choice between this and a similar samsung and definately could see that this Lg model gave the better picture. 720p? they could have fooled me because the crispness of picture quality is terrific, one thing I was wary of with this being a 42" model.
The Darks are dark, the whites are white, and the colors are vibrant.
I keep mine set on cinema style settings and love it.
The sound is better than most flat panels and the speakers are hidden.
I like the high gloss finish, makes it look sleek.
Ghosting is minimal on this model and if you do experience some ghosting they supply different ISM methods to basically prevent or actually one called white wash which basically resets your picture. I play a lot of Xbox 360 so I was worried about the ghosting but it is not really a problem. I recently paired this with LG's LHT854 home theatre system (about $220) and am enjoying a high quality home theatre setup for a decent price.
So everyone considering picking up this T.V. I say Enjoy!

- Though considered inferior to 1080 46" models, being only a 720, after viewing this gem's picture quality in a major department store I was sold. Now becoming harder to find I acted timely and am now enjoying HD programming in total satisfaction. Some standard channels will take a little adjusting, but the picture quality seems to be constantly improving day-after-day. And according to test results in recent issues of Consumer Reports, there isn't much difference in 720 and 1080 picture quality amongst the better brands under 50"s.
You'll see the HD superiority after subscribing to it from your cable or satellite provider. And even without an upgrade in DVD players, your movies will still look noticeably sharper. A real bargain purchase.
- I'm noticing while brighter background colors are displayed, and the subject is darker I'm receiving faint gray horizontal lines on the brighter background. It doesn't matter what device the image is coming from, upconvert dvd player, cable reciever, or xbox 360. Its less noticeable on the HD cable signals. Has anyone else discovered this or is this just an isolated case?
- I bought this tv at sears after months of consideration, i work there so i looked at them almost every day, i finally got it for a good price and i havent looked back since! The xbox 360 looks amazing and i watched sin city on it last night omg its amazing. I ordered some hdmi cables on amazon i cant wait to see the improvement, it is all ready great.
- Ordered this product in good faith at a price that was too great to pass up...Amazon conveniently stated that it was mispriced; so they were canceling my order and oh, by the way my Amex was never charged, which by the way is a lie. My Amex was charged through Amazon.com who was in fact given an authorization code. Then Amazon.com told me that they didn't even have this particular T.V. in stock or even sold it...well that's odd too, since here it is. I can clearly see that they do have it in stock.
If you made a mistake cool, pony up to it Amazon.com; but don't lie to the consumer about it. I Didn't really expect to get a T.V. for $40.00, but I also didn't expect to be lied to as to why you can't deliver on what you advertised.
- Saw an outrageous price of $38.45 for this T.V. through My Office Source. Ordered it and immediately received confirmation email two days ago. Today I received the cancellation email and was given no reason for cancellation.

- i bought this lcd tv about 5 days ago and i think if wonderful is easy to use and cheap and best off all is from a reliable brand so you dont have nothing to loose for me the only problem that i had with the tv is adjusting the colors bacause you have to set it manually and it tkae some time but after all of that is a great product.
- This is overall a great TV for the money. But when you change channels it takes about 3 seconds to tune in. This can be annoying if you like to channel surf

- Bought this for kitchen HD.
Good: Nice HD picture. Fairly simple screen navigation
Bad: Horrible connectivity. All the ports are bunched up w/in millimeters of the other- to make matters worse its on the left-hand side.
Ugly: The HDMI connection. When switching between SD and HD sources using your HDMI cable-you will get a blue screen. You will need to cut the power to your source 1-4 times before finally arriving at a picture. I took the first back to BB and they said its something w/the encoding system for the HDMI connector. Hmmm funny, my Panasonic plasma doesn't have that problem.
Summary: its a nice set for a nice price if you can put up w/the maddening problem w/its HDMI switch.
Side bar: I've tried cheap-o HDMI cables and better-made cables and you'll be smart to use the better ones. Yes a digital signal is a digital signal-but brightness is a big issue w/the cheaper ones.
Bluejeans cable or monoprice cable is the way to go.
- I've had this TV/Monitor for about a month, and I've been very happy with it.
The TV works/looks great. Nice remote, easy controls, etc. etc.
As a computer monitor, it is FANTASTIC. The built-in speakers means that I don't need other items cluttering up my desktop. Image is very sharp.
- Pros:
+ Great image quality (HDTV quality), screen also coated with anti-reflective coating (which means that it doesn't reflect light from the background that much, & thus you the screen is not that shiny)
+ Many ports (HDMI, VGA etc), can be used as a computer screen
+ Ultra portable
+ DTV, no digital to analog converter required (Feb 17, 2009 transition to DTV in the USA).
+ Really good for its price
+ Setting up very easy (I also find using its remote control very easy : for eg, while watching DTV, I can change the language, include closed captioning, and check the programming guide.
+ Included in the box: VGA cable to connect this TV to your computer and another one to transfer sound from your computer to the TV speakers. I use my laptop as a DVD player with this TV.
Cons:
- Found only one: I don't find the sound quality that superb. To my ears, the sound sounds as if it is coming from a pair of sound blasters enclosed within a box that is partly open. That is, the sound is kind of muffled - my laptop sound blasters output a much better sound than this HDTV. However, you can always attach your own sound system to this TV to get a better sound.
- this is a great hdtv and i can hook it up to my pc to this is great for the money must buy!!!
- On the positive side: the image is excellent, the system supports a multitude of inputs, the analog tuner works perfectly.
On the negative side: the QAM tuner and the computer that selects the detected stations via the remote are flawed. I connected this TV to my cable without the cable box to watch the clear-QAM digital stations from my cable provider. Autoscan found all of them. But trying to use the remote to select the detected channels are so frustrating that I just stopped trying to use the digital tuner. As I installed two of these TVs and both had the identical problems, I suspect that there is a serious design flaw.
If your purpose for this TV is as a PC monitor, for connection to an antenna, for connection to a DVD or for connection to a cable box (either using the analog output [which makes no sense] or using the digital connections) this might be very acceptable. However, if your application is to use the TV to tune QAM signals, this is not the TV for you.
Westinghouse's tech support was so poorly trained that they did not even know what a QAM tuner was for.
Have returned mine. Proceed corefully.

- OK, so originally put up a video showing off the tv's problem(faulty volume button that would stay at max),without taking the time to even explain anything. The purpose of it was to show that if you're gonna be cheap, be prepared for that risk of receiving a defective product. Of course, I could see why people couldn't interpret this message, especially with no spoken words ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, So on to the review:
I wouldn't recommend sitting any farther than 9ft, because it becomes difficult to focus on small details. The sound is nowhere near amazing, but some adjusting improved it. Captions are customizable to look more attractive, there's also a clock and freeze frame button among other features. It also doubles as a monitor so you can switch from your console to your desktop on the fly. The overall viewing experience is really good. I contacted customer service (very easy to deal with) and am expecting a replacement set within 10 business days.
- This set has an annoying 'feature' that was so irritating we returned the set.
As you change channels, a large grey status panel comes up, with the language, screen format & sound settings. The panel stays on the screen for 4 seconds.
This probably won't happen if you have this hooked up to a cable converter, but if you're pulling straight off antenna or cable, it makes channel surfing intolerable.
The picture and sound were fine.
- I've had this set for less than one year and it is already failing. The set has difficulty starting, looses channels and turns itself off repeatedly. The picture completely fails and the unit screeches and blacks out. The warranty is exceedingly **POOR**. One year on parts, however, when I contacted Magnavox customer support I was told there is no repair service on this model, but they would replace with a new unit for an additional $275.00!!!!(No Warranty??). Avoid this item completely!
- I bought this set dec 10. in the last 2 months we've noticed horizontal lines and shadows. I've checked everything according to cable lines. It is the TV set. The service center admitted that this set does have a picture tube problem. they can fix it for $274.00. I bought it originaly for about that price. I'm really angry that it is dying so soon. All other TV's I've ever owned have lasted for many many years! I really liked this set up till this problem. In my opionion, less than one year for your money is not worth it!
- Our TV just gave out after owning it for less than a year. The power button is lit red but wil not advance. The TV will not go beyond a black screen. I called customer service to be told, for a fee of $274.62 plus tax they will replace it. I can buy the same tv on the web for the $240 range!
Not good customer care or product.

1 comments about Vizio 42" 1080p LCD HD TV - VO42L FHDTV.
- This is a better than average set. The feature set is excellent 4xHDMI etc.
Compared to the VU42 (which we had also), this has a nicer picture and much more control through the menus for Picture and Sound tweaking.
The HDMI worked perfectly with our laptops and good screen controls allows you to adjust margins to use the full screen.
I've had many HD sets over the years, for the money this is a good deal.
Tuner Tip: In our area, Cable doesn't scramble many digital channels, but many are just sound, duplicates or unwanted. This set seems to have a cap of 500+ channels, because while we could tune in more channels, The Channel skip did not show them. But this set has "Partial channel search", which allowed us to manually seek ranges of channels and customize the channels the way we wanted. The VU did not have this and forced us to flip through 50 or so "bad" channels with no way to remove them.

- I've had great experience with LG products - so my purchase of a 47" Full HD set from LG seemed logical.
The picture on my 47LG50 is terrific! Setup out of the box was very intuitive, although I would recommend that the set's picture be set to "standard" instead of "vivid" (torch mode is set by default).
Even when powered off, this set is beautiful. Its piano black case frames the 47" screen very well, although it is more susceptible to fingerprints.
The set offers three HDMI 1.3 inputs and more connection options than one would normally need.
I couldn't give this set a stronger recommendation!
- We priced many tvs and this one was the best bargain for the money! Like the previous reviewer stated, I couldn't give this a higher rating. It's a great LCD!
- Although I did quite a bit of research before buying, I'm no TV expert so take what I say with a grain of salt. I may not be using something correctly or what not.
A very solid 47" TV. Sleek styling, picture looks great, price was certainly right. I have experienced speakers rattling during certain programs and this is with the volume turned down well below it's maximum threshold. Menus are intuiative and coming off my 24" Sanyo Flat Screen Tube TV this is definately a dream come true. As long as quality holds up for the long haul, no question about this being a solid TV. I do have second thoughts about getting a 120 Hz TV as I primary watch sports. I can definately see the infamous "motion blur" during broadcasts, however I don't know that it's worth the extra $1000 or so for a TV that has the higher refresh rate. After much soul-searching I was able to come to the conclusion that I would be more upset if I spent $2500 on a TV, but you may have some thinking of your own to do if you want a lot of sports.
If you're not looking to spend over $2000 on a big screen, then this a definately a good buy!
- After having an LG47 LG50 LCD 80 days the picture goes out and after their tech replaced the mother boards the unit still does not work.It is now three weeks later and I want a new set and LG will not budge on this. They want me to miss another day of work so they can try and fix it again. This set is less that 3 months old.One day of lost wages and three weeks of paying for HD cable that I cannot get.B.S.
DO NOT BUY LG PRODUCTS.
