  1. I bought this TV after two years of watching a fifteen-year-old twenty inch NEC, so naturally it benefits from the comparison. We only use it to watch DVDs and videos and we don't have a hi-def player so I don't know how it compares to other TVs in the hi-def mode, but it regular DVDs look bright, clean, and clear from a viewing distance of twelve feet. We Watched the Lord of the Rings trilogy and it showed up nicely on the 16/9 screen. The sound is tinny compared to the 20-year old Cerwin-Vega speakers through a cheap old Scott amplifier that we use when watching DVDs. For just over a thousand bucks it is a nice TV.

  2. Amazon somehow LOST this TV in transit. Rather than taking responsibility for the loss, they told me they had 10 more days to "find" it and that I should just sit and wait. I begged for a refund, which they would not give. They just kept telling me about their "policies" and how "correct" their associates were. Finally, a full two weeks after the loss, they agreed to refund the money.
The TV meanwhile (bought from Sears and in my car in 5 minutes for $300 less) is great!
Amazon: good prices, but you better hope you don't have any problems because their customer service is non-existant!

  3. Bought TV for the bedroom. I have owned it for a month. TV has excellent picture. Have HD digital cable. Picture compares favorably with 1080p Samsung in the den. DVD's also look good. Easy hookup. On screen menu easy to use. Easy to adjust settings. Sound is very good for the size of the speakers. I have been very happy with this TV.

5 comments about Sharp Aquos LC32D41U 32-Inch LCD HDTV with Integrated ATSC Tuner.
  1. The Sharp LC-32D41U is an impressive display for about a grand. Many LCDs in this price range exibit poor video processing (video noise & edge enhancements), and poor de-interlacing (picture softening during motion). The LC-32D41U does not have these problems. Feed it a high quality source (HD DVD, Blu-ray) and you'll be rewarded with a beautiful picture.

As with most TVs these days, the default video settings are a bit cartoon-ish (over-bright, over-saturated colors, and over-aggressive sharpness). The pleasant surprise is how accurate a picture this set can provide for folks who are willing to do a bit of picture tweaking. For those who don't wish to spend time experimenting with a calibration DVD, try the following settings in the Picture menu: OPC OFF, Backlight -16, Contrast +30, Brightness +8, Color -22, Tint 0, Sharpness -9. In the Advanced Picture sub-menu: Color Temp Mid-High, Black Off, Monochrome Off, Film Mode On. Feed this set a hi def (1080i) signal via HDMI if you can.

A drawback to this set is that the black-level cannot be adjusted to be completely black, even with the Backlight adjustment all the way down. (This is typical for LCDs.) Also, the sound quality from the built-in speakers is mediocre. A home theater surround sound system would be a welcome addition to this set. Aside from that, there's not much to complain about. Anyone looking for a reasonably priced flat panel TV should take a close look at Sharp's D41 series sets.

  2. Color, sound, looks all fine. Found the manual to be overly complicated. Still dont know if stereo sound is working as the indicator keeps changing from mono to stereo. Also, cant tell if HD is working as the regular picture is so much better than the set it replaced. This could be a provider problem.

  3. We ordered this TV on November 18th. Out of the box it displayed nothing but brightly colored lights. We tried to resolve the issue, calling customer service and checking on-line help etc. After days and days of frustration with customer service, they insisted we send them digital photos of what the TV display looked like, I guess they didnt believe what we were telling them. We sent pictures, and after we nagged them relentlessly for several MORE days they agreed to have the TV serviced. Several days after that a local TV repair shop called to make an appointment, and we assumed they would actually fix the TV since we were also told a board would be sent to them. All they did was take the TV back to their shop, they'll be in touch in a "few days". Here it is a month later and we still dont have a working TV. What a disappointment all the way around.

  4. I've had this TV for a few months now, and it's performance has been flawless. The picture is gorgeous. (NB: Change the "mode" to standard instead of dynamic, which is the garish factory setting.) The 6ms response time means no blurring. Not a single bad pixel.

My usual picture, which I receive through Dish Network satellite, is very good, but I got an extra bonus that I didn't expect. I stuck an old rabbit ears and bow tie antenna to the antenna jack just for laughs, and lo and behold, I now receive fabulous High Definition broadcasts from all the local stations. This was totally unexpected, because I barely got standard TV signals (thus, the satellite). Caution: Most of the source material isn't recorded in high-def, even though it's a "high-def broadcast". But when you have a real high-def picture, believe me, you'll notice the difference! Watching sports in high-def is a revelation.

Final advantage: HDMI jacks for the best possible connection to your DVD player, etc. Highly recommended.

  5. I bought this TV on 10/9/06 and in 5/08, with the warranty expired, the TV began to lose the picture completely, no menus no picture. It did this periodically for short periods of time at first and now it spends the majority of the time just black with sound. I guess I will have to try to get it repaired but am pretty sure that I am just screwed. I purposely purchased this TV (which was more expensive than comparable sets) because of the superior picture quality and the EXPECTATION that it was of better quality than them, in other words as an investment. I am extremely disappointed and the company has pretty much responded to my call to them by saying, "Tough break, try to fix it." They have not responded to emails.

5 comments about Sharp LC19SB24UW 19-Inch 720p LCD HDTV, White.
  1. There aren't many 19 inch white LCD TVs to choose from, but this is a winner. To begin with, the styling is great with a narrow white shiny plastic bezel. The set is small and light-weight for the picture size and looks great in our kitchen. This set does not carry the Aquos moniker, so is to be considered entry level.
It should not be confused with the LC19 SK24UW, which costs $50 more and has a magnetic remote with a digital clock on the back. Otherwise, the 2 models seem to be the same. Set up is easy and there are plenty of inputs on the back. The set can also be wall mounted, but the mount is not included. Picture and sound are excellent, considering the small speakers, but be sure to use an hdmi cable for sharpest, most colorful picture. HD is outstanding. A large number of control settings allow a good range of adjustment for brightness, color and contrast. Some minor issues, which I have seen in all LCDs this size, is that the picture appears darker when viewed from some angles, and the stand does not tilt. Overall, I can recommend and would purchase again.

  2. Just got this TV last weekend - it's beautiful on and off. Picture is sharp. Programming/setup is easy. Remote control is well organized. I like the "favorite channel" which are grouped in separate buttons.

Only minor complain is the manual or online should have better information about the digital channel. Since this TV has ATSC+QAM, you can receive unscrambled digital channel from the coaxial cable straigth to the TV. However, the TV groups the digital channels separately from the analog (instead of intertwine). There were no mention of this on the manual or online.

The seller (thru Vann's) was great - they update the progress of the purchase via email at every stage. Got the TV on the date as promised.

Overall- I think this TV is great.

  3. I was hesitant to buy a television online because you can stand in the store and see a great difference in picture quality between sets running side by side. I am very pleased with this set and the reviews written by others was the main reason I chose it. The picture quality is outstanding and the set is beautiful hanging on my wall. I placed this in the kitchen and I love the fact that it is white, so it doesn't stand out like a sore thumb on my wall. This set is beautiful whether it is on or off.

  4. This is a beautiful addition to my kitchen and I love everyhting about it as the white looks great in my kitchen. The picture is fantastic and I use this with a DirecTV HD reciever. My only complaint about this TV is the volume. I have to turn it to the max setting to watch HD and thats all I like to watch anymore since I have DirectTV. Even at the max setting the volume is not high enough to hear if you have other noise going on (it's a kitchen) and I end up sometimes switching to non HD where the volume is acceptable, but only turned up almost to the max. I have played with the different volume settings and always the same result. I have even tried non HDMI cabling to see if that helped, but it did not. I realize that the DirectTV broadcast could be to blame and HD programming I have read is usually at a lower volume, but my 65" Mittsubishi in my living room has none of these problems. Today I'm going to try buying a mini stereo so I can set up a few external speakers and run the sound through them. All in all a wonderful TV that I would have given five stars to if not for this volume problem. Don't let it stop you from buying the TV. It's more anoyance than it is a huge problem.

  5. This is a great T.V....The picture is clear, the stand tilts, is has the energy star, it does not manipulate the image, as in, it does not make the people on the television short and stubby( which was one on my main concerns), It's easy to assemble, I don't find a problem with the volume, I think the volume is ok for this size tv..All in all this is a great and beautiful tv...I bought it based on the reviews that I read, and they are all accurate...The best thing of all that I find about the tv, which is the main reason I bought it, is that is light weight...I am in college and the tv that I had is pretty good but it was one of those that had a big back, which made it difficult for me when it was time to move, because I could not lift it...I had to get someone to move it for me...I am very happy with this tv...
