  1. I purchased my 1940ci in November of 2007. We don't watch many DVD's, so it was about a week before we used it...it was a great unit...for a total of two movies. About 3 weeks later we went to watch another movie and the unit was dead. I contacted Denon who had me send it to thier repair facility in New Jersey. I live in Arizona. Over 6 weeks later I received it back with a repair tag that said there were two loose solders. I can forgive that. Things happen in shipping. Then, after being out of town for two months we sat down and watched a movie, worked well. a couple weeks later....again, no power...unit was dead again. So in about 6 months I was able to view 3 movies and the unit died twice. I have a Monster Power 5000, so I know it's not a power surge problem. I called Denon again, after emailing them and getting no reply in over a week, and they told me I could send it in again. I asked if they could refund my money, or at least allow me to exchange it at a local authorised dealer...the answer was a resounding NO. send it in or we won't help you. I told them the unit was obviouisly a lemon, the reply was "we never said our units were perfect". My issue isn't so much with quality, the unit was fine...all three times it worked. My issue is with Denon not caring that I paid a very high price for a product based on their reputation for building great quality product, and then not offering me anything but another 6 week plus wait to use it again. Their rep just didn't care. I'll go back to my Pioneer Elite products...I have had them for a long time and only minor problems there.

  1. I bought a similar LG dvd recorder/ VCR combo, and it did not even last a year on me. It won't recognize and DVD's I put into it. Look into buying another brand.

  1. I need a video recorder that has a built-in tuner. Not devices that require a converter box that costs money per month to rent from a cable company.

  1. As others have reviewed my unit's TV screen went blank just a couple weeks out of warranty. Sent it to Audiovox and was charged for repair. One year later the screen has broken again.
Very poor quality for what we paid. Horrible warranty.
Would not recommend this. Go for the Sony!

  2. This is a very nice unit.. it was easy to set up and install, the controls are super easy to use. Nice, clear picture. I recomend this TV to everyone.

  3. Received the unit and it almost immediately had video problems. Installation went well and the product looks good. But the screen would blank out after a few hrs of being on and the audio would continue to work.

Sent back to seller who promptly sent a new unit. So far so good.

  4. The product is the best deal for you money. It is a great product which delivers on all promises...the hardest part was the installation but that too was made easy with the clear instructions and drilling diagram and mounting brackets...all included. Highly recommend, I doubt you'll find a better product with this size screen for less. Plus service is really good and a reputation to back it up. Would purchase from them again. Thanks and happy shopping. Dave

  5. I really love this TV/DVD/Radio/CD/Clock/AM/FM Radio and speaker phone. Yes,it is even a speaker phone if you plug it into a telephone jack. It can be used as a baby monitor with a few add ons.

The best thing is that it is very slim and compact, you barely see it under the counter until you pull the screen down. It has a 10.2" wide-screen LCD TV. It of course doesn't have the picture quality that a plasma has but it is fine for the kitchen. I love being able to put in a DVD for my grandkids while they eat their lunch and watch the news while fixing breakfast.

  1. Having trouble with tracking on VCR. Cannot find a way to adjust it, and would cost too much to repair.

  2. very easy to set up and works well. The buttons on the remote are easy to find and use

  3. My Mom has one of these. I have spent the last couple of days trying to get it to play different burned DVDs (exact copies). I've tried 3 different types of media (+R -R and -RW) from 4 different manufacturers, burned on two different PCs and it won't play any of them. The manual says these formats are all supported.

If you like a blue screen that says "Disk Error", this is the machine for you.

  4. This is a steal!! Works great and is very easy to use. You're able to record a program on VHS and watch a DVD at the same time. I bought one and ended up buying two more. I would recommend this unit to anyone. Everything in video/audio is changing so quickly at the moment....if you need a combo unit, don't spend any more $ than this! One minor complaint. There isn't a time/channel/counter display on the front of the unit. Oh well, I got over it!

  1. I bought this in November and am deeply disappointed. The VCR did not work, it played sound, but no picture. The DVD player displayed subtitles no matter what I did. After several torturous hours with the Samsung customer service, they finally agreed I had a problem and had me mail it back to them (at my expense). I received the same machine back, and nothing was fixed.

I refuse to argue with the Samsung customer service people again, I am junking this machine,

  2. DVD player plays sound but no video. This happened after a little over a year of limited use.

  3. I purchased this Samsung DVD-VCR combo in March of 2006. It worked flawlessly, until a year later. Now most vhs tapes won't play (constant lines, sound goes in and out and tracking doesn't work), and now the dvd has quit working. It will only play certain dvd's, for most others (especially ones by Universal) it makes this horrible sound while trying to read the disc, and eventually, a screen comes up saying "dvd is not playable- please check disc". I have checked the discs that are so-called "unplayable" on my stand-alone dvd player, my computer dvd player and even on my portable dvd player, and the discs worked fine in all 3 machines.

The best word to describe this piece of electronics is junk- pure junk. I thought Samsung would be reliable, as I had purchased a Samsung tv many years ago that still works! It's sad that the quality of today's electronic products are getting worse and worse. I will be replacing this thing- and dumping it in the trash. It's not even worth giving to Good Will!

  4. We have hardly used this player and already it is broken. The DVD door will not open any longer, and to remove our son's DVD we are going to have to take the whole thing apart! We were disappointed from the get go with how SLOW it worked. It takes a long time to load and skip scenes. NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY! Buy another brand altogether. When we replace this one, WE WILL!

  5. I was looking for a slim DVD player that would allow me to streamline my equipment in my home office. This Samsung made the grade. The unit is easy to operate and looks marvelous set on an acrylic shelf above my HD player. Much better than the old one that took up too much space and didn't fit into my decor.

  1. I love it.

  2. I bought this item because the price was right and the features were what I was looking for, but I can't say I'm really wow'd by it. I probably should've sent it back, but I'd already tossed the box by time I realized it really wasn't that great of a machine.

I love the sleek fit... it's thin, fits very well under my cabinet, and the swivel of the TV is perfect. But the sound quailty is a bit tinny... and sometimes you hear a bit of that vibrating rattle sound when the volume is turned up a little loud.

The picture is really iffy as well. It's clear, and I like that the bright/contrast/color controls are handy on the side of the screen, but I've found it hard to get all three adjusted just right. Picture always seems a little too dark or over-exposed looking... and as is typical with LCD I suppose, you really gotta be looking at it at just the right angle to see a clear, properly lit picture.

Overall, for the money it'll work out okay. But I'm wishing I'd waiting till I could afford a higher quality product.

    Tamara in Oregon

  3. I love this product ...it is a great thing to have inthe kitchen under the cabinet while cooking and cleaning...I may buy some after market speaker to connect to it...if the room is larger the sound doesn't travel well...I had one in my first house and when we moved I bought another one...

  1. I got this to transfer VHS to DVD. I was going to use S-Video output for the video portion. Despite the specs on this website indicating that there is one there is no such output jack. I'm thinking of returning it.

  2. my JVC HRXVC15S arrived with a factory defect--a LOUD 60cycle hum via the VHS side. i called VANNS, the seller, and they said call JVC (never going to buy anything from VANNS again...), called JVC and described the problem, they asked a couple of questions that makes me believe that the problem is a known defect, tell me to ship it to them and, no, they don't pay the shpping. so.......never by another JVC product again....
so, i'll try and sell the thing as a DVD player (no hum from that side) for $25 and shop for another (non-JVC) unit.

  3. I recommend buyers look at the Amazon reviews for defunct JVC VHS/DVD
dual deck products before they purchase any current dual deck model.
They have a proven history of extremely poor build quality. JVC keeps
rapidly changing model numbers, which makes this more difficult for
the consumer to discover. However they all look very similar with
    only slight cosmetic differences.

Search on these item numbers and see for yourself:

  1. The TV was great but you need to use cable and I was putting it in the basement and it was going to be a hassle for the cable company to install a cable in that room. I bought the best antenna but it didn't work. The description should have included that cable was necessary. The remote didn't work either. Amazon was great about taking the return.

  2. I received this product for Christmas and really enjoy using it. I wanted an under cabinet TV for my kitchen but the depth of my cabinets and the under cabinet lighting don't allow for the installation of that type of TV. This is a great alternative. It's small enough to use very little space but large enough for comfortable viewing. The DVD player is easy to access and the sound is quite good. If the sound quality were a bit better I would give it five stars.

  3. I was looking for a small TV that had a cable tuner that I could fit in my roll-top desk. This one was the only small TV I could find with a cable tuner. The screen quality is not the greatest, but for the price "who cares". I have not tried the DVD player, which I understand from other reviews is problematic. I've only used it for a couple of weeks, but so far I'm ecstatic.

  4. This is a great little kitchen TV at the right price. Powered right up and took off....great picture...ok audio...works for me. It arrived in three days.

  5. I wanted a small TV for my 'yoga' room to watch yoga DVDs. I also wanted it to be able to connect to cable TV so if I wanted to someday move it to a bathroom or the kitchen I could. It comes with a nice cable adapter. The DVD player works great along with the remote control. It's very light weight. I also like that it has a clear glass cover over the LCD screen. So far I have no complaints.
