5 comments about Toshiba SD-6000 1080p Upconverting DVD Player.
- I got my dvd player on 12-10-2007 at so far it works. The only thing I find wrong is some dvd's it doesnt format to 1080, like my troy dvd. No matter what I did It wouldnt fit my tv screen but my other dvd's did. Does anyone know is that suppose to happen? I say its a good deal and a nice dvd player.
- We wanted a new upconvert DVD player primarily to view our very large library of VCD's SVCD's and DVD's that we have burned of photos from our travels. This player said that it would play all of those formats. (It is becoming hard to find players that still support some of our older collection) This player performed very well with our older VCD's. However with a brand new just burned DVD,we kept getting a bad disc message. After repeating the burn several times,we hooked up our old and dying player, and it worked great.
The phone call to Toshiba tech support was most disappoin ting. They informed me that, regardless of what their specs on this player said, it would not play + DVD's. Their only solution was to use only -DVD's. We returned this player(thank you,Amazon--no hassle) and bought a Yamaha. The Yamaha is really super, and well worth the few extra dollars. Toshiba tech support was a big disappointment. They had no interest in resolving the problem.
- I lucked out and bought the player brand new from one of the major national electronics dealers for $32. At this price, I consider this a steal.
However, if you pay $80 for a DVD player, I would not buy this one. The image is good. I also have a Sony 5-disk changer DVD player that "only" puts out 1080i, and the Toshiba puts out 1080P. I prefer the Sony's image quality. The reality is that a good DVD player is going to get you to 480P. Anything over that is really pointless. My Sony DVD player has lots of image settings that you can tweak (black levels, etc). The Toshiba effectively has none (except for widescreen modes).
Also, the Toshiba does not "remember" where you are when watching a DVD and you turn the power off. It just starts over. My Sony (and mother's cheapo JVC) both have memory features, which is VERY nice.
The response time is OK by my standards. It actually responds significantly faster than my Sony DVD player. It isn't instant, but it is fast enough for my purposes.
The front panel of the player has minimal buttons. It looks nice, but you I like to be able to switch audio modes, fast forward, and rewind just in case I don't have the remote handy. Also, the blue light surrounding the tray looks cool for about 10 seconds, and then it gets old. If you are somewhat picky about your home theater lighting, you might want to avoid this player for that reason alone.
I have a Toshiba TV (which I love), so I am happy with my purchase. One remote and one HDMI cable does the trick. For the price I paid, it was a deal. The picture does look nice. But if you are going to spend $80 on a player, I would look elsewhere (Sony, etc).
- I bought this unit at Best Buy, and from the start I was having problems with it. Simply setting it up was the start when the device refused to give me a picture. Only upon unplugging it then replugging it would it work. One of its worst features is that it has no memory. Start watching a DVD, turn off the power, turn the power back on, and--ta-da!--you're back at the beginning. Last week, the thing stopped working all together. I never found out what was wrong. Inexpensive units can be replaced inexpensively.
Currently, I'm very happy with my new Sony DVP-NS77H DVD player.
- I like the streamline design. The functionality is fine. The "upconversion" aspect is a bit confusing. I guess it does as advertised but I notice a degredation in quality when its upconverted.

5 comments about Norcent DP300 DVD Player , Silver.
- My husband and I purchased the Norcent DP300 DVD Player for our teenage daughter almost 3 yrs ago. Since that time we have went out and purchased numerous DVD players, even Sony's, that will not play what the Norcent will play. This DVD player will play ANYTHING that we have put in it so far!! I haven't found one yet that plays like this one plays. Several months ago we purchased the Norcent DP-220 DVD PLAYER WITH DIVX PLAYBACK and it still doesn't play what the older model DP300 will play. I can't rate this DVD player any higher because it has also stood up to a teenager that watches one movie over and over again in one day. I wish Norcent would continue to manufacturer this DVD player...it is awesome!!!
- I bought this player a year ago to be used in the guest bedroom.
I knew I was taking a risk but I fell for the "wow this is really cheap" and the "how bad could it be, after all it will only be used every now and again by visiting family and friends" big mistake. This is a total heap. save your money and buy another brand, beware of cheap chinese rip off garbage.
- This was perfect for my family and at a good price. It worked well for a while and then died after only a little over one year. So, I have to say that I will no longer feel confident to purchase any more Norcent products.
- I purchased this DVD player mainly because of its multi-format support. I normaly purchase Pakistani and Indian CDs, DVDs and it has a never refused to play any. I have been putting it to rough use but it never failed. After using it for over 4 years, it made its way to my 5 yrs old's room and is still running great. I am very impressed with its durability specially it costed me just 30 bucks back in 2003.
- According to my history I ordered this in May of 2003 and the price was right (for a budget machine). It was my first stand-alone machine and it lasted until June 2008.
So this was bought knowing it was a budget player and hoped I'd have it working for a year or so.
Four stars just because I've had other budget machines 20+ years and they still work for me.

- 12 months after I bought this DVD player it stopped working; it randomly stops and resets itself every 5 to 10 minutes.
I called Philips technical support and after navigating their support phone line for half an hour and speaking to an agent for five minutes they told me that because it is out of warranty and this model is no longer covered by their 'Out of Warranty Reduced Cost Exchange' program, all I can do is go to their website and buy a new model. I asked if I could troubleshoot it and was told that they no longer support this product.
I'll be staying away from Philips products from now on; budget or high-end.
- I bought this player 6-8 months ago, and have had no problems with it. I have a Netflix subscription and a 3 year old, so it gets used every day. It's a great little player for the money.
- I have owned this dvd player for less than a year, worked fine everytime. then all of the sudden played a dvd worked fine, put in another one and said bad disk. tried about 10 different dvds over the course of 3 days, one dvd worked for about 10 minutes and then time after time bad disk. well have you ever seen the copy machine scene in office space..... thats what happened to this pos.
- I have to admit I am impressed by the negative comments I have read about this product. Yuo all must have received a defective unit or just got unlucky with it. I got this DVD at JC Penney on sale for $29.95 in August 2006 because I needed a new cheap DVD player with progressive scan. Then I come to find out that this DVD player has both NTSC and PAL which is great for me that I watch movies from Italy. I already had one Sampo DVD region free to dothis but I searched online to see if I could unlock this Philips. Found it. After pressing 8 buttons this cheap DVd player plays anything I feed him with. It does play PC recorded DVDs too. Its menu is easy to use and so its remote. The progressive scan picture looks great on my 50" Panasonic plasma. And all for $29.95.
- Had this DVD player for a year and watched about 5 movies a month when the audio outputs stopped delivering sound. Phillips used to make great equipment, this DVD player is junk. Save yourself some money and buy the "El Cheapo" DVD player for $30.00. The cheapies last longer and they're made in the same place as the high end models with the same materials and lack of quality.
