2 comments about Denon DVD-757 Progressive Scan Universal DVD Player.
- Rather than go into the features of this machine(you can read about those in the product description above), I'll just write that this DVD player does an excellent job of rendering both digital images and sound. Although it is just one step above Denon's entry-level DVD player, it nonetheless bristles with technological features expected in this price range and beyond and its performance shows it.
The instructions are well-written and setup is very straightforward. Operation is easy. The display is in Denon's typical blue-lit clarity and is simple and easy to read with no ambiguity. The remote is mostly well-designed, but the separation of Open/Close and Mode from the other operational buttons such as Play, FF, Rewind, etc. is not intuitive and a bit annoying. (I solved this issue with a universal remote.) The picture modes, angle and zoom features, and search modes are really useful and add to the enjoyment of watching a movie. The buttons press inward with a high quality resistance and feel and the DVD tray opens and shuts smoothly and quietly. Everything about this machine exudes attention to detail and quality manufacture.
Good as it is, I'm giving it only four stars because it is handily beaten by the Oppo 981HD both in features and in price. (I recently purchased the Oppo and it's just amazing.) Nonetheless, this Denon is no slouch and would be an excellent DVD player for a modest to mid-priced home theater system.
Recommended.
- This player is a piece of crap. I have struggled with it for more than a year. Whenever it gets to a DVD it has trouble with it just freezes and none of the buttons including power will work. You have to unplug the thing from the wall to even get the disk out. Don`t expect any help from Denon either. DON`T BUY THIS PLAYER!!!

3 comments about Zenith DVB 612 - DVD player - upscaling - black, silver.
- Returned this player after 2 weeks when it would no longer power up. This was a blessing in disguise because I was very disappointed in the upconverting capabilities while it was working. Using an HDMI cable, the 1080i HD upconversion looked blurry & worse than my 5-year-old DVD player! Stay away from this product. I'll just wait until the HD DVD players come down in the price this year.
- I have been using this DVD player for a month and it never failed on me. Supporting a long list of file format (DVD+/-R, DivX, WMA, etc), this one will make the best picture quality through HDMI cable, which is the selling point.
Those who feels "fooled" by the upscaling feature just need a better understanding about this feature: it's never about upscaling those store-purchased DVD; it's to upscale those home-made low quality video (converted from VHS, etc), to make it a bit better but that's it. You SHOULD NOT expect too much on this feature, so that you won't feel "fooled"...
- This is a Great DVD Player for the Price. It plays almost every format I have thrown at it....AVI, Mpegs, etc. I have a Phillips DVP642 and this player is so much better even at the most basic remote and GUI level.
Upconverting looks super and its so clean.
The Remote is simple to use.
I love this player and would buy it over the Phillips any day!

- If you are a recent convert to HD as I was you will find this player to your liking. DVD's are sharp and the sound fantastic. And speaking of sound, check out the fact that this deck can play DVD Audio as well as SACD. You're not going to come close to the capabilities of this unit for the price. Terrific deal.
- received item quickly. I plugged it in and has been working just fine ever since. great picture.
- I recently purchased a 50" plasma TV and wanted better picture from my DVDs. This is it! The picture from this player is so much better than I was getting from my old DVD player. I own DVD players that are S-Video as well as 480 composite video, and neither of them even come close. The only problem I have had is that DVDs that I recorded on my DVD recorder must have a slightly different audio format because they won't play audio over the digital audio output on this unit. I solved that problem though by turning on the HDMI audio output when I am playing these DVDs and it works fine. All in all, a great unit and I got it at a great price as well!
- The picture quality is unmatched to be sure. My only beef with this item is that it takes a long time between commands. For instance, to open the door takes a while. It takes a long time to load the DVD and the dial is not that bright. If you consider those items minor, but this set. Since you deal with them alot, it can be annoying.
- I picked this player up 2nd hand for my bedroom. I'm bit of a Yamaha fanatic and got a good price. I was pleasantly surprised by the player, picture quality was excellent and it integrated perfectly with my Yamaha AV receiver as you would expect.
I also own an OPPO in my main room, it's definitely got the edge but I paid almost 4x the amount... If you want a good quality player for a reasonable price this is a good choice, I've not found any problems.....

5 comments about RCA DRC8052N DVD Recorder.
- I am not quite sure why so many negative reviews have come up for this recorder. My experience has been fairly well painless. While I do not have a Hi Def television yet, I have found it interesting/nice that this device converts between the inputs. For example, an RCA video input would be output as S-Video as long as I have the S-Video cable connected as the output path. No swapping inputs on the television! In the home theater receivers I have seen, this functionality would simplify things a great deal. I use my RCA drc8052N DVD Recorder to run analog signal devices in, and receive digital signals out. The conversions are clean and the audio and video I get are more than acceptable.
DVD recording has gone off without a hitch. Recording old home movies to DVD from VHS has gone very well and has allowed me to subsequently pull that movie data into the PC for editing and compiling home movie DVD's although this step is really a hobby for me and is not necessary. The menu editing in the RCA DCR8052N, while tedious, certainly is adequate.
I purchased my unit ahead of the Christmas season last year for less than $100 at a local retailer and have not had a minute's trouble. I also must note on the heat issue that my cabinet is not ideal for this type of equipment. The heat within the cabinet can seem quite high, but this machine and my other devices have performed very well. I do periodically clean my electronic equipment by blowing it out and ensuring dust doesn't have a chance to build up, but this is a habit of mine. Our PS2 will stop working due to dust build-up if I don't keep it cleaned out, for instance.
The interface for operating this system is complex but not gratuitously so. A review of the documentation prior to operation should be enough for most folks to be able to take advantage of most of it's features.
At a minimum, this device is far superior to it's 2 star average. 4 stars is a conservative representation of it's overall value.
- The unit I received was not working properly so returned it to the supplier who was very quick to get necessary information to me for the prepaid return.
- And yet another DVD recorder that's woeful. Right off the bat, the HDMI output doesn't work. Why? Because it defaults to 480i of all things (not in the manual) and at least for me NONE of my HD TV's support that, they only go "down" to 480p. So you hook up an alternate video output so you can see what you're doing on the menu, only to find that the HDMI setting isn't even in the menu... it's got it's own button! The menuing system is very unintuitive, horrible really. The DVD is considered an input, so to see what's on the DVD you have to hit the input button, and go select the DVD icon itself (right next to AV1, etc). The menuing system is very difficult to navigate, but on the positive side there's a lot of features there -- like to be able to preview each title and insert chapter stops, and there's some nice editing features (combining titles/chapters, etc). The remote control is very cheap, unlike the unit itself which has a very nice appearence with the piano black finish and chrome accents. I had no compatibility problems with my other players. One other thing, while recording, the responsiveness of the unit when stopping/pausing is sluggish. Overall a decent player for the money.
- This unit may not be the best but from my experience, it also may not be the worst. I only use it for time shifting and archiving, and not as a cable receiver as some may. I use it in conjunction with my Sat receiver. The question may be askewd if Blu-ray is better. Without a doubt....yes. At this time neither format offers an HDMI Input so at best a standard def recording is all we will get. The first 8052 I purchased in 12-2006 has not given me any problems thus far and for the price paid, I think it works fine for the purpose intended.
- I have been a dedicated RCA user for over 20 years!! Before this product I had a RCA VCR that lasted over 20 years before it died!! My wife has a VCR that is over 25 years old!!! It still works like new!! As for this DVD player, I have had it for over a year and it works fantastic!! I understand the negative reviews on this product, nothing is perfect!! It would be nice to see somemore positive feedback on this product!!! I imagine there is alot out there!! I personally think it is a great product for the price!!

1 comments about Mack 4 Year DVD Player Warranty for Players with a retail value of up to $1000.00.
- I'M TYPING IN CAPS BECAUSE I AM YELLING. PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE A MACK WARRANTY AND IF YOU HAVE ALREADY DO NOT SEND YOUR SYSTEM TO MACK TO REPAIR. I SWEAR I SENT A 1,000 VD/DVD UNIT TO JUST CLEAN SOME DUST AND THEY BROKE IT AND ARE NOW TRYING TO BLAME THE SHIPPING COMPANY. THEY ARE TRULY AND I MEAN TRULY PATHETIC. I HAVE SEVERAL WARRANTIES WITH THEM AND I PRAY I WILL NEVER HAVE TO USE THEM. I NOTIFIED THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU AND HOPEFULLY I WILL GET MY UNIT REPLACED. IF YOU BUY THEIR WARRANTY THEN YOU MY FRIEND DID NOT LISTEN. THERE IS ANOTHER WARRANTY COMPANY THAT I HAVE BOUGHT FROM AMAZON IN WHICH YOU CAN TAKE YOUR SYSTEM TO THEM LOCALLY IN SANTA MONICA. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!! I DIDN'T EVEN WANT TO GIVE THEM ONE STAR BUT IT SEEMS I HAVE TOO!!

- Apex Digital products often fail within the first year. They have horrible customer service, false advertising, and fail to honor their warranties. Please check www.labbb.gov (Better Business Bureau) and search for Apex Digital to see the F rating the better business bureau has given them. Saving 10-15 dollars is not worth the hassle they cause.

5 comments about Panasonic DMR-E55S Progressive Scan DVD Recorder / Player , Silver.
- The Panasonic DMR-E55 is highly rated, but with some limitations, and I was considering getting one. But Panasonic just came out with a replacement, the DMR-ES10, which not only fixes most of the problems/limitations of the E55 but is also a mind-bendingly reasonable $200 list price. It just hit the shelves a few days ago, and I was lucky enough to be there at the right time and ended up with a unit. I love it. See the review I'm writing under the ES10.
Even if you find a good deal on a used/refurbished/closeout E55, you might at least want to consider the ES10 for its improved functionality.
[I gave the E55 a 4* rating to avoid skewing the ratings. I've noticed that when people don't rate a product, that counts as 0 *'s]
- I purchased the DMR-E55 in May 2004 & have nothing but praise for this machine and I think the DVD-RAM format is so good because I am able to record my favourite tv shows in DVD-RAM Format in XP or Flexible record mode then simply erase the commercials leaving just the tv show then play the Ram disc back in my Panasonic S27 player and record to DVD-R to keep for future viewing anytime I wish to watch them. I also have backed up many VHS tapes & home movies to DVD-R. The only problem I have ever come across with this recorder is that on the odd occasion after finalizing a DVD-R the menu has not been completely created even though all chapters buttons work fine the menu is not in full view but maybe that has been more a faulty disc than the machine itself but even so these few discs still play fine. I would highly recommend this machine to anyone who is looking for a good DVD recorder.
- This should say it all: I just came back from the repair shop. When they saw me walk in with the unit the clerk said, "I can't believe how many of these units come in." This very model. I used it for a few months, made 20 or 30 recordings, then it just failed. I called tech report, told them the error message I was getting and they told me to bring it in. I have a feeling I'll be returning it often till the warranty expires and then I'll throw it out.
For what it's worth it worked well until its demise.
- This is a simple and complex machine. Simple in the way of how easy it is to use. Just press the REC button and you are done. And complex with all the useful features like MP3 player, CD player, DVD player, and my most surprised feature RF. If you are watching T.V. downstairs and recording upstairs, just press stop on the remote whenever within about 100 ft.
- I have 6 of these DVD recorders. It is so user friendly. Panasonic sent me a disc update to increase the speed of the drive to 8X. No one was selling the 4X discs anymore. I was in a total panic. I tried a Toshiba DVD recorder and it took a rocket scientist to figure it out and I still had major problems. Needless to say, I returned it. I highly recommed a Panasonic.
