5 comments about CyberHome CH-LDV 712 7-Inch Portable Progressive-Scan DVD Player , Silver.
- The CH-LDV 712 is a very sleek player with a 7inch LCD. The remote has mute, volume controls, brightness and language/subtitle controls among others. You can turn off the LCD if you use it to listen to CDs.
Here is the Region code hack found from VideoHelp.
1. Turn on your dvd player using the remote control
2. open the tray
3. press the "stop" button on your remote
4. enter 1999 using the remote & a special menu will pop up.
5. select the region code as indicated using the remote (set it to ALL)
6. confirm it, using "enter" key on remote
7. leave the menu using the "return" button on your remote
8. close the tray
It is great for learning foriegn languages and you can find non-region 1 discs at Amazon's other sites such as France and Germany.
- I got this CyberHome brand portable DVD player and it was pretty cheaply made..returned it and looked for awhile and got the Toshiba SDP-1600 and it rocks! The battery pack on the Toshiba attaches at the back and some people don't like that it "sticks out"...but I'v never had a problem with this at all.. The Toshiba has held up for over 4 years now! Don't get the Cyber home...look online and you can get a Toshiba for same price. ($150)
- We left all our cords and adapter on an airplane and they couldn't find them, so we tried to find a new adapter to hook it up in the car and no place around had one that would fit. Lots of places sold some that fit most DVD players but not this one. So we went to the Cyberhome webiste and with shipping it cost $55 just for the one adapter, I felt that was rediculously over priced. The average price of the adapter that fit most other DVD players was only $15. Next time we get a DVD player I will makes sure we can easily find new accessories to fit it so we don't have to spend a fortune.
- When I saw this for $99 at K-Mart last year, I thought I had found the answer to our almost-1-year-old son's hatred of car trips. It felt pretty cheap & flimsy, but worked well, and played everything we put in it (even library DVDs that were pretty beat up), but the power cord connection was ALWAYS loose. Then about 3 months ago, it quit working completely--the AC adaptor didn't work, the battery charger didn't work, nothing. Luckily, my brother-in-law is an electronics wiz, and he was able to get it working again in about 5 hours of fiddling (and I didn't have to pay the $59 repair fee--plus shipping--Cyberhome quoted). However, our last car trip last week was IT. Every time we went over a tiny bump in the road, the cord fell out. I'm looking for a new DVD player again!`
- This was a gift, and although I would no longer pay full retail price for it, it performed flawlessly throughout the long summer of a bed-ridden friend's recuperation. The screen, which uses a passive rather than active matrix design, does not have the sharp, detailed picture of today's laptops and HD monitors but proved more than adequate for movies and ideal for cartoons. (The onboard speakers, while lacking in bass, are clear and loud--and earphones are included as an option.) Moreover, if used as a player rather than self-contained unit, it's capable of producing a big screen picture and sound equal to, if not better than, the best DVD/CD players. Never once did it fail to play a commercial DVD or CD (better than I can say for even a Sony and Panasonic that I've owned). It's made of solid and sturdy metal (not plastic) and is definitely superior to the low-grade brands I've wasted money on (Apex, Mintek, Colby, GPX, J-Win) or, for that matter, some of CyberHome's own conventional, dirt-cheap DVD players that were no bargain even at $30.
This model would occasionally "scare" me with an apparently dead screen, but it always proved to be a false alarm (if you switch it to player/AV mode, the screen will go black). It's not made for rough and tumble treatment by kids fighting over it in the back seat of a vehicle. Approach it with patience and respect, and it will reward you with years of good service. I was never able to get the advertised 4 hours on a single battery charge, but 2-3 hours was easily do-able, depending on variables such as loudness and brightness settings. (My laptop does no better. When possible, I used the CyberHome for extensive periods running off AC power.)
The compact design and build quality of the unit have to be seen to be appreciated. I've read that CyberHome is out of business because of using patents (from Phillips) for which they did not have legal rights. In this case, the company's misfortunes could be to the benefit of the consumer, should you still be able to find a steeply-discounted, desirable product in the company's equipment line.

1 comments about JVC HRXVC14B DVD Video Player & VHS Hi-Fi Stereo.
- I recommend buyers look at the Amazon reviews for defunct JVC VHS/DVD
dual deck products before they purchase any current dual deck model.
They have a proven history of extremely poor build quality. JVC keeps
rapidly changing model numbers, which makes this more difficult for
the consumer to discover. However they all look very similar with
only slight cosmetic differences.
Search on these item numbers and see for yourself:

5 comments about Sony BDP-S1 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player.
- Say what you want about HD DVD, Sony Blu-Ray wins hands down. I have both a Toshiba HD DVD player and a SONY BPS-S1 player. The only way to win this battle of the HD wars is to own both. You are now in a win win situation. No matter which way HD goes, if you want a crystal clear picture and great sound, you need both.
This crazy myth that either will go away or there will be a winner is a fantasy. To bet against SONY, you'd be better trying to nail Jello to a wall. Ain't gonna happen. The same applys for HD DVD. They to will stay in the mix. After watching many movies in both formats, The SONY Blu-Ray player is the clear winner in my opinion.
I've heard some reviewers say there is no difference in picture quality, I beg to differ. SONY has the edge. Even older movies recorded in Blu-Ray are beyond belief. Having both players lets you judge for yourself.
There was no gamble on SONY's part with Blu-Ray.
Now you may think that I'm pro SONY, and your right, I am. SONY HD televisions, players, and components are superior. Ive gone the route with other brands and learned my lesson. You get what you pay for. With SONY products, you not only get what you pay for, you get more.
For whatever reason, SONY technology is years ahead of their competition. Here are a few things to consider: See for yourself, take a look and compare. Remember that the TV you view programs on is very important. Theres HD and there is also outstanding HD. There's HD DVD and outstanding HD DVD. Be selective and buy products from reputable dealers. The TV must deliver in order to see the quality Blu-Ray has to offer.
Over time the HD Wars will subside and both medias will find their nitch. If you expect a clear winner, "Forget about It"!! The HD market is only starting and there will be more competition and greater choice. And after the smoke clears expect products like the SONY BPD-S1 and Toshiba products to remain in the mix.
SONY will always cross the finish line first, ask the Indy Colts quarterback, he knows!!
- We've got one of these in our office. It's slow - takes a very long time to start up, and is pretty unresponsive. Seems very finicky about disks with slight scratches. The "eject" button takes a long enough time to eject that you sit there wondering if you really ejected it and you hit it again, and it goes out about an inch and then goes back to tell you "no you hit it before I just decided to register both presses at the same time". Gets 2 stars instead of 1 because it actually plays disks and is basically functional, but I'd be upset if I got one for free (which I guess I kinda did). Looking forward to a 3rd or 4th generation version that's cheap, reliable, and more tolerant of scratches.
- Well before, I bash the thing to death let me say, when it did play movies, it was short of breathtaking. My Toshiba AX2 is breathtaking! Anyways, the player performs fairly easily on most Blu-Ray titles. Here come the spin on everything. Recently did a firmware update at the service center because I noticed it was having difficulty playing some movies, and could't retreive any special features. SO they did the upgrades and ensured me the player was profile 1.1 compatible. I took the player home, and it wouldn't load any disks. So I hard reset the player over the phone with the service center, and that seemed to work for about 10 days. Then I would load a new movie it would start playing for about 5 mins the beep really loud at me then display an error prompt then shut down. Fair enough reset the player agian and everything worked fine. Well after about 5 days, I got fed up and took it back to the service center. They could not find anything wrong with the player? I brought in some movies, and they worked for about 5 mins then the problem came back. They took the cover off and watched the player do its thing, and no change? The guy was really stumped. The factory reset the player without any firmware updates. Everything was back to normal. The player worked great!!! Eventually after loading update by update, we seemed to have a working player again, untill the 1.1 profile came into play. The had modifiactions of the last update to see which one would work. Don't really know(not that techie). Finally I had a working player after about 5 hours at the repair depot. I took it home, and rented Pirates, and the new Harry Potter. Well, the gong show continued... I have now determined that the profile 1.1 stuff glitches, and I have since sold the player on EBAY for $199 with the last of my movies... Don't buy it and save your money...
- Pictures do not do it justice. You will have to see Sony's BDP-S1 in the flesh to appreciate the fit and finish.Unfortunately when the market catches on, Blu Ray players will weigh about the same as an average laptop and feel flimsy.Just compare Toshiba's current Hd dvd players to their earlier models(HD-XA1 /HD-XA2)and you'll understand. In the meantime give yourself a treat;get one these before it's too late. And did I mention that the picture quality is excellent?
- Sony's BDP-S1 Bluray player's built quality is like other flagship products (in the ES series) they built: SCD-1, DVP-S7000, DVP-S7700, DVP-S9000 etc. (Sony tends to build their first generation machines with every tools they have, but...)
After V3.7 firmware update, I would like to report the following (seen on my LG 32LC2D LCD TV set at 720p):
1. booting procedure is a little faster: about 50 seconds (not the first time booting).
2. disk loading takes about 20 seconds.
3. the machine responds to the remote control much faster: "almost" instantaneous, with at most 1 second of latency.
4. no glitches on most regular DVD playback I have tried so far (>100), and the up-conversion picture quality is as good as PS3, in certain area, it even surpasses that of PS3.
5. it still does not support CD playback! It cannot play SACD is quite strange to me, since its audio DAC (BB/TI PCM1738E, after that 2 dual OPs amps for using as L/R channel current output low-pass fileter and I/V conversion, plus another dual OP used as the second stage stage of LPF, with 3 PCM1738E in this configuration to handle 5.1 audio outputs) is capable of both DSD and PCM decoding. With the design out the output stage, it is very easy to modify the analog output signal to be fully balanced one. However, with PCM recorded red book CD, why BDP-S1 cannot decode? I am not sure whether this "problem" is due to the hardware limitation (first generation BD ROM drive does not read CD pixels), or Sony disabled CD playback in its firmware. Please SONY: enable red book CD playback, if it is disabled in the firmware!
Lots of people are debating whether they should get the new BDP-S300/350, BDP-S500/550 or the first generation BDP-S1 or even PS3. The decision depends on what you really want/afford to buy. All-in-one player: PS3 period. For people hunting for a dedicated bluray/DVD up-converting player: S3000/3500, S5000/5500 with warranty or you can buy S1 at really low price off e-bay (with/without warranty). Audiophiles need to keep away from BDP-S1! If you really want the top-of-the-line Sony Bluray player, get BDP-S2000ES (MSRP $1200). From technical side, BB/TI already discontinue the PCM1738 and the suggested replacement is its top-of-the-line PCM1796. Probably that audio DAC will be in BDP-S2000ES. Usually, not too many machine under 3K are using BB/TI PCM179X series DAC chips, stay tuned!
(Video equipments using: Sony BDP-S1, Sony PS3, Toshiba HD-A30, XtremeMac 4-1 HDMI switch, XtremeMac HDMI cables, LG 32LC2D LCD TV.)

5 comments about LG DR787T 1080i Upconverting DVD Recorder with Built In Tuner.
- I originally bought this DVD Recorder/Tuner to replace our cable DVR. We decided to cut costs and just go with over the air channels. My TV doesn't have a digital tuner, so we figured this would be a great choice to go with. Well I have tried this tuner with 2 different, well rated HDTV antennas. I cannot get a single channel to come in very well. I live in an area where there are plenty of available channels. I hooked up a friends TV down the road with just bunny ears and she gets plenty of channels. So I figure it must be the tuner. My other complaint is that the DVD recorder must be turned off in order for it to start recording. This problem was fixed with VCRs years ago, so I don't understand why LG has this problem. Also, you can only watch what you are recording through the recorder unless you have a separate tuner. My last problem is the remote is basically useless with anything other than the recorder. It only gives you 5 brands of TVs and 10 possible codes, so good luck getting your TV to work with the remote. It is very inconvenient to have to use 1 remote to turn on the TV and control volume and then another remote to work the DVD Recorder. Other than that the recorder records just fine and I have no other problems with this model.
- Bought this product at Best Buy as a tunner for my 50" plasma screen. I've noted the complaints of the other people rating this player and agree with them. The upconvert is good near HD quality. When pressing a button there seems to be a 4 second delay before the unit will responds. Not for the impatient.
- The unit has a number of drawbacks as noted in one of the other reviews. Shortly after the 90-day warranty expired, the unit stopped recognizing the discs it recorded. It showed an error message of "Unknown disc." Soon after that it began refusing to play commercial DVDs that I bought, with the same error message. I used a head cleaner but that didn't help. It is useless and I am going to throw it out. It was a complete waste of money. Very disappointing.
- LG DR787T DVD recorder with digital video output, upconversion, and built-in digital TV tuner
This DVR works fine but is not intuitive in terms of set up or use. The lack of buttons on the set to open/close the drawer means you must use the remote to input/remove a DVD. Also, the fact it doesn't automatically turn off after a period of time is not as useful as my prior Toshiba DVD player. Overall, a good, inexpensive DVR, but be prepared to read the owner's manual to fully understand how to use it.
- I only gave it 2 stars because it has an "auto start movie" feature I did enjoy that lets you skip previews, and it still records OK on strong channels, or for archiving from another aux. source. Better get a back-up player for pre-recorded DVDs within 6 months though, as about 1/3rd I get from NetFlix now just won't play.

5 comments about Panasonic DVD-S53S Up-Converting 1080p DVD Player Silver.
- I bought this DVD player at Circuit City earlier this yr for about a $100. I hooked it up to a 47" Vizio LCD (which by the way has an awesome picture) using a HDMI cable. After fine tuning this product, I was very, very, very diasppointed. The picture was very "grainy" (lots of pixels). I have a $35 DVD player that only utilizes an s-video cable that produces a much more crisp picture. Be warned, the picture stinks.
- I bought this DVD player to feed some HD signal to my newly purchased HDTV since I was not ready to spend close to $500 for a bluray player even though it looked pretty clear bluray would not be on the losing side of the format war (maybe universal players win in the end).
The set-up of the S53S is pretty complicated and made worse by the fact that they give you many choices but do not tell you what they are supposed to do in the manual. I had two DVD players already, one standalone and the other built-in the home theater system. Both have progressive scan (convert 480i standard signal to 480P). Because my HDMI cables arrived a couple of days after the S53S, using component cables, I first compared the 480P images from my old players with the S53S. The S53S is much worse. After I received the HDMI cable and 30 minutes of "tuning", it was still a little hard to convince myself that the 1080P image from S53S was really better than the 480P from my old players. The last straw was when I discovered my home theater (also a panasonic) had an HDMI output, and once I connected it, I was amazed to realize that my home theater was capable of doing 1080i conversion already and there was definitely no difference between the 1080P from the S53S and the 1080i from the home theater. I eneded up returning the product.
Bottom line is, take a hard look at what you already have and maybe enable the 480P (or higher) before purchasing. If there is no DVD player that does any up-conversion, this is a good unit to own. Otherwise, you should bear in mind that the up-converted signal is still nowhere near real HD signal. Also, get the HDMI cable. It is less than 10 bucks if you browse Amazon for market place sellers. I do not understand why some people suggest to get a "gold plated" one. HDMI cable is used to transfer digital AV signals and for digital product, the product either works (passes all the "1" and "0"s correctly) or simply does not work (messes up the "1" and "0"s), there is no such thing as noise, degradation, etc any more.
- This is Panasonic's only DVD player that can play MP3's on DVD's. All the others (and all the units I happened to see from other manufacturers) play MP3's only on CD-R/RW's. Being Panasonic, it also plays DVD-RAM's which I want because I use DVD-RAM's on my PC a lot (most people just don't seem to understand why DVD-RAMs are so useful). The low price is nice but honestly I would pay twice that or more for the audio playing capabilities.
- Player was delivered in a timely manner. The player is everything they said it was. I have purchased many Panasonic products in the past and have yet to be disappointed.
- Plays everything ive thrown at it so far. Quality is nice. The remote is user friendly. Only thing is that I cant seem to change my display from 480p to 720p or 1080i.. my 32" westinghouse lcd can display up 1080i resolution too.. Other than that great player

5 comments about Sony DAVDX255 Integrated DVD System.
- FOR THE PRICE AND THE BRAND IT IS THE BEST I EVER .......THIS IS THE BEST BUY!
- For $300 delivered we are very happy with this system. It sounds really good in my opinion. For people who are not sound experts this will get the job done at a great price. If you have money to burn, then go buy a $1200 system and it will probably sound a little better.
- I purchased this item @ Target on impulse which cost me $65.00 more than on the internet @ that time. Target would not attempt to match or give a store credit for $ 65.00 or any amount for that matter. Be very careful when buying/ anything at Target!
As far as the product is concerned, it is not as good as the other Sony 5 disc DVD player I own/use. The sound (speech)could be better quality and the loading of DVD's is combersome in comparison to my other Sony model. No on screen display when changing DVD's and a disc location light has stopped operating.
Music sounds terrific.
- Dear Buyers, you get what you pay for. It's a decent entry level home theatre. If you have an HDTV then please invest in nice DVD player. This will not suffice! Avg. picture quality but sound is acceptable with hi fidelity and good surround. 4 or 5 stars is very generous and not deserving for this item!
- I'd owned my machine 14 months when it froze a DVD and refused to eject it. Sony's manual and on-line site gave no good correction so I called Sony's "help" line and was told to do the same thing the manual said, which I had already done to no avail. Then I was told to send it to a Service Center and for $134 they would tell me how much the fix was. Went to some consumer websites and discovered I wasn't the only one with problems with a Sony 5 cartridge disc machine. And all had the same problem- disc capture and non-eject. Please save yourself some headaches and don't get this type of player. Oh, and the volume for TV is really low, no way to enhance it; no HDMI, either.

- I purchased this DVd Player last year in hoidays and it works great no problems good picture quality no goasting no region problems It plays my all DVD's from UK on US tv plays PAL and NTSC without any problem also has very good sound Will paly Regions 1,2,3,4,5,6
Recomended
- I got this karaoke unit for one reason and one reason only--because it had the ability to change keys. So many of my karaoke discs are just a few notes too high or low for me, and the idea of being able to change the key was very appealing. I have a key changer for audio tapes which basically speeds them up and slows them down to change the key, but I had never seen this feature with CDs. I also liked the idea that this model plays pretty much anything on a disc--CDs, CD+Gs, DVDs, picture discs, MP3, etc. etc. etc. (see the specifications!), but I really only needed it for the karaoke player.
So I got it and tried it out. The key change function works wonderfully. You have the capability to go up 16 keys or down 16 keys, so you can choose pretty much any key you want. The music does not speed up or slow down; it stays the same tempo. There is a little sound distortion once you get past 5 or so key changes on either side, but you're bound to find something within that that you can use.
Sound quality is as good as any other mid-priced karaoke player. The unit has all the regular features you'd find on a karaoke player--echo, mic volume, etc. The two included microphones are not the best quality. They are fine for home use, but if you want to record anything or sing in public, you'll probably want to buy a better mic.
As a DVD player, it's not so great. I am guessing that the synch problem must be hit-or-miss, as one of these reviews mentioned it and the other did not. I got a "bad" one I guess. The picture and sound are ever so slightly off. It comes and goes, so you might start a DVD out looking good, then 30 minutes into it the voices stop matching the pictures. For this reason I do not use it as my main DVD player. The fun thing about it is that the key change function works for DVDs as well as CDs, so you can amuse the kids by playing something with really high voices. Again, the action doesn't speed up; it just gets higher pitched. I have to wonder if this is responsible for the synch problem, as the sound can be manipulated without the vision changing.
There is another small problem in that the manual is poorly translated and doesn't contain instructions for half of the functions on the unit. You have to sort of mess around and figure things out through trial and error. This will be a problem if you want to use a bunch of weird features, but if you just want to play music, you'll be fine.
Bottom line: if you want a really great karaoke player, I would recommend this. If you expect to use it for DVDs, be prepared to be disappointed. It makes a good addition to an entertainments center so long as you have a backup DVD player. Use it for music alone and you'll be fine.
- Absolutely love this product! I hooked it up through my Bose and I had no problems with the mic quality after that. Cheap entertainment is exactly what I wanted and this is a lot of entertainment for the price. I have been singing for hours and am very satisfied with the quality, very sturdy. Somewhat tricky hookup but eventually figured it out.
- Claims to play all formats but will not play a regular DVD.
Don't waist your time move on.
- The RJ Tech RJ-4200 was my very Karaoke system. Of course it is easy to buy something expensive at your local electronics dealer, but I already have one so I used what I had. DVD Playback is fine, but I use a seperate DVD Player.

- It stopped working four weeks after I purchased, started saying 'no disc' even though the disc is present, the customer support is not as fast as other customer support, thank god it was under 90 day warranty service but I had to shed 10 bucks for shipping to get repaired from the Mustek warranty support.
The picture quality and sound quality are good, that's the reason I am giving 3 stars, but is delicate. Also few discs I was not able to play in this play but was able to play in my other DVD player.
