- Being Brits in NY, we have so missed our favourite English comedies, and now can not believe that we waiting this long before getting a multi-regional player.
It arrived very quickly, and in good condition. There was no special set-up required (or progamming), and we just popped in a disc and worked straight away.
This piece of equipment is great, and excellent value for money.
- Arrived very well packaged, in excellent condition, and very quickly! Does everything I wanted it to do, and it's great to finally be able to view some of my non-US DVD's!
- This DVD plays everything it say,I like it, it have a nice look and very thin, The only problem I have found is the open and close one the remote control, Other then that is great, Thank you
- We purchased this DVD player after returning from living in Germany for 2 years. We have many PAL DVDs. The machine plays all of our DVDs well. We are totally satisfied with the quality and service we have received.
- I am very happy with the ALL Region Philips DVD player I ordered for my boyfriend for Christmas. I had to purchase this, so that he could watch a region 3 movie. First, the shipment came so quickly--in time for Christmas, and was well packaged. I was especially happy to know that it was easy to get in contact with customer service, to ask any questions I had about the DVD player itself. All as advertised, I would definately recommend a friend buying items from this company. The DVD player itself worked well, money well spent.

4 comments about Zenith XBR716 - DVD recorder/ VCR combo - black, silver.
- plays dvd's cd-rs ok havn't done much else having trouble recording with vcr
A lot to hook up if you have sat. box av 5.1 stereo and this unit and also tv to hook up. manual just shows to hook up to tv. not the best way to hook all these units to work together! I don;t like that there's no coaxial hookups just s-video and rca's for audio so you have to put tv in video mode for playback.I'm having trouble figuring this thing out. I tried to call support number waited half hour then hung up. Seems to be LG UNIT not Zenith? May be a good product but it's difficult to use for me.
- Have had this miserable product for just under a year. It was a monster to get hooked up though I paid to have it done professionally after several knowledgeable nerds failed. It replaced a Go Video dual deck VCR which finally gave up the ghost after 10 years of faithful service. Accepting the inevitability of VHS (of which I have an extensive collection)demise, I decided to bite the bullet and go to DVD while retaining the ability to watch and record on VHS. In spite of instructions in the manual to the contrary, this set has no capacity to use timer recording from TV to DVD or VHS. I cannot count the hours I have wasted trying to accomplish this. There is absolutely no way to get the option of TV input. This is the fatal flaw especially since I only want to record worthwhile old movie classics from TCM. There is hardly anything else worth watching or recording on TV. That was bad enough, but now the DVD rejects playing 90% of the DVDs it was playing fine before. Now It rejects Netflixs and almost all of my own DVDs with a No disc or Unrecognized disc error. They play fine on another DVD player we have. No amount of cleaning or troubleshooting makes a difference, and the age or # of times played for a disc makes no difference.
None of the options/models for replacement that I am seeing in my online searching shows much promise as I read the reviews. Frankly, I wish DVD technology had waited to appear until after I was dead and gone.
- What a piece of junk.
Mine completely died about 10 months after I bought it, and I didn't even use it that much. It always ran really hot, whenever I played DVD's they came out warm to the touch, and the chassis was always very warm when the unit was on. It was always a little flakey and didn't seem to work quite right, especially when burning DVD's.
But now the unit totally crapped out on me and won't even record or play DVD's or VHS tapes. This is one of the worst pieces of electronics I have ever bought. Please... do yourself a favor and do not buy this unit, even though you will be tempted by the low price.
- We've only managed to record one DVD (after 6 or 7 attempts, why keep throwing money away with the media?)in the nearly two years of owning this. There's no tuner (we have to use another VCR to use as the tuner). We've also been having the problems with the DVD player/recorder spitting out discs. We take the discs and put them either into the Panasonic player we bought 5 years ago and our computer DVD drives and they all work great in those devices. We'll be looking for another brand of DVD recorder/VCR (Panasonic's always a possibility).

5 comments about Toshiba MD9DM1 9-Inch AC/DC TV-DVD Combo.
- I purchased my first DVD player back in 1999. I knew it was only a matter of time before I purchased a unit that my kids (3 & 6 years old) could watch while driving vacation trips and so forth. For the last 5 years I have used a 9" TV/VCR combo while traveling on long trips in the car. Since we no longer buy VHS, I knew it was time to upgrade. I sincerely wanted one of those cool little portable units that can be used on airplanes, restaurants, at the beach, and... hey wait a minute! I don't fly that often. I go to a restaurant to eat! And at the beach... forget about it! I didn't see the need to spend ($$$$) for something I would use so little. Not to mention the fact that they appear very breakable and I've heard of skipping problems. On the other hand, this unit is AWESOME! This unit may be larger and heavier than those cool little overpriced units that have "Steal Me / Break Me" written all over them, but let me break down a few of the advantages.
1. It's Cheaper. 2. You can travel in your vehicle with it. 3. It comes with a free car adapter (unlike smaller units). 4. It's cable ready 5. You can use it as a permanent TV/DVD player in your home. (We use ours in the kitchen w/ cable) 6. The audio/video quality is excellent. 7. It's not as likely to be stolen or broken as a smaller unit. 8. Headphone Jack (You can buy a splitter and use 2 headphones, this makes for a peaceful drive with a 3 & 6 year old). 9. It's a Toshiba 10. It's Cheaper! The only negative thing I have found about this player is the "Mute" button. If there's a "Mute" button on this thing, I haven't found it yet! Shop around for the best price on this unit. I managed to pick mine up for ($$$). Now you can't beat that. My neighbors and friends are envious. I have relatives who paid twice this much for a player and watch a DVD on a whopping 5" screen. If you have money to burn, buy the smaller more expensive portable unit, but if you have an average middle class kind of family like myself, check this out!
- This is definitely a good unit; small, great digital sound, good screen size, with lot's of features (but no mute button on unit, nor on remote). However, you might be interested in buying this unit because of it's main feature, an integrated DVD player, right? But, here's the problem: sometimes it reads DVD's, sometimes it doesn't!!! My first unit, which was later replaced by Best Buy, constantly gave me an "Incorrect Disc" message on screen when trying to play certain DVD's. At first I thought, the lens might be dirty - those I cleaned with a professional lens cleaning DVD. When I popped in a DVD movie, Boom! same message on screen. Long story made short, the unit was replaced with a new one, but after about 100 hours of use, same annonying message. I thought ok, maybe it's not reading certain discs/movies correctly, but that's not the case. I watched "Ice Age" with my kids a few nights ago, and then last night I was just curious - I popped the...DVD in, crossed my fingers, pushed the Play button and there: them two annoying words again. Mind you, after about 10 trys, I gave up. I will put my unit to the test again tonight...
- Pros: Perfect size for car, good looking design, every function you could want.
Cons: Picture not as sharp as any [] 13", remote too big, no DVD info display. Summary: We just bought the Toshiba MD9DM1 9" TV []and think it's a great bargain what it can do. It fits perfectly between the two front seats of our minivan, but I did opt for a canvas type carry bag that makes it hold in place really well. Everything about it functions extremely well, and I really like the front AV inputs as well as the rear AV outputs. That's a super design plus because the inputs are great for game systems or watching video camera stuff, while the outputs allow me to hook the unit up to a larger TV, say at a hotel or something and watch DVDs where there is a bigger TV, but not a DVD player available. I also really like the car power adapter because it's got good length to it. It must be at least 8ft because I can plug it into to my van's rear AC output and the cord easily reaches the rear of the TV up between the front seats. Many such cords are 6 feet, and wouldn't allow this. I also like that this is a stereo unit, with a headphone jack in the front. I don't know of another such 9" TV that has all these conveniences in one, at this great price. The Toshiba MD9DM1 also has an appealing all silver cabinet that is sleek and modern looking. As far as any complaints about it, they're minor for me. The picture is not as sharp as a 13" [] TV I have it outputted to right now as I write this watching a DVD, but that was expected a little due to it's size. Also the remote it came with is as big or bigger than any other remote I own, counting 2 other DVD players, and 3 other TVs so not sure why they couldn't have gone with a smaller design. And finally, I find that I miss being able to see the time and track details while viewing a DVD, since there is no display on the unit like you'd have on a standard DVD player. Maybe there's a way to call it up onscreen with the remote, but I havn't found it yet in the few days I've played with it. A great TV/DVD combo for any portable need. Great design and functionality. It has everything from front AV inputs, rear AV outputs, headphone jack, long car AC cord, etc. Super!
- THIS HAS TO BE THE BEST INVESTMENT YET. WITH THREE CHILDREN WATCHING AT THE SAME TIME IT WAS PERFECT THE SMALLER DVD PLAYERS ARE REALLY JUST FOR TWO OR LESS WITH NOT MUCH SCREEN TO SEE. FROM CT TO VA WHAT A WAY TO GO. ONLY THING THAT IS WAS A LITTLE BULKY IN BETWEEN THE FRONT SEATS WE HAD THIS IN A SEDAN.
- What a lifesaver!! I purchased this for our 10 hr drive to Canada. The kids loved it which made the drive so much better..I had originally purchased a small portable DVD player, but was so glad that I returned it and bought this instead. The carrying bag for the car is such a handy item, it fit nice and secure in my SUV. I'd recommend this for anyone taking a long trip in the car.

5 comments about Toshiba SD-P1750 7-Inch Portable DVD Player.
- I bought this player and at first I was very pleased with my purchase. The sound was good, it was light, and the screen was nice and big, but...after a few more uses I found that the screen pixelated every time the scene it was playing was in the shade or dark. Also, I would put in a DVD (that I had played before and had been crystal clear) and it either wouldn't play at all or it was so pixelated I couldn't watch it. The player freezes whenever you least expect it and the remote is horribly designed. If you press the pause button twice it goes into step and then you have to search for the play button. All around, I returned it and I wish I had stayed with my old Coby, even if it was falling apart.
- I mostly got this little model so that I can watch videos while in transit, between classes, and at the gym. Since I'm a film student, there are a lot of movies I need to squeeze into my schedule and this seemed like a good way. So far it's been an excellent unit, very reliable and easy to use, with no problems. My only two complaints are that I haven't been able to buy additional batteries for it -- nobody, not even ToshibaDirect, seems to bother carrying them -- and the claim that this model could handle .avi and Divx files has turned out to be incorrect. All in all, though, it's doing what I need it to do, and doing it very well.
- This product was very picky on DVD since the first day I bought it. I did not return it since it could play a DVD that my baby daughter especially like. But after six months and just a few times use, now it just refuses to play ANY DVD, and says "invalid disk". Believe me, It would be a mistake to buy it!
- It's funny that the "most useful" review on here starts out by saying "I bought this two weeks ago." Well, I've had it for about a year and a half, and the lithium ion battery will not charge anymore. I called Toshiba, and of course they said that it's outside the warranty period, so call the parts distributor. I called, and the cost of a new battery is $60 (plus shipping and tax). When I told Toshiba it was clearly a faulty battery, he said what was my charging method...I said, well, I purchased this unit because it has a lithium ion battery that doesn't have to be drawn down completely before being recharged to maintain full charge. He pretty much ignored that and then gave me the distributor's phone number. So do I buy the new battery for half the cost of the original or just junk it? I opt to junk it because the battery life is only about 1 1/2 DVD's...not great on a long-haul flight. Also, the power on switch tends to flip on in your bag/backpack, which leaves you without power when you want it. Finally, the menu doesn't work sometimes--hard to explain but it will just not come up and I have had to start some DVD's from the beginning again as it didn't hold the spot. My recommendation: Don't buy this--spend a bit more and get a much more reliable unit. Oh, and Toshiba's customer service is not good.
- Please read other reviews on older model SD-P1700 and you'll see that Toshiba didn't do anything to correct the fundamental problems but just changed the model number. BEWARE and don't buy Toshiba.

- Having trouble with tracking on VCR. Cannot find a way to adjust it, and would cost too much to repair.
- very easy to set up and works well. The buttons on the remote are easy to find and use
- My Mom has one of these. I have spent the last couple of days trying to get it to play different burned DVDs (exact copies). I've tried 3 different types of media (+R -R and -RW) from 4 different manufacturers, burned on two different PCs and it won't play any of them. The manual says these formats are all supported.
If you like a blue screen that says "Disk Error", this is the machine for you.
- This is a steal!! Works great and is very easy to use. You're able to record a program on VHS and watch a DVD at the same time. I bought one and ended up buying two more. I would recommend this unit to anyone. Everything in video/audio is changing so quickly at the moment....if you need a combo unit, don't spend any more $ than this! One minor complaint. There isn't a time/channel/counter display on the front of the unit. Oh well, I got over it!

- They told me was something wrong with the code of the product, they cancel the order. After one week.
- I own two. They have worked wonderfully. I highly recommend this item. I had originally purchased an RCA, but after getting three that never worked, I switched to this product. I could not be more pleased.
- Couldn't get better for the price! It's region free, works with everything and it's very portable. I have two of it for more then 6 months and works very well.

- My girlfriend was looking for a portable DVD player that played Video CD's (VCD) as well as DVD's. I read somewhere that this particular player played VCD's. So far it does the job.
LIKES:
1.Easy connection to a TV.
2.TINY remote control.
3.Sound from the two small speakers.
4.Picture isn't too bad either.
5.The 7" screen size is just right.
6.Battery pack can be charged connected or disconnected
from DVD player.
7.PRICE!!!
8.Two headphone jacks.
DISLIKES:
1.Battery pack makes unit heavy.
2.Battery pack sticks out a ways from the back.
So far this DVD player has met and exceeded my girlfriend and I's expectations. We plan on taking it with us on a trip to her home country. It will really get a good field test then! If anything changes I will do an updated review.

- I loved this TV! It kept me company in the kitchen all day while I cooked, cleaned, and folded clothes. Unfortunately, my house is very quiet lately because my favorite kitchen gadget broke! I went to turn it on the other day, and it worked for about 10 seconds, then went black -- and I can't get it to turn back on. It's a great value, but "you get what you pay for!"
- I bough mine in June of 2005. Well in March of 2006 it just turned off and no matter what I do, it's not coming up. It's dead!!!! I loved it.....but now I am very dissapointed. :( I wrote to Magnavox Customer Service.
We will see what they say.
- I loved this item while it worked and had almost a year of good tuning and dvd play but one day the tv went black of course my receipt is more than faded and magnavox was no help

- It would stop in the middle of movie, freeze, skip. I really hate this player. I bout in the store. If you trying to play computer files, it's starts nicely than it freeze and go to another file. And keeps telling unsupported codec. Do not recommend it. Waist of money.
- I have it hooked to a 48' 1080p LCD via HDMI and the upconversion looks pretty good. I haven't seen other upconversion players so I don't have a baseline but if all you want is a cheap player that looks decent for an HD player this is it
