5 comments about JVC XV-SA600BK DVD Player , Black.
- I am very happy with this progressive-scan DVD player. The menu options are amazing and user friendly. This machine is super quiet and easy to operate. I have had nothing but success with all of the connections. A wonder video composite output along with optical fiber audio out.
- I originally wanted a Panasonic RP-82 but they have been discontinued, so I was searching for the next best DVD player. This JVC has outstanding video performance thru my progressive scan output to my HDTV. Some handy features while watching DVD's include hitting "play" to skip back 10-seconds so you can hear that line you missed, and "Strobe", which displays 9 small pictures on the screen and goes through them in slow motion. I haven't found a good use for that feature yet, actually. Zoom, picture adjustment, and simulated 3D surround sound are other features.
I haven't tried any DVD-Audio yet, or VCDs, but I have used the MP3 function. The folders on the CD are displayed on the left half of the screen and the songs on the right side. Sound quality is good, although it lacks a random play option. Overall, great value for the price! Also comes in silver (SA-602SL)
- I purchased this item from Amazon/J.R. Music last November 2002 when it cost $100 more than now. With minimal and careful use, the unit stopped working this September. Warranty was for parts and labor to six months and parts up to a year. Trusting the JVC name and my great relationship with Amazon, I had no hesitations in purchasing this item at full price. However, less than a year and it reads "no disc" when inserting the disc. After a tedious investigation on how to have the unit replaced or repaired I found out that I would have to mail it to the nearest JVC authorized service dealer ($25 minimum postage) who will charge $70.00 just to look at the unit, with labor on top of that to repair it, then pay return shipping. So it would cost probably more than I paid for it to repair it. The service rep told me that the unit was most likely defective.... oh well....take your chances on this one. It is now collecting dust in my entertainment center. Happy Holidays to one and all.
- This is my first DVD player. Never pay much attention to JVC products. I was in the market for a multi-region PAL/NTSC player with a built in converter and finally narrowed down to the one and only JVC, which offered a "built in PAL/NTSC converter" compared to others (paid extra for the upgrade) and now I can play my PAL discs from just about every country and region vice versa. I like the simple but very classy design in black which matches my system. The unit does offer alot more than I expected including the usual CD format and rarities such as: Super VCD & DVD Audio capability. I use the "Component" RGB hook up and in non-progressive/interlaced mode through a Panasonic 27" flat, and the picture and sound quality is crystal clear!
Weaknesses:
Slight pause during disc layer change (small issue)
DVD Audio in analog? (I could be wrong)
No WMA
JPEG slow (small issue and don't use anyway)
Remote is confusing (too busy)
- I purchased this DVD player a few years ago, when I got a Samsung 30" hd-ready TMX3097WHF tv. I puchased the dvd player, because it recieved great reviews from "Consumer Reports" magazine. I hooked up a Regent HD-391 home speaker system to it and it looked and sounded great. It is a great DVD player.
I just bought a SONY Bravia KDF-50E3000 and hooked up the JVC dvd and the Regent to it and the picture and sound are outstanding. The JVC player does not have a HDMI output, so I will be getting a new DVD player, as soon as the HD-DVD/BLU-Ray format war is over and "Consumer Reports" recommends the best DVD player for sale. Until the DVD format war is over I will continue to use the JVC player. It's great and I recommend it to everyone, especially those people whose tv sets do not have HDMI outputs.

5 comments about Coby DVD-R1280 5.1 Channel DVD Recorder with 80 GB HDD & Progressive Scan.
- The unit works fine and offers a wide range of capability, good capacity and accepts lots of different inputs. The user interface and controls are very poorly done. The unit remembers nothing so you have to keep track of where you are in a program that isn't fully viewed in one sitting. Frequently used functions are buried so that several entries are needed to program, play, fast forward and what have you. The controller is of poor quality and I fear won't last long. Otherwise, seems a fine unit but the poor interface would have prevented me from buying it if I had known of it in advance.
- I purchased this in December 2006. I wasn't thrilled with how all of the features worked, but it did do everything as advertised. Once I became accustomed to the limitations of this machine, I was actually happy with it. However, about 90 days after purchasing the recorder, which comes with a 90 day warranty, the DVD drive completely died. The rest of the machine still works, but what am it's not worth much any more. I guess I should have bought a better brand name with a longer warranty.
- When I first turned it on it would power up, but wouldn't do anything. Coby customer service tried to tell me it was because I used the component out instead of the av cables from the box. While on the phone the picture finally came on. Dvds looked great on it until it froze. Froze while playing from the hard drive. I sent it back.
- This DVD recorder is awesome. We have family videos from 26 years ago & are in the process of copying them to DVD's. The set up was easy & so far everything is working great with no problems. It has some neat features so that you can enter titles for your DVD's & label them, etc.
- The item came very fast set up is somewhat hard but it works great and no complaints.I would like to get a 2 year extended waranty. Please advice.
Thanks

- This DVD player rates pretty high as probably the worst piece if electronic equipment I've ever owned. I bought 3 of them ($40 each). All 3 were defective. In my opinion they are built to break. It feels cheap, it looks cheap. Save your money.

5 comments about Panasonic DMR-E65S DVD Recorder with SD Card Slot (DVD-RAM & DVD-R).
- Very happy that I got to archive my old home VHS to DVD with great results.
Great features:
This is an excellent entry-level DVD-recorder. The TV Guide feature is the reason to past over Panasonic cheaper brother the E55s which just have the VCR-plus feature. TV Guide is a simpler and free version to TiVo. It has an on-screen menu of the channels including title, time, info and the option to record. Sadly, TV Guide feature only work for antenna broadcasting and basic cable. Digital cable and satellite users might have to invest more money into a TiVo recording device (lack of component input here).
The recording quality is great, which is almost the same or lesser then the original, but never better. I transfer old VHS home video to this device and it was easy with excellent quality. Recording TV programs through the antenna is simple, but the quality depends on your reception. DVD-r is more common then DVD+r. I use XP or SP mode (1-2hrs) for VCR transfer, and LP or EP mode (4-8hrs) for TV program.
This is one of the most intelligence video devices I have own yet. There are so many option and setting to configure base on your needs. The SD card reader is a nice extra for this device. I have a Panasonic digital camera with a SD card so it is just plug and play. The manual is simple to follow and understand to figure this complex device.
The have not:
As an entry level recorder would mean this device have less of the advance input features. There are no component inputs which mean you can't recorder from higher quality image. No DV(firewire) input for newer digital camcorder. No hardrive for mix and match recording. The recorder is a 4-stars but the DVD playback is a 3.75-stars. The progressive scan has a lot of settings to customize from, but my Toshisba's DVD is a little smoother. The basic DVD-playback feature is just basic and limited. The old Toshiba has many features as zoom, slow forward, display length of the DVD, which I have yet figure/found. Slow boot time, but that is true to most recorders.
Panasonic quality is great. I have a Panasonic's HDTV for almost a year, a digital camera and they all are working fine with great results. I like Panasonic's pricing which is producing great quality for the price, but they leave out some of the more fancy features and style that Sony has that will jack up the prices. I use Verbatim's Digital Movie DVD-r at 4x and Panasonic's DVD-RAM, anything faster like 8x does not seem to work.
- For the price and the not so technology enabled person, this is a great peice of equipment. It was easy to set up and use. The only thing that may be a problem is the sd slot. I used this to see a slide show of my pics from my digital camera. The picture quality was not the best, but then this was only to review and edit my pics. Putting them on a disc, the picture quality is great. I am very happy with this product.
- In the year that I have had this model I have had to talk to Customer Support eight times. Not only did I have to call them to help me with a problem, I frequently had to wait a long time (over 45 minutes) to get someone on the phone. Once I was talking to someone I either had a really bad experience or a so-so experince. For the amount of technical trouble I have had with this machine, I would never buy another Panasonic product again.
- Although I have called Panasonic and gotten assistance, after 4 weeks I am still unable to get the on-screen TV Guide to work. I am technology-saavy, and even had a friend help me with the unit. No luck. Programming recording without the TV Guide is fine, but that defeats the purpose of buying this machine.
- "U99" Error Problem.Piece of junk, one can not do anything with this machine in presence of that error code. The Machine has not been even used for any rcording-brand new and I was using Panasonic Brand DVD-Ram.
