  1. I recently purchased this tv because my daughter, her husband, their two young children and I were going on a 3,000 mile car trip. We stocked up on DVD's, put the tv and the kids in the back seat of my minivan, and had a glorious trip. No complaints from the kids! I now plan on taking it to my gift/sandwich shop so that my customers can enjoy the DVD's as they sip their coffee or eat lunch.

  2. I bought this system for one reason and one reason only: Entertain the kids in the car. I really did not care about the picture or sound quality. I just wanted something small to fit in the car and that I could easily haul around. To my surprise the picture is crystal clear and the sound of the system is awesome. You can probably find cheaper systems, but you cannot go wrong with this one. I would not trade my TV/DVD combo for anything.

  3. We bought this set for a 36 hour family trip. We have a van so I wanted a little larger screen so the kids could see in the back. When you compare the price with portable players or built-in decks this was great.

We set the TV between the driver seats in our Chrysler Town & Country. I had to remove the passenger side arm rest so it would fit. I built a small stand to raise the TV up about 16 inches. The screen was very clear.

During our travels it never skipped. One nice feature is the resume play mode. When we would stop for food or gas we would turn the power off the TV. Then when we were back on the road we would simply hit the power button and it would resume where we left off.

One concern I had was heat. (With it sitting between us) That was not a problem, but we did have air-condiditioning on most the trip.

It only has one headphone jack. We have 3 kids. So I bought a headphone splitter. Because of the rounded case around the headphone jack I had to modify the headphone jack with a grinder to get it to fit.

All in all this television did everything I asked of it and more and kept the kids happy for about and an hour and a half at a time.

  4. I bought this unit like-new...with the intention of using it in my SUV on weekend trips. It has turned into not only a great system for my car (even hooks into my car stereo via the easily accessible headphone jack), but a great 2nd TV/DVD for my small house.

The unit works great, the controls intuitive, and a plus for "folks like me who tend to lose stuff like remotes" is that the DVD menus are navigable via the controls on the unit.

In-Car, I havent noticed any DVD skipping while the car was in motion. Sound quality on the unit's speaker is adequate for an enclosed room, and played through my car speakers via the headphone jack, it gives the impression that I'm in a state of the art theatre.

If you're in the market, this TV/DVD combo is perfect.

  5. I've had one for a few years and the dvd is gradually working less. I get a "no disk" messege when I put in a normal dvd and it take at least an hour of trying to get it to work. The tv part still works

  1. I was afraid this DVD player would be too small, but is it a nice size for 1 person to watch. Without the case, it fits easily into a bookbag or carrybag because it is not bulky or heavy. However, the case that comes with the player is thick--3 3/4 inches wide--which does make it bulky if you carry the DVD player in the case. The DVD player scratches very easily, too easily, even if you carry it in the case. I used the case and still got scratches in two places on the player. It was a big disappointment, and I've only had the player for a few days. One thing that is true about this player is that it is loud when you turn up the volume, so you can listen to it without headphones. The picture is OK. The battery takes as long to recharge as the length of time you spend watching it, so charge it when you go to bed because it'll take time to charge the battery to its full potential. I wanted to mention one thing that is strange, and I don't know whether the other portable DVD players do the same thing, but this DVD player takes time for your mind to get adjusted to. What I mean is that watching the 7-inch screen gave me a headache (right away) each time I tried to watch it, whether it was in the house or in the car. My mind had to get adjusted to the screen dimensions before I could concentrate on the video. The headaches continued to occur each time I used the player. A regular computer monitor does not do this to my senses and a regular television screen does not do this even when I watched the same movie. So I don't know what it is about this player. Cosmetically, this product is a nice, neat, little thing.

  2. Highs: 8" screen, 2 headphone jacks, long battery life, durable, comes bundled with a bunch of stuff.
    Lows: Almost none.
Bottom Line: Awesome player. I couldn't be happier.

  3. I ordered this based on some information I got from another site that stated it supports the DVD-Audio format. It does not. Not really a negative review. Just doesn't have what I am looking for.

Just posting so that anyone else looking for a portable dvd-audio player (is there anyone?) doesn't make my mistake.

  4. Like many reviewers, I had been very pleased with this portable DVD player. I used it approx. 3 times in three months and when I tried to use it today after charging the battery, I found that it would no longer hold a charge. It is completely dead and, of course, there is no longer any warranty. It's great if you only will use this unit on a/c power but I bought it as a portable for the plane so now it is useless. Avoid.

  5. It will not read new disks out of the package, old disks, it will not read any disk for that matter, and it had barely been used! we bought it to use in our smaller car, it does not have a DVD unit in it like our SUV. We have NEVER used it in the car. I used it on my kitchen table the day i bought it, to test it, watched an entire movie on it while fixing dinner.

I have hooked it up to a TV in the guest bedroom to watch a movie when my children have friends over and i want to watch a movie in quiet. After owning it less than a year, watching LESS than 10 movies, it will not read disks anymore.

I have cleaned it with a cleaner, to no avail. I believe from watching the unit that the eye has stopped moving along the disk to read as it should.

So this was a complete waste of money. DO NOT BUY THIS ONE, spend a little more and get a Sony! in all the years i have been buying electronics i have never had issue with theirs!

  1. Great dvd player for up converting to HD right up to the day it died 4 months later.

  2. Works great for about 1 hour of playback. After that the video freezes and the player will not play anymore. I thought it was overheating so I ventilated it well and even applied dry ice to it with no luck. I upgraded to the latest firmware 3/15/06 and that just made the problem worse. It happens with all types of media, DVDs, DivX, etc. etc. This player is not even worth $.02.

  3. Bought this at J&R two months ago (on sale at $169) good player, even if only upconversion is only through the HDMI (and all my sets are DVI-D) and I had to hunt to find adapters that would be small enough to fit the space on the back of my tv's (Viewsonic and Panasonic). This thing outputs outstanding picture quality when you use the HDMI, and its very good at standard 480P through component.
it is a bit complex in set up but really is worth the effort. Prices on this model are down by more than half in last few months.
I really like this player (much better than the Sony I paid four times as much for a year and half ago).

  4. It was great while it worked during the warranty period. Too bad about 3 weeks afterward, it stopped playing DVD's. Think I'll spend another $250 on a "top of the line" DVD player from Panasonic? Oh no, I won't! If this had been a $50-$100 "throw-away" player, it wouldn't have been a big deal. Time to do some research on who knows how to make a quality DVD player.

  5. I bought this player about 15 months ago and I was very happy with the picture quality and features. But for the price I would have expected it to last longer than the $99 throw away units.
I have other video components over 5 years old and still going strong.
Wish I could find an HDMI player that works well and lasts too!

  1. The Denon DVD-755S model is identical to the Denon DVD-1910, except the 755S is silver and the 1910 is black. I have a review of the 1910 which applies equally to the 755S, since internally the two models are totally the same. (They even share the same user's manual.)

  1. It appears very good. However, when you start using it, you will see some problems...

  2. I bought it because I read a good review by a professional and because it is region free and took it as a birthday gift for my fiance in Asia. We were together about 5-6 weeks took it on daytrips, overnights, a weeklong trip to an Island. The climates were extreme and nothing phased the machine. It was almost completely intuitive to use. After playing between 50 and 75 vcd and dvds from diferent regions I thought the thing worked, looked and did not sound great. But the sound is as good as almost any other I listened to. It comes with all conections you could imagine, the batery lasted a long time, the pic was consistently good even from wide angles off center. What more can I say? I gave away the red one as a birthday present as planned, and now will go out and buy myself the black one. That's the best endorsement I can give.

  3. I bought this unit for playing region 2 DVD's during a 5 week trip to Europe in September and October. However given that the tour was intensive I only used the unit a few times and then packed it away until I wanted to show a DVD of Venice to my family gathering at Christmas. I must have used it then maybe 2 or three times and then I noticed that something was wrong with the hinge on opening it. On closer inspection I found that the whole screen part of the unit was splitting apart. The unit was not dropped and was carried at all times in the DVD case I purchased for it. Presently I am trying to locate support with no success. B & H photo video from where it was purchased has deleted all information about it.

  4. This is a follow-up to an earlier review. I had finally gotten some customer service and a replacement for the unit that fell apart. Homita demanded the original unit to be returned in the orignal packaging but replacement they sent in generic packaging which I thought rather dishonest. The replacement unit had the logo rubbed off - the thing looked worn and used but I assumed it must have been a refurb which I was prepared to accept providing it was operational. Two weeks into the next trip to Europe the second unit fell apart. B&H refuses to stand behind the product. I will not order this type of product from B&H ever again. I am convinced that Homita is incapable of providing me with a working unit.

  1. This DVD replaced an older unit that was starting to have problems. It's an inexpensive unit that has the basic features, but not much more. For just playing movies it's okay, but somewhat disappointing. It is advertised as having a 10 disc memory, but that feature doesn't work reliabily (or at all most of the time). When you eject a disc and put it back in, the player forgets where it was in the movie. It also has a hard time reading discs when they are first inserted, and often requires several door opens & closes to properly identify a clean, new disc. It has even more trouble with slightly scratched discs, and it can't read some movies at all that played fine in my older player. The features are a little odd, and not intuitive. For example, when you are paused, and then hit the forward button several times, it steps forward slower with each press (instead of faster which is the normal method used by most other players). It does have a nice look and a cool lighted tray, but overall the features and performance are disappointing, and it's akward to use.
