  1. I love this! I take it with us whenever we are traveling by auto, and to dialysis to pass the time. The picture quality is wonderful. Although it has to be tilted the right way during sunlight hours. The sound volumn could be a bit better when not using the earphones, but overall I am very pleased with my purchase.

  2. We love the dual headphone jack and 2 pair of headphones. Only complaint is that without the headphones, the volume does not go up high enough and is hard to hear over car noise even at full volume.

  3. Great for road and flight trips. The black carrying case strap is an absolute joke. Did not even last through three uses. Otherwise, highly recommend. For the money, you are getting a solid product that keeps the kids happy while mom and dad try to drive and or sleep. I am most impressed by its durability...we have dropped it twice in the car and it does not skip when the kids are fighting over who gets to hold it. It is also compact and light. Easy to carry around.

  4. I bought this DVD player for our trip to Disney. The unit worked as expected and we had no problems there.
The surprise came after 4 months using this player a few minutes a day in the car. The DVD would take a LOOONG time to load and sometimes the video would freeze for a few seconds. I tried several DVDs, all ORIGINAL! At some point this device just gave up. I can't get it to play anything. It just gets stuck on the "Loading..." screen.

After trying to contact Audiovox for a warranty repair I had an unpleasant surprise when I found out that Audiovox only gives a 90 day warranty on their products. Aside from the fact that their website is useless when it comes to getting warranty information, their customer service reps were almost laughing when I mentioned "Warranty repair". I paid $100 dollars for this P.O.S. and they wanted to charge me $75+2 way shipping for repairs. That's just ridiculous...

Audiovox, say goodbye to my business as I say goodbye to this crappy and disposable DVD you sold me.

  5. the player, headphones, car adaptor, charger, case... it has it all.
nice screen, plays great, very nice! nice price as well! we found it very useful, when our daughter, used it on the flight to Florida.

  1. First of all, one of my selection criteria was I had 3 1/4 slot to put this in. The specifications said" Slimline - 2.6 inches tall". Reality - it is 3.375 inches tall. Must be using a different kind of ruler...

    Now the design specifics:

    * Very slow to load disks compared to my Sony downstairs - on the order of magnitude level.

    * Frequently hangs up when playing CDs. Seems to be the first time through the CD after waking up. The solution is open the drawer and close it again. Doesn't even error-correct, just sits there and clicks the stepper motor.

    * The remote control is awkward to use, especially if lights are low. For example: The big arrow buttons don't change the volume, you have to hit a tiny volume mode button that's mixed in with two rows of identically sized and shaped buttons. Then you can change the volume. But make sure to get it right, the volume mode times out and you'll have to find that little button again...

I could go on and on, I hate thoughtless bad design, but I have other things to do...

  2. I've had my Samsung P401 for just a little over a year and in general I was pleased with it. It played most DVDs with no problems. The only disk it wouldn't play was a badly scratched DVD from the library. I bought it because of the Progressive Scan and component out features, thinking that I would still have it in a few years when high definition TVs became reasonably priced. Looks like that won't happen since just 2 weeks after the 1 year warranty expired it quit working. No signal at all.

  3. I have owned a few DVD players since they became popular, others being Toshiba models and such. I have to say that especially for the price this is the best one I have owned so far. The progressive scan is of great quality, I love component output, and the menu seems self explanitory to me. It supports all the MP3s I've burnt so far, and VCDs for that matter. All you have to do is put them in, so I don't see what's so difficult, or what you'd need a manual for. I have owned my player for almost 2 years I believe (longer?) and have never had any problems. I noticed some people have had problems with it not reading disks, and I absolutely have to include the following: If your disks are NOT playing, make sure they are clean, and of the correct format. If this is not the problem, you must clean the lens on the DVD player itself. Yes, this is normal and should be done periodically, otherwise it will not function in time. This player does a great job of providing a smooth layer transition (that little glitchy part in the middle of some movies), and is quiet and doesn't tend to overheat like others I've had. I highly reccomend this player, as I've used others and know how good this one is compared to others of same/similar price. And just to let you know I'm not some bonehead on a computer either. I'm a CS major and have extensive knowledge of audio/video equipment. Of course if you don't believe me, you can just check it out yourself.

  4. We bought this as our first DVD player. We thought Samsung was a reliable brand plus it had good reviews on a few sites.
At first it was great then slowly we started to have problems. Last year we started noticing pixelation on some scenes but we blew it off as just something on the disc (dust, dog hair, etc...). Then it started doing it on brand new DVDs & everything went down hill from there.
Now it skips scenes, freezes up and continues to pixel on scenes. Very frustrating! Sometimes it works perfect, other times you have to restart three or four times just to get the movie going.
Of course the warrenty is expired & there isn't anything we can do except take it to "an authorized dealer". (Yeah, right!)
We got 3 years worth of viewing out of it, but I was hoping for quite a few more.

  5. I first got this DVD player as a present back in September of 2003 and it still works great. I also bought new gold plugs for it last May and I must say with those you get the best picture and sound available for your tv when using this player. I always hook my Sony V600s up to the tv in order to listen to music and watch movies without any outside distractions. The way cds sound is absolutely fantastic almost the exact same way it could be heard in a studio it sounds so clear.I never knew I could get so much great sound and picture out of a little Sylvania tv and I have this great device to thank for it. I havent had any problems with it so far but if I do I'll clean the lens.

  1. I hate my Sony DVD player. Worked great for the first six months, but now I receive the message "Please insert disc" when I put in a DVD. If I can get the player to work by repeatedly inserting a DVD, the player skips from chapter to chapter and breaks apart when trying to read the DVD. I am surprised to find a substandard product from Sony. I have repeatedly purchased Sony TV's and various other products without incident.

  2. Hate it! - I bought my Sony DVD player about 6 months ago, worked great then out of the blue I kept getting "cannot play" errors. It will play music CDs or video CDs but NOT DVDs. Called the Sony help desk, they had me unplug it for 2 minutes, plug it back in, then insert a DVD - same message. Their response was that for 39.99 and shipping they would give me a replacement "refurbished" unit. For that price I bought a Zenith on sale.

  3. Maybe I should get together with some of the other disappointed buyers of this DVD player. My unit will play DVDs but won't play CDs. I use the term "will play DVDs" loosely because they have to have a pristine surface, or the unit will freeze up and skip chapters. It won't play 85% of the rental DVDs that I bring home. It wouldn't burn me so much if I could use the thing for a transport for CDs and feed the signal to a good digital analog converter, but it won't even read CDs. Brand new, or not. I bought this at Circuit City without doing my homework. I like Sony products but this player is a dog. Even when it plays, the picture isn't great. In progressive mode there are artifacs and it has a gamma problem. Save your money by doing your homework.

  4. My player just died same as all the other reports on here. Any disc I entered it reports "cannot play disc." I've tried all the standard troubleshooting steps to no avail. It did last for a year and a half, but now the replacement and repair costs are basically the same as a new unit.

This is the second Sony DVD Player I've had that has simply stopped working. I suggest two choices
    1) get an extended warranty and expect to periodically replace it, or
    2) stay away from Sony DVD players

  5. I love this DVD player. I bought mine about two years ago and it still plays every disc perfect. My wife and I have different schedules and like different tv shows on DVD. This player is perfect because it remembers exactly where I am when she changes discs, I just put mine back in and it plays.
