  1. I have ordered this item and out of whole theater system I have received 5 speakers that come with it, but no DVD/VCR combo or remote controles.
After talking to cust. service we have returned it back to AMAZON.
I am rating it with one star, but it I had choice to I would of given 0 stars.

  1. It's really a great system for the price. I bought this for my husband for Christmas (even thought I'm the one who really wanted it and uses it) and it's great. We watch all TV on surround sound now.

    - At first I thought it would be too many speakers for our relatively small living room, but it's perfect for a 12 X 12 room. The problem is that the speaker wire that came with it doesn't support a room this size. I haven't bothered to buy speaker wire because it's all color coded in the back, and with six inputs, it's just trading one hassle for another.
    - I wish the radio antennae got better reception. The radio was one of the main reasons I bought this unit.
    - The remote isn't very advanced, but easy to use. I have DirecTV and wasn't able to get their universal remote to control the home theater system. I don't think that is RCA's fault though.
    - The DVD quality is great. I'm not the kind of person to just replace electronic equipment just because it's old, only because it's no longer working and I am super impressed with the quality difference from my 10 year old DVD player I replaced.
    - The USB feature is also great. I haven't used it much, but I'm happy it's there.

All in all, the only regret I have with this system is that I didn't spring for a more expensive model with wireless speakers, which would have been much more expensive. This is a great unit for the price.
    -

  2. Nice system, however, the sound is not loud enough for the reason you would buy product like this. We had another system we bought at Walmart a few years ago for half the price and it worked great until recently. We have returned this item.

  3. For the price, you can't beat it. I put it in my bedroom and not only was it easy to hook up, but the sound is excellent. I just like all the features it has (mp3 player, five disc changer, AM/FM radio)for such a good price. I'd recommend it.

  4. Cheap product is what you get when you do not spend the money for something better. I should have known better than to buy a RCA product. It only took one week for the dvd player to stop functioning, all five of the trays. The only thing decent on it is the radio turner, at least that works.

  5. as usual, great service from amazon. internet information after purchase was timely and accurate. package arrived in good condition and was easy to install. installed in a living room that was 18' by 14' and the sound is excellant. i did not use the speaker cords that came with the unit as i considered them to be rather flimsy. purchased heavy duty speaker cord from wal-mart for the install. nothing was wrong with the stock cord other than the fact that it was not copper and was rather lightweigh. i would recommend this product to anyone who is on a budget but would still like a system that provides all the needs of a normal viewer who doesn't care about all the high-priced frills.

  1. Just recently purchased this from amazon, a few hiccups with the shipping but these things happen, and since the price online was great and the shipping was free it doesn't hurt to bad to overlook the mishap.
It's hard to begin to praise the quality of sound and picture your going to get for the amount of money that you pay with this HTIB (home theater in box) system. I am by far no expert but I have worked in the car audio industry for 5 years now and have a few friends with expensive surround systems so I know the difference between quality sound, decent sound and bad sound. There is a noticable difference in quality between this and the high end stuff which is to be expected, but for the price your paying this sony system can't be beat. The set up is a breeze and connecting everything is very easy. The sound is crisp and clear. I got my 42 LCD tv a few weeks before this and for a while I was watching movies off the Xbox360. The picture was great but the sound really didn't add up. This system has provided a sound level with a quality to equal the picture. There have been a few times when I have jumped up while loungin on the couch cause the sound was so real. Also if your a gamer pick up an optical cable for the 360 and run it through this system it will broadcast games in 5.1 digital which will change your life. If your a gamer and have digital cable, you'll need to pick up a digital coaxial cable as well otherwise you'll have to switch the optical from the 360 to the cable if you want to watch cable in 5.1
Picture wise DVDs look great, I can tell a noticable difference in quality with the upscaling vs watching a dvd on a reg. player. Bear in mind it is not going to look like an HD DVD or a Blu Ray movie does but its pretty close and should satisfy most people.
Now for addressing some of the critics out there.
It does load really slow and it can be hard keeping track of discs. My point is why would you have 5 dvds loaded in the first place you only watch one movie at a time, unless your marathoning the sopranos or a sergio leone movie night there is no need. I've been keeping slots one and two open for dvd and leaving the other 3 for music which seems to divide things up and makes it more easy to keep track of things.

The sub is way to loud. I'm amazed that sony didn't put a control knob on the sub box, as my previous and cheaper phillips system as well as my computer speakers did. This is the reason why its not a five star system. Contrary to other claims you can adjust the sub. You have to go to the setup menu and customize the setup (this is after you do the auto cal.)

The sound quality for music isn't the greatest, cds sound pretty good but if you hook a laptop up digital music volume is pretty low.

When its all said and done, the quality you get for this system is well beyond the price tag. It has a few kinks and doesn't sound like a ultra high end system, but you really don't need something like that in your house unless you have a huge home theater room anyway. The styling of this system is retro and pretty cool the speakers look great, and the picture and sound are awesome.

  2. For the money, it is a great buy! looks and sounds very good. I compared the sound of other similarly priced systems and this one definitely had the better sound (at least to my liking).

  3. I purchased this system while I repaired my flood damaged house after Katrina. Before I closed the walls and ceilings with sheet rock I put the rear side speaker wires inside the walls. Somehow my dog got hold of the package which contained the rest of the speaker wires and chewed up one of the wires. The wires to this system have special plugs that plug into the rear of the system. I contacted Sony thinking that I could get a replacement for that wire. Well I was told that I would have to buy all the speaker wires which would cost me 65 plus dollars. I haven't even installed the system yet and had I known that Sony would force me to buy the whole set I would not have bought the system. I will never buy another Sony product again. There are a lot of good systems out there but Sony has left me with a bad taste in my mouth about their company. If I could afford it I would throw the whole system in the trash.

  4. Well, I bought this system after Thanksgiving. I really enjoyed the sound over the last year. But recently, the 5CD stocker broke down. The system can't eject DVDs nor can play them... I just can't do anything with it now... and it happened right after the limited 1 yr warranty expired :(

  5. My CD Stacker/DVD Stacker broke right after the year warrantee ran out also!!! I bought it for my husband for a Christmas present and we have been using it all year, but then in February one year and one month later, it won't play any movies. Sad to say we are using my eight year old daughter's DVD player from WAL-MART that works great and it was a whopping $29.98!

  1. This unit works fine about 70% of the time but has started not recognizing DVD's. I assumed the lens needed cleaning so I bought a Maxell DVD Lens Cleaner. It would not recognize the disk. It showed the message "Bad Disk". Finally, after turning the power on and off several times it recognized the disk. Cleaning the lens didn't seem to help. I e-mailed RCA customer support and received a reply to call customer support to discuss the problem. I called the toll free number and was connected to a customer support center in Manila. They were absolutely no help at all. Their only advice was to clean the lens. Please, save your money. Do not buy this unit. I will NEVER purchase anything made by RCA

  2. This system is so bad, that just looking at it now puts me in a bad mood. The speakers are average, but the DVD player has the strangest balance. The system has scratched more DVDs than I can remember. If you feel like having a $200 dust collector that produces poor sound and destroys your stuff, then this is for you. I will never own anything by RCA again, nor will I wish this poor product on anyone.

  3. We bought this item less than 6 months ago and it has caused problems from the 2nd month, only after throwing away the receipt! The trays are flimsy and cheap and it takes a long time to change through the features. It stopped reading 90% of all our DVDs even after cleaning and taking it apart for a spray down. Save your money and buy something better

  4. My husband bought this as a surprise.
It was the highest end at the store
he shopped at. I would not have purchased
another RCA product as the prior two were
    returned for being defective.

This product has a fan that moans and
groans real loud for about five minutes
until it warms up. Some of the features
just come and go. The first night it was
just great - but give it a week. It was the
same way with the last two, they should last
longer than a month!? But they don't. Never
    again I say.

  5. Pro's
    ---------
-Delivers a pretty good suround sound effect for the price.
-Holds 5 CD's of any type (not mini cd's)
    -Modern look, and slim design
    -Easy to set up
    -HDMI
    -USB hook up
-Easy to change speaker settings during playback.
    -----------
    Cons
    -----------
-Minor hiss sound when on but not when playing media.
-CD/DVD deck is a little noisy when playing or switching.
-Difficult to use controller to switch CD/DVD's
-Turning off the device sometimes makes a static sound.
-USB Media Bridge is a little slow.
-No sound output (like to TV)
    ------------------
    Personal expiriance with product=
Hooked up to a LG 42 Inch LCD TV.

The HDMI port does not work on mine.
Though HDMI is useless because the port is for video only.
You cannot use your tv speakers with this device.

Overall it's an ok system, but I would get something else.

5 comments about RCA RTD260 1000 Watts 5-Disc DVD/CD Home Theatre System with HDMI Sirius Ready.
  1. Well, just as a few other reviews I have read, I'm working on sending my second unit back to the service center for an exchange. The first unit started by randomly telling me that my DVD was a "BAD Disc" after about of minute of trying to load. Then it would lock up or freeze while playing a movie and I had to unplug it to reset the thing. Sent that one in and got a new unit that played fine the first few days and then, you guessed it, right back to the same symptoms once again. This time around I was able to get the service rep to send me a prepaid shipping label to send the unit back so I don't have to fork over another $41 shipping fee to send it back. If you're looking for a home theater system you may want to spend the extra money on one that you won't end up watching your movies on between returns and exchanges. This one is not a good choice at all so far.

  2. After reading other reviews I had my reservations to buy the RTD260 system. But, price and the features it offers (every thing including HDMI)with 1000 Watts of power, I would give it a try. I'm not using it with an HDTV yet but will need it in the future if I purchase one. I purchased the unit through Amazon. I could track the unit from when my order was processed to when I received it. I purchased this to install it in my RV 5th wheel (36')Camper. The speakers were small enough to be mounted with speaker mounting brackets I purchased from ShopKo.It took about 4 hours to install and run the wires so they would be hidden. When I fired the system up the Radio (AM/FM)worked very well. The sound had the best quality in the Stereo mode. I think this was because the Radio station transmitted in Stereo. Put in the 1st movie and WOW!!! It was just like being at the theater. Sub-Woofer added so much to the movie. Didn't try the USB input or the (2) external audio inputs yet but bottom line I'm very pleased with this unit.

  3. I have had this system for 4 months and I have replaced it three times. The first one had an internal cooling fan so loud that it drowned out the sound of the movies. RCA says "defective." The second one wouldn't play 3/4 of my DVDs--ones that had scratches and ones that were fresh out of the case. Again, "defective unit." The third one has trouble accessing special features and sub-menus. It will freeze in the middle of a film. Sometimes it won't turn off! I have to unplug it. So...when the fourth one gets here, it's off the Craigslist--RCA WILL NOT REFUND YOUR MONEY for a consistently defective product. I couldn't be less happy with this product. What good is surround sound if the player won't play the media? I end up playing movies on my Playstation 2--which NEVER has problems playing DVDs. Too bad the RCA receiver has no suitable audio input for the PS2. PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY OR GET YOUR HOPES UP WITH THIS EXCREMENTAL PRODUCT.

  4. The price looks good but after you need to send it back several times it becomes expensive. I had three units and they all had the same problem. CD's skipped between every song and DVD's either wouldn't play or would have a split screen. The customer service is a complete nightmare. The people there specialize in giving you the run-around. I finally got my money back after 7 months of fighting and $95 in shipping that I will not get back. Also, the customer service phone number in the instruction manual and on the RCA website is incorrect. DO NOT BUY THIS STEREO! Do yourself a favor and spend a little more for a better unit.

  5. I bought a "refurbished" unit for my mother-in-law. All she wanted was the CD music and Sirius radio - no DVD or anything else. Felt for this "basic functionality" I was OK with a used unit. Well guess again! Unit totally quit working after only 2 weeks. Does power on then just sits there with a blank screen. You cannot even power it off. Only way to power off is to unplug it. Wow! I am just starting to work though the Customer Service nightmare. Oh, and by the way, "Sirius Ready" means you have to buy an additional $50 receiver for it to work with Sirius.

4 comments about Yamaha YHT-680BL Home Theater in a Box (Black).
  1. I ordered these on the recommendation of a friend of mine. The box arrived on time and in good shape. Everything was well packed to prevent damage. I unpacked and set up speakers around the room using the included guide. It was very easy to set up. The sound quality is really good. Very rich and full.

My only complaint was that i needed about 25feet more wire, but I also have a large living room so most will be okay.

  2. Great performance for an excellent price! I previously had a Yamaha receiver that lasted me over 20 years! It actually still works so I knew I was buying a quality system. I wanted to upgrade to a newer system that has smaller speakers and can connect to an iPod.

The sound quality is excellent. I have never had a subwoofer, and although I think this is a pretty small one, it adds a nice punch to the bass.

I also purchased the Yamaha iPod dock - one feature I was excited about was having the receiver show what song is playing from your iPod, but I have yet to get this to work. I think you may have to connect with a separate cable which is not included; odd since it comes with a nice Dock Cable. Perhaps I am not using properly.

The only thing I think would be better is for the system to come with better audio cables and speaker wire. But I think most Home Theater Systems come with the same standard cables, which is a shame. Cables aren't cheap.

That said, Yamaha is great. You really can't go wrong - especially for this price.

  3. I purchased this home theater system because of the Yamaha brand name, but I found the instructions voluminous and complicated. Also I was a little surprised that the cable to hookup the speaker system had to be stripped and didn't have snap in and color coded connectors.

  4. I ordered this product and had it on my doorstep in 4 days. TigerDriect was great! Everything works great. A bit of a challenge to set up with the HD TV between the HDMI cables, digital opital cables, coaxial cable, regular cables... I'm not a tech person, but I figured out. The sound is very nice.

5 comments about Philips HTS3566D/37 1000 Watt 1080P HDMI Upconversion Dolby DVD Home Theater System with iPod Dock.
  1. I bought it and hook up that night. Sound is great. It play DVD, CD, VCD, USB devices. It play most of media files and DivX files. If sound is good, it plays very good, same like in Movie Theater.

  2. Philips sent me this model (HTS3566D) after the old model (HTS3555) I had was having problems. The old system would not sync the audio with the video. Very annoying problem... they sent me 3 HTS3555's as replacements and they all had the same problem.

Eventually they sent me a new unit, this model. This one was great, had no audio sync problems... that is until it blew up! I was watching TV with my home theater system on and suddenly I heard a POP and a loud buzzing coming out the of the speakers (The volume was not turned up loud either, just normal volume)! The stereo would not turn off either. I had to unplug it. Now when I plug it in it makes a loud buzzing sound and the LCD screen does not light up... only loud buzzes.

Philips is sending me a replacement unit. I hope that it does not explode too! I definitely would not buy this unit again though knowing that mine exploded!

  3. Speakers are powerful enough considering the price. Upscale conversion works great with my HDTV. The product comes with an Ipod dock which is definitely a plus...you can even control your Ipod using the DVD remote that comes with it.

I found out that if you are connected to your TV via HDMI, you need to turn off HMDI audio out in the options menu. That way, the digital audio still comes off the DVD speakers.

USB connector work well with my AVI files. My cable box is even connected through this using the digital input connection.

  4. This works great for what we wanted. You have to play with it alittle to get the volume from your tv to it if you do not have a volume out plug. I had to read the directions to my husband for him to not be pissed and want to break it. Use a digital audio wire for the tv.

  5. I bought this unit to replace my aging Home Theater system and also take advantage of the capabilities of the HD TV I already own.

First, the "Quick Start" guide tells you everything you need to know to set up the entire unit and get it operational. The Quick Start Guide covers both the HTS3565D unit (standard speaker design) and the HTS3566D which has surround sound towers. The English portion of the guide covers a total of four pages. An additional eight are written in Spanish and French.

Packaged in the box are the unit, remote control and two batteries, an RCA jack patch cable for composite video, FM antenna wire, user manual (in addition to the quick start guide), color coded and keyed speaker wires, screws (for the surround towers) and an iPod docking station. An HDMI cable is NOT included. Speakers are comprised of a center speaker (with one mid-range and two tweeters), two front speakers (each with a tweeter and mid-range), two surround speakers (with three mid-range and one tweeter each), and a sub-woofer with one twelve inch driver. This is a total of sixteen drivers.

All of this is contained in a single box that hides the fact that two towers are part of the system. This is accomplished by making the towers a two part unit that has to be assembled outside the box. All of the other components require no more assembly that hooking up the speakers (a very easy task with the color coding) and hookups for connection to the TV/projector, antenna, and iPod dock.

Assembling and placing all of the components is very easy and took no more than a half-hour if that. The Quick Start Guide is amply illustrated and written instruction very understandable and easy to follow. In fact I'll go so far as stating that the actual manual is almost superfluous.

The menu system surpasses my older unit by a considerable margin. As in the best units it is possible to make a myriad of selections from the menu including fine tuning the volume of each individual speaker via pink noise. Note that this fine tuning can only be done when the unit is in DVD operation mode.

Once operational, the unit supports DVD, AM, FM, two AUX inputs, MP3 input, and iPod input. It also has a pair of RCA jacks for Aux sound from the TV. Naturally this greatly enhances the sound quality of your broadcast television viewing.

The sound quality, while watching DVDs (with sixteen speakers I should not have been surprised) that I have yet to be able to watch a movie at half volume without the fear of disturbing my neighbors. The volume scale goes to forty (40), but I typically have to keep level at ten (10) or one quarter of the maximum volume.

With some tweeking I was able to lower the volume of the sub-woofer enough that I can now dial up a volume setting of fifteen (15). This is still remarkably loud.

    I have only three complaints.

The first is minor and was temporary. After connecting the HDMI cable it took a while (maybe fifteen minutes maximum) for the unit to get both the sound and picture in synchronization. In other words I did not have sound for that period of time while the unit made some internal adjustments. This IS covered in the manual (thankfully as I thought I'd bought another defective product) and have not had a problem with it since. Note that the HDMI Audio in the menu system must be OFF to play DVDs through the player's speaker system. HDMI Audio ON is for component home theater receivers separate from the player.

Second, the surround sound speaker wire could be a few feet longer. This cannot be fixed by patching a few extra feet of wire yourself as the wire is already terminated with keyed, color coded connectors.

My third complaint is that the unit did not come with an HDMI cable. With a take home price of nearly $300.00 I would expect Philips to be able to afford throwing in a forty dollar, six foot cable. Naturally, the best picture quality dictates the purchase of this cable. That said the up-conversion is very good and seamless.

Finally, the picture quality is quite good, the sound amazing (the first war film I watched nearly blew me off the couch), and the reliably what I've come to expect from Philips. After having bought a competitor unit that did not work new out of the box, I was a bit apprehensive about this purchase. But after a month of use I am very happy with it. The external design in clean and complementary to most home decor. The picture and sound quality excellent and now I no longer anticipate buying a Blu-Ray unit at twice the price along with the associated high cost of Blu-Ray discs.

    I feel I've made a good purchase.

  1. great for a bedroom loud clear and gets the job done.also note there is no eq tone controlls however the preset surround modes works good enough.

  2. This was a Christmas gift for our son and he loves it. The sound quality is great and product arrived from shipper as stated. Will definitely utilize seller again if future needs arise.

  3. This system is pretty much what I expected from reading prior reviews. It works well and does the job although it does not give "theatre sound" to a large room. Speakers work best with CDs than with the TV as the volume only goes to 50 and in a large room, that is far from booming. Overall, for the price, a great system. Love the 5 CD/DVD changer.

  4. ...even though it's an overall decent system, you get what you paid for.
-Sound quality is decent, good bass.
-Love the 5-disc changer... I use it mainly for playing CD's.
-USB is useful to play MP3's.
Bottomline - If you can spend a few more dollars for a better system, do it. If not, this system isn't bad.
UPDATE:3/3/2008 STOPPED WORKING AFTER 5 MONTHS OF USE.

  5. I PURCHASED THIS HOME SYSTEM FROM MY LOCAL STORE. IT WORKED GREAT FOR SIX MONTHS, THEN STOPPED WORKING. THE SURROUND SOUND WAS GREAT FOR SUCH A LOW PRICE.
