  1. I wanted a really nice system as I'm a bit of an audio buff, but I didn't want to make any mistakes trying to put together a system of individual components, so I decided to find a great HTIB (home theatre in a box). I have really enjoyed my Panasonic system. It gets pretty loud with the right connections but doesnt quite shake the room. The subwoofer is very impressive, and the rest of the system has amazing quality sound; crisp, clear, and haunting with the right music going! The surround speakers are fairly large so make sure you have enough space for them, even if you are mounting them on the wall. I've gotten a lot of comments on how nice the system looks especially paired with a silver themed flatscreen tv. The reciever is nice and slim with a nice mirrored finish and a feature i really enjoy is the sleep timer. This system really makes a statement!

  2. I live in a dorm room making a bit different from open rooms not to mention the dorm is older then sin. Neighbors complain about the base on a daily basis even though I have it up off the ground on my dresser but I'm sure in a house it would be awesome. Crisp, clear but sometimes in movies its hard to hear what they are saying. You can hear a pindrop in the movies though. Haven't quite figured that out but still a good buy for a system in a box..

  1. I have this system and I absolutely love it. There are people who have slammed this product (think they refer to themselves as audiophiles) For the average person who just wants great sound, this is for you. You can store up to 200 hours of music in the receiver, which is awesome! I highly recommend it!!

  2. This system can only be described as awsome. I had my doubts at first, but as I continued to compare it to my component system, there was no comparison. I can finally watch movies and hear the dialog without waking up the neighbors. I can store up to 200 cds on the system without having to owrry about networking and sound quality etc. If this is going to be your only system, beware that you will lose some flexibility. That is the only negative comment I have, other than that, go for it. If you can afford the 48, then don't think twice. It'll be the best system you've ever listened to.

  3. While the sound quality is good, this $3k system is definitely not up to the hype due to poor UI and Usability designs by Bose. I would not have bothered if I was buying even $1500 system but for 3k it is not really worth. While everyone talks about how great this system is, let me talk about some major drawbacks of this system that no one talks about:

    1) It does not display Track/album info for custom CDs (for e.g. the ones you ripped off from online music stores) and MP3 CDs! Yes, thats true! How can anyone browse through 100+ songs from an MP3 CD and select the song that they want without seeing any track/album display on the TV Screen? I am extreamly upset with Bose lacking "common sense" here! Come on Bose, even my old $100 cheap DVD system can display this info on the screen! If you let the users play mp3 CDs didn't it occur to you that they would perhaps would like to choose the song they want to listen to?

    2) It does not let you store MP3 CDs.

    3) It does not let you transfer music from your PC.

    4) It does not import the Title/Album info for the custom CDs that you burn with music that you have downloaded. It just names all the tracks and album info for the this type of CD with '-No Label-' title! You have to spend days to Edit (BTW editing is horrible too) all this info to make it right (if you have patience at all). If you end up storing more then one custom CDs, they all look the same when you browse through music library! So, there is no way to distinguish between them and hence you are really screwed! If you were to edit the title of a song/album, there is no way to listen to the song (to make sure it is the right song) while editing it! While listening, you can't edit the title! How stupid!

    5) Browsing through music library is a pain. If you have 200 CDs, there is no way to skip to a particular CD in a second. for e.g if you want to go to 100th CD, you have to cick 100 times to get to it in the list! Same thing goes for Artist, Album and track selection.

    6) The playlist feature is not really good. You are stuck with UMusic and a very basic playlist option.

    7) Editing feature is not really intutive. There is no way you can key in letters using the Remote controls number pad (such as the ones you have with Cellphones. Each number will have 3 letters assigned to it etc...) There is no way to play and doublecheck the song while editing the title for a song/album. So, imagine yourself editing a bunch of songs with no preview!

Well the bottomline is that this pricy system is lacking so many basic features showing how Bose did not do a good job of focussing on usability. It is not just about the sound, the system should be functional too! I hope Bose realizes this soon! In any case Bose just lost their image as far as I am concerned!

  4. Incredible sound. Simple, easy to use. My friends tell me one word...it's Bose.

  1. Clarity is superb. Subwoofer is ok but lacks a little in deep base response. Had a little problem positioning the surround speakers in a 20' x 20' room being that my tv is in a corner and not centered. The AdaptIQ proceedure helped alot, but a fade control from left to right and front to back wouldv'e been appreciated. All in all I've compared this system with others in about the same price range and couldn't find any better.

  1. The sound experience is incredible. The subwoofer is incredibly powerful. Friend, Dolby 6.1 Lord of the Rings- ROTK makes this system sing. You really get great speakers for the money. They look nice too- the speakers don't have the "boxy" look of many other systems- rather, they are very sharp looking with mostly polished metal casing. (some plastic too) They are quite stylish and not bulky.

The DVD player unfortunately has problems playing burned DVDs, however. Tried DVD +R and DVD -Rs, and neither seem to work. I am amazed that Onkyo didn't think of this.

The AMP is basic in functionality but quite nice though- never had a problem with it. It is very simple to use and responsive to your commands. It allows easy selection between the various audio surround formats- Dolby 2.1, 5.1, 6.1, Neo 6, Pro Logic, etc. I have to say I really like this amp.

I would recommend buying the 6.1 speaker package separately from this DVD player. (Search on: ONKYO SKS-HT240) Get the speakers, then get either this amp or a comparable one, then buy a newer, reliable upscaling 1080p DVD player.

Make sure you know how to hook up a surround sound system with optical audio cables (this is true of any system, not just this one) or you are missing out.
