  1. This system has never worked right. I should have returned it immediately. It intermittently locks up on boot up and shut down. I've never been able to sync it to mt Panasonic plasma TV. I even had an installer try it. When I select the DVD/CD function, it locks up most of the time. The only resolution is to disconnect the AC power cord to reboot. I have until Sept. on the warranty so I'm going to try once to get it fixed, if I can find the receipt. Then I'll probably buy another system - no more Panasonic though.

  1. I'm sorry to say that I too have seen the 'standby' glitch but in the past I was able to unplug the system and power it back on to fix the problem. UNTIL TODAY
Now when I power on the system it flashes 'DVD' for a second, then goes blank. I cannot eject or insert a DVD. No display on the TV. But the FM tuner and audio inputs still work.
This system cost me $400 2.5 years ago. I was never thrilled with it - sound is ok, but no Treble/Bass or EQ adjustment is available.
It also takes forever to switch between disks, maybe an acceptable sacrifice for such a sleek system.. but now it no longer functions for me.
Not that anyone is going to be buying these new anymore. Just steer clear!

  2. I can't believe that Sony has not done something about this. Our system has the same CD and power problems! I have already mounted the speakers on the walls and would love to just replace the unit with something compatible. I used to always buy Sony products but after this piece of junk, I'm looking elsewhere for dependable electronics

  3. Sounds like a broken record about this machine - but when powered on the DVD display blinks twice and then goes blank. At this time and for some time later (maybe days or weeks) the DVD function won't work - no eject, no insert - no play!!

If you want one, I will sell you mine - certified not to be working on arrival.

  4. The machine exhibits substantial mechanical problems after less than 1 year of minimal use; unable to eject DVD's, the machine stays in "Standy Mode" until I manually unplug it. I strongly recommend that you don't purchase this. It seems very unlike SONY to produce such a piece of trash.

  5. I have the Sony Dream System DAV-FC7, and now its experiencing a continuous high pitched whine on all inputs except dvd, even when no input cables are connected. It seems to be a common problem as its mentioned on many web forums. A piece of JUNK, I will never buy Sony again.

  1. A good sound through the front set of speakers, wireless rear speaker set-up that works OK. But overall works fine. There is no interference with wireless internet. Ocassionaly stops working to avoid interference with other electronics in the house...I have noticed it stop when we use the microwave that is near by.

  2. I was not looking to break the bank on an entertainment center. I just wanted a reliable one with wireless rear speakers. This one has 2 speakers in one large wireless rear. One power plug no other wires for the speaker. The wireless is RF (RF- does not need a direct line of sight infa-red does). It was purchaced through Amazon from Discount Jungle refurb so it was only $185 (-$30 for getting Amazon card: $155). This is $400 new and most name brands with wireless rear are minimum $400. Works fine, sounds great. Great buy if your not looking for top of the line.

  3. The sound was never that good. But I didn't have to worry about that since 6 months later it died. Kaput. Error F65. I replaced it with a Phillips purchased on sale at BestBuy. The quality & sound is so much better! Shop around on this one, it's not worth it.

  4. I bought this because of the wireless rear speaker that comes with it. Problem is though I have a wireless network set up in the house for my computer and printer. When I use the internet it interferes with the speaker and the sound cuts in and out. Other than that this system works great and was easy to set up. I love having big sound with my big TV.

  5. Well, it DID work. We paid $209.99 for this in January 2007 and for a while the system met our needs. Not a very strong rear (wireless) speaker, but okay. It was adequate. In September 2007 however, the rear speaker stopped working. Today the whole system stopped working altogether. It tries to power up but quickly shuts down with a display that reads F61. The User's Manual says when you have a F61 error to, "Check and correct the speaker cable connections. If this does not fix the problem, consult the dealer." Yep, it didn't sound good to me either. Not only are the speaker cable connections fine ~ EVERY cable and EVERY connection is just as it should be. It had a one-year warranty so we missed coverage by just about a month. I googled "panasonic f61" to find a veritable PLETHORA of info out there, NONE of it good. Apparently the dreaded F61 error is the "kiss of death", not only for this model but for others made by Panasonic as well. This error has happened to MANY ~ some reporting it's an overheat situation, others saying it's shorted out, others saying the unit shuts itself down to prevent a power surge that will blow out the amps. No one, apparently not even Panasonic, seems able to FIX the thing! Individual REPAIR SHOPS reported buying multiple replacement parts that had been recommended by Panasonic only to find out one by one over a period of months that none of them would repair the unit. People said that they waited endlessly for a replacement refurb. One person reported Panasonic wanted to charge them $250 to repair the unit. (Remember, this was originally $209.99) I lived thru this VERY problem with a Brother all-in-one printer and I know how these kiss of death errors work. So I'm saving myself a lot of aggravation and just going to take a trip to the dump on my way out shopping for another wireless HTIB. Needless to say it will NOT be made by Panasonic. No surprise here that I do NOT recommend this product at all ESPECIALLY learning this is in no way an uncommon occurence and Panasonic seems not only unwilling to stand behind their products but unaware of what to do to even FIX the thing! Before buying any Panasonic Surround Sound/Home Theater/DVD players may I strongly suggest that you first Google Panasonic F61???

  1. The quality of this DVD player is absolutely amazing. The progressive scan technology looks great even on a normal TV! The sound quality is unmatched and along with Dolby Digital 5.1 there is two sweets that make this deal amazing. The first is Dolby Pro-Logic 2, which is great for watching TVmovies and other nice programing encoded for this format. It is also GREAT for the GameCube which uses Pro-Logic 2 for surround! The best part of this deal is the DTS support!!! DTS for under $200!!!!! When I turn this DVD player to widescreen and then use the 16:9 aspect ratio on my 32" Flat CRT TV the quality is similar to HDTV!! Make sure when you get it and you are using a 4:3 display to change the setting on the system to tell it that you are using 4:3 otherwise it will default to wide and it will look bad on your TV!! Great buy!

  2. Bought it Nov. 2003, broke 9/30/04 and the warranty covers labor for only 90 days. It never worked that well to begin with, some DVD wouldn't work on it, although they worked fine on other players.

  3. Had this setup for a year or so. The sound or audio quality is certainly not going to be mistaken for a "serious" home theater system made of seperate components, but that ought to be obvious from the price tag. It's more than adequate for a starter system, an apartment, or for a bedroom. The volume control at about the 40 setting is enough to start making the neighbors complain, which is good since much higher and the sound starts distorting a bit. The player itself seems of reasonable build quality and I experienced no issues with the player whatsoever during the time I owned it, the speakers and subwoofer seem a bit cheap but they work fine. Setup is pretty easy as the wires have colored plug connectors on one end, just match like colors. Of course the downside to this is that you have to use the lousy speaker wire that comes in the box, since if you bring your own high-gauge wire you won't have the plug to connect it to the player. But of course if you're buying this unit you're likely not going to be out buying expensive Monster Cable for it ;)

All in all, it's does a pretty decent job of what it's intended for, namely being a cheap solution for those with modest needs. It's not going to give you sound quality that would make Mozart weep. But if you're looking for something to get your feet wet in the home theater world without breaking the bank, or want a second or backup system for another room, then it's not a bad choice.

  4. Everything seems ok about this, but I cant hear the voice channel very well. I pretty much have to turn it up to 35-40 to be able to hear much voice durring a movie... If I could fix that I'd be plenty happy.

  5. Works ok with some DVDs. The only reason I bought was for the radio included in but it was not worth the trouble. In 12 months it has spent atleast 2 months getting fixed. The DVD doesnt open and they dont know whats the fix for it. Said they added some lubricant to open but it failed again. Then they changed the laser head dont know why but even that doesnt seem to help
