5 comments about Monster iFreePlay Cordless Headphones for iPod shuffle.
  1. I have always had issues trying to work out at the gym with cords and where to put my shuffle. This product answered both issues and then some. It is lightweight enough even with the shuffle in place that you barely notice it and the comfort on my ears is wonderful. This is definitely a "must have" if you use the shuffle.

  2. Work great, quite comfortable over the long haul. Only complaint us that when running and wearing sunglasses the headphones "bump" the sunglasses frame. A little distracting but livable.

  3. love this thing. light, wireless, cheap and sturdy. my earphones sound fine in wind and with street noise. I highly recommend this to the person that likes music on the go but irritated by wires.

  4. I've been a great fan of Monster especially after going through I don't know how many IPOD transmitters for the car until finally coming across the Monster ICARPLAY which worked brilliantly. So with having that experience I was willing to try another Monster product and I was not disappointed. I've only used the wireless headphones for the iPod shuffle while working out on the elliptical. Its very light weight and I never have felt it strain my ears or feel like it wants to fall off. As far as the sound quality to me I couldn't tell a difference, they sound great. I haven't gone running with them yet so I'm not sure if they will stay on as well as they do on the stationary stuff.

  5. These headphones are OK but not for me. Just don't understand what the point is. I got them as a gift which was a nice thought but don't like them. Sound is good, but I'll stick with my shuffle stuck to shirt and small ear buds running up to my neck rather than this bulky ear muff thing.

5 comments about Rayovac Alkaline Batteries, D Size, 12-Count Packages (Pack of 2).
  1. This is the 3rd or 4th time I have bought this type of batteries and I am always satisfied with their performance. They are a great value.

  2. What a deal!! Try finding these batteries for this price in the stores...won't happen! Haven't actually tested their life span but for the price it's worth checking out.

Got these for my i-touchless trash can!!

  3. Since I'm saving these for a hurricane I can't vouch for how long these batteries last. But they did come with a December 2014 expiration date, which is very good for a May 2007 purchase and better than what I see in the stores for major brands.

  4. I purchased these for a baby bouncer that has a vibration function and an aquarium styled dispalay with bubbles and music. 3 batteries that drive vibration function died pretty quickly after ~3 weeks of very light use; however, the one that drives display and music still provides power. I do not know how long of a battery life I should expect when used in this type of device, but as my previous experience with D batteries in a portable stereo tells me, they do not last vey long. Therefore, I give these batteries 4 stars as they lived up to, but not surpassed my expectations.

  5. These batteries perform just as well as comparable "D" batteries that cost more. I would recommend them as a lower cost alternative to Energizer or Duracell brands.

  1. I love my ipod, but the earphones are just plain uncomfortable to stuff into my ears. This problem was solved instantly with my new BudFits! Amazingly simple in concept, yet incredibly effective in design and use. Now, I can enjoy the great sound my ipod offers while gardening, working out, or kayaking without the slightest worry about the ear buds falling out. Like most highly successful inventions, this is the kind of innovation that you'll wonder why no one has thought of it before. It makes perfect sense and I don't plan on using my ipod again without BudFits! Thanks to whoever designed these---you must be a genius!

  2. I am so thrilled that I can finally use my iPod earbuds without having them continuously fall out. BudFits are super easy to use and very comfortable. These are a great product that I strongly recommend. Get them for yourself and as a gift for anyone you know with an iPod--they'll really thank you for it!

  3. I love my Ipod, but the standard Ipod phones would never stay in my ear. I found Budfits at a bike store and they are great. I can now use the Ipod phones anywhere. I use the Budfits when biking, at work, and just about anywhere.

  4. BitFits are awsome! My iPod ear buds have never stayed in my ears, so I have never been able to use them. With BudFits my, ear buds stay put and without sacrificing any sound quality. I can run listening to my favorite music and not be bothered with ear buds that fall out. What a great product!

  5. These buds are great. Apple should buy them out and package them with every iPod, iPhone and earbuds they sell.

  1. The JVC MiniDV 10 pack of tapes were a great value. Each tape is about 60 minutes and we have used several taping our children and home. I would definitely recommend this product.

  2. Item was delivered on time. Brand new. Individual tapes not in a 10 pack.

  3. This is a great product for your digital camcorder and also at a great price.

  4. At $20 for 10, it's the best deal I can find. It works fine with my panasonic camcorder.

  5. These mini DV tapes are the best and cheapest I could find. I use them with my HD Canon camcorder and the quality is stunning! I get about 1 hour of HD footage per tape.

5 comments about JVC HANC100 Noise Cancelling Headphones.
  1. As someone else has said, the only drawback are the small cups or pads that don't go "around" your ear. I'm guessing that it is designed for size as well as comfort. These have been amazing on many Overseas trips that I have taken and going from Madrid to Vienna often.

Unless you see something else that must be better, this one is a good bet.

  2. I purchased the JVC HANC100 noise cancelling headphones primarily to use on airplane flights, mostly 4-6 hr domestic flights I take for business trips. After having used them on a couple of flights now, my overall opinion of the headphones is fairly positive.
Positives: Noise cancellation functions works pretty well, making listening to music or watching DVDs much more enjoyable. I can have the volume at about half what I woould use without the noise cancelling function.
Negatives: The noise cancelling function has definite frequency ranges it is better/worse at cancelling. It seemed to do the best with airplane engine noise when I was slightly behind wing mounted engines, rather than the frequency of noise forward of the engines.
The headphones are over-the-ear style with a small earcup. You may find the earcup cushion pushes on your ear and after 2-3 hours it can become uncomfortable.
Things to know: The headphone strap that goes over your head seems to be sized for a larger sized head.

  3. Got these while searching for work, via planes trains and other trains. They work fine to take the worst part out of plane travel and louder subways. While on one flight I borrowed somone's BOSE headphones for a moment and the noise cancelling was a bit better. But not $300 better. I keep meaning to take these to a BOSE store and compare them. They have a great noise simulator there to show off their gadget.

I really like the retactable cord and I'm careful to hold the wire back while it gets snapped up. If you allow the spring to yank it at maximum speed it will wear out eventually. Not having to manage the wire like all those other folks is a real bonus.

And though I don't care for how they look on my head as I'm walking around, I am always suprised at how small a pants pocket they will fit into (one can at a time).

  4. Works great but not nearly as good as the BOSE quality one, but I guess you get what you pay for. Blocks out the very loud noise but not to the mute level.

  5. These headphones produce not bad sound quality, but they are not comfortable to wear for more than 30 minutes.
Noise canceling works only for low frequencies and in the same time add some noise on high frequencies (i.e. in a quiet room I hear more noise when noise canceling turned on)

3 comments about Logic 3 IP104 Travel Speaker Set for iPod and iPhone (Black).
  1. I am very pleased with this item! For the past six months I've been looking for speakers that sound good with my iPhone -- most speakers require you to put your iPhone in Airplane mode in order to eliminate the TDMA noise, which is that horrible sound of interference that occurs whenever a call or email comes in. Up until now, the only speakers that I've found that would do the job are the ones that retail for about $200 in the Apple store. But these speakers work great, and are an awesome deal. I was concerned that the description indicates that they will "minimize" the TDMA noise, which makes it sound like perhaps the noise just won't be as loud. But I've not heard TDMA noise once since I got the speakers, which was about three weeks ago. Sound is loud and clear -- I've even been using them poolside, and we can hear the music across the pool without having to turn the volume up all the way. I hope they come back in stock soon for all of you other iPhone freaks like me, who want quality speakers to go with their phones.

  2. Very good sound! I was looking for somthing to see and hear my videos for a while and I finally found it.

  3. This is ok, but... I will keep the box worried I may return it.
Actually, I have used it for several days and enjoyed watching movies from iphone on it, and if you dont' mind something that will probably not last, this is ok. However, I don't feel the quality is worth the price. This has battery covers with very thin plastic which are easily breakable, the power plug is nothing but brittle tiny wire that feels like it could snap, the speakers ok, but actually I'm dissapointed because they are not really quality, and very small. In other words, I think I would opt to return it, but probably won't. Its usable, but I highly doubt it will last long, so it makes it hard for me to recommend it to others. You could find something better for the money.

5 comments about Shure SE530 Sound Isolating Earphones.
  1. I would not call myself a serious audiophile, but I have a couple of pretty nice systems (Naim/Rega and McCormack/Magnaplanar) and a pair of Grado SR325 headphones. I got the Shure SE530's mainly for travel (airplanes and airports) and for other situations when noise cancellation is useful. They are very impressive. Easily driven by the iPod - no amplifier needed. Comfortable in the ear. Excellent (near complete) isolation from exterior sounds. They are not good for running unless you find a way to clip or secure the cord to your collar. Activities that involve excessive movement of the earphone cord can cause vibration sound that travels right up into your ears!

I would describe them as dynamic - very smooth midrange and somewhat umphy low end and very precise if not forward high end. They can't compare with the warm low end and engaging quality of the Grados, but they do reveal more detail whereas the Grado's bloomy bottom end does slightly mask some of the mid and upper range. It is funny after 5 minutes into a listening session with the Grados I like them the best and then likewise when wearing the Shures. Each one is different but each is good enough to reveal limitations with your source equipment. For in-ear phones, the sound are not fatiguing - pretty flawless overall. Very happy with the purchase.

  2. these little earphones are amazing! i use the foam inserts and take the time to 'install' them properly. once they are properly placed in the outer ear canal and given time to 'seal', the sound is incredible! they are well worth the $$, and also protect your hearing by blocking out external noise so that you can enjoy the full sound of the music without blasting your eardrums.

  3. I started looking for an exceptional pair headphones after purchasing a new itouch and assumed over the ear noise canceling full size headphones would be the best option. I tried model from both Sony and Bose and found them to be adequate but rather flat sounding and difficult to travel with. I then decided to try in-ear sound isolating models based on feedback from experienced users. I have now had the opportunity to test 3 different in-ear type headphones. The Shure SE530, SE310 and Sony MDR-EX700LP.

In order to get right to the point, I won't waste too much time talking about the SE310's. For the money, they just don't stack up well against the other two models for full bandwidth sound reproduction. For $300 bucks you have the right to expect the type of performance that brings a tear to your eye. Needless to say this does not happen. Spend $50 - $100 and you will be much happier.

The Shure SE530's purchased from Amazon arrived on time and beautifully packaged in an aluminum cube. Well done and a very nice marketing job of creating an out of box experience better than any other headphone brand. I have to admit, I was expecting that type of presentation for $449.99 so my expectations were met. Overall build quality is mixed. The drivers are plastic and oddly shaped with obvious seams in the plastic where the 2 halves are joined. The Shure logo as well as the "L" and "R" are paint screened on and looks cheap. The cord is heavy duty and I love the around the ear cord design. It adds a secure fit and discreet look that works great on the plane. Sound quality is very good and extremely accurate. It was the first in-ear model I tested that actually produced bass frequencies below 50hz. The highs are good with a slight bit of roll off at the very high end which has a dampening effect on cymbals. Soundstage is deep and tonal quality very accurate. Fit is good and Shure's sound isolating claims are real. They do work better than noise canceling for airplanes and public places.
    So here is the grading: Presentation = A, Fit = B+, Build Quality = B, Sound Quality = A, Value = D
OVERALL GRADE is a C+ because the sound quality and build quality does not justify the price. If you are a pro athlete or CEO and want the exclusivity, have at it.

Next I tried the Sony MDREX700LP from Sony Style after a friend told me about them. I would not have figured Sony would have a model to compete with a boutique type manufacturer - but they do. I was unable to find them anywhere but [...] so maybe they are new. Price is $299.99 and they also come with an interesting case. Different from the Shure models that come with an oval zippered semi-hard nylon clam shell, the Sony uses a real leather jackknife type case that allows you to wind your cord. Also, unlike the SE530 that uses 3 distinct drivers, the Sony uses a single 16mm driver that they claim has a multilayer diaphragm. Regardless, it sounds great. Out of box was surprising mediocre given the $300 price and I would have expected this to be Sony's strong suit. Typical cardboard box with anonymous packaging. A customer would have no idea they were buying a product of this calibre. Build quality was again mixed. Driver units were nicely finished but the cord was very thin (presumably to reduce weight since these headphones will dangle directly from your ear). As with the SE530's, Bass was awesome. Test tracks using a 20Hz note gave me a big smile. Good for bass heads. Sound quality was excellent with both high and low frequencies extending better than the SE530's but with a slightly more colored sound. Where the SE530's reproduced sound clinically, the Sony's seemed to have a bit more attack. They sounded slightly more forward with a bit better detail and more spacing. To be fair, this is crazy nit picking based on hours of technical listening. The extra detail of the sony's can really expose bad MP3 players and poor recordings, especially in the higher frequencies. Fit was good and while a bit more comfortable than the Shure's, I prefer the SE530's wrap around the ear and slightly better sound isolation when using the foam inserts.
    Grading: Presentation = B-, Fit = B, Build Quality = B+, Sound Quality = A, Value = A
Overall Grade is an A- due to the value. You can't find headphones this good for this price.

Final note- Efficiency is very important in headphones being used with MP3 players. Particularly APPLE models due to their mediocre battery life and low output. Compared to over the ear models, both of these were superb. Much lower volume levels are required than with any other headphone I've tried (and I've tried many). The SE530's did have a slight edge in efficiency but I found that to be irrelevant since they were both so good.

  4. The sound on the Shure 530 earbuds is very good, but the wires are very bad, especially for the price. After less than 10 months the wires became stiff, even a little brittle. After 11 months the connections at the earbuds and wires became frayed, even without mistreatment. I would not buy these earbuds again. Very disappointing, given what I paid for them.

  5. The top 2 models of SHURE earphones SE420 and SE530 are meant for those who want to fully appreciate music from their MP3s, and are willing to pay quite a bit extra for that quality. What are the major differences? To me, the 530s mid-highs are much more detailed without being tinny, base is not boomy but "tight" - meaning the start and stop of drums etc are much better controlled to give you more slam. The 420s are superb earphones in their own right, that is until you hear the 530s. With the 530s the same music sounds much more 3-dimensional, natural and warm. I hear so much more detail that were not quite as evident before. The difference is not subtle and I found I did not have to switch back and forth between the 2 earphones. 3 tips when testing: 1. always use the same MP3 player and the same track (it helps to compare apple with apple (no pun intended!)) 2. make sure the demo earphones have been run in (used) for at least 12 hours otherwise they do not sound great straight out of the box and will sound quite shrill and thin 3. make sure the earpieces fit snugly into your ears or the bass will sound weak. Whether it's worth paying that much more is up to you. For me the difference was too big not to go for the 530s. If you use your MP3 every day and love your audio, then the 530s should be a no brainer.

5 comments about Monster Cable THX-Certified Fiber Optic Digital Interconnect Cable (4 Feet).
  1. This deliver clear sound, especially if you have the logitech z5500 5.1 surround sound :D. They should go hand in hand!

  2. While I don't buy into the marketing hype that is associated with high-end cables, I do believe in buying decent cables that have decent connectors. On the flip-side, I also don't believe in buying the lowest-priced stuff, thinking that "digital is digital" and nothing can impact the quality of a digital signal.

There are differences in cables in their construction and in the connectors used. I've pulled RCA audio cables right out of their cheap connectors simply because the gauge of wire and the strain relief on the connector used wasn't strong enough to handle the strain of inserting and removing the cable more than a few times.

Monster has become the whipping-boy of those who would rail against over-priced cables, so some would dismiss this cable just because of that. Admittedly, I find no reason to pay $100 for a 2M cable of any variety, so Monster must assume some responsibility for how it markets such high priced products.

However, Monster also makes decently-constructed and decently-priced products that don't cost a lot of money, but perform the way you expect a decent cable to perform. The key is to find these products and stay away from the hypo-allergenic, oxygen-free, temperature-compensated high end stuff that does more to separate you from your money than to deliver real-world performance.

That's where cables like these fall. It's a basic, short optical cable that just needs to stay in the connector on each end and deliver the digital signal from one end to the other reliably.

When you insert the connector, it provides that satisfying click that tells you it's inserted, and it won't fall out on its own. While I don't have the equipment to judge the quality of the digital audio signal going in vs. coming out, I have confidence in Monster not to use materials that would cause such problems (yes, optical fiber can and does leak light into its surrounding material, which can diminish the amount of signal that makes it to the other end, and can diffuse the light, which can cause errors in the data), and I've never experienced any problems with the lower-end Monster cables I've purchased over the years.

While it may be tempting to go for the $1.49 optical cable instead of something like this, I don't think that $20 is too much to pay for something that is going to work, and something that will last without trouble down the line. Don't overpay, but don't be cheap, either.

  3. The product arrived quickly and I have had no problems. Price was good too.

  4. Great quality and does a great job. Some people may say a cable is a cable, but for at price it's very competitive as compared to other generic brands. Would I recomend this cable? Absolutely!!!

  5. I purchased three of these cables to replace the digital optical cheap cables I bought at Walmart years ago. I noticed a very big improvement in the sound quality compared to what I had been using. I'm very satisfied.

5 comments about Ridata Mini DVD-R 4X Media (50 pack).
  1. I've been using the Ridata brand of mini-DVD in my camcorder for nearly 3 years now, usually buying them 10 at a time. This time I bought the 50-pack since I've never had a problem with them. The first ones I've tried out of these appear to be unbalanced or out-of-round, though. My camcorder definitely vibrates more when the disks are up-to-speed. I have finished recording on one of them and it appeared to finalize okay. I'm just disappointed with Ritek's quality control system that would let these get out the door.

  2. This is my second spindle batch. Had only one issue with one DVD. I was recording my daughter birthday. But when I went to play it, it said bad data. I don't know if it was the Hitachi DVD camcorder or the DVD itself. I bought a Sony DVD camcorder and so far no issues. I will keep you posted if any other issues arises. One thing for sure is that you can't beat the price of these mini DVDs. Excellent price.

  3. Just bought a 50 pack of the Ridata mini dvd-r 4x, for my Sony Handicam. Very noticeable vibration with these disks, compared to a sony or fuji disk. I wonder if the disk is thinner or isn't as rigid as the other ones. Possibly out of round, but vusually can't tell. I tested one and it recorded fine and playback was normal on the computer, but for some reason a 2 minute video clip took 8 minutes to finalize, 2-3 times longer than other full 4x disks I've used. Vibration can't be good for the camcorder so I'm worried.

  4. I have used a little over half of the disks. One was bad and would not record. I use a Sony DCR-DVD108. These disk have to same issue as the Memorex I have used in the past which was a slight vibration when in use. They are not balanced correctly but are usabale and very economical.

  5. There is a Definite Vibration while using these discs!!! I am like another reviewer and am worried about what is going to happen to my camera, if i continue to use these discs. I will be contacting the seller for a refund/return. The ONLY plus I give these is that you DO NOT have to Format the disc before using it, unlike many other NON Sony discs, on my Sony DVD308.
