5 comments about Koss UR-20 Home Headphones.
  1. To emphasize a couple of points made on other reviews. 1) These are fairly comfortable, passively block noise pretty well, and sound quite good. 2) they look and feel like inexpensive headphones, not bad, but no better than the $35 they cost. 3) I thought the detachable cable would have a standard 1/8" connector, but it is actually a phone jack connector on the headphone side, not very robust. 4) The impedance on the Koss website says 60 ohms, but on the actual package it says 112 ohms. 5) The wire from one side to the other is under the band, i.e. against your scalp, so if you are bald like me you have a soft, lightly padded band with a wire bump against the top of your head - its not terrible, just not ideal. Overall, these are acceptable given the price.

  2. I bought this exact model of headphone from Amazon on July 14, 2005. (At least that's the date Amazon says I bought it on.) They lasted me 3 years before they became unusable from wear-and-tear. And when I say wear-and-tear, I mean a 3-year beating.

I used it between my computer and my stereo system the whole time on a near daily basis of changing between the two. The plug withstood it all. I've yanked the cord (which is about 8-feet long), dropped the headset, tossed the headset while plugged in, crushed the headset under everything from books to a computer (long story on that one), and on more occasions than I can count, fallen asleep and rolled on top of them. They took all the punishment and kept going.

The worst damage that occured was that a piece of the plastic over the Logo oval and below the slider stop on the earpiece (you can see it in the picture) on the inside of the headband broke off after 2 years of me overstretching the headset, and that was easily resolved by replacing the plastic piece that broke off back in place and wrapping the area with some black electrical tape.

The sound quality is exceptional. You can hear the highs and lows of every note in a song and clearly understand every part of a conversation in a game or video. And once they are on your head, outside sounds are gone. Someone could crash their car into your house and you wouldn't hear it.

It finally broke after the wiring in the right earpiece couldn't take my abuse anymore, and even then I was able to get it to work on-and-off for a month after that before it finally said no more.

It survived all that and I only paid $25 for it. All in all this headphone is tank-like in the long run. I'm planning to buy two more. It's a great headset and worth every cent considering how long it lasts.

  3. I have had these headphones for about 7 years now. I have been very rough with them at times. They have been dropped, stepped on, and otherwise crushed. One side where you adjust the fit cracked years ago and is now held very securely together by about half a roll of electrical tape. The fabric which rests upon the user's head frayed, and I had to MacGyver scrap fabric (from an inferior, broken pair of headphones) over the affected area. The material around the cushion is disintegrating, as is the foam pad between the speakers and the user's ears.
Yet despite all this, I am proud to say that they still sound as good as the day I bought them. These things last forever - It never ceases to amaze me. Well done, Koss. Well done.

  4. Just got mine a few days ago and I must say that I am very impressed!!! The sound quality is phenomenal, they fit securely( but not too tight around the head), the ear pieces completly cover my ear and while not noise canceling they do block a lot of the outside noise. The sound is amazing!! The bass is nice and deep with no distortion noticed. My only concern is the plastic adjustable frame which the head phones are encased. From what I have read these have a tendency to crack or break. This would be a concern if the headphones were in the higher price range, but since they are under 20.00 if this does happen I can replace them ( or duct tape them) without too much cost. Excellent sound quality for a very reasonable price. Much better sound quality than my sony headphones which I paid twice as much for.

  5. DJ quality and they fit my big head. Ten stars would be more like it.

5 comments about Monster AI ITV IP-10 iTV Link for iPod (10 feet).
  1. This is a nice cable put together, unfortunately the Monster cable does not announce that this cable does not work with the new foramtted ipods by apple. Apparently Apple changed the video output on these devices that only is supported by the cable through Apple. You will get audio perfeclty but no matter how smart you are in setting up electronic devices, no video will ever show up. So sad that we get ripped off by these companies and they do not even help you over the phone and no customer service to assist you. Shame on them for doing business in this great country of ours. WE need better guidelines from their manufacturers announcing the line of their products, what it will work with, how it works and what to do if it does not work. No matter what the advertisment says DO NOT BUY THIS CABLE.

  2. Monster cable has a very good reputation & previous products I have used were excellent. However, this cord will NOT work with my 3 month old Nano 3G. I followed all instructions on the Ipod & cord to a tee & could never get the cord to work. I finally returned it to AMAZON.com (with very little hassle & excellent service!)& ended up buying the APPLE version (twice the cost, of course)& it worked like a charm. I believe APPLE'S proprietary stance is the main reason the MONSTER cable would not work. Unfortunate, because the monster utilizes a superior S-Video connection, whereas the APPLE is only either rca connectors or component.

  3. The seller was great and it shipped fast. However, when I got home and tried to plug my Ipod into my TV input, the video never came up. When I looked at the product, the male end of the S-Video cable output had already broken. I eventually bought a different brand from a local store and it works fine. I do not recommend this product.

  4. These cables are not compatible with the iPod Classic 80G model. I tried Monster for help, but they did not reply. Neither Amazon nor Monster note this compatibility problem. Shame on them. See the other reviews saying the same thing before you buy.

  5. I recommend you buy your cable from PocketFish. At least you won't be disapointed with fact it will not work with your Classic Series IPOD.

It also works with the newest 120GB Classic. I gave it two stars because the audio works.

5 comments about URC Professional Line MX-900 - Universal remote control - infrared/radio.
  1. OVERVIEW: A compact, very well thought out remote, offering more than enough features and versatility than the majority of home uses are likely to ever need. It defaults to IR mode, and can be switched to RF.

If you're a technophobe, want things straight and simple, and expect them to work hassle free right out of the box, then it's probably best you look at other remotes.

Should you be more technologically savvy and don't mind some trial and error and desire a high level of customization jump right in. This remote gets better the more you know what you want and the more you know your equipment.

    So to begin, my setup:
*60" HD Sony XBR with 7 video inputs.
*Motorola Digital cable box with HD recording feature.
*Hamon/kardon receiver used for audio input (not video ) switching, and FM radio.
    *Dennon DVD for NTSC.
*Phillips DVD for PAL DVDs and other video formats.
    *CD player.
    *Game console.

***NOTE**** You MUST connect the remote to a PC/Laptop PHYSICALLY located in the same room as your components***************
You certainly can program it in a different room, but you'll have to run back and forth to test any changes.

First, download the software (MX-900 Editor) from the manufacturer website after simple registration. The serial # is a bit tricky to find inside the battery compartment. You connect the remote to the PC via the included USB cable.

Now the fun begins (it sounds more complicated than it is): Almost any button is programmable and assignable to do whatever function you want. The included templates seemed thorough to me; (there was even one for my rather obscure Harmon/kardon.) So you scroll through the templates, find your match. If your specific model is missing in their database then try some of the plentiful generic templates for that brand. Once loaded, you can judge for yourself if you like the default button assignments for that particular component.

Programming the remote is a visual process. An interactive and exact image of the remote is placed in the center of the MX-900 Editor. The right pane lists all possible functions of your component template. You simply click on the button you want to edit, then drag a specific function onto that button and it's done. You can test any settings you've made directly from the Editor before you load it to the remote.

The screen itself is rather small, so you must scroll through different pages to see all the functions for any specific component. For each page there are six buttons on the right of the screen. The good news is that you can change the order of functions as they are listed on any page, so on the first screen page I have only my most used functions listed the way I want. Rarely used functions are set farther down.

Most of the buttons below the screen (VOL, GUIDE, MENUE, EXIT, etc) can also be programmed to do different things for each device.

    Best to give EXAMPLES :

One button turns everything ON. The TV defaults to the CABLE BOX input, the RECEIVER switches to the CABLE BOX audio outs, the CABLE BOX turns on a specific channel!
The remote itself defaults to the CABLE page with the most used functions for the CABLE box right there.

Next I want to watch a DVD. I programmed a single button to 1) Change the TV input to DVD 2) Switch the RECEIVER channel 3) Automatically open the DVD tray. 4) The remote defaults to the specific DVD player mode.

I've set it up so that no matter what "page" the remote is on, the VOLUME and MUTE buttons stay assigned to the RECEIVER. This way I don't need to toggle or press other buttons just to get to the audio section.

The above are accomplished via Macros, meaning that several distinct functions from different components are all assigned in sequence to one single button.

And so on. An ALL OFF button does what it says. I've had no problems with any component not receiving the IR signal as I did with the Comcast remote.

QUALITY: Feels sturdy and solid in the hand, with good quality plastic casing. Haven't dropped it yet. The numbers buttons at the end are too small and almost impossible to use with one hand. So it's a bit too long for me. Nice blue backlight. Oh, and you can program how long the light stays on.

SERVICE: The template for my Sony TV was missing the VIDEO 7 (digital) input which I needed. I called Universal and was told that all the included templates are provided from the manufacturers. They did however have a fix and updated template for my model which was emailed to me within an hour.

ADDENDUM: Purchased this few weeks back for $224 through an Amazon seller

  2. I purchaed this remote in August 2007. I installed the software and did a live update all was fine. In October 2007 after purchasing some new equipment I did the live update and got a message saying URC was no longer supporting this software. How can this be. URC stated when I called them that if I purchased it from and Authorized Dealer to contact them to get the updates. Well I did and Amazon sent me to 6th Ave and 6th Ave sent me to URC.

Why? Well they will only let PRO Installers have the updates what am I going to hurt myself?

I feel that AMAZON and 6TH AVE should not be selling these unless they inform the customer up front that they are purchasing an expensive piece of soon to be obsolete equipment seeing as you can not get updates.

I guess I should have checked on the live update before the thirty day return policy expired.

  3. First off, all you have to do is register the remote at the website. You can then download the software. And URC stated that while they figure out the best way to provide the "live update" feature, they temporarily disabled it. But if you periodically register it, you can grab the later IR databases. Not a huge deal.

This remote did what no other programmable remotes have been able to do. It actually got rid of my other remotes! The Macro ability is FANTASTIC. I have mine, a) turn on the Marantz AVR b) turn on the TV c) turn on the cable box, and set the right input on the TV. I've tweaked my macros from time to time to make it as easy as possible for my wife. My 4 year old son knows how to turn every thing on now!

This is a fantastic remote. I have Harmony 890 and I can't stand the button layout on the Harmony. It's so hard to push the little buttons on the Harmony. It's annoying! MX900 *FEELS GOOD* in your hand. It has the right heft, feels rock solid, and the buttons have a great feel.

  4. I have been drooling over this remote for sometime based on every review i have read on the net, and there have been plenty.

First of all, I didn't buy it on Amazon, so that will clear the air for my story. I first bought one on the net, and it never shipped. I then purchased one from a seller who purchased bulk from a major department electronics store and it looked brand new with all the tags and stickers still on it, but it arrived DOA..sheesh...it appeared that my dream remote would never happen. The seller told me to return it for a refund but they stated they did not have anymore in stock.

I decided to call Universal Remote at the main office and explained my story to them. I fully expected them to say sorry you should just return it to the retailer where you purchased it...but instead, they told me to ship it to them (universal) instead.

Within a week a brand spanking new one arrived in the mail. I immediately took it out of the box but not sure if I understood the way it worked, so I called Universal for some tips and with no waiting on the phone, their wonderful technical department gave me a couple tips and within minutes my remote was fully operational, with all electronic equipment I wish to install on the remote. The nice serivce rep also told me to email them my configuaration which was very easy to do and he made a few adjusments and emailed me back within a couple hrs (he said he had to go to lunch, otherwise he said it would have been sooner). I felt I really didn't need the added macros, but it was nice of him. Oh..yes, this remote control is everything it is professed to be. Super solid quality and works flawlessly. I have dumped the 5 remotes I was using for one super convenient, good looking and quality remote control. Dare say, as you can guess I highly reccomend this remote to anyone looking for something better and never have to worry about buyers remorse for paying a bit more.

I was slightly intimidated by the setup at first glance, but I think that seed was planted by the audio visual industry online comments. It was so much easier to setup and has lots of room for growth with your system. I do believe this is the last remote I will ever buy, and that is saying a lot. Sorry if I seem over enthusiastic with this remote, but as you can see I am pleased as all heck with this buy. The company customer service...absolutely the best I have ever experienced and a fantastic remote. I would give this 100 stars if the Amazon rating sytem allowed it, and thanks for letting me share my wonderful experience :-)

  5. As a long-time user of the MX-500, this is a superb replacement and has all the technology and features to make a complex system easy to use (says my wife.) It's ergonomically friendly, the price is right (and great service) from Electronics Expo via Amazon, the programming is very complete IF you are technically inclined. If you can't program devices easily on a PC, them maybe another remote is more sutable for you. I really like this one to properly control all the video and sound functions from 4 TiVo's, a Blu-ray, another DVD, and an HTPC. Just register the device to download the software and database of devices.

  1. product good quality works well. My only complaint is the price. purchased entire electronic disc repair machine for a few dollars more than the refill kit

  2. Cleans and repairs dvds with no problems. Instructions are easy to follow, process is simple.

  3. The Aleratec unit is a miracle worker. I have repaired CDs, both audio books & music. It took the discs from unplayable to like new. I have not tried DVDs, but if it works as well as it did on the CDs - then it will be perfect. A must for any home.

  1. These Memorex DVD-R 16x media just didn't work with my CD burner.
    It's a Lacie d2 DVD+RW/DVD-RW DL USB2/FireWire. Internal drive is NEC DVD-RW ND-3520A Firmware 1.04 / MMC-3. Using Roxio Toast 6 and 8 on Mac OS X 10.4.8.

  2. I have a new imac 5 intel that can't read the memorex dvd...my older imac 4 also can't read it...don't waste your money trying.

  3. I have had no success using Memorex DVD-R disks for backup with my iMac G4, nor with a new MacBook Pro. They simply do not work. Nor will Memorex CD-R disks work with my Sony CD player/recorder.
    Charles Hans Winecoff

  4. My Apple iMac won't read these disks, and I see I'm not the only one having this problem. Very disappointing.

  5. It works in any machine I throw it in. Never had a problem or coaster. Great in my past & present stand alone recorders: Sony, Samsung, Ampex, Apex, Lite-on & Phillips.

Works in all my PCs, XP, Win98se & Linux. Good in my Plextor, Phillips, Sony, Acer, & HP drives too.

    And the price is right.

Perhaps all these bad reviews from Mac users have something to do with their draconian DRM & not the disks. Or maybe you should be using a normal DVD drive like everybody else does.

I had a big fire at home last spring. Most of my disks were exposed to extreme heat, & later submerged under feet of dirty water for days. After cleaning well over 1,000 of them up, ALL the Memorex DVDs & CDs still played fine. All the blank disks still recorded too. Most of the other disks made by other brands did not work anymore.

I'm sold on memorex disks for durabilty, & reliability now.

  1. Quality, reliable product. A bit pricey but quality shines through. Fortunately the Japanese and Germans still value customer service and satisfaction - a rare commodity to find these days in a nation of arbitrageurs.

  2. Got this kit to wall-mount a Yamaha YSP-900 sound bar. Our installer had it up and mounted with no fuss. Very solidly built, and reassuringly solid metal mounting plates for the base and the speaker.
Order arrived quickly and in good shape. We'd use this vendor again.

5 comments about Magnavox M61151 4 X 1 Video Selector/Rf Modulator.
  1. This is the only modulator I ever had, don't have much to compare. Also, all I have plugged in to my old TV is Cable and a basic DVD player, both of which now go through this device. So far, it works just fine: when I turn on the DVD player, the modulator turns on automatically, and the TV recognizes the DVD player; when I turn it off, it goes back to cable. This is exactly what I needed; can't ask for more.

  2. Be advised that the Dimensions Given are Incorrect.

    Amazon says:
    "...Product Dimensions: 25 x 12 x 7 inches ; 2.4 pounds.."

    By my measurement:
    9.25" X 5.0" (add .5 for rear jacks) X 2.0" (add 1/8 for rubber feet).
Didn't weight it, but feels no more than a pound.

More than likely, the original specifications were in Centimeters
    rather than in Inches.

    I'm satisfied with my purchase,
but don't be misled by the incorrect size listing.

  3. This product is exactly what I was looking for to solve my cable problems. I have a smaller set up, not requiring a larger tuner hub. This did its job to make it easy to switch between all of my game and video systems. It even serves as a converter from S video to RF or component which is a nice feature.

  4. This little device is great. It is one of the few video selectors/rf modulators I have seen that can output to either RF or composite video. Video quality is good and doesn't seem to diminsh much (if it does at all) and the unit is well constructed with an all metal case. I recommend this to anyone who is looking for a good quality and reasonably priced video selector/rf modulator.

  5. Although this Rf modulator is not the best looking on the market, it has been a great purchase. For the price, I think that this product is the best out there. I would definately recommend this product to others who are looking for a simple, inexpensive, reliable Rf modulator.
