  1. _Beware_ of the vendor!
My order was canceled and they didn't bother to notify.
When I tried to check the status, I was told the manager canceled my order due to out-of-stock.
After 4 weeks later, I still have not received my refund.
Once again _Beware_ of the vendor!

  2. So far, seems compatible with both Windows Vista and Linux (OpenSuse 10.3 with updates)

I recently got an Acer 5720-4171 which came with an (AMBIT made) Atheros AR5BX63 card (I think it uses the 5007EG chipset). This card was not yet supported by the madwifi/Atheros driver project at the time for X86-64, and I wanted to dual boot with Linux (for me) and Vista (for the wife). I got this card, with expedited delivery so I could try it in the laptop's return period. PCUniverse dropped the ball on the initial order and unilaterally cancelled it, but a second attempt got me a quick delivery at a decent price from Amazon. The card installation was really pretty simple, the antenna conectors are marked main and aux on both cards, and although they happened to be the same positions on both the cards I used, I'm not sure if that is coincidence or if it is standard. Attaching the antena was not too difficult to remove or attach (the trick is to get them aligned properly, then they click into place). OpenSUSE 10.3's native support detected it in Yast, just be sure to add the repositories for the Intel Drivers, I needed newer ones than appear in the default repository set. I grabbed the most recent version of the IWL3945 drivers and it worked. and I was able to activate the card pretty quickly, I got a driver CD/DVD for windows Vista, but I don't think it is necessary, it looks like Vista picked it right up. So far I've avoided windows side driver upgrades, I'm not sure if I'll ever need/want them based on negative feedback in the forum, although I suspect newer Vista drivers may have better behavior based on the dates of the complaints I'm seeing on-line (most of them are about 6 months old or so at the time of writing).

  3. I am using it in Linux (Gutsy Gibbon with KDE desktop) and it works great. It stays connected to the net not like the new Ralink card that came with my laptop. It also worked with Vista on one boot, but I never tried it in Vista after that. Also I didn't even need the drivers cd that came with it. Total plug and play:) The two downsides are that you have to know how to install a new wireless card in your laptop(which can be easy or difficult depending on your machine) and the second one is that with about 30% signal strength it would eventually drop the network. Overall really great card, the driver problems seemed to have been overcome.

  4. HELLO I HAVE A DV6110US HP PAVILION NOTEBOOK I JUST WANT TO KNOW IF THIS CANT WORK PERFECT IN THIS NOTEBOOK WATH YOU RECOMENT TO ME TO DO

    I NEED A LOT OF HELP ...

    PLEASE LET ME KNOW SHORTLY

  5. I'm an Ubuntu user and was looking for a card that would "just work" when I installed. This looked promising for other Ubuntu users, but no where was it mentioned, except for the leaflet that came with the device that this card is designed only for Intel (specifically Centrino) processors. THIS WILL NOT WORK WITH AN AMD64 PROCESSOR! I'm sure this card is great, but when I put it in my laptop, a Dell Vostro 1000, it would not even boot. I ended up replacing the worthless Broadcom card that came with the laptop with a Atheros chipset based card using Madwifi drivers and it is working perfectly.

5 comments about Hauppauge 1128 WinTV-HVR-1800 Internal Hybrid TV Tuner/Video Recorder.
  1. If you use this product with Windows Media Center (WMC), there is a problem with the FM Radio Tuner. When you try to use the FM Radio, it may go into an infinite loop telling you that you must set up the TV signal in order to use the FM Radio. If you are using just an ATSC antenna, the TV setup will find the one antenna (ATSC) and FM Radio will still not work (and once again tell you go through the TV setup). You MUST lie to WMC, going through the manual antenna setup and tell it that you have BOTH an ATSC and an NTSC antenna. After doing so, the FM Radio will begin working. The downside is that when watching TV, you'll have the NTSC channels (analog static) in your listing. I need to try to figure out how to get rid of those. You still will have your ATSC channels, too.

The other downside is that the ATSC seems to only tune in the primary channel. For example, on my HDTV, I can tune to 11.1, 11.2, 11.3 (primary, weather, RetroTV Network, respectively). On this card the subchannels do not get tuned.

It seems to work reasonably well for what it does pick up, but if you're expecting to be able to get through setup without trouble, and tune to all of the available ATSC channels, you'll be disappointed.

  2. I finally decided to get this tuner because it uses PCI Express. The driver install went pretty good on Vista Home Premium, I had it search for drivers on the net. Vista MCE was able to find the tuner and was able to configure the channels, but MCE doesn't play QAM channels, you need third party software. The WinTV software that came with the product, just wouldn't install. I downloaded the newest version from mfg website, and it still wouldn't install properly. I finally downloaded a trial version of SageTV and that worked great, the downside is that it costs $80.

  3. I got it this past weekend.

    I have a Vista Ultimate x64 with SP1.

I put in the card and when I boot up, Vista sees it right away and know where to download the drivers.

Then I put in my Dishnetwork receiver(S-Video and 2 audio) into it see it on my computer. I think if you have Dish on, it will not pick up the digital signal.

I cant get it to change channel on my Dish. But its alright. I have Dish change the channel and the card just record whatever comes on.

Now I dont use my VCR anymore.

I do not install the WinTV. I heard this software had not been updated for years. And Beyond TV, etc cost too much. MSFT Media Center can record too. Thats all I need. I didnt play with the FM.

I might need to change the card time when I get HDTV thru Dish. It doesnt have component input on these.

I give it 4 Stars just because its not perfect.

  4. I first set this up with XP Media Center and had all kinds of trouble. The TV signal would cut in and out and pausing and rewinding was horrible. I then upgraded to Vista Ultimate and everything works perfectly now. The digital cable picture looks just as good as if it was connected straight from the set-top box to the tv. Pausing and rewinding works great. The remote is also very nice and worked perfectly.

  5. It's a very good tuner, worked as expected in Vista Ultimate 64bit, my only problem was I was unable to install Hauppauge's WinTv application under Vista 64bit. I could only us it with Vista Media Center. As everyone knows, Vista Media Center doesn't support Clear QAM broadcasts over cable, so I was hoping to at least watch them with WinTV's app, but it didn't install. Microsoft came out with an update though (Media Center TV Pack 2008), but it can only be installed with a new installation of Vista, however, it should only be a matter of time to allow it for everyone to install in their current installation of Vista.

Not being able to install wintv in 64bit vista is why I gave it a 4 star. They should make 64bit bit fully compatible as well.

  1. These looked like good headphones however I did not open them when they arrived as they were too big for what I needed them for. The picture is a little deceiving and I was not expecting them to be so big. The return was easy however and the refund from Amazon was easy and quick.

  2. The headband has no padding and after a few minutes of wearing, these headphones get very uncormfortable due to the hard plastic being in contact with the top of your head even if you move it forward or back. Unless you are sideshow bob, dont go near these!

  3. Had another pair of these headphones that I absolutely loved. These are just as good.

  4. I have used these particular phones before and they were excellent. The sound quality is excellent for such a low price

  5. Philips SHP2500/37 Full Size Headphone
Users say these are good headphones.
The ones I received did not work at all.
Tried them in several stereo, radio, even TV jacks....nope.
I had to go to radio shack and buy interface plugs.
    Overall...not so hot
But I would still like to know how well they work

5 comments about Tucano Red MB Sleeve Macbook 13.3".
  1. I had a gray sleeve for my iBook and it lasted for over 3 years. I was so impressed that I bought this Tucano sleeve for my MacBook. It works great and I have no complaints.

  2. There's not a great deal to say about this soft, red little folder who's only purpose is to hug your MacBook when you're not using it. In short, this thing works. It protects your MacBook from all the scratches that might be inflicted on it while in a backpack, and does so without complaining or ever putting up a fuss. On top of all of this, it manages to look, well, sexy. It's a fashionable cover for a fashionable machine, and is a great choice for all of your MacBook protection needs.

  3. Does a good job protecting my laptop, fits well in tote bag. No complaints so far.

I am not bothered by the lack of pocket for mouse or cord. The purpose of a laptop is to be portable. Get one with good battery life is what I suggest.

  4. I bought the sleeve for my MacBook, and it fits perfectly, kind of a sleek-looking thing. I needed something that protects the laptop from getting scratched when I put it in the carry-all with all my other electronic gadgetry, and it does that. BUT, I discovered Target has something similar (not in cool red) with a HANDLE and SIDE POCKET for $10 less.

  5. I'm really happy with this sleeve. Its simple and has a great inner flap that hugs the mac snugly to prevent it from shifting around. Also, the zipper feels like it is made really well and will hold up for quite some time. I think the color it great, too. It makes it hard to forget at the coffee shop or library.

1 comments about CD DVD White Paper Sleeves with Clear Window 100 Pack. Size: 12.7cm x 12.7cm.
  1. As the author of the Jefferson Airplane book "Take Me To A Circus Tent" and a former radio disc-jockey, I am often asked to write and or discuss various music supplies and recordings from the 60's and 70's.

100-Piece Paper CD Sleeve with Window

Those that have purchased this product or any other brand and experienced something odiferous have made valid points. In order to circumvent this situation if you are purchasing any of the CD sleeves in a store they usually will have a date the item was placed in inventory with the price.

If you are purchasing from an on-line vendor please don't hesitate to send them an email and see if they will be honest enough to let you know when the last shipment was received. I have used paper sleeves a plethora of times and have been able to get packages that have not been in storage long. An important additional detail with the discount brands to keep in mind. If the sleeves have aged they may have susceptibility to stick together.

The sleeves when new are very good and often sold at a terrific discount. You will want to make sure at all times the CD's are protected from light and dust.

The window style is perfect for easy viewing of the inside contents without having to remove the CD.

Enjoy the music and be well,
    Craig Fenton

  1. I tried these six times and every one was a coaster.

They played fine until it got near the layer switch. Then it started to freeze and pixelate.

I then purchased a spindle of Verbatim DVD+R DL 2.4 and each burn was perfect.

So these TDKs are definitely not compatible with my LG DVD Burner.

5 comments about Otterbox 913-01.4 iPod Classic Armor Case.
  1. Fits perfectly. Protects the iPod from moisture (sweat and pool water), dust, sand, dirt, being dropped, etc. Controls are easy to work through the membrane on the front of the case. If you are going to take this into the water, attach your water proof headphones so the open jack is not exposed, and take the closed, empty case in the water to make sure it is leak proof. Otter Box has a life time replacement warranty on the case, but not the contents. Not quite sure what the point is, but those are the rules. So test your case empty before putting your iPod in peril. I believe the depth rating of the case is 10 feet, so it's for surface swimming, not SCUBA diving. Also good for jet skiing. The Otter Box arm band is a very useful accessory by the way.

  2. the 2nd one I buy,
first one for me, this one's for my girlfriend
we are so happy with the cases, great product, no impact for ipod, no water inside the case, a little big, but why not, my ipod is expensive, why not to take good care of it.

  3. Very good product.
It's very resistant ...one day it fell down from a considerable height but neither broke nor had any scratch.I recommend it with total confidence =)

  4. Just received this case in today's mail. I have not actually used in the swimming pool yet - won't be able to until tomorrow - but I can say the case did GREAT in my "kitchen sink" test. I used cotton balls as filler for the case, sealed it up, and put it in a sinkful of water which I then weighted down with a pot lid. I left it there for about 1/2 hour and came back, opened up the case, and the cotton balls were as dry as when I put them in. Love it, love it! Now when I'm swimming my laps I can listen to all my tunes and create my own little world.

  5. The Otterbox 913-01.4 iPod Classic Armor Case works very well with my 80g iPod Classic. It fits well, the controls are accessible (though a bit cumbersome) and the case really is water resistant at depths less than three feet. Overall, this is a nice accessory if you use your iPod in wet, dirty or dusty environments. One caveat, consider using a partner other than ANT -- I had trouble with them regarding this item, but good old Amazon put things right with their A - Z guarantee. Save yourself the hassle.

5 comments about Griffin Tempo for Sansa - Armband for E200 series.
  1. This armband has turned out to be pretty good. I searched the internet for about an hour, because I wanted to make sure I picked an armband that would be compatible with my mp3 player. The reality is that it can work with an ipod, or mp3 that has a similar design an the one in the picture. I wear it in the gym throughout my workouts, and it works great for me.

  2. This arm band is great. Does not slide off my arm. The holdster is secure, and it has a plasic thing to hold the head phone wire

  3. A little pricey but you get what you pay for. Its heavy duty and holds my E280 in place whenever I go running or play basketball. It gets uncomfortable after an hour but that might just be me because I have skinny arms. Of course if you just wiggle it around once and a while, it feels better to have on for longer periods of time.

Good product for a Great MP3 Player!

  4. When I purchased this I was concerned with a previous comment that stated, that the arm band slipped down the guys arm. I just want to say that this is not an issue with anyone that has some definition. All you have to do is use the velcro and tighten the thing up. I don't have a problem with it slipping down at all. This is a good armband that gets the job done.

    The negatives-

    1. If velcro is not positioned right it will irritate the skin.
    Easy fix adjust the strap.

    2. Like a previous person stated the armband is positioned awkwardly so that potentially the mp3 player could slide out, but I tell ya this thing is in their and it has not slid out on me at all. I run with and lift weights and the mp3 player is in their snug. If it does bother then you then you can put the armband backwards.

    3. The headphone wire can be held back with an orange slide in piece of plastic. The wire is tough to get in, and it always slips out while I am working out. I think it is pretty useless for vigorous routines. Overall I am satisfied with this product and I would recommend.

  5. This armband is great. Fits nice and snug and no concern about coming off. I run the headphone wires up my shirt arm and out the neck so I don't worry about the wires getting in my way or getting snagged on anything. Works good for excercising and doing construction work! If you have an iPod you can find any accesory you want. But for this product, this is the best armband around.

  1. This transmitter works very well for my iPod Video with very little static through the radio. However, the volume is very low as compared with my cassette. I use this to keep my iPod charged in the car but still use the cassette with it so I can jam out. Overall it is a excellent product, but if your looking for sound quality, this won't cut it.

  2. I got this after my Monster transmitter started having some issues - probably due to cord damage. After some research, I bought this one since it also charges the iPod. It doesn't limit which stations you can choose, like some and I have no problem finding a good frequency. Only get static occasionally, which I've heard is a big problem in cities. I've only had it about a month, so I can't attest to its durability, but so far I am very happy with it - haven't had to charge my iPod inside for weeks!

5 comments about Sony VMC-30FS Long Length AV Cable with Special multi-RCA + S Terminal for most Sony MiniDV, DVD & HDD Camcorders (3 meters / 9.8 feet).
  1. I searched all over for this replacement jack for my camera. Excellent product and services that were rendered.

  2. Having the S-Video on the cable really does make a difference over the original that came with the camera. This is especially important when transferring recorded tapes to DVD.

  3. Very nice product, it gives you the RCA option & the S terminal for better quality.

  4. Hi quality, versatile. Because of S-video and RCA on the same end, I was able to connect the camera to 2 different devices simultaneously, which was very helpful in my particular situation. The 10 foot length is very nice also.

  5. Not much to say about a cable, but this one is well built and does the job well. If you need to hook your Sony camcorder to a television, this works.
