5 comments about Grado Prestige Series SR80 Stereo Headphone.
  1. When I pulled my new Grado SR-80s out of the box, and listened to them for the first time, they blew me away. I have now had them for a few days, and every time I listen to a new song in my itunes I hear it in a way that I never have before. I have not found them uncomfortable at all, and in fact, as I have broken them in, they have become more form fitting to my head.

  2. Most authentic and true sonic reproduction of any headphones under one-hundred dollars, bar none.

The listener who relishes details, depth, and even sound throughout all ranges, and who understands the concepts of subharmonics and harmonics in acoustical matters will appreciate these fine headphones.

They sound astonishing right out of the box, and as they break in, they sound even better.

Grado headphones are made with great care, and are of the highest quality. I strongly suggest them to any serious listener. You may find yourself using them more than the speakers of your stereo system, or the surround-sound speakers of your DVD/media center.

Yes, they are just that good.

  3. I've had these for over a year now, maybe two years. A couple months ago I started having problems with the left speaker going in and out. It got worse and worse and eventually was totally gone. I found that one of the two wires, the blue one, for the left side had broken under it's rubber insulation. I managed to fix it with a pocket knife, wire strippers and some electrical tape. I had to hack up the Y splitter thing and it looks like crap but they work again and sound as good as ever... So in conclusion, these headphones sound great but they're a little flimsy. They could be built better. They are comfortable though, they don't leave my head and ears sore like a lot of headphones.

  4. As soon as I opened the box, I new I would love these headphones. With their retro styling, they are quite the fashion statement, however, what really matters is how they function/perform, and they do so excellently. They are extremely comfortable (lightweight) and fatigue is not a problem as in other headphones. Even though they hardly feel like they're there, they stay put on my head quite well. The best part is obviously their fantastic sound clarity and bass response. I recommend these to all who enjoy the intricacies of their music. Compared to Bose QuietComfort 3s, which I also own, the sound is so much richer and "open stage". Although it isn't fair to compare an open design like the Grados to the Bose headphones, I feel like the Bose headphones are ridiculously overpriced for just the sound canceling feature with sound quality that does not even rival that of the Grados. And another thing: after 1.5 years of normal use the Bose headphones fell apart (they no longer work), which is something I would not expect in a pair of $300 headphones. I'll see how the Grados hold up, but at a third of the price of the Bose, its easy to justify the purchase. :)

  5. This is my 4th "good" set of headphones. I consider my best pair to be my Audio Technica ATH-A700 Closed-Back Dynamic Headphones With Double Air Damping both in sound and build quality. I once owned a set of Audio-Technica Airtight Dynamic Monitor Stereo Headphoneswhich sounded pretty good but were very uncomfortable. My other good pair I use with my iPod is the Sennheiser PX 100 Collapsible Headphones which were my first set of good cans and I still love.

In case you don't know, buying a good set of headphones can lead one down a trail of addiction. The reason is probably because there is no such thing as a perfect headphone and they all have little nuances and sound reproduction characteristics that make them attractive to different people.

Some of the headphones I seriously considered were the Sennheiser HD-555 Audiophile Headphones, Sennheiser HD-595 Premier Headphone, beyerdynamic DT 440 Premium Headphones. All of these headsets have different pluses and minuses. In the end I said to heck with it and went with the Grados because many that own them love them, they almost have a cult following. I should also note that all of the other headphones also have their groupies.

The Grados, at least the lower end models, are known as "fun" headphones geared toward rock. Although I am listening to some bold classical music and they sound great (Gardiner Purcell Collection - Music for the Funeral of Queen Mary, Birthday Ode "Come Ye Sons of Art".

They are an open design meaning you can still hear sounds around you and people can hear your music. Open designs can give the effect you are sitting in a room with the musicians while closed are considered to sound like the music is in your head. That is called the sound stage. My Audio Technica ATH-A700 Closed-Back Dynamic Headphones With Double Air Damping are a closed design which also keeps sound out and you won't disturb others around you.

The Grados treat rock very well, they have more bass then my Audio Technica ATH-A700 Closed-Back Dynamic Headphones With Double Air Damping but its not overbearing or distorted. They are a little more rough sounding then the Audio Technicas, not as crisp but that suits rock well. Individual instruments and details not heard on cheap headsets can be heard with the Grados. Vocals and guitars sound wonderful. I have heard a little roughness a couple of times in the high treble region but that may mellow over time. Headphones do have a break in period where the diaphragm inside loosens up. Many headphone fanatics call this "burn in" and have different methods that they think are best to get the best sound out of headphones. But these Grados sound great right out of the box. Your music source is important when listening to a good set of headphones. Low bit rate MP3s are compressed and can have a whooshing background sound that you may notice more with a better set of headphones. I use these headsets with a computer and iPod that have high Varible Bit Rate recordings that have less artifacts then low bit rate music files.

The only concern I and most have about the Grado SR80s is the quality. The ear pieces have a semi-hard foam cover known to crumble over time and the head strap is covered with an inexpensive looking thin vinyl cover. Another quality concern is that the ear pieces can swivel completely around so you could damage the wire inside. There are websites devoted to modifying the Grados and replacing all of these parts with either components made by yourself or sold by other headphone companies and slightly modified to work on the Grados.

They are moderately comfortable for extended listening but my Audio Technica ATH-A700 Closed-back Dynamic Headphoneswhile a little hotter are much more comfortable.

    PROS

    Great, bold sound reproduction
    The cord is sturdy
    Cool retro look

    CONS

    Construction
May not be the best for all types of music
Not the most comfortabe set of headphones

Overall the great sound is the best thing about the Grados, as it should be.

  1. BASICS:
I recently bought a new computer, a Lenovo Thinkpad x61 (12.1"), and was in dire need of a sleeve to protect it. This product is wonderful and I was very happy to see that my laptop fits perfectly inside, even when I have the extended battery on, which was very important to me and something that I was worried about.

    BOTTOM LINE:
Great product, very nicely made, fits perfectly, stretches nicely but stays snug to hug your laptop and provide protection. Definitely worth buying!

  2. I thought the quality of this was fantastic; and one of the claims of this product was its' ability to stretch in the narrow body and hug the laptop. I have one of these new glassy /glossy surface laptops from HP; and when I put it in the case it had to stretch to fit; so when i pulled the zipper closed; the teeth pressed against the edges of the laptop with every closure. After spending a lot of money fro a new laptop; i didn't like the idea of pressing a zipper against edges several times a day. i returned this and bought the Belkin model which zips 1 and 1/2 way around; and fits snup, but not overly tight; and I love that case!

  3. It really fits around the shape of your tablet and it takes up almost no extra room in my briefcase.

  4. This case fits my 12 inch powerbook perfectly, and is well-padded, so I feel like my computer is protected. Great product!

  5. I haven't used the cover much yet, but it seems like it is a great buy and would last for long. Fits perfect on my x61 Lenovo.

  1. The case does it's job...it protects the iPod, front and back, with it's pink shell and clear cover for the screen. However, it is VERY difficult to get it on and off the iPod. It wouldn't be such a problem but with the case on, you cannot charge the iPod on a dock. It will plug into the computer, but I use a dock and it won't work.

  2. Great color, matches my MacBook! iPod still gets scratched, but it's probably not as bad as it would be without it.

  1. It does what it's supposed to. What more is there to say? Only real way it could get a bad review is if it didn't work. And how could something so simple be messed up?

  2. Like another reviewer said: Does exactly what it's supposed to do. Worked right out of the box. Plugged into my SATA drive, then into the power slot on my motherboard. As far as I understand it, this won't plug into your Power Supply, but needs to be plugged into a card or your mobo.

5 comments about Sennheiser PMX 200 Neckband High Performance Closed Headphone.
  1. They fit nicely over the ear, nice color, but there is really not much more to say about everything else, there is a total lack of bass. The PMX 100 are way better than this and a bit cheaper.

  2. very tinny sound - no base despite the fact that they highlight powerful base on front of packaging. iGado, much better.

  3. Very Good product. It does not produce the full base response you get from the in ear products senheiser makes, but I purchased these to wear during lawn work and walking. These are perfect for any physical activity. They sound good and they stay on...

  4. The PMX 200 sounds incredibly clear. It sounds less bass-heavy than the PMX 100, but it has stronger midrange and high presence. The only issues I have with it is the flimsy appearance and uncomfortable fit for long durations. Overall they are excellent headphones in terms of sound quality.

  5. The first time I purchased this was on a clearance rack and I just picked them up to run with while I had my Ipod. These things are great. The bass response is awesome and the treble is crystal clear. I would recommend these for anyone looking for a great set of headphones for a great price.

5 comments about Belkin PureAV Digital Camcorder FireWire Cable; FireWire 4-Pin to 6-Pin, 6 ft..
  1. I was looking for a cable to download my videos from an older miniDV Sony camera to my Macbook pro. The ones at Best Buys and Frys were about $30+ range. Just make sure you get one that attaches securely so your download will be easier. I think most of the cables are one and the same (they are all Made in China after all) so I don't know if one is really better than the other. What would be nice if they would try to improve on how they can attach more securely to your camera and laptop.

  2. Simply put, the cable never worked properly between my video camera and my MacBook Pro... I later tried a Sony cable, and everything went OK.

  3. Purchased this 4 pin - 6 pin FireWire cable because it was much cheaper at Amazon than any brick & mortar store (even WalMart). I'm well satisfied; works as expected, no problems.

  4. I purchased this Belkin "video" firewire cable through Amazon, and am pleased with the quality of the product. While not nearly as inexpensive as some of the other generic ones available through Amazon, it is clearly well-built and is around half the price of the standard ones you find at retail stores such as Wal-mart, Radio Shack and Best Buy. The cable provides a solid (well-fitted) connection to my Toshiba Vista notebook and the WD MyBook external hard drives I use, and playback of the recorded video on these hard drives through Windows Media Center and Media Player is super-smooth. File backups through the cable seems snappy too.

  5. Product worked as promised and was much cheaper than buying a similar product at Best Buy.

  1. I've purchased this Boom box that has a good quality sound to it. The volume is not as loud as I thought it would be but worth purchasing for a small room.

  2. I just recived the item today. Took it out of the box and it did not power on. I asked for refund and order a diff item from sony...

  3. This is a great boom box, I'm glad I didn't listen to all of the ticky tacky reviews that others wrote. It simply is a great boom box that you can throw in your car and take with you where ever you go to listen to your ipod and cds.

  4. I expected a little more with updated options. The CD function is very BAD!!! For example, you have to press the function to CD in order to eject the CD. There is no timer when a track is played. The ipod takes a few seconds to begin playing and sometimes, it begins at pause???

    I paid $66 when it's probably worth $36.

    The sound quality is good.

  5. My wife won one of these at a meeting a few months ago - good thing because I would really be po'd if I'd had to put out some hard-earned cash to pay for it! It looks decent enough - although one of the grills had a small ding in it straight out of the box. It has no adapter for 3rd generation Nano's - but you can call(a non-toll-free number)and they will send you a couple of tiny foam squares to help 'secure' the current generation Nano (good luck making THAT work!). Most of these quirks I could have lived with - but what I can't tolerate is the truly awful audio quality - absolutely hideous. It won't take a high-end audiophile to recognize it either - even the worst ears out there will know this is REALLY bad. The thin and muddy sound oozing out of the speakers has absolutely no separation, depth, or character - it's just all "out there" in your face. The equalizer presets are laughable and the bass response is a whimpering after-thought at best. No way, no how would I ever buy this. It is good for me that it was a freebie - but it is bad that I can't return it. Don't waste your money here - unless you want to buy mine and I'll give you a better deal than Amazon ever dreamed of!!!

5 comments about Linksys Dual Band Wireless N Ultra Range Plus Expresscard WEC600N.
  1. okay, i bought this back on 4/7/08 and initially out of the box...i was very excited being that it is an expresscard and a highend wireless adapter offered by linksys. well, as soon as i installed the device and rebooted. vista gave me the error concerning driver will not start (error code 10). after a couple of days past tinkering around to troubleshoot, chatting with linksys live support, and searching the web for solutions...i gave up and waited on linksys to provide the solution to their device...but low and behold...on no particular night i tried out the card again...and had success! i believe it was due to vista's update of the service pack 1...its not confirmed, but i knew that was the last thing i did:) as far as the device working now...i tried several configurations to get the best and here is what i have to connect at 270 mbps most of the time. i use device wrt600n wireless router (which is awesome!!! but not after tinkering around with it to suit your needs). wireless connection is set to 'n' only, 40 mhz channel at 5.2 ghz as the standard channel, security set to wpa2-personal with aes encryption. my wireless adapter connected consistently after configuring through vista...so far so good.

  2. This card works better than my original wireless in my laptop. I have actually noticed a visible speed improvement in both using this with my dual band router and other routers at my job. The power drain on the battery is not even noticeable (about 15 minutes off the battery life)

  3. This N wireless adapter connect very weak like junk, do not buy this product and save you money.

  4. Not sure why anyone is whining about this product. It works fine on my laptop. Easy installation and setup. Great speeds.

  5. Thought that the power of the N Ultra router and expresscard would be great but ratings are just OK.
