2 comments about Liberace Box Set (Leapin' Lizards It's Liberace, Liberace's Valentine's Day Special, and Live With the London Philharmonic).
- I bought this set after really getting into the music of Liberace and I found it very entertaining. The guy could play the hell out of a piano and he made it look so easy! It is a true shame that we lost this man as I would have loved to have seen him in concert. There is plenty of stuff for you to fast forward through but enough Liberace to satisfy your craving.
- The master of excess was also a master at spoofing himself, and these shows have a lot of laughs in them, but also a lot more; there is much warmth and likability to Liberace, and his piano technique is better than one would expect, with all those huge rocks on his fingers.
"Leapin' Lizards"
A 1978 show from the Las Vegas Hilton with the following guests:
The Chinese Acrobats of Taiwan, who manage to spin plates while standing on their heads;
Liberace's protégé Vince Cardell, who joins him in a marvelous Latin medley duet;
Barclay Shaw's puppet Toto, in a very special number while Liberace plays "Send in the Clowns" and a few other songs. If you appreciate great puppetry, you will love this part of the show.
Debbie Reynolds, who does "Your Love" with 4 young men in bell-bottomed jump-suits (oh ! the fun of those '70s fashions), and sings and dances with Liberace. Debbie does a funny impersonation of Zsa Zsa Gabor, wearing a "diamond" the size of a headlight, and there is also a cameo by Phillis Diller. Total time is 51 minutes.
"Valentine's Day"
This is from 1979 (when Liberace was 39 + tax) and is filmed at the Las Vegas Hilton and the Queen Mary, which he calls a "yacht". He also shows us his piano collection, which includes a hand-painted antiquity that was used by Chopin.
His guests for this show are Sandy Duncan, who is cute singing and dancing "It's Not Where You Start, it's Where You Finish", and Lola Falana, who is stunningly gorgeous, and seductively graceful in "You're the One That I Want" from Grease. You will want to re-wind and watch her a few times, she is so good. Total time is 51 minutes.
"Live with The London Philharmonic"
Mr. Showmanship celebrated his 40th anniversary "in the biz" with this concert that took place in 1985. You get lots of "classics lite" with bits of Tchaikovsky, Liszt, Chopin and Rachmaninoff, the first movement from Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata", and Strauss waltzes. Much of this is quite lovely, and shows his serious, hard-working side. Having many years ago been a part of a TV special with Liberace, I witnessed that side in the many hours he would put into making everything "look easy". There is also something very touching about this tape, as one senses the happiness playing with this excellent orchestra gave him. A lot of love flows at the end, and some fun too, as he plays chopsticks, and banters with the audience. He saves one of his most spectacular outfits for this performance, a red and black sequined Spanish costume for playing a "Mexican medley". Total time is 57 minutes.
Liberace ends each show with the lovely "I'll be Seeing You", and I should mention the "Dancing Waters" in the Vegas shows. They are positively hypnotic ! Somewhat like a lava lamp for Aquaman. The set comes in a nice shiny box with a mini pop-up Liberace on top.
These are camp classics that will put a smile on your face, and Liberace, while making fun of himself, helps us put the troubles of the world into perspective. Be seriously silly, and enjoy the Glitter King. It is time well spent.

- Mr Roarke(Ricardo Montalban)and Tatoo(Herve Villechaize)are back in this nicely done 1978 TV Movie where 3 fantasies are brought to life 1.A couple ventures to meet the daughter that they gave up for adoption 12 years ago as long as they don't divulge their identity to her which Mr.Roarke has taken strict measures to enforce.2.A beautiful executive is lured to the island under false pretenses assuming that she is striking a lucrative business deal but is tricked by her employee who wants to confess his love for her.3.A young couple whose wife suffers from amnesia caused by a mysterious incident 4 years ago.Their past is recreated as a cure for her sickness.Guest stars in this cast include Adrenne Barbeau,Pat Crowley,Joseph Campanella,Karen Valentine,Laraine Day,Joseph Cotton and Cameron Mitchell.
- I love "Fantasy Island," but never in my life have I seen a DVD with picture quality this bad!
- I remember watching Fantasy Island and enjoyed it. This episode was pretty boring. It's not like the other ones I've watched. The picture quality was terrible! But then again it is on VHS. At least I got it for real cheap. No complaints here.

- I bought this dvd and I do not repent myself, a product of excellent quality. Congratulations Amazon.com because she was perfect in the delivery of the product.
- 20 years ago another act like this was made by Bob Geldof to bring new attitudes against one of the most biggest problem of mankind... Well, twenty years later we're seeing that the poverty is growing and now many countries have been "shoted" by this problem...
It's very hard to say if this act, to promove shows around the world against the poverty, using singers and famous groups it's the best thing to do... But I think we need to have a position about this subject using some kinds of "guns", and the music is good way to touch or even to send a message for the people and to the government...
Well, about the dvd what can I say? A great box with a lot of music... You'll have about 10 hours of music and shows.. I liked that they promoted this stuff including all the main languages on the subtitles, english, german, french, and portuguese (thanks god!)! Great sound and a great images from the shows around the world...
I can give an important value to this event to get the reunion of the Pink Floyd after so many fights and discussions through the years.. Well, if they could come back and play again, why we can't believe that the poverty can disappear?? : ))
Great show and package... Buy it.. You won't be disappointed...
- This is a 4-DVD set, which takes some of the performances from most of the Live 8 venues. Performances by a number of the "big names" who performed at the nine Live 8 venues appear here (there's about 10 hours of material). This is a good set for a starter, to get a good cross-section of the artists and venues. However, DVDs have been issued for at least some of the individual venues; so if you're more interested in getting a whole DVD of one of the venues, it's worth checking to see if the venue you want has been issued individually.
- Loved most of it...some of the acts don't do anything for me but the ones that do are great.
- Great service from the seller! DVD and packaging in excellent shape. And, the content was much better than I expected. I bought this for the Pink Floyd reunion and got that and so much more. The quality of the DVD is amazing and the backstage footage is fun - it would be nice to have had more of that, though. It's a phenomonal collection and I'm really glad I purchased it. Thank you, Amazon!

3 comments about Valentines Day Refugees.
- "Valentines Day Refugees is certainly different from anything I have ever seen. It was strange and captivating. The Ghoulee (skeleton) character encounters all types of mystical ladies from witches, to geisha girls and even pagan females who quote the Bible. I think that is where the movie becomes somewhat thought provoking but not preachy. Also, the cast was extremely appealing. There's life lessons to be learned for everybody, Dads, teens, moms and especialy those single guys and girls that can't find dates on Valentine's day. Whether you like or dislike Valentines Day and all of its vanities is not the question. The question is will you enjoy this movie? I certainly did. This is a movie that the entire family can watch".
- This is a really fun movie! I was entertained from the beginning to the end.
This is a comedy about some zany characters served a la "Munsters" or "Addams Family" and their quest for romance. The cheaters, the desperate, the lonely and the successful.
The question is raised: Is romance really that difficult to find? Or do we have to redefine what we perceive as the ultimate "love connection?" This movie gives its own unique perspective on the so-called "meaning of Valentine's Day" right behind the "meaning of Christmas." A classic line was delivered on December 26th by the teen character Trinity when she said, "It's time to replace the Baby Jesus for the Baby Cupid." All done in good taste, this is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. This movie is bound to be an instant Valentine classic for everyone whether they celebrate Valentine's Day or not!
- I enjoyed this movie so much! Not only is it unusual in its narrative but it has many wonderful and intriguing characters. I enjoyed seeing these characters tackle and argue the subject of relationships and love. Most of all Ghoulee is truly a lovable creature, if I've ever seen one! The fantasy and lore of this story takes you "far away" yet the narrative content is something I'm sure most people can relate to and is so contemporary its hilarious! Love, attraction, affection, loneliness these characters touch on all of it. Valentine's Day Refugees was indeed a delightful sort of spiritual comedy unlike any other with some amazingly true messages you don't see too often now a days. It is a movie for the young and old and can be shared by the entire family."
