4 comments about The Martha Stewart Holiday Collection - Martha's Classic Thanksgiving.
- Easy to navigate and well thought out segments. Some will be duplicates because it is not possible to separate turkey, and stuffing, cooking tips.
What makes this series so good is this that is where Martha started out and where she excels so well. She not only describes her favorites and reveals her secrets; she also has guests with uniquely different ideas about the Thanksgiving meal.
Under Classic Thanksgiving we have:
Turkey five ways
Best Stuffings
Favorite Side Dishes
Special Deserts
Table Settings and Decorating
Kids Thanksgiving Crafts
Somehow she was able to miss my favorite cornbread stuffing. But we can't stuff everything on one DVD now can we. It is also interesting to see how easy Martha handles raw turkeys.
Under printouts the instructions are to view this material please place this disc into a computer with a DVD-Rom Drive and internet connection or go to www.Marnastwwart.com/dvd. Both worked for me. I can not see how anyone can live today without a DVD-Rom.
- I loved this DVD. I have made so many of the recipes. It is very user-friendly on the computer, as well.
- Martha Stewart with a powerdrill! Haha! I doubt I would attempt to pull off half the stuff she does! She rocks!
- This had nothing I could use. The decorations were juvenile and the recipes could be obtained anywhere.

5 comments about What's Cooking?.
- WHAT'S COOKING is a really well-made film about Thanksgiving meals in the homes of four different families (Vietnamese, Mexican-American, African-American and Jewish). The intersecting stories are dramatic, engrossing and touch on subject matter like homosexuality, interracial dating, extramarital affairs and gang violence. I don't want to ruin your experience with this film by getting too involved in plot details. I will say that it manages to depict families from different cultures, celebrating the same holiday together, in an incidental manner so as not to appear excessively "Rainbow Coalition" and politically correct (in other words, you won't feel a chorus of "Kumbaya" coming on). What's more, it has "an all star" cast, including Alfre Woodard and Mercedes Ruehl. I think you'll enjoy it!
- I liked the diverse stories presented in this movie. The Vietnamese family could have had a more accurate portrayal.
- This is a wonderful movie! It has comedy, drama and some interesting cultural comparisons.
- MOVIE WAS FANTASTIC...QUALITY WAS FANTASTIC...IT IS ALWAYS A PLEASURE SHOPPING WITH AMAZON...NEVER DISAPPOINTED...AND WILL ALWAYS BE A CUSTOMER
- This is a good movie to watch with your kids (teens). It's family oriented and uses some important social lessons. Behind the actual "lesson/moral" of the movie, is a warm family driven feature with decent acting.

5 comments about Bear in the Big Blue House - Halloween & Thanksgiving.
- My son was a massive Bear fan until Bob the Builder, but we still watch this video about every other week (even when halloween and Thanksgiving are no where to be seen). It truly helped him understand halloween and to not be afraid of the costumes. The video did an outstanding job of explaining things to him. Even though he was only 2 months short of his second bday last halloween, he loved it and loved the scary costumes of those older children. This year he wants to be a 'green scary man' (to parents in the know this has turned out to be Spooky Ooky from Rolie Polie Olie's halloween show).
Definite must have for parents and their little ones, it's entertaining.
- A great way to familiarize children with two great holidays. Particularly with Halloween (the first half), there's theme decor galore, cute graphics, and cleverly worded songs. Not as much action in the Thanksgiving portion, but still very entertaining and reminds kids that family and friends are what's important during the holidays. Sure to please any Bear fan.
- Love the bear and this is another great video. My 20 month old son loves the songs!
- "Halloween & Thanksgiving" is a "Bear in the Big Blue House" VHS release featuring two "Bear" episodes --- "Halloween Bear" and "The Best Thanksgiving Ever." For a video production, the quality is pretty top-notch --- both episodes are close-captioned, the sound is hi-fi and the recording mode is SP.
"Halloween Bear" features the kids of the Big Blue House dressing up in Halloween costumes in going trick-or-treating. For some, it's their first time and Treelo doesn't understand the concept at first and gets scared by what he thinks is real, but is in fact only a costume. Very cute and with some great songs from the kids, Bear, and Shadow.
"The Best Thanksgiving Ever" - The episode above was nice, but I think this is the standout here. For Thanksgiving at the Big Blue House, Ojo decides to take charge of the decorations and pageant, hoping to make it the best Thanksgiving ever. But her plans all go wrong, with some very comic results --- but not so comic for Ojo. This features two awesome songs --- "So Much to Be Thankful For" (Bear solo and entire cast) and "Thanksgiving With My Friends." This second song is a sweet duet between Bear and Ojo and is truly heartwarming.
This video came out before the current heyday of DVD, meaning that the only sort of special feature was some promos for "Dragon Tales" on video and DVD (a very nice promo) and other "Bear" releases on video. That's okay, though --- VHS really isn't expected to have special features and the program is worth it alone. I sure hope that this will eventually be released on DVD though.

- If there were a choice below 1 star, that would be my rating for this movie. I bought at Walmart -- this and another movie bundled for $5.98. I should have known by the price, that it couldn't be much of a movie. Horribly depressing, terrible storyline. I almost stopped watching half-way through, but kept thinking something may happen to redeem this movie. I was wrong! Don't even want to donate this movie to church rummage sale. Believe I will just throw it away!
- This is a movie DESPERATELY in search of an identity.
It seems to be trying to be a family drama but without much sense of direction. There are all sorts of loose ends. First, there is the alcoholic mother who is confronted by her family but never really pushed into treatment. Then there is the daughter whose husband leaves her on Thanksgiving without much explanation.
The movie could have worked IF:
1. It had a shred of believability. The characterizations aren't believable and the story line is weak, at best. Kellie Martin, who plays the divorced daughter, is supposed to be brave and stoic but instead comes off as hard and uncompassionate.
2 There was any pivotal moment - or even a few key moments. But no, there are no resolutions that make sense and more than a few cheap teasers that insult the viewer's intelligence, including one scene where Ms. Martin nearly falls into her bed with her sister's husband - and THEN has the nerve to tell him that if he EVER cheats on her sister, she'll kill him.... just as if she didn't go to the edge with him earlier in the movie.
Also, the movie seems to meander all over the place and (SPOILER ALERT) by the end of the movie, Mom is still a raging alcoholic and...in what is supposed to be a lightbulb moment, I assume..the divorced daughter realizes that "even a single note can sound lovely" and so she rejects her ex when he comes begging for another chance.
In short, this a formula movie with a capital F. Barely watchable and only if the choice is between this and watching paint dry.
- I was very happy to see that this movie was for sale and quickly bought it! I had watched it several times on TV and loved it! Although it may be formatted a little different, it is still worth the time and money to own it and watch it! I think that it's a great movie and I think that Kellie Martin's character is played out very well! I would definetly recommend this movie!
