1 comments about The Firefighter's Thanksgiving.
  1. This is the story of 10 firefighters of Station 1 on Thanksgiving Day. One of the firemen says he can cook dinner and off they go to the store. With a full cart, a call comes in and they must all leave the cart and rush off to the call. Smoky & sooty they return to the store for their cart and even help the people at the market clean their melted ice cream. Back to the station, it's time to start to begin their dinner; there is peeling, cutting, rolling and mixing. Another call comes in. And then another. A fireman is hurt, but they soon find out he'll be OK.

Will the fireman ever get their turkey in the oven and be able to enjoy their Thanksgiving dinner? I'm not going to ruin the story for you, you'll just have to get the book and read!
I will give you one hint... there is kindness from their local neighborhood and a happy ending as well.

The author of this book grew up around a fire station and then married a fireman! I think she knows her way around a fire station. The illustrator also included a woman as one of the 10 firefighter, which I like a lot. The story has 2 pages of words with nice illustrations, then there are 2 pages with no words just the illustrations and then repeats the pattern until the end of the book. This is a terrific book for any child interested in firefighters and the ending shows the true meaning of Thanksgiving!

Definitely a wonderful book to read to your child around Thanksgiving!

  1. This is a wonderful book about a turkey coming to "Thanksgiving dinner". A great book for elementary children and teachers. A must read to students during Thanksgiving.

  2. This book is a precious story with beautiful pictures. Each page is delightful and very amusing! An absolutely wonderful Thanksgiving story with a twist. I first read it to my children 12 years ago and have searched for a copy for our home for a long time. I have never found it in a bookstore and am thrilled to find it here.

  3. The collaborative effort of Lorna and Lecia Balian, Sometimes It's Turkey, Sometimes It's Feathers is a wonderfully charming holiday picture book about an old woman with a cat who finds a turkey egg. She hatches and raises the turkey, and anticipates a tasty Thanksgiving dinner with it - yet when the season rolls around she finds it far more enjoyable to share the holiday with her new avian friend than to eat him! "He'll be much bigger - and much plumper - next Thanksgiving!" she says to herself, in this sprightly illustrated and enthusiastically recommended tale.

  1. This book, with cheerful illustrations, is delightful! Perfect for teaching your little one about what it means to be thankful! This is one of those books I not only enjoy reading, but it has a lasting value as it teaches an important lesson in thankfulness. Wonderful book for little ones & you'll enjoy it too.

  2. I started to read this book to my daughter in the womb. She is now 3 months old and it is her favorite book. I highly recommend it.

  3. My four year old really enjoys reading this book as do I. The words are as appealing and beautiful as the illustrations. It was a Thanksgiving gift, but we continue to read it year round, to remind us of all we have to be thankful for. It is a wonderful book and a great gift!

  4. I bought this book for my 3yr old and 5 yo. We pray at night together, and sometimes they are at a loss of what they could be thankful for. I ask them what is something you are thankful for that happened today? This book has possiblities to open their imaginations and give them ideas of what to be thankful for. God's creation, Family, food, playtime, friends, toys, and most especially for God loving me. Sometimes a book can get a message across so much more than my recommendations. I am glad that I purchased this book.

  1. Great poems for Thanksgiving. Fun to read aloud with one child or a group of children. I used it in my classroom for many years. I bought this copy to donate to the library at my church.

3 comments about P Is for Pilgrim: A Thanksgiving Alphabet (Sleeping Bear Alphabets).
  1. I love this alphabet series and since it rarely is found in paperbook form, I was lucky to purchase it post-holiday. The text is very engaging and the the facts are great for older students.

  2. This book had so many interesting facts about Thanksgiving and the illustrations are great. The adults and children in my family loved this book and because of the rhyming portion even very young children will love this book and get something out of it. There are alphabet books for almost any subject and for every state in the US and I have never been disappointed with any of them.

  3. This is a great book for your little ones. Covers things in a general way with each letter and then in a column on each page is more detail. So, its a great book for multiple ages. This series is probably one you should consider having in your school - I purchase the books associated with my kids family history and then we can read and talk about the state/subject while adding a few family history lessons into the mix. Illustrations are great and the kids really enjoy them.

2 comments about Happy Thanksgiving, Biscuit! (Biscuit).
  1. This book is geared for ages 2-6 but my 19-month-old toddler loves the story. Biscuit's owner, a little girl, teaches Biscuit what the Thanksgiving holiday is all about. Biscuit puts the ideas he learns into action by interacting throughout the story with the little girl, Daisy (the cat), and Grandpa and Grandma who come over for Thanksgiving dinner. What I find wonderful about the Biscuit holiday books are the flaps that open to reveal what Biscuit is doing. The concepts of sharing and doing good deeds for others is the theme.

  2. This is an adorable book. Biscuit and a little girl get ready for Thanksgiving together. You can lift the flap to see what sort of trouble Biscuit is getting into. Finally the grandparents come to visit. I'm thankful for Biscuit!

5 comments about Arthur's Thanksgiving (Arthur Adventure Series).
  1. This book I like because it is exciting. The ending is very very great. Thanks for writing books Marc Brown.

  2. I think the book "Author's Thanksgiving" is a good book, because it helps kid understand about Thanksgiving. It also tells kids that in anything you do there can be a problem, but all you have to do is think it out even if you have to hurt a friend's feelings to make something better. I really enjoyed the book and the ending was not what I was expecting ( which is a good thing)! It was a very cute thing!

  3. In this story Arthur couldn't find a turkey. The best part of the story was when he found a turkey. We learned that at Thanksgivintg we can have fun like Arthur. Arthur was very funny in this story. Our favorite part of the story was when Arthur was a turkey and then everybody else became a turkey. We think that everyone should read this book because it has lots of funny pictures in it.

  4. The book was a brilliant book. I like how Arthur was the director and Francine thought that she was going to direct. Arthur had trouble finding a turkey for the school play and how he had to try to bribe people. Everyone threatened to quit the play if he couldn't find a turkey. He even bought a real turkey. Then in the end, he decided to be the turkey himself.

  5. In this book, Arthur is chosen by Mr. Ratburn to be the director of the school's "Thanksgiving Day' play. As expected he is wined and dined for the primo parts by Francine, Buster and friends. The problems start however when it comes to filling the role of the chief bird. No one wants to wear that Turkey suit!

Arthur puts pressure on everyone to get someone to play the part. He tries his parents, his friends, even his sister D.W. Every one has excuses as to why they can't do it.

Arthur begins to think about Turkeys while doing math problems, practicing the piano, and even doing the dishes. Finally he decides to take the part himself.

Despite the ensuing chaos, when the big day comes the performances go well. The moment comes for the Turkey to say his lines. Arthur's comes on stage and goes red with the laughter of the audience; but he is not on stage alone for very long. Soon all of his friends and family are there too-- all dressed like turkeys. Turns out they all 'stepped up' to support Arthur.

Four Stars. [B-]. Cute Arthur story that doesn't really go into the Thanksgiving story/Pilgrim story - just in case that is what you are looking for. It does however demonstrate that family and friends are something to be thankful for.
