1. This is one of two titles by Elizabeth Hough Sechrist that I have always treasured (the other being "Heigh-Ho for Hallowe'en!" which is sadly still out of print). I first found her work, appropriately enough, when I was a child. Several of her books about holidays were in our children's library at school, and they were that type of book which I had to check out again and again because they were so interesting.

   This title, "It's Time for Thanksgiving" offers up a wide range of stories, poems, and plays centered on the theme of Thanksgiving. Guy Fry's fun illustrations are sprinkled throughout the book, and never fail to bring a smile.

   There is a story of young people in pioneer days preparing the Thanksgiving feast while their parents are not at home, and they have visitors drop by who they have been taught to fear; Indian visitors (I know the term isn't PC, but the book is very respectful, otherwise)! Another tale revolves around children charged with making pumpkin pies, but a simple miscommunication leads to more pies than they can handle! A boy's pet goose is slated for the chopping block and Thanksgiving dinner, until fate intervenes. And a fun play has a little boy who overeats on Turkey Day put on trial by food!

   The stories are rich and imaginative, always fun and simple. The tales have the definite feel of the mid-fifties, which in my humble opinion make them so much better than the types of things served up and force-fed to kids today. You just knew that Ms. Sechrist and her co-author, Jannette Woolsey, really loved and understood the world of children and the excitement of holidays, and her work (unlike commercialized junk like "Barney"), was not just an excuse to mass-market toys.

   Coming back into print after all these years! Let us hope more of Elizabeth Hough Sechrist's work will be made available once again! Hurrah, Omnigraphics!

1. Great message to teach children any time of year! The only problem - the book we bought didn't have page numbers, so my son didn't know where to put the corresponding stickers.



2. "The Extra-Thankful Thanksgiving" is a book based on characters and themes from the popular Nick Jr. show "Little Bill." Little Bill learns from Brenda that Thanksgiving is about more than just good food --- it's about being thankful for the things we love. Little Bill does his best and thinks of some great things and people that he's thankful for.
   
   A nice story. Easy to follow and with good illustrations. The characters look like they do on the TV show, but the other illustrations have their own style and good detail.
   
   
   This book comes with a total of 56 stickers. As has already been mentioned, the stickers specify page numbers to place them, but the book has no page numbers. They can just be used anywhere, though, if you or your kids would like to.

1. I own this book and have read it over 10 times. It's a great story and kids can have fun reading it, and they learn about American history without knowing it, too!

   Karen and her family take a trip to Plymouth Plantation which is a place where people can learn about pilgrims and how they lived. Not only can the tourists learn about it, but they feel as though they're actually in a real pilgrim village! There are actors and actresses who pretend to be pilgrims and native americans(indians).

   This is a book that kids can read over and over again(as I have done) and still not get bored with it. With each time that you read it, you learn a little more and it's still interesting! All in all, this is a must read book.

1. My daughter was sent this book for Thanksgiving two years ago. She loves cats so it appealed to her - but its a very sweet tale about how the cats work together to grow and harvest their food and then how they prepare it and share it; all done in a rhyming mannner. This is a great story.



2. Another cute rhyming book about cats from Jean Marzollo. I like the illustrations in this one, and again another chant about cats and kittens that any cat lover will adore. Too cute.



3. A cute, seasonal book great for any beginning reader who loves cats or animals.
