  1. Good book. Could do a little bit more better. Jessica and Elizabeth are always fighting, that's true. Their mother admit that she and her sisters never fight, even once ! But on Thanksgiving Day, everything changes. Jessica and Elizabeth's aunts and cousins come to Sweet Valley to celebrate the big day. Somebody wake up early in the morning to do the stuffing. Some changes in the family history. It also changes the 'harmony' family who never quarrels. They conduct a war on a day which suppose to be happy and loving. Who stop it ? Jessica ? Elizabeth ? One of their cousins ? You'll just have to read it.

  2. This was one of the best SVT books I've read! A great Thanksgiving story with a lot of bittersweet memories & a good deal of family stress that marks this time of the year. The book rivals a Baby-Sitters' Club book with its deep probe into the psychology & family dynamics & poignant parts. Interesting how Alice insisted that she & her sister NEVER fought, but when her sisters Nancy & Laura show up, they fight more than Elizabeth & Jessica & their cousins! All in all, it was a lot like a BSC book...a warm, touching family gathering, but imperfect with a poignant, bittersweet ending. The families of the BSC members end up with family gatherings like that. A great Thanksgiving read!

  3. This is another extra-funny Sweet Valley Twin classic!Jessica and Elizabeths auntys are visiting and, despite Mrs Wakefields constant ramblings that she and her sisters never ever fought, the house is FILLED to the brim with arguments galore! It is really funny too,and the interaction between Jess +Liz and their cousins is fun and realistiuc as always, and yep we get to meet Robin again!

  4. Mr and Mrs.Wakefield invite Mrs.Wakefield's sisters,Laura and Nancy along with their children,Robin,Stacey and Kelly for Thanksgiving and all they do is fight! Alice[Mrs.Wakefield] and her sisters fight,Elizabeth and Jessica fight, Robin and Stacey fight. I think one of them runs away over the fighting.

  1. Joey Melvin is a list lover. Since the day he learned to write, he's been creating lists to help him remember things like where to find his missing socks. So when the holidays roll around, Joey is always the first one to send his Christmas list to Santa. This year, however, he's getting an even earlier start than usual, for he's putting his Christmas list in the mail even before Thanksgiving! However, it won't be the last list he's creating, for Joey's mother soon loses her shopping list, and needs to re-write it before Thanksgiving is ruined. So Joey helps. Unfortunately, once the Melvin's relatives arrive, and the festivities begin, the snow comes down harder than anyone could have imagined, and the family is trapped indoors without any food. That is, until Santa Claus and his crew of reindeer arrive to save the day!

There are rarely cute, fun stories released for Thanksgiving. In fact, it usually seems like bookstores go straight to Christmas after Halloween, and put just a few harvest stories on the shelves - most likely because not many have been written. Which is why Natasha Wing's MERRY THANKSGIVING is a gem for the holiday season. MERRY THANKSGIVING combines two extremely family-oriented holidays - Thanksgiving and Christmas - and creates a splendid story filled with fun, family, snow, turkey...and Santa Claus! The illustrations by Isidre Mones bring the story to life, while the individual personalities of each character will bring a smile to the faces of all young readers. Overall, this is a marvelous story that will make the entire family gather 'round the table for more.

  1. I think that thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. This book is just like my family. We always have something to share about what we are grateful for and it is a good idea for families to remember to do on thanksgiving. This book is great for that.

  2. I stumbled onto this book well before November and read it with my children. They loved that it was a family's book of poems. They loved the descriptions of the different family members. They loved seeing me check it out from the library again this week (Thanksgiving Week). I like it well enough to share with my extended family, though my neices and nephews are mostly college-age and above. I am hoping that they will spend time reading it to my early elementary-aged kids and find themselves wondering what they would have written. I hope my mother reads it to my children and wonders the same. My mom traditionally asks all of us to take turns around the Thanksgiving table sharing news about the blessings of the past year. I am hoping this book will add to her enjoyment and the family fun.

  1. I am a big fan of Kate Waters' books, "Samuel Eaton's Day" and "Sarah Morton's Day". It was with great excitement that I found this book to accompany them ! All too many books about the pilgrims either portray them as "Evil bigots" or as the glossed over "wouldn't it be fun to be a pilgrim ?" portrayal. I enjoy all of these books because they give an accurate, historical representation of the times. ON THE MAYFLOWER, in particular, gives both a peek into the day to day living on board the ship, as well as the view as seen from a child's perspective. I highly reccomend this book !

  1. I looked over dozens of Thanksgiving books at the bookstore to find one that told the story of Thanksgiving . I thought this one was one of the two best I saw. The story was told simply, but also describing new words well. It starts with why people chose to leave England, the hardships they faced here, how the Indians helped the newcomers, and how the first Thanksgiving came about. What I thought really added to this story was that it described how we celebrate Thanksgiving today, and things we can do to show our thanks by helping others. That was one thing I was really looking for in a Thanksgiving book. I wanted my 5 year old to understand better why we do things for others during the holidays, and throughout the year. This may be a little long for too young kids, but looks great for 4 and older. Hope you enjoy it too.

1 comments about The Firefighter's Thanksgiving.
  1. This is the story of 10 firefighters of Station 1 on Thanksgiving Day. One of the firemen says he can cook dinner and off they go to the store. With a full cart, a call comes in and they must all leave the cart and rush off to the call. Smoky & sooty they return to the store for their cart and even help the people at the market clean their melted ice cream. Back to the station, it's time to start to begin their dinner; there is peeling, cutting, rolling and mixing. Another call comes in. And then another. A fireman is hurt, but they soon find out he'll be OK.

Will the fireman ever get their turkey in the oven and be able to enjoy their Thanksgiving dinner? I'm not going to ruin the story for you, you'll just have to get the book and read!
I will give you one hint... there is kindness from their local neighborhood and a happy ending as well.

The author of this book grew up around a fire station and then married a fireman! I think she knows her way around a fire station. The illustrator also included a woman as one of the 10 firefighter, which I like a lot. The story has 2 pages of words with nice illustrations, then there are 2 pages with no words just the illustrations and then repeats the pattern until the end of the book. This is a terrific book for any child interested in firefighters and the ending shows the true meaning of Thanksgiving!

Definitely a wonderful book to read to your child around Thanksgiving!
