  1. "Laura and the Leprechauns" by Amber T. Kingston is an imaginative story and captures the magic of the world of leprechauns. The story is appropriate for reading during any season, and will soon become a St. Patrick's Day favorite.

Amber skillfully used both visual and written communication mediums. The radiant colors used in her stunning illustrations bring life to these legends. Amber uses captivating photographs in overlays with her beautiful paintings depicting the bushes and hedgerows where the leprechauns hide. Twelve of the pages feature sparkling glitter, which will stir up and enhance the creative imagination of the young reader and add to the sparkle and magic of narrative.

Inspired by the imagination of a seven year, Amber takes the reader on an amazing journey as Laura's wish come true. The author's word choice is age appropriate. The illustrations and dialog communicate the wholesomeness of children, through their facial expressions, and the sense of emotion they project. The book reminds the reader, whether young or old, anything is possible when you believe hard enough.

"Laura and the Leprechauns" is a timeless story of belief in Leprechauns and is destined to become a classic in children's literature. This is a book that will endure time. It should be added to school libraries. It will make a perfect gift of any occasion.

  2. This is a beautifully illustrated children's book. Laura is a little girl who writes to the leprechauns because she believes in them, but her friends don't think they exist. Two friendly leprechauns receive her letter, and decide they should go visit. They take their magic shamrock and fly day and night to reach her. The leprechauns leave hints for her to figure out they are there. When they finally meet, they enjoy a lovely St. Patrick's Day tea party together by the lily pond.

The story is well written, and moves quickly. The lovely illustrations bring the story to life; my favorite is the one where they are riding their shamrock in the night sky. Many of the illustrations that include the leprechauns are enhanced with glitter, a refining touch. While their meeting occurs on St. Patrick's Day, I would read this story to my boys any time of the year. We are of Irish descent, and leprechauns are always welcome in our house!

  3. Great book that is well illustrated and edited. Everyone should read this book even if it is not St. Patrick's Day. It is well written book that parents should share with their children.

  4. Reviewed by Eric Zeda (age 9) for Reader Views (1/08)

This story is about a little girl named Laura who believes in leprechauns. Her friends tell her that leprechauns do not exist, so she writes a letter to find out if this is true. Two leprechauns, named Be-bub and Maddy, receive her letter and decide to pay her a special visit. They travel a long distance on their magical shamrock to find Laura and prove to her that leprechauns are real. When they get to her house, they leave clever notes and clues. Laura wakes up on St. Patrick's Day and finds a wonderful surprise. She makes special friends and has a wonderful time.

I really enjoyed this book. The illustrations and pictures are great. I like the way some of them sparkle because they are covered with glitter. I also liked pretending that leprechauns are real and that magical things exist. I recommend "Laura and the Leprechauns" to anyone who likes to believe in magical beings, and likes to use their imagination.

When a little girl named Lauren questions the belief in leprechauns, two leprechauns, Maddy and Be-bub, from a land faraway called Shrilannon, answer her letter and head off on their magical flying shamrock to visit her just in time for St. Patrick's Day.

What a magical tale this is to share with your wee ones just in time for St. Patty's Day!

Laura and the Leprechauns reinforces the use of imagination and creativity - something that children need more than ever in these days of high tech.

Author Amber Kingston writes and illustrates this charming book. Amber enchants the reader by using a variety of mixed mediums which include real photographs, lots of glitter (that children adore) and delightfully colored pencil drawings.

Let Laura and the Leprechauns be a stepping stone to planning a fun-filled day of imagination and play with your children!

Armchair Interviews says: This is a book your children will come back to time and time again!

  1. We have several of the books in this series and have enjoyed them all, until now. The Story of St. Patrick is choppy and does not give a final thought about God's love. I highly recommend The Story of ... Jesus, Noah, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter, but the St. Patrick's day book is more of a novelty.

  1. We really enjoyed this book and recommend it to all people, especially the Irish and people who love the mythology of the "Wee Folk"! The faces are wondefully drawn and kids will love the ingenuity of the children in the book. A magical delight people the world over should love!

  2. First-rate illustrations are the best feature of this book. The story is entertaining but can be long for 4 and 5 year-olds.

The story faults, in that it employs too many characters with no character development, which adds unnecessary confusion and clutter to the story. There is a little boy (Sean) and girl (Meghan), three very old ladies (the children's aunties), and a leprechaun exchanging dialogue in the same 1 or 2 pages, at different points throughout the book.

As a parent reading to a child, who wants to present a different voice for each character so that the child can easliy identify who is speaking in the story, there are too many characters talking, but with no distinguishing personalities to make understanding easier.

However, the story is somewhat entertaining despite its flaws.

  3. Do you believe in leprechauns? Well, this is a great book for kids who believe in leprechauns! The books title is Lucky O' Leprechaun. This book was written and illustrated by Jana Dillon. This book took place in Louisiana.
This book is about two children, Sean and Meghan, and their Aunties' are looking for very sly leprechauns during St. Patrick's Day. There are some interesting parts about this book. There is one type of language in this book. The language is English. But, there is some Irish dialect. There are very large pictures in this book as well. But, the pictures don't have very vivid colors. Lucky O' Leprechaun (A leprechaun) says "Top of the morning to you," many times. Sean and Meghan have three aunts helping them. There names are Moira, Kathleen, and Bridget. But there are many freaky things about this book as well. First, the eyes look pretty weird when you keep staring at them. They look like big bulging eyes. Most of all there are two annoying little leprechauns that keep saying "Top of the morning to you." So, it gets a little annoying. When you read it about five times it gets boring. Also when you look at the pictures too many times you will see the same color in your eyelid. But, despite the weird things, I would totally recommend this book! I would rate this book a 3 out of 5. So, for all you children who like St. Patrick's Day read this book! You can check this book at a library or a book store. So enjoy this book whenever you want to. I recommend this book for K-2. So be lucky and for all you know you might find a pot of gold

  1. Every St. Patrick's Day two towns compete to see who could decorate better. Sick of losing every year a young girl in one of the towns comes up with the idea of painting everything in the village green (except the mailboxes - they're government property and fire hydrants - which must be yellow so they can be seen). When a stranger comes asking for help the town must decide whether or not to abandon their painting to help. The illustrations feature bold colors and are well suited for this delightful folk tale.

  2. Looking for a book with a fun St. Patrick's Day tale, bright illustrations, a moral and a wee bit `o leprechaun magic? Here it is.

Wojciechowski spins an original folktale of two Irish towns engaged in an annual St. Patrick's Day decorating competition. Preparations are getting heated and judging time draws near when a stranger arrives asking for help. How each town reacts teaches a moral lesson about helping others and working together.

The folk-art illustrations by Tom Curry complement the mood of the story and are fun to look at. I can't wait to read this to my kids.

  3. I love this tale for it offers the perfect opportunity to discuss generosity and service to ones community. In the story the whole community comes together to paint the town Limerick Lime. They also unite to help the traveling stranger with his problem. There's so much selfishness in society today, and every now and then it's nice to be reminded of the things that matter most in life, friendship, love, and community. Well, those things matter most to me anyway...

The illustrator, Tom Curry, has a folksy style that lends itself to Wojciechowski's countrified fable. Reminiscent of Grandma Moses' folk art, Curry's pastoral scenes are charming, and out of the ordinary for children's literature.

Susan Wojciechowski generally known for the Beany series succeeds in writing a noble tale of charity verses greed. She has a pleasing way with words as the text flows along page after page. There's a lilt to her writing, and she's thrown in a bit of the Irish brogue as well. All in all, A Fine St. Patrick's Day is a worthwhile read.
