1 comments about Wacky Wedding, The: A Book of Alphabet Antics.
- My daughter and I read this book together and with each page you look for the letter that it talks about. I gotta tell you there were many pages in which we were stumped! It got so that we both lost the point of the story and just looked for the letter in the illustrations. My daughter liked this book but I personally have seen better alphabet books.

2 comments about Happy Birthday, America!.
- As a librarian living and working in the midwest, I was thrilled to get a beautifully illustrated book celebrating July 4th. Not enough is published on this holiday. I was very disappointed, though, to see that the book lacks any depiction of people of color, who certainly inhabit many small towns throughout this country. Shame on all the powers that be who allowed this to go to print with such a narrow perspective. There is no excuse for not making this book truly representative of America, with all its hues, especially in the long shots, where dozens of townsfolk are depicted.
- This book was so evocative of my memories of Fourth of July celebrations in my hometown in Wisconsin. From sparklers to grand fireworks, from wagons to parades, from wiggling jello to yummy picnic fare, this book is populated by a never-ending family--it's wonderful, joyous reading. And the ending gives me shivers each time I read it--thank you Marsha Wilson Chall for putting my memories into words.

2 comments about Raggedy Ann's Birthday Party Book (Raggedy Ann).
- This book is very much like the "Rageddy Ann's Tea Party Book". It tell how the dolls go about arranging a Birthday party for a new doll. Along the way it gives ideas and details on how to do things for the party. How to bake and decorate the cake, decorations, and home made gifts. My daugther loved it. We read it rigth there in the store because we couldn't wait to get home. I bougth one to donate to our school libary. Her classmates loved it also.

3 comments about Chinese New Year's Dragon.
- This book contained very good general information for kids about Chinese New Year; however, it was written in a very choppy style and the ideas also did not flow from one to the next. Within the general information about the young girl's preparation and celebration was a brief one to two page story about flying on a dragon and seeing Chinese New Year in ancient times. This story was too short and really didn't say anything about how the celebrations might have differed; however, connecting current celebrations to ancient times was a nice idea. ...
- She took it to bed to read to herself the other night. If you were doing Ch. New Year with a KG - 5th class, you could use the book, but only read selected paragraphs All the important bits of the celebration are there.
- This is Chinese New Year as I know it. This book is 15 years old, so I was prepared to find it dated in both art and flow. Instead I found myself utterly drawn in, instantly comfortable with the way the people and their home and environments were rendered. Clothing and hair styles, home furnishings, food drawings--everything is spot on, plus, there's this education flavor to the drawings that makes me nostalgic for . . . my old Saturday morning Chinese school books? The text works great for me, too. The device of sharing so much information about usual Chinese New Year traditions via the opener "Just like any other year . . ." on every page, while we wait to hear what was different about THIS year, really drew me in.
The moment of dragon-riding fantasy is breathtaking.
So why am I giving this only 4 stars instead of 5? Well, it's crazy, but as much as I love this book and am getting it for myself, I'm still not sure this would be the first Chinese New Year book I'd give my FRIENDS' kids, these days, and that's my test for what gets 5 stars. I'm almost suspicious this book is TOO perfect for me, and that my friends' kids (the ones being born now) wouldn't relate the same way.
I could be wrong. I'm going to show it around and see what others think. I could just be in denial my friends and I have become our parents.
This book is wonderful.

1 comments about The Story of Saint Patrick's Day.
- We have several of the books in this series and have enjoyed them all, until now. The Story of St. Patrick is choppy and does not give a final thought about God's love. I highly recommend The Story of ... Jesus, Noah, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter, but the St. Patrick's day book is more of a novelty.
