  1. The new Early Step into Reading books are terrific. With only a few simple words, they convey an entire story. I especially liked THERE IS A TOWN. It starts off with a town and narrows it's focus down to a street, a house, etc. then starts over inside a dollhouse and goes in the reverse. I thought my niece would especially like it.

  2. I borrowed this book from the library for my 2 yr old son and he didn't want to return it. So I bought it. Previously he had been reading the typical board books, which invite some imagination but not like this one. The detailed illustrations in this book are great (best in hardcover), and my son tells all sorts of mini stories as he studies them. The actual story that goes along with the illustrations is very simple and includes the sort of predictability and repetition that is great for beginning readers. Highly recommended.

  1. We have several of the books in this series and have enjoyed them all, until now. The Story of St. Patrick is choppy and does not give a final thought about God's love. I highly recommend The Story of ... Jesus, Noah, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter, but the St. Patrick's day book is more of a novelty.

1 comments about Happy Mother's Day, Mami!.
  1. Happy Mother's Day, Mami! tells the story of Dora finding the ingedients she needs in order to make a special Mother's Day cake for her Mami. There are 3 recipe cards laid out, and Dora asks the reader "Do you see the recipe card that has bananas, nuts, and chocolate?"

Dora doesn't have the needed ingredients, so with the help of trusty Map, she ventures to the Banana Grove, through the Nutty Forest, and finally arrives at the Chocolate Tree. Along the way, she encounters her friends Boots, Tico the squirrel, Benny the bull, and Isa the iguana...all who have created beautiful presents for their Mothers in celebration of El Dia de las Madres.

Of course, no Dora story would be complete without sneaky Swiper the fox trying to swipe something...and in this case, it's Isa's bouquet of flowers that she's about to give to her Mom for Mother's Day.

Dora brings back the needed ingredients, and her papi (father) helps mix the batter for the special cake. Mami thinks the cake tastes delicioso!

This fun story teaches children several Spanish words, including how to count one through six in Spanish. In fact, the inside front cover features a chart featuring 13 English words, the Spanish term, and the Spanish pronunciation of each.

  1. this book was a ok book but it didn't have much of a riding action or a falling action. i wouldn't really recommend it

  2. As a teacher in an urban school, I loved this book! It was a great book for teaching sequence of events. It was also fun to have the children smell the spices/seasonings as they were mentioned in the book, and provided for a very multisensory lesson. The children loved making predictions about if they thought each spice would make the ox-tail stew just right. Illustrations were wonderful. This book is now one of my treasures!
