5 comments about Santa Cruise: A Holiday Mystery at Sea (Unabridged).
- Because I've enjoyed previous Higgins Clarks' Alvirah and Willy mysteries and was about embark on a cruise in Hawaii, I thought this book would be perfect! Was I wrong!! It has a paper thin plot, if any, and even the usual cast of characters is weakly drawn. It's almost as if it were given as a class assignment - "Write a novel in the Mary Higgins Clark/Carol Higgins Clark STYLE." It was awful! One redeeming feature - the authors did their homework about cruises - all the details were there - passenger photos with the captain, food, etc., it clicked in that way. But the plot was downright silly! Can you imagine Alvirah being able to swim all the way around a 400-passenger ship and then catch a box in her hand? PLEASE do not buy this book, especially at full price as I did, thinking it would be just right for my cruise experience. I wanted to throw it overboard!
- This was a fun, light read! The story went quickly and was very entertaining.
- Do you like bungles and bumps? Then you will like this book. It tickled my funny bone many times.
- I was disappointed in Mary and Carol's book. The story was not
interesting as all. Poor story line and writing.
- The usual plot for Mary Higgins Clark, always looking for a new angle with familiar authors.

1 comments about Chinese New Year (Images of Asia).
- If you've ever wandered through the streets of a Chinese city during Chinese New Year (or any Chinatown in the world during Chinese New Year) and wondered why there are so many stands selling oranges and pomelos, cans of abalone, and flowering plum or pussywillow branches, this is the book for you. You'll discover that this is a festival unlike any other as many of the activities and symbols have origins in ancient myths and even more modern word plays and puns. Simple, easy-to-read, and full of interesting insights into both classical and modern Chinese practices.

3 comments about Pilgrim Girl: Diary and Recipes of her First Year in the New World.
- This volume is just what we were looking for for the library at our daughters elementary school. It is a wonderful balance of history, adventure and great recipes for kids to try. A great resource for teachers and parents! Charming and so well done. HIghly suggest this one for class projects.
- I encouraged my daughter to read this and she had so much fun I read it, too. The we made the recipes-which are mouthwatering delicious! A meal for the mind and for the stomach.
- This book is a winner, and not just for children! Pilgrim society comes vividly alive through believable characters and of course, those surprisingly adaptable recipes. We've successfully turned out several of them, and in the process awakened an interest in early American history in our young nephews. Thanksgiving projects are a natural tie in, but "Pilgrim Girl" will feed body and spirit any time.
