- I have been using the "New Porclamation" series for a resource for two years now and "Year A, 2005 Easter through Pentecost" is the fourth book in the series that I have purchased. At times the comments on the readings seem either to be too obvious or too distant from suitability. However, this volume was a bit better than the previous two I had used. I don't expect a source to present me with a prepared sermon. However, covering the readings a second or third time around often leaves me redoing the earlier version. I like a book that tosses out some helpful general thoughts for consideration. When the "New Proclamation" series is at its' best, this is exactly what it does. It is certainly a valuable resource for those who may serve more than one denomination because it clarifies which denominations are using what readings for which Sunday. I noticed that the editors change for each half-year issue which is probably why some seem better than others. However, the whole series has definitely been worth having. I think, however, that after buying the next two, I'll consider my set complete.
