5 comments about Dear Little One: Thoughts to My Child in an Uncertain World.
  1. Masterful. Quite possibly the most beautiful book I've ever read, for and about human beings on this earth. The reflections, observations and guiding hopes in Dear Little One will accompany my kids now, and throughout their adult lives. I can't think of another book that does that. This book is unique. And poignant. And ultimately the kindest gift.

  2. I was deeply moved by DEAR LITTLE ONE and bought several more copies for couples I know who just had a baby or are having one soon. This is a perfect gift book, but more than that, because the reflections will last a lifetime. Nice black and white photography, too.

  3. At first I thought 'Dear Little One' was strictly a parent's thoughts and dreams for her children, but then I saw where the author was going. The reflections on so many topics of life are divided into four life-stages: infancy, childhood, adulthood, and the twilight years. The author began by talking to a baby. By the last page, she was talking to me. Beautifully written. `Dear Little One' is a classic children's book for grown-ups that reminded me of `The Little Prince.'

  4. The only complaint I have about Dear Little one is... it ends. I could have read a thousand more pages of this author's loving reflections on subjects that range from hope and new life to marriage and the twilight years. But perhaps that is the beauty of this book - it is so pure and distilled, there may nothing further to add, not one word. Dear Little One seems to work on two levels: first, as a parent's thoughts to her children, and all children; but also then to adults, as children of God. Dear Little One captures the joy, vulnerability, dignity and meaning of being human. The reflections are, in turn, poetic, humorous, whimsical, wise and moving. My favorites include "The Moon in a Bottle Cap," "On Fear," "Money," a clever little poem called "Art," "An Uncertain World," and of course "Dear Little One." I am carrying this book with me these days and looking forward to the author's next work.

  5. Dear Little One is a treasure! Filled with thoughtful insights, honest observations and engaging humor, this delightful book is a great source of inspiration for young and old alike.

1 comments about Bug Your Mom Day (Miss Spider).
  1. "Bug Your Mom Day" is an 8x8 book of the "Miss Spider's Sunny Patch Friends" story by the same name. In this book, Miss Spider's various little buglets try to come up with the greatest present ever for "Bug Your Mom Day." All except Wiggle, who's decided that he's going to make her a card. The other kids don't think this is nearly enough, but Wiggle may just have the right idea.

This book is wonderfully illustrated, as always and it's a swell adapation of the TV story. This book comes with some bugtastic holographic stickers --- of Shimmer, Snowdrop and Pansy, Wiggle, Holley, Spinner, Miss Spider (with Dragon, Bounce and Squirt) and more.

  1. Poor Polly feels rejected, because all her animal friends have sweethearts. Thus, Polly sets out in search for a valentine, but asks inanimate objects such as a rose bush, and her slop to be her valentine. Kids understand how silly it is to pose such questions to a rose, and to slop, so they laugh. The illustrations are soft and simply rendered with little details, but enough to get the point across. The pages are colorful with lots of neutrals, greens, pinks, and reds.

I'm partial to this story because it's about a parent's love for their child, and young children relate to that. The text is a blast to read aloud. Bateman works the meter like a pro, and I purposely read the story fast for emphasis. The 24-paged book only takes about 3-minutes to read aloud, thus I recommend it to the 3 to 7 crowd. Fun holiday story, or for year round reading as well.

  1. This is a good story about a thoughtful and clever girl. All mothers could use the unusual and creative gift Charity thinks of. Perhaps this book will give your own kids some ideas.

  1. My 2.5 year old found this book herself on the library shelves at our local library. We've been reading it at least twice every day for the past 2 weeks now. It is very sweet and masterfully written. In a few words, the writer touches you to the point that the first few readings, I would get choked up a little. This book is great for all little ones who have to say goodbye to mom (or dad) in the mornings (and who don't like to), and for those who love animals and taking care of them. It has some fun parts revolving around baking cookies too (which you can later try with your little ones).

  2. This masterful book with lovely watercolor drawings touches on themes of special interest and concern to very young children--separation from mommy, trying out an adult role, sharing and learning to nurture another. The writing style is appealing to the very young, as it is simple, yet still provides details of most interest to them (with great emphasis on the senses of smell and touch). The plot, too, is captivating. While it describes an unusual event, it describes it within the context of surroundings and relationships that will be familiar to children.

My 2 year old enjoys this book several times a day.

  3. This classic tale of love and empathy still makes me go, "Awww." everytime! The special connction between litle ones and caregivers is delicately played out in words and watercolors. This book is a great read about non-romantic love at Valentines. Perfect for cuddle time, lap time, or anytime you need reminding how soft the heart is.

5 comments about Cheaper Than Therapy: How to Keep Life's Small Problems from Becoming Big Ones.
  1. This charmingly simple book spoke volumes to me about the dangers of a disorganized life, and brought to mind several practical applications. If I don't hang up my clothes every night, my bedroom is soon an unworkable mess. If I don't take care of my mail (and other paperwork) diligently and often, it soon becomes overwhelming, and I can't find that piece of paper I really need. If I don't spot-clean the kitchen and baths (almost) every day, things get disgusting quite quickly, and germs can grow. And the list could go on. It's so refreshing to see a simple, highly useful truth presented in such an engaging way, and I look forward to the next "lesson." Way to go, Gina!

  2. Who knew that paying attention to inanimate objects could be so powerful? In "Paperclips", Ms. Greenlee has humorously and quite consciously given us a roadmap to sorting through the habits we all develop when faced with discomfort. Reading it again and again gives the reader a fresh way of envisioning life's way of offering opportunities to grow.

  3. Finally, a most enjoyable and interesting book filled with practical and useful guidance that can be helpful for every age and every level. Each lesson is deeply meaningful, yet stated so simply. A true Gem!!!

  4. I first read "The Lesson of the Chopsticks" and must say that I was not disappointed reading "How to Keep Life's Small Problems from Becoming Big Ones"! Ms.Greenlee's unique view of life's everyday challenges is one we all can identify with on some level.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is in need of a boost to handle procrastination and prioritizing. Ms. Greenlee's uncovers a profound truth using vivid illustrations and metaphors to convey her point and shift us out of our "comfort zone". And, it's a LOT CHEAPER THAN THERAPY!

  5. The idea of the book is good, if you don't take care of the little things when they first appear, they end up snowballing and becoming big things. However, I thought the book would include more to read and digest rather than just drawings of paperclips. OK I get the message now offer some insight on motivation. The message didn't need 109 pages of paperclips to get the message across. One cartoon would have done. It took me all of 5 minutes to "read". Sorry, wanted more for the money.
