  1. When a mouse, Hazel, takes a small woodland Mother's Day gift to her mother, she finds the tree trunk vacant. Mother has gone to visit her mother ... and so and so on ... (Many mouse generations can coexist.) Finally, they all find each other for the celebration. Children learn that every mother has a mother and they all have names. 1 comments about Clifford's Happy Mother's Day (Clifford).
  1. Ever wonder how Clifford came to be Emily Elizabeth's special pet pal? Or what Clifford's mother was like? Well this book will tell you. It explains that Clifford came from an apartment next door to Emily Elizabeth, and it also describes Clifford's first Mother's Day adventure; an episode where he thwarts Emily's plans but everything comes out all right after a little creative thinking.

Four Stars. [B-]. Good Read-aloud. This book tells two separate stories: how Clifford came to be in Emily Elizabeth's family, as well as how Clifford celebrated his first Mother's Day. Artwork is the original by the author, and not like that of the television show.

  1. This is yet another WONDERFUL installment in the HARRY AND EMILY series.

Our 6-year old daughter is an avid and excellent reader. She loves this series.

We have given MOTHER'S DAY MESS (and others in the series) as GIFTS to BOYS AND GIRLS aged 7-8 years and received only positive feedback from the children and their parents.

HIGHLY recommended FUN, funny and age-appropriate reading!

    ENJOY!

  1. My son loves anticipating the words that complete Ms. Ashman's clever rhymes (about mothers) in this lovely book. And as a mother, I appreciate the sentiments in the poem; the verses are meaningful and resonant without being cliched or artificially sweet. The ending is perfect, and gives us a happy, loving moment to share together every time we read this book. Already a favorite in our household, like several other books we treasure by this talented writer.

  2. My daughter is 10 months old and ADORES this book. She picks it up out of a stack of books and says, "Mama! Mama!" perhaps referring to the title. The illustrations have a subtle magic to them, and the words are so sweet and easy to read again and again. What a treasure.

  1. This charmingly simple book spoke volumes to me about the dangers of a disorganized life, and brought to mind several practical applications. If I don't hang up my clothes every night, my bedroom is soon an unworkable mess. If I don't take care of my mail (and other paperwork) diligently and often, it soon becomes overwhelming, and I can't find that piece of paper I really need. If I don't spot-clean the kitchen and baths (almost) every day, things get disgusting quite quickly, and germs can grow. And the list could go on. It's so refreshing to see a simple, highly useful truth presented in such an engaging way, and I look forward to the next "lesson." Way to go, Gina!

  2. Who knew that paying attention to inanimate objects could be so powerful? In "Paperclips", Ms. Greenlee has humorously and quite consciously given us a roadmap to sorting through the habits we all develop when faced with discomfort. Reading it again and again gives the reader a fresh way of envisioning life's way of offering opportunities to grow.

  3. Finally, a most enjoyable and interesting book filled with practical and useful guidance that can be helpful for every age and every level. Each lesson is deeply meaningful, yet stated so simply. A true Gem!!!

  4. I first read "The Lesson of the Chopsticks" and must say that I was not disappointed reading "How to Keep Life's Small Problems from Becoming Big Ones"! Ms.Greenlee's unique view of life's everyday challenges is one we all can identify with on some level.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is in need of a boost to handle procrastination and prioritizing. Ms. Greenlee's uncovers a profound truth using vivid illustrations and metaphors to convey her point and shift us out of our "comfort zone". And, it's a LOT CHEAPER THAN THERAPY!

  5. The idea of the book is good, if you don't take care of the little things when they first appear, they end up snowballing and becoming big things. However, I thought the book would include more to read and digest rather than just drawings of paperclips. OK I get the message now offer some insight on motivation. The message didn't need 109 pages of paperclips to get the message across. One cartoon would have done. It took me all of 5 minutes to "read". Sorry, wanted more for the money.

  1. This is another heart warming story. It shows how much love there is for family and what family will do to do something special for the people they love. The mice were searching for special gifts for Mother Mouse on Mother's day..... and Little Mouse found the most wonderful gift of all!!! I think it's a very sweet book on how much family will do for each other. It tells what the little mice had to do to get their mother their own special present for a special day.

  2. I thought that this story is an excellent story for young children and their mothers to read together. This story about three, cute little mice is precious. They want to find the perfect present for their mother. The Little Mouse is the sweetest character I have read about in a while. They pass some dangerous situations as they search the meadow for the gifts. The surprise at the end of the story will make you so happy, that'll you'd do that for your mother! The story is a very cute story to read, especially around Mother's Day. The illustrations in it are very, very well done and the mice are the cutest mice ever!

  3. Favorite characters: Biggest Little Mouse, Middle Mouse, Little Mouse, and Mother

This book is about three mice who want to each get their mother a gift for Mother's Day. Each mouse wants to get the best gift, but it ends up being the littlest mouse who gets her the most unusual gift of all.
A nice book illustrated with colorful pictures that show these three little mice along their journey for presents. A nice story that shows how to share your love for your mother on Mother's Day.

  4. Though I like the idea of this book, as well as the talent behind the illustrations, after reading this to my children and seeing their anxiety about the huge, menacing black cat that scares the mice, my husband and I have decided not to read this anymore to them. The mouse family is sweet, and the intent of the story is admirable, with the littlest mouse giving his mother a thoughtful gift for Mother's Day. I understand that most plots have some type of conflict that is resolved, but we discovered that the cat in this book was too scary for young children. There is a full-page illustration of this cat's scary face and head which is unnecessary, I believe, to make this story a success. We absolutely love reading stories to our children, and in fact, don't watch T.V. as we want books to be a bigger part of their lives. I understand that some people value exposing their children to scariness in books as a way to explain these things in the safety of their home, but sometimes images can remain in a child's mind for a long time, and if it comes from a contrived situation, such as in a fictional story, the child may find it harder to reconcile within the context of real life. We found that our children had a hard time appreciating the point of the story, because they were too thrown by the big, black cat. These happen to be children who live on a farm and have a pet cat themselves! They've dealt with real-life "scariness" such as the death of animals, nearby sightings of bears, foxes and other wild animals...etc., but all of these fit within the context of their lives. I books, they seem to appreciate images and text that work well together-in this case, the cat is bigger than life.

  5. The story is ok, good even - three little mice wake up early to find their mother presents for Mother's Day. But the real joy of this one is the pictures - very detailed and fun to look at.

  1. Written by Eileen Spinelli and illustrated by Lydia Halverson, I Like Noisy Mom Likes Quiet is a lighthearted picturebook about a racoon mother and son. The mother likes quiet activities, such as drying the cat on the porch, and the son loves nothing more than making lots of noise! But one day the noisy boy does his best to tiptoe and whisper all day long, because he wants nothing more than for his mother to enjoy Mother's Day just as she wants. The playful, humorous and finely detailed color illustrations bring this charming family story to life.

  1. Perfectly framed by Cecilia Concepcion Alvarez's colorful acrylic paintings with an accompanying Spanish translation by Jorge Argueta, Rigoberto Gonzalez's story teaches not only tolerance but also reassures children that a household filled with love is something to cherish.

  2. Antonio has two mother figures which makes it difficult to explain to his classmates. During Mother's Day card making time and after school, when his mom's partner picks him up, Antonio doesn't know how to deal with peer pressure. He is teased often and this confuses him because he loves his moms and his family. This book nicely portrays one boys struggle to fit in without hurting anyone's feelings. The book is written in english and spanish on each page. The love in the story overpowers the basic illustrations. A feel good read.
