1 comments about It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Kwanzaa! (Jats 8x8).
- Kwanzaa books are usually too detailed and authors forget to write some kind of entertaining text to go with their books. This one is light and breezy and young children should like it just fine. It makes Kwanzaa sound fun, not boring. Good Job!

2 comments about Very Special Kwanzaa.
- This book does nothing but steriotype how 2 white boys pick on a black child. As an African American, I am deeply disappointed that the book does nothing to tell the world about the wonderful holiday of Kwanzaa. How is the world to find out anything about our sacred holiday when you have to wade through 100 pages of "All whites are terrible" steriotypes. In summation, this book was poorly written and does nothing to further the black cause.
- My 8 year old daughter and I read this book over the Kwanzaa holiday (2003) and enjoyed it. It has good vocabulary and the story is okay. It portrays a working class African-American family in a very positive way. We were surprised by the other reader's comment because it never occurred to us that the two bully characters were white. One, Gilbert, may be, the other, Marcus, clearly is not. Both characters are featured in the illustrations. Overall, the book is quite multi-cultural. I agree that the reader will not learn a lot about Kwanzaa but it is a pretty good book.

1 comments about Have a Happy....
- This is a good book for Kwanzaa traditions. In the story Chris is un-happy because his birthday is on Christmas Day and he has a little sister that does somrthing! He is upset because if he has a birthday nobody will come because of the holiday observance. He gets a surprise. Also Chris wants to be a paperboy and get a bike, but his family is having finantial problems. He gets plenty of good surprises and heart warming moments with his family. This is an excellant, heart-warming book.

1 comments about Paper Crafts for Kwanzaa (Paper Craft Fun for Holidays) (Paper Craft Fun for Holidays).
- Librarians, teachers and parents will be pleased with this title by California storyteller, puppeteer, papercrafter and Hans Christian Andersen portrayer Randal McGee. As a librarian I was constantly on the lookout for simple, effective and inexpensive crafts for library programs. Randal's book offers just that, along with easy to understand history and facts about the holiday. Instructions are simple and children age 8 and up should have no difficulty making the crafts; younger children may require some assistance with cutting. I would have preferred the patterns to be full sized on individual pages to eliminate the need to enlarge them, but most copiers should be able to handle the job. Bright colors and clean layout add to the book's attractiveness.
