2 comments about A Clay Aiken Christmas.
- This is a wonderful, family-orientated dvd for the beautiful holiday of Christmas. You can get right into the Christmas spirit by putting this in, lighting up your tree and drinking hot cocoa. There is a variety of holiday songs sung by a variety of talented singers. This is not a dvd that will disappoint. It would make a great Christmas gift for anyone - those who are huge fans of the singer Clay Aiken and those who just enjoy Christmas carols.
- I just received my Clay's Christmas Special DVD from Amazon and I couldn't wait to watch it.
The verdict?
The wait was worth it.
I have one complaint about this Christmas special. It is way too short. I would have loved to see more of Clay, Barry, Yolanda Adams, and Clay, Clay, Clay!
And what happened to Megan? I would have loved to watch and hear her sing.
This Christmas special and the way it was done made the show somewhat more real, the behind the scenes, the chatting that took place between the performers, etc, allowed viewers to have a more intimate experience of the show.
As Clay said he wanted us to sit back and enjoy the songs and he will show us how the show is made. This Christmas DVD did exactly that. A not so traditional format of a traditional Christmas show.
I thought that using the choir as part of the audience was a brilliant idea. Seeing the audience standing up to become part of the performance for the last song - WOW and very neat!
Clay looked confident among veteran singers like Barry and Yolanda and he is as always, a natural performer. Barry was right when he said Clay is the real deal!
Get this DVD as Clay invites us to spend a special Christmas with him and his guests!

5 comments about The Little Drummer Boy.
- The collaborative work of Katherine Davis, Henry Onorati and harry Simeone, "The Little Drummer Boy" is delightful retelling of a classic Christmas story and song wonderfully combined with the glowing, full-color illustrations of Ezra Jack Keats and the iconic music and vocals of John Jennings in superbly produced, flawlessly recorded, six-minute DVD format. A very highly recommended addition to family, school, and community library Christmas DVD collections, "The Little Drummer Boy" is also available from Weston Woods in a Paperback/CD format (NPCD124, $18.95) and a Paperback/Cassette format (NPRA124, $14.95).
- When I was a little boy, Christmas time was never complete until I had the opportunity to see "The Little Drummer Boy" on TV. Now that it's out on DVD I don't have to wait to see it on TV. That's right, I still consider it a pinnacle of my Christmas traditions. It's a beautiful, but sad story about a little boy who loses his parents in a house fire deliberately set by some roaving thieves. He, along with his camel and sheep, teams up with a wondering junk dealer and low and behold winds up being at the stable in Bethlehem on the night of The Savior's birth. Since he lost everything he owned in the house fire, he decides as a gift for the new born King he would play his drum. Again, this is a beautiful story that leaves me in tears each time I watch it.
- This is a fairly short Christmas special but it was made in the old days when a half hour on TV contained only four minutes of commercials. The best part about The Little Drummer Boy is its wholesome simplicity. The fact that it is so unabashedly religious is its strongest point in my opinion. Chasing the hate out of your heart and replacing it with love is a valuable lesson for all children, so I agree with another reviewer about its being a timeless family classic. It begins rather slowly but the last five minutes are absolutely outstanding and worth scanning back to watch a second time. The quotations from scripture give it its oomph but this also means that it would never be televised today on any of the big three networks. This might be a good DVD to buy because you probably won't catch it for free.
- The movie is as good as I remember from my childhood but unfortunately the quality of the reproduction is very poor. My mother-in-law happens to have a copy of it on VHS that must have been made before the producers lost the 35mm original, because her VHS reproduction is much clearer than what's on my DVD. It's a real pity the 35mm was lost because it makes a big difference to watch it with the original quality. I imagine if someone redid the story from scratch it would be saccharine and puerile just like all the christmas movies made these days.
Anyway, as far as I can tell from searching for this item on other sites, this DVD is as good a copy as anyone is going to be able to find.
- Probably the only true spiritual Christmas movie. Excellent story line and thought provking meaning of Christmas. Hope that it is some day remastered.

1 comments about True Easter Story, The.
- Whether your a student of middle east history or Bible culture and the teaching of the scriptures this VHS is an excellent purchase. There are two lessons in this tape. The first is a "one on one" session with Ray. His presentation begins in Jerusalem with a very thorough explanation of Jesus' passover celebration with his disciples. Many of the details in the gospels have been so "westernized" that we never grasped the expression of Jesus devotion to His earthly mission and love for each of us. No one will ever experience Easter/passover the same after watching this lesson.
Included with this special edition is the lesson, The Lamb of God, from the 3rd video set of the That The World May Know.

- ....one of tha best Animated, Christmas movie I've ever seen. You will absolutely fall in love with this film...I've seen this movie before while I was shopping at Hollywood Video and decided to get my own copy today...
....anyway...this is an awesome movie...get it...watch it...love it...peace!
- Meh, this movie was kind of stupid. I didn't really care for the characters much either. The yellow singing bird should've been shot down! I hated the songs too. Check out Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer instead! It's always been better! Now to cook this yellow bird! Anyone hungry? MERRY CHRISTMAS YAS FILTHY ANIMAL AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
- After years of silence, Rankin/Bass, the company responsible for such holiday staples as "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer", "Frosty The Snowman", "Year Without A Santa Claus", "Santa Claus Is Comin To Town" and many others, somehow managed to emerge with this terrible clunker. Gone is the Christmas enchantment that overflowed in the specials from their heydey - this depressing 1/2 hour is permeated with scenes from an impovershed ghetto. Instead of cute, charming stop-motion puppet animation, we get very cheap cel animation. I find it hard to believe that the team responsible for all those wonderful holiday classics had very much to do with this one, and I think maybe somehow their name was just tacked on it.

5 comments about Perry Como's Christmas Concert.
- A previous reviewer speaks of the painful experience of seeing all the mistakes and struggles of a truly great performer, well past his prime. As another owner of a copy of this, and a "later generation" fan of Perry Como, let me add my thoughts.
Although it's obvious that at 81, Perry Como would not be performing as in the past, consider the following:
1) He did amazingly well for a man of his age. Who else, at that age in that situation, could have looked and performed so well? It's obvious that, though in his twilight, there was still that glimmer of greatness showing through, even if sporadic, and indicated he was capping off a remarkable career.
2) Perry Como's overall nature and personality helped ease the otherwise embarrasing moments where things didn't work as planned. It was this amiable and casual style that gave him part of his identity as an entertainer, and that seemed to make the concert all the more "him". With some time-adjusted understanding on the part of any who watch the video, it is always a joy to see each year.
3) The audience of over 4,000 had to be one of the most classy and gracious you'll ever see at any concert. I was amazed that, although most of them were "seniors", there were many young adults there (some even younger). Without exception, every shot of the audience displayed nothing other that the utmost love, respect, and admiration for someone they had obviously grown to appreciate immensely. Any miscue in the concert seemed to be graciously overlooked, and any view of the crowd demonstrated people thoroughly enjoying what they came to see.
So, for sure, this has to be viewed with some understanding of who/what/when it was...but will always be a rare treasue in our home's holiday video library.
- I think Mr. Cox had stated, and in a very articulate way, the feelings I had after watching Mr. Como at the age of 81 close out his career in a place where you can sense the reciprocation of Love between Mr. Como and his Audience.
The show was more of a thank you to Mr. C. for all the wonderful moments he had given all of us over the years..They didn't come for any other reason but to be in this man's presence, and his rendition of "And I Love You, So" was worth the price of admission., especially after a humbling statement regarding how age affects a singer's pipes..If you looked away, it was as if he were 40 again.
I was impressed by the whole event..The rapport that Mr. Como had with the wonderful Adele King, who helped Perry through some difficult moments and did so, with a touching and heartfelt admiration that she obviously had for this great man/entertainer..So selflessly, you had to love her, and Perry did, by his own admission.
A Great Night...A Great Entertainer..A Heartfelt thank you..The Singing Barber came through in a BIG WAY, and both he and his fans are the better for it...This video will remain in my collection and will be viewed often.
- I purchased a used copy of this concert to give to my parents for Christmas. I decided to watch it myself (couldn't help it!) before wrapping it up! After viewing it, I am not sure that I want to give it to them. First of all, let me say that I have great respect and admiration for the talent that was Perry Como. However, this concert was extremely painful for me to watch. His singing voice was a whisper - and he frequently forgot lyrics and either hummed a little - or just stopped singing altogether! Embarrassing! I would only recommend buying this tape if you are a die-hard fan.
- Here we have a real collector's item for Perry Como fans... Perry's last Major Live Concert and Television Special.
Perry was 81 (going on 82) years old at the time. The Irish Audience were going wild and were totally crazy about Perry and there wish had finally cam true, they were getting to see their dear old friend - Mr. C, in concert in their own homeland!
The concert begins with Perry singing 'A little bit of Ireland'. Then after footage of Perry getting off the plane, walking through the Streets of Ireland and being above all swamped by camermen, the press and thousands of loving Irish Fans - we are then transported to The Point Theatre, Dublin, Ireland. Perry walks down the middle of the Theatre and the audience go wild in a frenzy of cheers, whistles, kisses, smiles, waves and any ways they could show their appreciation for this very special man who had had a major influence on their lives!
Perry begins on stage by singing 'If I could almost read your mind' - one of his own special material signature tunes, mocking his laid back and casual style - to the audiences delight and affection!
Perry was sounding great and in the concert he sings many evergreens of Christmas Time, which all of the audience have a grand time singing along to!
Perry is certainly in fine voice! Sure, he has a little trouble here and there, a few mis-sung lines, etc, but who cares?! No one in that audience cared - it was a mass love scene between Perry and them! And... Don't forget Perry was 81 at that time - not 18!
The wonderful charm and beautiful vocals were all still very apparent!
At first Perry was feeling a bit disheartened as he didn't feel he was performing to the best of his ability. Perry did have a bit of a cold. After all, that is very easy to happen for a man of his age - especially since he lived in Florida - coming to Ireland in January must have been an extreme differnece in to the Weather he was used to!
For a while, Perry went off stage into his dressing and needed some time to himself. He had a telephone conversation with his wife of 65 years Roselle and she encouraged him to go on and he did. He came back on to sing 'And I love you so' and he sung it beautifully! He then went into a great medley of some of his classic songs: 'Catch a falling star', 'Round and Round', 'Hot Diggity (Dog Ziggity Boom)' and 'Don't let the stars get in your eyes'.
If you notice, just as Perry goes to sing 'And I love you so' there is a split second camera flick and there is Perry wearing different clothes!
Perry was back on stage feeling much better thanks to his own wonderful personality and the strength and encouragement of his wife Roselle! His vocal output for the entire show was remarkably excellent - especially considering his age!
In my own opinion, this concert is a fantastic, wonderful journey with Perry! A definite 'Must' for watching every Christmas - like all of his Christmas Material.
Yes, there are a few ups and downs, but they are all handled in the usual casual relaxed manner that only Mr. C had making this show well worth the money!
I am quite suprised that a couple of reviewers said they found it painful to watch! I have to say, I always have a tear come to my eye every time I watch this concert and many shivers go down my spine. But! I think it is a bit severe to say it's painful to watch!
I think it's sad that these reviewers I now declining to watch their copies of this video again! I find it easier to watch every time. I hope they will change their minds and open their hearts a bit more!
Perry also sings some of his other classics on the show including 'Christ is Born', 'The Wind beneath my Wings', Toyland', 'I wish it could be Christmas Forever' and of course - 'Ave Maria'!
Without a shadow of a doubt, this is a superb Como performance and Perry's output is remarkable for a man of 81. His vocal technique, sense of rhythm and control are atill all very evident within his singing!
Baring in mind that the filming of this concert/special took over 4 hours and where and when it was filmed. This is a marvellous achievement!
This Perry Como Christmas Concert/Special is certainly a show to cherish and well worth the money. It shows that Perry Como had 'still got it' at 81. I think the main thing that let Perry down himself was that he developed a cold shortly before the show. I have a Como performance recorded in 1995 and he stills sounds great then and he was 83! I guess it was just a little unfortunate that Perry was feeling unwell at the time. Nevertheless, his performance was superb!
These days, many singers' voice's are 'on the way out' before they are in! With the erratic lives they live, they rely on singing lessons and digital technology to enhance their voices.
Perry Como was one of a very small handful of singers who sang because they meant it and it all came naturally. A very rare quality!
There will never be another Perry Como.
Whatever your feelings or opinions of this show - This is certainly a superb effort from an 81 year old gentleman!
SUPERB VIEWING AND LISTENING!
Matthew Long
(An enormous Perry Como Fan of a much younger generation!
- I would have just loved being in that audience. I wasn't even aware of the concert until I saw it here on Amazon.
My joy would have been just watching him and listening to him and remembering all of that beautiful music he put out in those long years ago, still fresh in my mind. I still miss his TV shows. I remember him, and the beautiful Fontaine Sisters being on his show very well. And when he would sing a song with them, they would sound like Angels.
I'm sure if I had been in that audience I wouldn't even have heard any missed notes or off-keys. I would just have stood there in awe of such a wonderful person and singer. I can relate to his forgetfulness. It happens to me constantly and I'm only 70. Some days I can't remember my name right away if someone asks me, and forget me remembering my phone number or anything else with numbers in it. And my voice is already aged and mostly a gravelly whisper. So I can't even sing, nor hum, a lullaby to my great grandbabies. The fact that he would even agree to do this concert for his friends in Ireland says something about this wonderful human being.
I have always heard of how he loved and cherished Roselle. And he was lost after she passed away. He was a good man and she was a really fine lady. The devotion was obvious. He often mentioned her name on TV and in interviews. And there was never a breath of scandal surrounding him nor her. They met while teenagers and were married very young and stayed married for 60 some years until she passed away. Now he is singing to her and the other Angels up in Heaven. May Perry and Roselle rest in peace - united again.
I still believe in the adage, if you can't say something nice about someone, then hold your tongue.
I wish I had known him personally.

5 comments about Hiking the Grand Canyon - The Corridor Trails.
- If you get a reservation at Phantom Ranch (call WAY in advance) which is the ranch down at the bottom of the canyon with REAL beds, you do not get a video from the park, at least I did not and I just hiked down and back last Memorial Day. I have seen this video and found it very valuable in planning my first hike in the canyon down the South Kaibab trail and back up the Bright Angel trail which are the main trails from the South Rim and are called the corridor trails. If you are a regular Canyon hiker you are probably already hiking other trails and already know the stuff presented here. If you are first-timer like me, this is good to get.
- I think this is an excellent DVD for a 1st time vistor to the Grand Canyon. The video gives one a great start for the geology of the canyon and breaks down the 3 major trails and their advantages and disadvantages. I can not wait to go visit!!1
- This is an excellent introduction to the trails of the Grand Canyon. Not only do they describe the trails, distances, and difficulty level, but also valuable information on how to hike the trails without hurting yourself. In order to prepare, they provide you with brief guidelines as to your cardio ability, supplies you will need, and what to expect during your hike (including water/rest breaks). They also give some information as to locations for water and lodging. We found this information invaluable in planning our trip!
- A good high-level overview DVD of three main hiking trails (North and South Kaibab and the Bright Angel Trail).
The actual film of some trail sections, along with the topographical and geological graphics, were reasonably well done and helpful.
Since we are doing the hikes in the winter, it would have helped us if there was more detail regarding the likely conditions and equipment required for the snow and ice that we are expecting.
One the other hand, the DVD did give us a sense of what the trails are like, and we will plan for the worst, and hope for the best!
- This review compares this dvd (Corridor Trails) with a recently released Grand Canyon trail guide, which is also carried by Amazon.
I got this dvd (Corridor Trails) a few years ago and found it very helpful as an introduction to the Grand Canyon.
Recently, another dvd guide to GC trails has become available "DVD Hiking Guide - Grand Canyon National Park". I also have this dvd. Here is a quick sum-up of some of the differences:
Trails Covered: This dvd (Corridor trails) covers the 3 corridor trails (Bright Angel, North Kaibab & South Kaibab). "DVD Hiking Guide - Grand Canyon National Park" covers 14 trails (the 3 corridor trails, plus 11 others - one of which is the classic Rim Trail).
"DVD Hiking Guide" is a two disc set totaling 120 minutes (the second DVD is a Grand Canyon nature program with music but without a voiceover); while "Corridor Trails" (this DVD) has one disc and totals 63 minutes.
Video Footage: Both dvds include video footage taken from the trails. The other dvd "DVD Hiking Guide - Grand Canyon" includes more footage of the animal life, streams and plants that can be seen along the trails. It also includes tips on where to see fossils and petroglyphs(which "Corridor trails" doesn't have, and neither does the hiking guide book that I own).
Orientation/Maps: Both "Corridor Trails" and "DVD Hiking Guide - GC" use maps to orient you to the location of the trails..and periodically to your location on the trail. "Corridor Trails" also has a 3D flyover from rim to rim. This is cool, and is not in "DVD Hiking Guide.."
Both dvds are earning 4 & 5 star reviews.

5 comments about The Christmas That Almost Wasn't.
- Pioneer kids tv educator:Paul Tripp makes his leep to
The big screen in this musical Christmas tale that is both heartwarming, funny and pogient. "The Christmast That Almost Wasn't"tells the story of a mean and vindictive miser:"Phinease T.Prune"(played by romantic singing lead:Rosino Brazzi of "South Pacific Movie Fame).Who hates Christmas and Santa so much..that he buys up the entire North Pole..Including Santa's work- shop and home and raises his rent bill so high! That Santa can't pay the rent and he hires a struggleing lawyer:"Sam Whipple"(Paul Tripp)to help him deal with "Mr.Prune". Seeing that "Prune"will not listen to reason and he refuses to disregard the rent bill. "Whipple"gets Santa a job at"Prim's Dept.Store"where he listens to the kids'Christmas wishes ,entertains them and helps to sell "Mr.Prim's"(played by another well known kids tv personality:"Wonderama's","Just For Fun's"and "Let Take A Trip's"Sonny Fox)toys during the holidays. But "Mr.Prune"is not one to be foiled by two good guys. And he conspires with his manservant:"Bascome"to ruin the plans of our heroes. Will he succeed in evicting The Clauses and their workers and ruin Christmas for everyone?! The film has a wonderful story and beautiful songs performed by Mr.Tripp(who also wrote the tunes with Mr.Ray Carter),Mr.Brazzi and the actors playing Santa and Mrs.Claus(Played by Mr.Brazzi's late wife Lida). The sets are dark but charming and the acting is superb. For anyone..who wants a truly charming and tuneful Yultide Fantasy? This is the one film to have.
- As a child, I remember going to the theatre each year at Christmas time and seeing a different holiday movie. I don't know why I remember this movie more than some of the others I've seen. I don't think it is destined for cult status like A Christmas Story, but there's something about the charm of The Christmas That Almost Wasn't. The grinch-ish landlord threatens to foreclose on Santa's workshop and it's the kids to the rescue. It's the age old Gricnh stealing Christmas with a different twist. I only gave it 2 and a half stars, but I would reccomend it for anyone's holiday movie collection.
- The movie is somewhat corny, but when your 11 years old and it comes around every year, you don't care. This movie was an annual tradition as Christmas shows go, like to March of the Wooden Soldiers and Charlie Brown. It mysteriously disappeared in the early to mid '70s. By then I was entering my late teens so I didn't care. But this is one of those TV shows that you need to see to help bring back those childhood images, like watching it in the living room of your parent's old apartment.
PS: does anyone know whatever happened to Paul Tripp?
- With all of the crazy holiday movies out there, with lots of violence and even horror, I have to say this is a very clean all in the family classic. So many people love this film because it brings family together. And what is great about the plot, is that all these years Santa has given to kids, but now the tide has turned and the kids now go out to give back to Santa. Its a hart warming Christmas classic. And the ending is great, the acting is good, and while some may say cheesy, I have to say when your a kid growing up, this is believable and a fun movie. Get this if you want to hold on to a true holiday classic that will always be just that, a "Holiday Classic"The Christmas That Almost Wasn't
- Remembered this movie from when I was a kid and was looking for it a long time and finally found it on amazon! Great Family entertainment!
